What’s the best bean and settings to replicate a Starbucks caramel macchiato? I’ve just got this machine and the taste isn’t great and milk isn’t very silky outside the small froth on top. Any help would be great.
Hey, For the bean it's hard because it really depends on what you like. What's the one you'R using now ? I'd always recommend a good espresso blend for a speciality roaster. For the settings, follow the guide to adjust the espresso, the rest should follow.
What size of Cafiza tablets do you use in your Touch Impress ? E31 or E16 ?
Hi, I think it's the E31, i'll check to be sure.
Nicely done! Would have been perfect if you had included the dumping of the coffee puck into a bin, washing the portafilter in the sink, drying it with a towel and then putting it back into the machine.
Thanks for the feedback !
Thank you for your thorough review of the Magnifica Evo. I did notice than on a few occasions you mentioned it was good for its price rangebut not to expect strong cofee. Can anuthing be done to improvce the quality of the EVO? Thanks again I just discovered you and am now a happy suscriber. Bernard
Hi, It is a remark I can make for all bean to cup machine. It could be good, but not as strong as a double espresso made with a traditional machine.
Nice video, in the grinder will the lower grinder number make stronger coffee? Thank you
Hi, Thanks for the comment, yes that is the idea ;)
Whats the maximum size latte in ML this can make?
My coffee is also too bitter. Any suggestions?
What coffee are you using ?
How can I adjust the pressure of coffee with the magnifica start machine?
You can't directly adjust the pressure.
Great review! I ordered one of these and I’m waiting for it to be delivered this week. I’ve watched many reviews and really appreciate the detailed look in yours including the measurements and showing how to open it for cleaning.
Thanks a lot for your comment and your feedback!
Do you use the coffee ground bypass ? How do you like your coffee ?
I accidentally messed with the grinding settings and I didn’t realize the machine had to be actively grinding. What should I do? What is the factory setting for the dial? Does it turn itself back when you reset it
Hi, The reset is for the settings. For the grind size, it's not a problem. If your coffee is good like that, no need to change it.
Hi, thanks for the review! Best explanation of the Baristina so far. If you want to improve the sound of your tutorials... get a better microphone ;-)
Hi, Thanks for the feedback! Totally agreed, the mic was change right after that video ;)
Sometimes when I use the Steam wand to froth milk, and make coffee afterwards, the puck just "expolodes" when I take the Portafilter off after making coffee. The steam and some water also continues going out of the grouphead for minutees after, as if some valve inside doesn't close or seal properly, or the pressure in the boiler is too high. Do you have any idea why this happens and how to fix it?
Same happens to mine. I was wondering the same and hoping this would help.
I have problems with the porta filter it dont go's back after grinding send once to philips for repair after month same problem are there more people with this problem or have i a monday morning barista please react
Sorry to hear that. I was going to advise to send it back for repair if still under guarantee.
Thank you for the information! Why is the espresso: water volume ratio different with superautomatic compared to manual espresso machine? I have switched from manual to superautomatic, i like my coffee ratio 1:2 to 1:2.5 using manual machine
Hi, We don't have the same control on the grind size, temp, extraction time. Usually a 1:2 ratio will be a bit too short to extract the coffee properly. That is also what I use with my espresso machine. With super auto, I'd go usually for a 1:3.
This was really helpful! I never thought about basing grind settings on how fast the water flowed. I’m going to have to play around some more now… lol
Thanks a lot. Hope it helped ;)
Great video! I was wondering when someone would issue the lack of adjustability of the machine's grindsize, making the type of beans you use for it a essential part of the brewing. Do be honest, I would never recommend this machine to someone because it is sold as a simple to use machine but because of the lack of adjustability can cause a lifetime of bad tasting coffee. (If you don't know much about different sorts of beans) I think this video will help a lot of users getting more out of their Baristina. ☕👍🏽
Thanks a lot. That was the video of the video ;)
Noticing the Delognhi Machines nozzle tubes for coffee, steam and milk froth are made of plastic. And they will say it's a food grade plastic of course BUT the concern of plastic in contact with super hot beverage is real! So the questions is are there any studies proving no chemical are leaking in the beverages ???
Great point! I have no knowledge of a study around that subject.
I worked at delonghi and that definitely isn’t a concern!
All you have to do is unplug the machine, and it will reset. Every time my electricity goes out it factory resets.
