I own one for a couple of weeks now, my problem with the water tank is the opposite, its a bit to hard to take off since it's placed against the wall. My main gripe is that the bean grinder has this convenient bean sized hole in the middle for the grinder. And how slippery it is (i bought an anti slip kitchen mat for it). A couple of adjustments would've been nice to have, but I expect that for a future Baristina+ machine. Having a second portafilter also helps with brewing coffee right after each other. I chose the baristina because I didn't want to be locked in the nespresso (coming from the older capsule types). Baristina is cheaper then most full automatic machines, and it seems to be a lot easier to clean and maintain. And pulling the lever is fun. Edit: the double espresso glass you showed does not fit. The sprout will move and yeet your glass through the kitchen.
Ok. Heard the "expresso" 3 time to get it if he really said expresso. Every Italien is crying. 😅 But thanks to the French Glow a lot for the work and showing us the Phillips Baristina. Didn't find a German review.
Technically expresso is an actual term for espresso in French and espresso is a misspelling Americans say. But hey, can’t speak for whether dude is French or not 🤷♀️
one can tell the American reviewer by completely omitting the Baristina’s whole reason d’etre: The fact that it will not produce ANY GARBAGE - but only compostable pads, which can go straight into your flower pot as natural fertilizer - whereas the Nestle product causes huge problems after its use, as it contains both metals and plastics which just hang around in landfills for hundreds of years to come.
Thank you for your thorough and unbiased review. Very nice! I own a Nespresso Vertuo and I would consider changing to Philips Baristina for enviromental reasons, but not at this cost. I would pay max 150 euros for this machine. I think 300 euros is too too much. I am also not very sure about the Baristina mechanism. I feel like it will break down and it will not be able to puss the sieg away in the future.
We know nothing about the coffee beans used. Age, quality, Arabica Robusta ratio, origin, coffee or espresso roasting. The comparison is therefore difficult and does not allow any conclusion.
I am getting mine on Monday. I know that it's not perfect. But getting fresh means and espresso at ALMOST the touch of a button. I will take that over a cap any day. I'd suggest getting a separate grinder to help get a better extraction. But overall. I find this to be a good starting point for most people.
I have problems with the porta filter it dont go's back after grinding send once to philips for repair after month same problem are there more people with this problem or have i a monday morning barista please react
Really like the design of the Baristina, very aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunate that it is so simplistic - I guess that's the point but I would have loved to see more adjustment options for better eXpresso.
The Vertuo Chiaro (pronounced kiaro) capsule used on this video, has a capacity of 12 grams of coffee, which is the exact amount used by the Baristina when using the "boost" button. So basically: for a lungo on the Baristina, or a fake double espresso on the Vertuo, they are using the same amount of coffee. The advantage of the Baristina will likely come in to play if you do a regular espresso while still using the "boost" button which will still grind 12 grams of coffee (or 10 without boost) vs 6-7 grams of a Vertuo capsule. In general, if a good medium to dark roast bean is used, the Baristina should yield a more flavored coffee than the Vertuo. Especially when pulling a single shot. Nespresso Vertuo "double expresso" and the "alto" capsule are gimmick despite being sold at different prices and having different in size, both holds 12 grams of coffee. There is no difference in the amount of coffee inside "alto" and "double", the difference is only in the amount of water the Vertuo machine will run through them.
I renently bought the Baristina and I love it. The plastic is high grade and the reviewer is off base focusing on it. I enjoy the espresso and lungus coffee so much, I binned my Nespresso Pixie.
@@gigi9467 I have a 1000 times in Italy and here. Have you tasted the Baristina espresso. You might be surprised. I clearly said it was short of A true espresso but so close with no fuss!!!
@@rayrayray haha he he!!! I’m not a Philips bot. It falls behind”real” espresso but for me it is close enough that I am satisfied with it considering how easy it is to use. NO fuss or muss!!

OK, I know we prefer him to say ESpresso not EXpresso however ...... Espress in Italian means Express in English and nobody is bothered about him not saying caffè. In summary: He really doesn't need to speak in Italian especially when I have heard Americans pronouncing the French "Croissant" like "Cross-Ant", and using the contradictory expression, "I could care less", when they mean, "I couldn't care less".
No grind size settings is an absolute deal breaker. That´s the most important thing to any successful coffee-brew. Disapointing for me. Thanks for sharing! 👍

As soon as I heard „expresso“ I knew this review would not be coming from a coffee nerd. Which is also fine I guess 🤷🏻♂️

Nice job showing the entire side by side brew between the nespresso lattissima and the baristina. Nespresso does extract so creamy.
Thank you!

I wonder how the Philips goes versus a Melitta Cafeo Solo. I always wonder where to go when my Melitta will eventually bites the dust...
Go for Melitta Solo/Latticia or Jura Ena 4/5
I bought one and came without the instructions. Is it normal or dis I get a used product ?????
Something must be wrong with your water tank or you are not pushing it hard enough to click in place. Mine sits like a house!

How to make americano in philips baristina - is there any separate button for americano?
looks like it would just channel through the center
Great video. This showed up a lot of flaws I would have been disappointed by. I'll keep my Lattego 2200 till they refine it.
Why would you consider buying new machine if yours work fine?
You can push down the water tank, then it clicks in.
