What is an AFFORDABLE Pet?

Of course we'll start off with the tropical fish. Have a passion for Oscars,which are beautiful and friendly to the aquarium owner. At one time, I had Oscars, Discus(very expensive and very difficult to raise), a Jack Dempsey, a ghost knife, and silver arrowana, in one aquarium. All got along and the Oscars, were the royalty of the aquarium. Then my ghost knife vanished. The Arrowana, is the prime suspect.
Goldfish are a easy breed of fish for any size aquarium. Just remember, the bigger the tank, the bigger your goldfish will be. Some gravel, a airpump, inexpensive food, and a variety of goldfish species makes for a easy setup and conservative on the wallet.
Ferrets. I love'em. Not too crazy about the typical musk smell nor the daily cleanup, that is necessary. Definitely not for children! You might as well give the kid a crocodile or funnel-web spider.

Many are getting rid of their pets as they were purchased during the 2020 Lockdown. Stimulus & unemployment money vanishes. Jobs disappear. Inflation skyrockets, and many can't afford their pets(Florida Everglades, can attest to that). So try adoption or just scanning the internet for pets in your area.
To me. The best, easiest, friendliest, fun, and cost effective pet for any age, has got to be the Gerbil. Get two of the same sex, as they are happy in pairs. Was gonna say Guinea Pigs, but Guinea Pigs can be quite a chore to maintain. Nope. Gerbils. Better than hamsters. Very quiet. And they will chew anything to pulp, that is not made out of ceramic or metal. Don't purchase anything made of plastic, for gerbils. Waste of money. Just make your own little housing for them using cardboard. And they love chewing toilet paper rolls and using toilet paper for making a nest.
Just glad I don't own a dog or cat. Check-out the price of their food brands. Wow! Brands must notice the market for expensive foods. Next time I'll bring some silverware, and give the stuff a try.
Oh. One more thing: Turtles make great inexpensive pets, as well. So do frogs and Tarantulas. You can also make a terrarium, and keep Hermit Crabs. Hey! Who doesn't like Hermit Crabs?
