    Your barn must be very hot during summer time since the hot air from condenser is placed inside your barn.

  • @koreymayo8884
    @koreymayo8884 Год назад

    Putting your outdoor condenser in an enclosed space will actually make it colder and less efficient because it will be cooling that whole space, but since it isn't insulated it probably won't get much colder than outside.

    Hey David,
    Really appreciate your video. The timing could not have been better. I just ordered two of the Perfect Aire DIY mini-split units for two separate 1000 sq ft areas in my buiiding in Virginia. I got the 24,000 but size, so hopefully they will be large enough to do the job. I also bought from HVAC Direct. The purchase and shipping went fine. They actually suggested the Perfect Aire over the Mr. Cool because they were a little cheaper. After ordering, I became a little concerned because I could find no RUclips installation videos on the Perfect Aire, only the Mr. Cool. So once again, it was very reassuring to see your very recent upload experience. Great explanations. I literally just received my shipment a couple days ago, so haven't even opened them yet. So, I may have some additional questions for you down the road if you don't mind. But I have two right now. 1) You said the drain hose was not included. Does that mean the drain house from the indoor head unit running to the outside, or a different drain hose running from the outdoor unit? 2) When you did your disconnect box, did you use a fused or non-fused? Thanks very much for your help. P.D.

      No worries. Glad to provide some direction. :-). So the head unit has a 2 foot'ish hose coming from it. Enough to get through the wall pass thru hole. You will need to extend that hose to its drained destination. The outdoor Condesator unit comes with a rubber o ring and plastic elbow that goes to the drain hole on the bottom os the unit. You need a hose to direct water from that unit to its destination. If out doors, less important as it can drain into the bare ground.
      Ok, the disconnect is a safely feature. If you are working on the outdoor unit or indoor head unit for that matter, you would turn off the breaker at the box. You would also pull the bridge on the disconnect and set it aside. That is to protect you from some yahoo turning on the breaker (Not knowing you are working on it) and electrocuting you. Finish maintenance, put the bridge back in and turn on the breaker...back in business. Fuse is not necessary as the breaker is the trip for surges, shorts, etc.
      Hope this helps. Remember, this is high voltage that can kill. Be careful and get a Pro. :-)

    Btw if anyone is questioning putting this in, dont. Mom of 3 and did flares, connections, drilled holes through walls etc. by myself and I did not have diy unit. Only unit for diy is single head. I bought a dual zone. My brother did lines for me and my electrician dad did electric. I was quoted 8000 to put unit in. No thanks.

      The DIY is appealing because of the insane amount that companies want to charge for the installation. Yes, there is work involved, but seriously $8k install for a $2k product

      @Albert Greuter same as whole house automatic generator. Unit was $2600 at home depot. Contractor wanted $$7500 to install unit. I asked him how long it would take to do the work. He told me him and a helper would be done in a day and a half. I asked him why he thought his labour was worth so much and he said it is what it is and if I didn't like his price I could get someone else or try to do it myself. I went with doing it myself after watching a couple.e of you tube videos. Took two weekends to complete. I did the same thing with my heat pump, I absolutely refuse to be hosed by Contractors who think the sun shines out of their butts!

    Awesome I was just asking about keeping the condenser unit in my barn and was told it’s a bad idea. Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking about this. Also, why have a disconnect if you have the breaker only a few feet away??

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  3 года назад

      no issues at all and the unit of course looks brand new still. I think the issue is good ventilation. There is no exhaust so nothing dangerous just need it to breath when it is hot during AC production. The disconnect...because i had it and to keep inspectors away. ;-)

      @@davidstanley9547 does not your garage get hot in summer when the you are running in cooling mode?

    • @iheartbeets
      @iheartbeets Год назад

      A disconnect is typically required when there is no unit switch. The NEC states that the disconnect should be readily accessible and in line of site. In this installation, the breaker would probably have sufficed but the disconnect is good practice.

    I did not buy fit unit but, luckily, have hvac friends that helped. Question. I’m aware the unit has defrost mode but there is no info for drain pan heaters. Have not had issues with freezing but was wondering g if any of you have experience with this for these perfect site units. Mine has been on for a year so far. Temps from 100 down to teens, it’s a workhorse. Loving it.

    I heard that you should not put the compressor in the garage as it will turn the garage into a fridge.

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  4 года назад +1

      Donald McPherson true. It gets cold if it runs for a long period of time in the winter. That said, it is not insulated so does not bother me. More annoying is in the summer it makes it hot. But I just open the garage door if I need to be in there.

    Thanks - helpful video - doing my research on these, as the moment an installer is involved, it gets expensive. Any concerns about maintenance?

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  4 года назад

      zero concern. SO DANG EASY. There is little i can see that will need maintenance. Only reason i would ever bring a pro is if i did not know electric or if installing a multi-head unit with cut to length tube sets.

      @@davidstanley9547 Thanks. We have no natural gas where we live, so our house is baseboards. Our electricity is cheap and we're on the coast, so doesn't drop too far below freezing, but still adds up. I usually use firewood, but have been looking at a heat pump for a year or two - it's a lot of work to buck and split 3-4 cords.
      I hadn't see the DIY version - most required flaring, vacuuming lines, etc. The 36000 BTU unit looks ideal for our house.

      David Griffiths no regrets. As there is not heat coils or radiant fins it is super efficient.

    Did any of you do two indoor units with one condenser? I have a question. I bought 18,000 btu condenser with 9,000 and 12,000 btu Indoor units. The line sets for 12,000 btu unit has 1/2” and 3/8” lines. The condenser has 1/4” and 3/8” lines, same as 9,000 btu indoor unit. Obviously not quick connect. Do I need adapter to connect 12,000 btu Indoor unit to condenser? Which do you recommend?

      It’s still running as good as new. I did have to get the refrigerant recharged a tiny bit but pretty sure that was my fault on it installation as it was my first time doing it but the unit is running terrific. HVAC direct does have their own line that they are selling and I have one of those as well that works terrific

    Thanks for the video Looking to install one this weekend. Question. I see guys with the lines all coiled up as they are long. Is that ok or should they be stretched out.

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  5 лет назад

      coiled is fine as is is pressurized. Cant cut the DIY stuff shorter as you lose the quick fittings. Only way to lay flat and stretched out would be if it was just the right distance by coincidence. :-) Make sure your condensation line is not coiled though. You can cut it to length as it is just hose.

    I'm considering buying the PA 18k unit as you have. However I have never seen a compressor installed inside before. What is the benefit (or consequences) of installing your compressor in your garage vs outside? Obviously the air in your garage will always be warmer than outside, so it wouldn't have to work as hard. I live in south Nova Scotia, where temperatures rarely get less than -10 celsius (14 fahrenheit), do you think this system would work for a 400sq ft space? Thanks very much for your videos on this unit! very helpful.

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  4 года назад

      should be more than enough which is just right. :-) Indeed, the garage made sense as it is warmer and totally protects the unit from the elements. The garage is well ventilated too so was not worries about airflow at all.

    How does it heat, like if the temp gets to 30f, how warm can you get it in your building space?

    • @davidstanley9547
      @davidstanley9547  5 лет назад +2

      Ronnie Saltsman amazing how well it does heat. Apparently it will operate with external temps of -13. Have not had weather that cold while using but can tell you this past winter it was close. The heat it puts out is hot! As it is not heating cold air into hot it is excellent. And it is not sucking 3000w of power like a radiant heater. Very efficient and with the blower it heats the large space quickly. Air is moving so very even in the space.
