One of my favorite things in PMW2 is the Grand Score, which shows the sum of your high scores across all levels in the game on the map screen. I used to think about which levels I could improve my score in the most to drive that number up. I would collect everything, I would try to get as many ghosts as possible with a single Power Pellet, I would kill every enemy, and I would even backtrack after dying at a checkpoint to kill the same enemies again for more points, and I would try to maximize my Galaxian score by grabbing the fruits and eating as many ghosts as possible. Finding ways to break point thresholds I had made for myself was so much fun.
I remember my first ever introducton to Pac Man World 2 was via the demo showcase in one of the many Namco Transmission demo discs for the ps2. Ever since i laid eyes on it, I knew it was a platformer I wanted. I was around 11 and let me tell you, its a good game. Even pretty challenging by the halfway point (a little too challenging at points). It solidified me as 3d Pac Man fan and made me believe that with the right assets, he could rival Mario & Sonic GETTING 100% THO?! You only do it if you hate yourself. Didn't think I'd find you here, but yeah, you should give the game another shot. Although I won't blame you if you can't beat the 4th boss or try to 100% it.
The normal platforming stages are fine but anytime this game makes you constantly move forward without any chance to go back it is a fuckin nightmare. If they make another Pac-Man platformer I think they should take notes from Rayman Origins/Legends and make it so that you're rewarded for reaching certain scores in each level instead of making you have to collect every single thing for it to be worth a damn
Ah yes. PACMAN World 2. I used to play this game when I was little. It was quite fun, and I tried to explore the entirety of the intro level on my first play through, exploration was one of my favorite things to do in games, and still is. I wonder why I never finished the game, much like with my other GameCube games besides Luigi’s Mansion.
It is a pretty common joke to replace "seppuku" with "sudoku" because they're both Japanese words that start with "s" and could be considered similar in sound. There's a lot of "ironic memes" that say something to the effect of "I am going to commit sudoku". Everybody knows that isn't the correct word, but it is the same as saying "I am going to commit die" instead of "suicide". TL;DR: Internet humor commonly manifests in the conscious, intentional mangling of words.
I am so glad someone talked about the music, it's such a good soundtrack. You even talked about the main motif showing up throughout the game, and each area's theme being developed and rearranged as you progress! RUclipsrs don't always get into the music of a game in any detail, so this is much appreciated! I always enjoyed how almost every track ends with just percussion or a very short restatement of the area's theme.
For sure! I had to revisit this game as an adult to realize how groovy and diverse the soundtrack is. As a visual novel composer myself, short staccato motifs or percussion intros and outros are wonderful for making tracks loop seamlessly! This OST is lovely and I love seeing appreciation for solid themes and motifs across all soundtracks. Happy listening!
This is one of those classics I missed out on, mostly because I had Pac-Man 2 for the SNES and that soured me on anything Pac-Man related for a very long time (with the exception of Ms. Pac-Man, which was incredible). A lot of my thoughts toward this game were "it seems fine" and "nostalgia seems strong with this one, with a very good soundtrack to accentuate those feelings". But seeing it illustrated as something of a mix between the first Banjo and the first Crash Bandicoot was not something I expected, and that's really something fascinating. I specify those two due to Crash starting you with all of the movement options you'll get at the start and expecting you to master them along with perfecting levels, and Banjo for both tone and how guiding the player through collectibles seems to be handled, along with improved expansion on movement tech. Your explanation of Pac Village, especially, was totally spot-on - I love tutorials that allow a player to learn more through experimentation, and the arcade being the impetus to keep experimenting is such a smart and logical decision. Like MAN that's such smart content. Of all the retrospectives and analyses and speedruns of this game I've seen, this is the one that's made me most want to give it a shot. Excellent work!

