(The pouch birds have that grinds up the food it in the throat) if rats are not that hungry, like in summer, rats only eat the "best parts" and leave the rest..
That bend happens even more often with turkeys,(longer neck?) but one notices less because turkeys are less likely to just randomly die as adults.

I recently succeeded in tempting a prolific "RUclips comment section creationist" to leave his comfort zone in order to engage in a written debate over email where he would have to back up his nonsensical claims. He seemed reluctant and took some convincing. I think we all know why.
I am a geneticist and first of all we focussed on the irrefutable genetic evidence for common descent. Throughout the exchange, he clearly didn't grasp the subject matter and could in no way back up his flimsy position, but kept on saying that "we don't come from monkeys". I, however, provided tons of evidence for evolution and supporting references / documents etc.
He gave up saying that he no longer had time for it all and that I was "making stuff up".
In spite of my best efforts, a month later, he is back in the comment sections of another video saying there is "no evidence whatsoever for evolution".

This is way off topic, but this video made me think of it.
I was a devout Mormon convert at the age of 12-13. I took the lessons to heart, and I even destroyed and threw out several dragon figurine knick-knacks because of it. It was painful to do, because I love fantasy stuff like that. For three years, I gave my all into the church.
All of the sudden, in a Sunday school class, the lesson was about the big bang theory and how it was God who caused it. Problem was, it suddenly did not make sense. What did not help was the previous week the lesson was if you are super devout and follow all the church expects of you, you eventually will become a god of your own planet, and this world's God did just that on some other world. It essentially broke my shelf (it's a term Mormon deconverts use). It made me look deeper into the church's own history and what I found make me regret those three years.
I learned the Mormon church is nothing more than a man worshiping cult that is under the guise of worshiping Christ. Seriously, Mormons worship Joseph Smith just as much if not more than Jesus or God, it is disturbing that most Mormons do not even realize they are doing it either as it was taught for them to do it over and over.

When Aron said that scientists like to entertain many competing hypotheses at the same time and progressively knock them down as new information becomes available, I suddenly just realized that the game of "Guess who?" is actually a REALLY good analogy for the Scientific method.
Each character is a hypothesis to explain a particular phenomenon, and every question we ask that gets answered is a test performed or observation made, progressively knocking down the characters/hypotheses that we now know aren't it. We can never get to a point where the universe says "Yes, that's my character and you win," but so long as we stick to the methodology, keep asking questions, and do our honest best to listen to the answers we get, then whatever characters we have left standing are *always* the closest to the truth that we have. When it comes to Crevo, it's safe to say that the character representing "God did it" got knocked down a long time ago, and now we're just trying to figure out whether the character representing evolution has freckles in specific places or not.

    • @Raz.C
      @Raz.C 2 года назад +2

Entertaining a hypothesis is one thing, however, scientists will only ever test a single hypothesis at a time. To do otherwise would be to introduce confounding variables and it's crucially important to eliminate any uncontrolled/ uncontrollable variables when testing a hypothesis.
Nb: When testing a hypothesis, you don't attempt to prove that the hypothesis is correct; to do so would introduce the confounding variable commonly known as confirmation bias. The scientific method requires that you design an experiment that attempts to prove that your hypothesis is incorrect. So 'Yes,' in that regard, it IS a little bit like Guess Who, in that each experimental design that fails to disprove your hypothesis gets knocked down, like another character tile in Guess Who.

    • @PaxofPI
      @PaxofPI 2 года назад

@@Raz.C true, but some times a single experiment or observation can invalidate several hypothesis at the same time.
Take the nature of the univers as an example, it was hypothesised that the univers could be in one of three states. Boiled down to either a steady state, expanding och contracting. Finding the redshifting of the light from remote galaxies showed that those galaxies are moving away from us at an accelarating pace the further away they are. This observation is incompatible with both a steady state univers and a contracting one thus invalidating both of those hypothesies in one go. That is not to say that that in it self proves that the univers will always expand just that is it expanding at this time and that it has been for some time.

Kind of makes you think... about how ignorant a lot of creationists really are.
And how carefully they protect their ignorance from any facts that threaten it.
Also... not to harp on the point...
As you say "the story of Noah" basically says...
"God realized he'd made a big mistake and had to destroy everything and start over..."

Another important failure of The Flood is:
If the flood myth were true, then the flood waters would have covered the highest mountains, ie- the Himalayas. That means that the volume of the earth would have expanded by a radius of about 8Km. If you try to stretch the amount of atmosphere surrounding planet Earth across a sphere 16Km wider than the Earth, it becomes impossible for anyone to survive, even at sea-level. You can do the calculations for this yourself! It's surprisingly easy. The survivable altitude is 0 - 3Km above sea level, for an Earth with a radius of 6371 Km. So if you calculate the volume of a sphere with a radius of 6374 Km, then subtract a sphere with a radius of 6371Km, you have the volume of air on Earth (about a billion cubic meters of air). If you then divide this volume across the NEW volume of a sphere with a radius of 6379 Km, you'll find that any altitude over about 1 meter above sea level doesn't have enough air to keep a human alive, let alone a boat full of animals AND people!!
All the 'passengers' aboard the ark would have died from altitude sickness, which is just as well, since any survivors of this flood would have died from starvation afterwards, since there would be no plants for them to eat and any animal that they eat would become irreplaceably extinct. So even if they had a magical supply of oxygen aboard this ark, when they finally disembarked, the herbivores would all die of starvation within weeks and the carnivores would follow them within a matter of months. And then the only remaining being would be an incompetent God looking at a planet devoid of ALL plant and animal life, saying "OOOPS!!!!"

