      What is the length of the bed with the tailgate open. Need to decide what type of in bed camper to build!

  • @MoragTong_
    @MoragTong_ 5 лет назад +13

    Why is everyone on here crying about the bed size like its an F-150 or something? The Gladiator is set to compete with the Toyota Tacoma(and similar), which has a 5ft bed in the crew cab configuration. You don't hear people crying about the bed size on that rig. This thing isn't for hauling gravel or 30ft ladders...its a sport truck and its going to sell like CRAZY. Lots of Tacoma owners would love to get Rubicon like off-road ability from the factory and now they can. I will wait until CPO rigs are available in the next year or so...but I am getting one asap. My JKU is great but this is exactly what myself and thousands of Jeep owners have been waiting for. The best part is, all of the new model issues are being squared away on the JL, so this truck should be relatively trouble free.

    A 2-door with a longer bed would definitely be a welcomed option. Can’t imagine me putting a camper on a 5 ft. Bed; I’m 6’4” and my wife is 5’4”.

    • @markbatzel
      @markbatzel 5 лет назад

      I'd love to see a 2-door diesel option too but with a 5ft bed it will do fine for a camper. Taco's have been doing it for years. Its not a camper you see on a F-350

    I always wanted a Hummer but it felt like it was just to much and a little overbearing, but I always believed that if a middle ground could be found with a Jeep pick up truck demonstrating that same rugged military styling it would be a perfect fit for me, and though I was hopeful I didn’t really expect Jeep to meet up with that combined style. Boy was I wrong, they met my hopes with great detail.

      I’ve had a hummer h2 and h3. Although the 3 is like driving a couch, it pales in off road compared to a jeep. The h2 , even though I put 3” lift and 35’s, still didn’t do as well as any jeep I’ve had or have now. Plus the h2 has way too many blind spots for anything serious without a spotter. I’m on #17 for jeeps. Have a 2010 4 door jku with 4” an 35’s. Absolutely my favorite. I’m sure I’ll grab the Gladiator in 5 years, once they get traded in. Zach, I don't know how many Chevy Colorados I've pulled through mud. No power in these new v6's. I'm saying none of the new "suv's" have any power. Unless you do a lot of work to it. Would have to put locking diffs on the front and the rear. New transfer case, bigger gearing. Bigger Axel's. It won't make it stock. Whereas a stock 90's Wrangler will, all day everyday. And they just get tougher the further back you go. They dumbed down 4x4's for emissions reasons and consumer reasons. More sorority girls will drive these than outdoors men. Fiat knows that. It's just not a capable off road vehicle. Note that all he talked about was cargo. He didn't mention approach, departure, break over, nothing. It's not an off road vehicle. It's a grocery getter. So is the Colorado. The real 4x4's are gone bud. You have to build it if you want it. A Suzuki Samari would make these look like a Barbie Jeep out in the sticks. A Nissan patrol would leave this thing. My xj would have to pull it out. Just like the stupid jks, every weekend.

    Want an underpowered truck with miniature bed that's insanely overpriced then here you go problem solved. Jeep or should I say fiat needs to get back to their roots or they risk losing a huge customer base. Jeep has been living off a name for far too long now

    • @GuitarSolosInc.

      I live and die by my 95 xj. Jeep nowadays is sorority girl, frat boy specific. I don't know how many of these overweight Fiats I've pulled out of puddles, but it's getting ridiculous. The engine barley moves that big body, let alone pushes it through mud. It's kinda funny. My 4,000 dollar xj puts these 50,000 dollar grocery getters to shame!!!!! But you can get some ply wood back there all day. The future of Jeep is looking grim. They ride the fame and power of 20+ yo models that were made by AMC. These Fiats are not even close to the preformance of the AMC Jeep. Maybe on paper, but on the trails they fail on the easiest spots. While all the real jeepers stand by and wait, then have to go get a real Jeep to pull you guys out.

Anyone thinking of wasting money on the Gladiator might have to look at an old Jeep Comanche from the Cherokee era. I really think this Pentastar V6 though is weak as hell to be pushing a 4,650 lb car versus the 3200 lb Cherokee being pushed by the venerable 4.0L I6 that churns out 200 hp 280lb ft torque instead of the weak torque numbers we're seeing from the Pentastar compared to it's curb weight. I may end up getting a 4.7L stroker engine with 270HP 320lb ft of torque for my Cherokee someday but I'm just as happy keeping it stock

    Shallow bed. Can't even accomodate my yeti with a tonneau. From my experience roadtripping coast to coast, people will steal anything they can. So a locking tonneau is a must for that, especially since there is ZERO cargo room inside. Great vehicle but for my needs, I'm sticking with a JLU SUV. You'd need either a off road trailer to tow or short cargo tubs and coolers if you need a tonneau and secure cargo space.

  • @jakeehrlich4068
    @jakeehrlich4068 5 лет назад

    been excited abut this truck option for years. However, there is one major disappointment. Why would they not make the rear doors like the front doors to make getting in and out more accessible. With the extended frame and body of the gladiator, there is no reason to keep the curve in the door to allow for the rear tires. Brings me back to my CJ-5 days. wish they would fix this. then it would be perfect.

    • @Quadratec
      @Quadratec  5 лет назад

      Our guess... it's simply a cost and manufacturing savings. The front and rear doors are 100% interchangeable with the JL Wrangler. Using the same door streamlines the manufacturing process and saves on having 2 rear door stampings.

    • @jakeehrlich4068
      @jakeehrlich4068 5 лет назад

      I agree. I guess they could have used the front door stamp for the rear doors. like some of the aftermarket conversions have done. that would have been perfect and given just a little more room for legs, entry and exit.