As a Pac-Man game I think that this game is better than the ghostly adventures however the ghostly adventures is still really good game it does not feel like Pac-Man if you were playing as a chameleon that game would make more sense
i loved this game as a kid (as im sure 99% of the comments you'll get on this video will say) but every time i went back to it i actually found myself enjoying it less and less. it has amazing physics and controls and some pretty fun levels, but theres really not a whole lot of challenge like in Crash. there also arent really any puzzles to keep it engaging like in the first game, so it really banks on the collectathon aspect holding it up but in my eyes it really fails at it. while i do agree that the way it separates levels into small chunks, the mechanics and system for collecting things and getting 100% just makes it a tedious chore. it doesn't help that every level is completely fucking PACKED with collectibles and there are plenty of instances of terrible placements for them. the slide section in magma opus, the pac-dot arcs in haunted boardwalk (especially towards the end), that one apple in avalanche alley thats off screen that i ALWAYS miss, the one melon you mentioned in the video, and the entirety of yellow pac-marine are all extremely annoying. the water levels in general are just awful, ESPECIALLY yellow pac-marine. who the fuck thought an 8 MINUTE AUTOSCROLLER with the most dull visuals and repetitive enemies/hazards was a good idea? but i've ranted about that enough times before so i'll stop myself here. on a related note, you mentioned in your video about the Megawhale boss seemingly randomly running away during the fight, but thats because youre misunderstanding how the boss works. you're actually supposed to shoot all four of the propellers off, and after each one is destroyed the boss will run off for a little bit before coming back to attack you again. the boss still isnt all that great even with that knowledge in mind because you still end up having to wait around for a long time, but i figured i'd point that out. i also think its pretty funny that we both made videos on pac-man world 2 before making one on pac-man world 1 lol, great video as always. while i may not be quite as fond of it as you or even as i was when i was younger, it still does have a lot of charm and is pretty fun to play on a base level. do you plan on doing any more pac-man related videos in the future?
Not sure right now. Not too interested in making a video on the original, and there is no third game. They never made one. Never. Thanks for the comment btw, was a good read! I do wish World 2 tweaked its formula a bit because I love the levels in this game enough to keep coming back.
I haven't played many 3D platformers so this was quite informative for me. Great comparison between the two games as well. If only a third installment would release, since it looks like even the 2nd installment was a crazy jump.
It was a boring beat-em up with simple platforming and a dark out-of-place story made by a shovelware english developer that also made the notorious Sneak King.
Despite PMW: 2's very simple plot, I feel the Ghost Island stages only exist just to pad out playtime. Even from a story perspective it makes no sense to visit them because for one thing, it's established that Blinky, Pinky, Inky & Clyde steal 5 Golden Fruit (not 6, but we'll get to that shortly) from Pac Village's tree and your goal is to retrieve them all from each themed area. Then literally after beating the Megawhale boss fight and collecting the 5th & last Golden Fruit, you then transition to the Ghost Island stages by force. It's especially frustrating because there's no major reward after treading the haunted boardwalks or going through the trauma of Wormwood's maze in Ghost Bayou and it gets you thinking "What was the point of going through the Ghost Island stages if there's not another Golden Fruit to collect?". More importantly. After the Megawhale boss fight, there was nothing preventing Pac-man taking a detour back to Pac Village from the underwater stages in his submarine (btw, Pac Village is literally located next to the coast on the overworld map) and restoring the village tree to its original state without ever visiting Ghost Island. It's a huge plothole and I'm surprised the people who love this game haven't called attention to that. So yeah, that's my major issue with the story of PMW: 2.
Actually I’ve always noticed that because it does make no sense, it’s not like they take all of the fruit either, which would force us to go there and retrieve them from Wormwood, which would’ve justified it, but at the same time, I can forgive it because I love Ghost Island, specifically Haunted Boardwalk, and it’s a simple fix honestly, have the gang show up in a tiny getaway submarine, take the fruit from Pac-Man forcing him to retrieve all of them at once!
So, SafeGaming89, because you have problems with the story of PMW2 and would even tell the fans of the game to point out what it did wrong, I take it you’re not a fan of this game itself? Because even the best received games like Super Mario don’t seem to be well-remembered for having stories that would be God of War (2005 & 2018).