Здравствуйте. Как перепрошить DeLonghi Magnifica S ECAM 22.112.B
Hello Colin! I have been using the same machine for 10 months with pleasure. All of a sudden my coffee started to taste very bitter. I have not changed anything (temperature, grind setting, bean setting, water level) in this period. Also I use mostly the same beans. I started to taste the bitter coffee when using different brand beans (lavazza). I immediately stopped using these beans and switched back to my old beans again. Still the coffee tastes bitter. I clean the machine, diffuser etc regularly. What can be the problem? I look forward hearing from you!
Hey! Does the coffee puck look the same ? Is it more watery ?
@ thanks for your reaction and also thank you for putting your time and effort for an amazing video!! The pucks are nice and solid. When the puck bin is empty; the first one or two pucks break which is obvious I guess because of the fall down haha. The rest of the pucks are nice and thick, not watery powdered or dry
@ i've set back the grinder gradually to 4,5 and after 10-15 cups the coffee with the old beans start to taste almost normal, but still bittery. I have taken apart the diffuser as well and cleaned it thoroughly. It was already clean tho and the machine is not that old. Can it be that the lavazza bad tasting beans remains are still in the grinder somewhat? Note: I mostly drink lungo coffee's
I've had my eco magnifico for a week and I absolutely love it. It makes a beautiful coffee every time
Yes it does!
I've been experimenting with this machine for a while and am pleasantly surprised by the flavor of espresso it produces for such a novice friendly piece of equipment. Am i utilizing it in the best way possible by putting in whole beans, and producing shots repeatedly or is there an easier way of getting a larger and robust cup of coffee?
You are using it the best way possible!
Thanks for the tips! I use Lavazza Mountain so the temperature will be at default 1 and the coffee strength will stay the same. The espresso is strong! I can really feel the differences between these coffee types. Plus, there are lots of possibilities for cappuccinos, macchiatos etc. I think it’s a strong machine for the price. Another option was the DeLonghi Magnifica S Smart, but I decided to go with Start. Simple, stupid and a little newer if I’m not mistaken
Great tip!
60 - 70°C is a good serving temperature. Both models are easy to use, one just includes the milk jug, but it requires more cleaning. It all depends on the kind of flexibility you want. I see that for the EVO there are two variations, with and without the jug. Seems like the same goes for Start
Helped me and my husband a lot in configuring our machine. Thanks for this video!
Glad I could help! Thanks Marie !
Good tips thanks
Happy to help!
What grind setting would usually be the best setting for medium roast espresso beans? I am on the fourth dot. I am also javing a hard time matching to say starbucks. Their double shot for small and medium or how do i get the three shots for a large like some coffee companies do without ending up with to much liquid.
Hi, With Philips, I usually start at 3. Not always easy to have fine enough grind with those models.
What grind setting should I start the first extraction at?
Hi, I usually start at 4 or4.5 on DeLonghi. Then try a few espressos and adjust accordingly.
Neat concept, but as everyone else watching this videos knows... it doesn't seem to work very well.
That is what I'm explaining in others videos ;)
@@Cafelista_Coffee No doubt, yeah, it's a very helpful video too. Its certainly priced right, but as you help others see, it's ultimately not going to be worth it.
Please just a question. How to make a lungo espresso with Delonghi Magnifica Evo?
Excellent review. How do you think the milk & espresso quality compares to other super autos youve tested? Which superauto would you recommend overall?
Thanks for supporting us and subscribing 🙏! Any tips to improve the coffee on the Philips ?
throw it in the bin and buy a better one
@technov1king if it's what people have, before changing theirs, they can at least try to get the most of it.
I LOVE mine!! Drinking way too much espresso though haha
I have the same issue 😃 I guess it's not so bad !
I just got this and struggling with the coffee settings. American bad 2.8oz coffee and 8oz of water… how can I figure out what the amounts should be?
Hi, For the coffee you can stop the cycle, get the puck in the puck container, and let it dry to have a better idea of the espresso dose.
I do winter backpacking/camping and just picked the picopresso up to take along. Any tips or recommendations on gear that I need to make the experience easier or better?
Hey, It's a great little machine. The main issue I found is temperature. In winter it's even harder to get something hot enough. So preheat your cup and run a empty cycle with the Picopresso with boiling water :)
@ is that to get better shot quality or just to get a shot that is hot?
@@3levatephotography The shot quality could be really good with it, it's mostly the temperature that's more difficult to manage.
