I bought the Baristina about two months ago and I absolutely love it. I tossed out my Nespresso Pixie primarily because I didn’t want to use capsules anymore. I have several local coffee roasters and thus the ability to use really fresh beans which adds to the allure. I have spent more than 3 years in Europe and while the Baristina may not equal an Italian espresso completely, it is very satisfying making delicious coffee, easy to use and clean and very enjoyable overall.
I am still surprised there isn't any review of this machine from any big coffee channel O.o For a long time, there has been only an official presentation video from Philips on RUclips and nothing else. Thanks for the review :)
I bought the machine about a month ago. I bought it for 300 euro and I'm happy with it. In my household I'm the only one who drinks coffee, and I don't have the room for an automated coffee machine. Before I used a Nespresso Vertuo machine, did broke down after a few months. After that I switched back to my perculator. I like the machine It's a cup machine experience without buying the expensive cups/waste. The coffee is fine, I drink mostly lungo's and I probably don't have a high standard for my coffee (yet 😅)
Hi, Thanks a lot for your message ! Maybe not yet, but be careful, it comes fast 😅😅 I agree, it's much better than a Vertuo and takes about the same space.
I also upgraded from a Nespresso machine, I only drink cappuccinos at home. And I have to say its a great upgrade from Nespresso capsules. No more capsules garbage, and the coffee tastes so much better. I am curious to see how the machine will hold up over the next few months.
Your detailed technical review of the machine was incredibly persuasive. Thank you for the effort and expertise you put into analyzing its key features; it made my decision so much easier.
Impressive review! My Mom buys 4 shots of Starbucks espresso every day then adds it into a cup of cold milk she brings from home to create a latte. Because she spends so much at Starbucks ($100/mo) I would like to buy her an espresso machine that does all the work for her and gives her a way to replicate the strength of 4 Starbucks shots for her 20oz cup, but I also don’t want to spend $500+ when I give it to her as a Christmas present. Do you think this machine is good enough or does another idea come to mind for you? Merci!
Salut! Thanks for your message. It could do the job, 3 shots with the Baristina will be around 30g of coffee. I think Starbuks single might be around 7 grams. So caffeine wise it will be close. A full super auto like the 2300 from Philips or the Start from Delonghi are almost the same price and might offer more option as milk drinks. Your mum might like that ?
I have problems with the porta filter it dont go's back after grinding send once to philips for repair after month same problem are there more people with this problem or have i a monday morning barista please react
How did you improve the quality of the espresso - 1x boost and espresso button for 4 seconds and then a further 1x boost and espresso button for 10 seconds ? How do you stop it at the 4 second mark, do you press a button ? Thanks 🙏
Thanks Alex! I would go without much hesitation with an entry level Delonghi: Start or Evo. If you are in Europe, I'd strongly consider Melitta too. For North America, I'd stick with Delonghi.
Hi, Yes we can tell the difference, the espresso is not amazing, but I'd find it better than Nespresso. Plus it gives you the option to try lots of different coffee.
@@Cafelista_Coffee great summary this sentence imo. I upgraded from Nespresso and agree, the espresso is not amazing, but definitely better than Nespresso, it's solid. And there are so many beans to choose from, maybe the result will vary based on which beans are used.
Thanks a lot for the very useful video, it looks like it's better to wait for the baristina 2.0 with adjustable grinder and more tweaking options. Could you please meanwhile recommend a compact portafiler coffee machine below $300 that makes fair espresso? Cheers!
Thanks a lot. That would require a bit more work but a Dedica or Ecp from Delonghi and a decent grinder will bring much better results. Otherwise a 2300 from Phillips would be a good choice too.
The Caffeo Solo without a doubt. I also have the machine and the espresso is much better, more option, yes a bit more cleaning but I feel it's worth it.
Thank you for this review. I was interested in getting this machine but after watching this review I decided not to get it. I hope they make a second version of this machine where you can adjust the grind because I like the simple operation.
Hi Erik, thanks for your message. It's mentioned in the coffee and quality extraction. 😉 It's quite weak and watery for an espresso, hard to find the right balance. Not necessarily bad, but not a real espresso, neither. I'd say it is good for someone who wants pod like coffee, but better with more freshness and aroma. For espresso drinker, they should look elsewhere.
I prefer lungo's over espresso's. And this machine is a lot cheaper then most full automatics, plus (it claims) easier maintenance. I now have it for 3 weeks, and i like it. Coffee tastes better then nespresso cups, being able to grind myself and put it in the filter is a nice one for the future when I want to experiment before going all out with an fully fledged espresso machine. It's easy, and pressing the portafilter is just way more fun over pressing a button.
Hi Tristan, I prefer the Baristina over Nespresso too. It's true that there is almost zero maintenance but I wonder about the longevity of the machine because we can't access the brew group. We'll see in the next few months.
What if (once you have more time) you grind the coffee with, say, a hand grinder and put this in the machine? Will you then come close to more expensive machines?
Thanks for the honest review. At $400 USD, this is simply not worth it. For a little more, you can get a 2000 or 3000 series espresso machine with a lot more features and flexibility. Or for less than $300, you can get a well-made Breville knock-off (with grinder).
@@ashutoshpriyadarshy If the machine is fully automated, the espresso won't be like a real espresso. But not necessarily bad Super automatics will make a slightly better coffee. A question not related to the machine 😊
Where did you got the stylish espresso cups from? I really like the design ( 4:38 )
Hey,