I mean, it's pretty easy: do no actual scientific research or study, sit back, let actual scientists do the footwork, then cherry pick their work to decide what supports your own stupid beliefs while dismissing everything else that doesn't by misrepresenting it in the most egregious and dishonest ways. So much easier than doing any actual work!
Once again, great take down of this vacuous tripe. Can't say I'll miss John and Jane, though, these two are so utterly cringe worthy.

And like all cryptids, his influence is often used as an explanation for every mundane thing when in reality evidence of god is about as real as someone claiming to have psychic powers.
And the depiction of god and his behaviour varies wildly in America, a country that god supposedly loves the most. He’s either the god who makes shitty football teams win, the god of venture capitalism, the god of snake handling and screaming at the ceiling, the god who puts up magical anti hurricane barriers which ultimately fail when hurricanes hit, the god who gives con men magical powers and proclaim to regrow limbs, a god of accosting marginalized groups and breaking laws. Every time I look into the ludicrous Noachian Flood fable I find something else stupid about it...
Just the movement of this absurd volume of water (which was magicked up from nowhere & promptly vanished) would generate a tremendous amount of *Heat,* which gets even worse when you add the 40 days of rain - each drop of water transferring even more *Heat* as it impacts the rocky ground, or falls into the fantastic new sea of boiling water, poached sea life & plant detritus.
Don't forget the surf & turf platter (of several hundred animal species local to the levant region of the middle-east), cooked up on a floating chunk of charred, splintered, wooden debris, which - _conveniently_ - had run aground on the side of a mountain, far above the surface of the rapidly evaporating waters.
Unfortunately, this mountain - being an ancient _volcano_ - has reawakened (due to all the increased environmental heat & pressure from the tremendous weight of water) with the typical rivers of lava & pyroclastic flow making the area quite inimical to life.)

Thank you. People like me working at a school need science to support education. Sadly, science seems marginalized in recent years. What's weird is the word 'evolutionist' has become a word.

Being this video they wanted to use the Dodo bird, of which Aron covered and explained very well.. it reminded me of a discussion I had not long ago with a creationist who was trying his damnedest to refute evolution. I used the Hawaiian Goose as an example of evolution of a modern bird...that is verging on near extinction because of how it evolved and humans being the tools that they can be.
The Hawaiian Goose was a earlier variety of a Canadian Goose. At some point they were taken off course by some means and ended up on the Hawaiian Islands. Once there in such a tropical paradise..they had no reason to leave or migrate.. Literally, everything they needed was right there ..great weather, food, and protection. There was no real natural predators to fear or worry about eating them either.
As time passes these geese became a bit fatter and lazier. They had no reason to fly anymore.. they were not going anywhere.. there was no predators to escape from. So they slowly lost their ability to fly.. because these muscles and structure of the ability to do so we're not being used..those areas atrophied..and being useless..the bird adapted and evolved to just have weaker muscles..born that way . Soon the changes were in all of these birds. And their bone structure and density changed with those changes . It was not just adapting..their genetic make up changed as well .
Soon after this and almost at the same time..another change was happening. These geese had an abundance of food on land. And with no natural predators to hunt them they never needed to really go in the water. They were sufficient on land.. a bit clumsy but still didn't need to swim for any reason. And add in the fact their density and weight was increasing..they would sink...not float. So they lost the ability to swim. And with generations upon generations not swimming at all no parents taught them to swim or get into the water.. soon if one was to do such..and the water was deep enough where they were over their heads in trouble and water...they drowned. So they learned to stay out of water .at least anything that was anything more that wading depth at their feet
Thus the Hawaiian Goose evolved..to a mostly flightless and non swimming variety of the Canadian goose family. Then humans came along and saw that these birds were gorgeous and beautiful birds with feathers that were commonly black and gold.. (yes literal gold in color) ... colored and they hunted the birds solely for the feathers. This went on until finally people noticed there was hardly any left and the bird was forbidden to be hunted and was put on a protection list.. but another problem had arose....humans brought predators to these islands and now these predators as well was hunting these geese . Geese who could not fly, can not swim, and we're a bit clumsy on land..and who prior to humans coming around..never had any issues or need to develop or keep any means to escape or avoid being killed and eaten.
This is a great example of a bird in evolution that we have right now to look at

I really hope that more people start realizing that religion is wrong and a scientific mind is such a better way to live. Knowing what we know and striving to figure out the things we don't is so much better than pretending your fairy tale is the correct one.

In general, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. However, in the case of the apparently non-existent, ie god, I’d argue that absence of evidence is evidence of absence.
