    I still use a set of hart audio cables from like 5 years ago. Sucks they're harder to get now as the creator got ill a while back, but they are perfect to me. The connection is really strong, can swap just the headphone portion, whatever color you want, and it's a really smooth connection without sharp edges.

      that is a super good point, mad to think I carry a pair of "value" wired inears as an emergency in case my Bluetooth things fail on me. I mean, the sound is better on the main pair, but you still wonder why. Then I remembered I was forever breaking the cables on my wired headphones when out and about, catching them on this and that which ended up costing me a fortune. Still wish I wasn't so clumsy though, luckily my xm4s will still work when cabled even if the battery is flat, so, you know, not awful I suppose. I tell you what though, I wouldn't take my really nice pair out and about.

    We do Iem monitoring for musicians from clubs to concerts. We’ve been making cables like this with a plug and connector instead of a splitter for years. We use a short cable to a receiver pack or a long one to a drummer ,as an example. It makes the cables much more versatile. It’s actually almost exactly what you have there except we have many sizes to attach at the split; in the studio it might be a 6’ or a 10’, 20’ , or what the job calls for. It works great for us. All the best, Sonny T

    It’s good to see options, however, I see this as notably inferior to Hart Audio Cables in every way except speed/ease of connection (good and bad) and cable weight/thickness (I prefer hart, but it’s a matter of preference). Having that size connection at the split just seems too heavy and bulky, getting multiple connect types and split types is more expensive with the connection point at the split, not to mention less travel/packing friendly, and as others have noted, I’m curious how likely shorting could be relying on 4.4 for the quick connect.
    I’m sure it’ll be loved and great for some, but too many downsides in my book, despite me enjoying Periapt cables.

  • @dkomanek
    @dkomanek 9 месяцев назад +13

    I would be afraid to use this with XLR on the amplifier. 4.4mm can short when plugging in while XLR doesn't do this so the amp might not be designed to handle this.

    I like that Periapt went with taking the connector to the bottom of the splitter, and using the heavy cable sheath.
    I have no idea who the original brand was, but some gear I got from a family member from possibly late 70's, and definitely from the 80's, was these 18"-24" short cables, with a 6' coiled cable. Similar idea. I never understood why it didn't take off, where you have all these 3', 6' or 10' cables.

    Super cool to see this idea getting picked up. I presented a rough draft of this idea to the headphones subreddit a while back and no one really got it or they thought it was pointless. So I went out and made it myself. I made a y split section for both a Meze Empy and Sennheiser, and it plugged into the main portion via mini-xlr. The main cable was 4-pin XLR. People were more receptive after seeing an actual finished product. It was pretty rough since it was my first ever DIY cable and I went hardmode by starting out with this design, but it worked well. Took about 50 hours all in to make all 3 pieces.

    Hey! Just popping into the comments here because as you all know, we are the beginning and end of modular cable systems (that was a joke, relax 😂), and I'm sure comparisons will be made.
    Periapt does great stuff! Go with them if you'd like. Or give our stuff a shot if you'd like.
    I'll say I've been asked many times why we don't / didn't base our modular system around the 4.4mm connection instead of the mini-XLRs we use.
    The reason is because in my experience, female phone connectors just don't hold up to as many plug / unplug cycles as the connectors we went with do. But that limitation might be a non-factor for a lot of people.
    Finally, I'll say that if someone wants us to make custom cables for them based around the 4.4mm connection instead of our mini-xlr stuff, we can do that no problem, just send a request in at the custom shop request page on our site 👍🏼
    Of course the periapt option here looks great too 👍🏼🔥

  • @TheJjjoj
    @TheJjjoj 9 месяцев назад

    I literally have this exact thing that I got custom made with the only exception that the split plug is male to female on the headphone side, and male to male on the extension to amp side so that the extension cable can be used as its own cable when plugging in headphones with single 3.5mm connectors. Easily the best purchase I ever made. This is awesome to see someone finally take the initiative with a standard, easy to order, option. In case I need a replacement somewhat quickly for one of my splits, hopefully they can do this change custom at low or no additional cost since periapt says they accept customizations on these orders.
    Oh, and to be clear, I use a 10ft 4.4mm to 3.5mm male to male for the extension and just flip it around for single 3.5mm headphones into my amp with another short male 3.5mm to female 4.4mm connector. I also have a good 4.5ft male to male 3.5mm cable for single 3.5mm headphones and a 3ft 4.4mm to 3.5mm cable for the splits whenever I just want to connect them to my phone to move around. I'm sure at some point I will make several more lengths of extensions but it hasn't been necessary yet.

    Hmm, I don’t see the advantage of this system and its cost unless you are reviewing and using many headphones a day. In my listening room, I have a headphone hanger with the cables attached to the two main headphones that I use, and everything plugs into the same extension cable, so this seems like its usefulness is for a (niche) group. It appears that you are just shortening the main headphone cable and that may be beneficial if you don't want 4-10 ft cables hanging off your headphones while they are on a hanger or stand. If I happen to be on the go, I use wireless IEMs.

      it depends on the AMP that the wireless system it has.
      1st forget about the IEM's because due to their design they are bound to be lossy but this is not exactly an issue: models like Moondrop space travel or mainstream options like Galaxy buds are good enough.
      but when you take headphones into equation things get more interesting. first you have a ton of free space; you can showe a Cirrus Logic or ESS Dac right into headphone. second you got the option of DSP system; long storys short you can make a bad driver sound great, a good driver sound AMAZİNG with this tech. just look at the audeze maxwell (And Crin's project dusk V2)
      onşy issue is the battery wear and tear but this can be solved with a replaceable battery system. old Nokia Bl5c batteries have a ton of energy potential a bigger version of this would be able to give you an all week battery life.
      all theres left is a fast wireless connection and qualcomm chips can handle that

    I had the same idea gor my corded powertools. I hate that every tool comes with a permanent cable that just makes it difficult to store neatly. Plan on cutting all the cords to maybe 10 inches and use a few extension cable reels to clean everything up.

    why dont headphone manufacturers just make headphones with a single cable like most beyerdynamic headphones? whats the point of having cables coming out of each earcup?

    Bro thats my idea :D
    about a month ago I was brainstorming with one of my friends and we basically come up with this exact -well kinda exact design.
    ours had a twist lock system at the middle and we also thought about using a multi-connector system at the source end, kinda like the ones that come with the IEMs like Thieaudio Monarch or Letshuoer S12 pro.
    I was thinking about partnering with HifiGo for distribution and a Chinese OEM for manufacturing.

    wdym no conflict of interest? do you not make money from a product with your name on it? If you make any amount of money from this there is a conflict of interest. That doesn't necessarily mean that what you're saying about it isn't impartial, but there's still an undeniable conflict of interest. Obviously you can make a good review about something that you profit from, but denying that there exists a conflict of interest is wrong
