It is a solid (ish) puck! The first few brews, it did output a soppy mess of water and grounds. (Likely just the machine working itself in), but as we brewed more, they became more and more solid. I did find that while a solid puck came out, there was a bit of coffee ground residue left in the porta-brew. More than would usually be present in a manual machine, but nothing a quick wipe from a paper towel wouldn't get rid of. I'm also confident that this would become better over time! The coffees we made in this video were actually only the machine's 3rd and 4th brews. So that's why it might've looked less solid, as it was still brand new.
I love mine :) absolutely the best when you want to avoid capsels but same comfort as a Nespresso machine:) I was searching so long for something like this:)
@@robholman1621I have mine since summer this year and yes still works perfectly without any issues. I use it every day. During your first uses the machine crumbles some coffee when grinding, but Philips told me this is normal at the beginning and now it's all fine. It stops after a few uses.
I know they are two completely different types of machine, but I am torn between this one and the Kitchenaid semi auto with the grinder...I saw your review for that one as well. Which one would you recommend in terms of overall quality of the espresso and milk froth. Thank you in advance!
I had the chance to try this machine the week it came out, and I was curious about it. The machine looks good-it's mostly plastic and not very heavy. The espresso tastes great; however, the machine is very messy. It leaves residue everywhere. For me, it was a clear no.
It's super light and plastic, at a first glance, I had figured Philips had made a super cheap semi-auto machine since it was so light. But it packs a lot of punch and is a super respectable lil unit. I found that the messy-ness went away after the first few uses. But every machine is a little different :)
@@ecscoffeeincwhy is every machine different? Isn’t it made in Factory? This isn’t a professional response. Ask any engineer in Philips and he will laugh at your statement. Moreover „messy ness goes after few uses“ means you accept the messy ness. Customers got the message with this response itself: don’t buy if you don’t want a messy machine.
How is it messy? Where? Mine brews a fine cup of coffee without spilling anything and when I take out the filter to discard the residue it also doesn't leave a trace. So I really wonder what mess yours makes.
Tried it and was pleased with the design and simplicity. Really enjoyed the espresso but it was extremely messy and the the digital buttons stopped working unless the unit was turned on and back on again. Returned it within 3 weeks…miss the coffee, sorry it was not a sturdier build and less sloppy.
@@ecscoffeeincThks for that - are u going to get the Meraki Expresso Machine to review? It’s a Kickstarter project that’s completely sold out - it looks really good - due for delivery to backers in Nov - unfortunately I missed out on the early bird specials
I saw this machine in the store the other day. It was very plastic fantastic in mine opinion. Not a premium feel They really should have used some better materials at the crusial points
Agree but it's a great machine if you want the same comfort like Nespresso but don't like the capsule trash :) love mine for this reason and it looks good in my kitchen :)
Can confirm, she just made a weird face. haha! I cut out a lot of footage after we cut where Rebecca was raving about how unexpectedly good it actually was. - The Editor
Right after she said it was "too hot", i realized this machine is those "design only", devices. You are paying for a nice design and that's all. All plasticky? lol. I supposed there is market for anything and everything :).
You guys need to do better with your titles. How could this be a Nespresso killer? If you can’t change coffees instantly such as decaf. This is nothing like a pod machine, not even in the same ballpark. Apples to oranges.
There is a natural evolution of customers from Nespresso to a bean to cup. Given the simplicity of this, the frother being basically the same and the price point being closer this is being marketed to those that want simple, fresh coffee without the price of capsules.
Plastic fantastic, philps can't even make coffee machines. Our is now going back for the 3rd time. The piston keeps stuck, our machine is from June 2024 so hold on tight
Love the way you express yourself. Fun and informative. 👍😊
Great review. Smells like coffee and it's hot. I'll run right out and buy one.
Thank you for this great review! I was just curious, Is it a solid puck that comes out of the porta-brew, or is loose grounds?

WOW!!! This machine is amazing. Just wow
We agree!

This looks perfect to transition from a pod machine. How long have you had yours and is it holding up well?

Fun video, informative and nicely done, that espresso machine is a cute little rascal. ☕️😊

Go with the Kitchen Aid. While the Philips Baristina is a solid entry level machine you will get more microfoam and control with the Kitchen aid.
@@ecscoffeeinc thank you!

That's a bummer to hear. Maybe you got a faulty one!
Do u have to pay extra for the milk frother and if so how much
We sell the models with the milk fr0ther included, but from other retailers it looks like the milk frother costs approximately $120

Can you make an americano without a separate kettle? In other words, can it dispense hot water?
@@davea1479 no, you will need to boil water separately!
@@ecscoffeeinc Okay, too bad. I thought maybe if I chose the add your own ground coffee option and left the pod empty that might work.
You can. You just have to long press(5 secs) the middle button and it will start pouring hot water, press it again to stop
The question is not if the machine can make an americano the question should be if YOU should make one
@@favs6622 Thank you
I just returned mine. The coffee temperature is not hot enough.
Good feedback to know. We will pass onto our customers
Great presenter 😊
This is not a lungo, this is a double lungo.
The machine has an automatic "tamper", it is just hidden.
Yes it acts like a brew unit :)
I had it. Great idea of a machine. However I returned it promptly to Best Buy. Terrible espresso.