Great video. 2 questions if I may. When removing the frother from the unit do you need to press the button on the side of the frother I assume no and it’s just a pull out as with the hot water attachment. There is nothing on the manual about this. But in one of their official RUclips videos the guy presses the button to release it from the machine. When inserting the connecter back into the frother unit after cleaning do you need to press the button on the frother as you do when removing the connecter from the frother. On their website they have two manuals one says to push the button when inserting back and the other manual says to press the button then push the connector back in. Thanks!
Thanks a lot ! I feel it's better to push the button, it releases easier :)
@ thanks will advise my parents to press at all times except when inserting into unit. I bought 2 additional frothers for back up lol
@Cafelista_Coffee Hi, first thanks for the review. One question, i'm usually drinking Nespresso Kazaar. Will this machine be a decent replacement or is the coffee that comes out to light in comparison?
Hey, Not sure about that type of Nespresso. Haven't drank Nespresso for a while ;)
thanks a lot
Happy to help!
excellent video, i did the reset on my coffee Maginifica Start but the quantity being dispensed seems to be far low than what it use to do. I have done the reset and also did the descale. Please advice ?
Thanks, Did you try to set a new volume to see if the machine delivers always the same amount ?
Is there option to make the espresso deliver before the froth? Thanks
Hey, Not on those unfortunately ;)
A big lie. They only accept small coffee beans. Impossible to find in supermarkets. I find this type of coffee in niche stores. At huge prices. A scam.
It accepts coffee beans. You can that everywhere 😉
Great video. Vety informative. I also enjoyed hearing your French accent. Merci
Merci Anthony 😉
Hello, thank you for the helpful information! I just got the magnifica plus as a gift. I’m a newbie to espresso making and the dark roast Sumatra beans I was using in my grind and brew drip coffee maker is much too bitter for this machine. I tried to decrease the intensity but it just isn’t worth the time, so I’m exploring other beans. I went to a local coffee roaster and bought a medium roast flavored bean and a medium roast Sumatra and Nicaragua blend (they recommended). I do not like an intense espresso…but I do like the taste of bold coffee in my milk based drink, like cappuccino. I may like the flavored bean as an espresso but it wasn’t strong enough taste for me in a cappuccino today, even with highest intensity and extra shots. I adjusted the grind from 5 to 3 and it stopped flowing, so that had to go back up. I guess I’ll have to try the other bean to see if it’s any better. The beans were not cheap so experimenting can be quite expensive. I was wondering if you could recommend a nice bean that’s not too light and not too strong tasting that could be used both as an espresso (maybe lighter intensity) and a milk based drink at a higher intensity that I can buy at the market or online. An 8 ounce bag of coffee at the roaster cost me $12 USD plus tax whereas Lavazza is so much more reasonable. Is that a good bean and what would you recommend? Please and thank you.
Hi, It could be a bit of a pain at the beginning, and frustrating to waste coffee.. I experimented a bit with Lavazza myself, I found it usually a bit too dark and burnt for my taste.
I love the jump cut at the end of the pulled shot where they go from something that looks like it had milk in it to a more traditional color of coffee with some crème ontop you ain’t fooling no one
What ? It's edited but you see what the machine makes ( which is nothing crazy)
what about espresso macchiato?
You can do a version of it using the option Mylatte and adding only the minimum amount of milk.
this machine make coffee like professional ,maybe is it approximate?
Hi, What is approximate ?
How did you improve the quality of the espresso - 1x boost and espresso button for 4 seconds and then a further 1x boost and espresso button for 10 seconds ? How do you stop it at the 4 second mark, do you press a button ? Thanks 🙏
Hi, You simply press the coffee button and it will stop the grinding and the portafilter will come back. Then do it again with a full dose.
I am really pleased with my oracle jet, I single dose 20g decaf on the jet and use a separate grinder for non decaf. The group heats quickly and now has a stainless steel heated head with water flow through side holes on the hollow central screw giving a much more even flow compared to previous machines. Lots of small improvements have improved extraction and I get consistent output with little effort.
Hey, Thanks for your comment. I agree, I also get consistent result, and having that kind of espresso in a few minutes in the morning is quite amazing ;)
Good Job. My Evo has a separate descale button. Yet, your video gave me enough insight to get the job done. Thank you.
You're welcome! Glad it was useful, even if the button is in a different place.