@@kieranstark7213 Well if I truly hated this game, I probably wouldn't have replayed it as many times as I have. While story in platformers can be entertaining on its own, at the bare minimum it should contextualize gameplay and service of some kind of goal the player's motivated to accomplish. Tbf, PMW2 does just that for the most part but hits a huge hurdle at the last hub area for reasons I already explained.

i loved this game as a kid (as im sure 99% of the comments you'll get on this video will say) but every time i went back to it i actually found myself enjoying it less and less. it has amazing physics and controls and some pretty fun levels, but theres really not a whole lot of challenge like in Crash. there also arent really any puzzles to keep it engaging like in the first game, so it really banks on the collectathon aspect holding it up but in my eyes it really fails at it. while i do agree that the way it separates levels into small chunks, the mechanics and system for collecting things and getting 100% just makes it a tedious chore. it doesn't help that every level is completely fucking PACKED with collectibles and there are plenty of instances of terrible placements for them. the slide section in magma opus, the pac-dot arcs in haunted boardwalk (especially towards the end), that one apple in avalanche alley thats off screen that i ALWAYS miss, the one melon you mentioned in the video, and the entirety of yellow pac-marine are all extremely annoying. the water levels in general are just awful, ESPECIALLY yellow pac-marine. who the fuck thought an 8 MINUTE AUTOSCROLLER with the most dull visuals and repetitive enemies/hazards was a good idea? but i've ranted about that enough times before so i'll stop myself here. on a related note, you mentioned in your video about the Megawhale boss seemingly randomly running away during the fight, but thats because youre misunderstanding how the boss works. you're actually supposed to shoot all four of the propellers off, and after each one is destroyed the boss will run off for a little bit before coming back to attack you again. the boss still isnt all that great even with that knowledge in mind because you still end up having to wait around for a long time, but i figured i'd point that out. i also think its pretty funny that we both made videos on pac-man world 2 before making one on pac-man world 1 lol, great video as always. while i may not be quite as fond of it as you or even as i was when i was younger, it still does have a lot of charm and is pretty fun to play on a base level. do you plan on doing any more pac-man related videos in the future?
Not sure right now. Not too interested in making a video on the original, and there is no third game. They never made one. Never.
Thanks for the comment btw, was a good read! I do wish World 2 tweaked its formula a bit because I love the levels in this game enough to keep coming back.
ahbeef I thought by the end it got pretty damn challenging.
Liam Triforce There is actually a Pac-Man World 3
nope there is not

Give us a Switch port
Pac-Man world 2 isn’t just the best Pac-Man game, but also the best crash bandicoot game don’t @ me.
Lol
I don’t know what’s better, PMW2 or Crash 3 (Crash of the Titans comes close)
lmao hell no, it sucks
@@kieranstark7213 crash 3 by a far margin
@@toooydoeur didn’t ask
funny thing is, i don't remember pac man telling you how to beat bosses on the ps2 version, is that just a gamecube exclusive?
There was a revision version called 2.0
@@Nic_2751 ohhh, really? interesting :0
I don't know why, but I always read the title not as Pacman World: The Sequel, but as Pacman World Number 2; as in the "2nd world" of a video game
I know I’m SUPER late to this video, but I’ve always adored this game and I’m glad someone shares my feelings on it. Your channel is amazing dude!
God I forgot how good the music is in this game! Also, cool new intro!
I haven't played many 3D platformers so this was quite informative for me. Great comparison between the two games as well. If only a third installment would release, since it looks like even the 2nd installment was a crazy jump.
There was a third game. We just pretend it doesn't exist.
Oh... oh nooooo... whyyyyy...
It was a boring beat-em up with simple platforming and a dark out-of-place story made by a shovelware english developer that also made the notorious Sneak King.
Also, Sneak King and Pac-Man World 3 were directed by the same guy, no joke.
Wow, that's truly incredible. What a waste.
i loved this game as a child
@@MobiusRules1 I never said that you hated (or even disliked) this game, just guessed. Now I’m convinced that you gabe it the credit it needed like any other Namco game besides the Dark Souls franchise, original Pac-Man, Tekken and SoulCalibur (which were great games, but most other games of the mascot franchise aren’t as popular, and that’s a shame).
