    Hi 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 L 4x4
    Random stall out at idle, got stranded idling in parking lot at work, thought it was fuel pump becuase would crank no start, banged on pump would start with stepping on gas , would idle perfectly fine.
    Driving home dies again, I repeat to see how far I go, down the block from home I start to push cuz it woundnt start, I let cool off and it starts.
    1 week later I turn it on first try and start (didn’t drive it though), replaced fuel pump (I can hear it when key in ON).stayed idling for 29 minutes. Then dyed.
    Sometimes it start sometimes it doesn’t, oil pressure good, battery good, Ac perfect, tested all fuses( not relays) can’t find fuel pump fuse.
    With light tester, Took off and Tested ignition coil read fine. Took off coil connected to spark plug and was fine.
    Thinking bad pick up sensor that’s under distributer?
    Has code P0505 for IAC but I replaced it a year ago and it’s still had code but never stalled until now. Could it be bad PCM?

    • @JM-AUTO
      @JM-AUTO  3 месяца назад

      if spark, fuel, air and compression is fine you might have a bad pcm but if you have access to a scanner that has that ability to read live data then you should see what is happening when engine is running and get freeze frame data even if there is no check engine light. but if you have spark, fuel and, air and compression then the engine should start so eliminate one by one so you can determine what the problem is. thanks for sharing

    Brass distributor caps and the more expensive brass rotor last a lot longer. I try to only use the better cap and wires on mine because it's such a pain to get to on these engines. And dielectric grease on the contacts so they don't corrode. I just use the stock Champion plugs because I've used the expensive ones before, and I noticed no difference except the price.

    • @JM-AUTO
      @JM-AUTO  Год назад +1

      thanks for sharing, im a fan of diagnising the problem first before replacing, have you checked for spark coming out of every ignition component? have you checked the electrical part of the ignition system components, if it would be the pcm or crank sensor then you also dont have fuel, do you have a spark tester to check what component is firing and which one is not? do that and let me know.

      @@JM-AUTO yes I have a spark tester, tested at the distributor first replaced it then tested at the coil no spark there either, replaced it , thought the wires might be bad so replace them still no Spark, replaced the crankshaft sensor, also I sprayed ether in the carburetor while cranking so if there was any fire at all it would have tried to start, one clue I was told about the computer is when you turn the key to the on position if you don't see a check engine light and I don't see one when I turn it on

    This is a common problem with Dodge/Jeep Dakota's, Rams, Wranglers. Random crank/no start and stalling suddenly. I've seen people replace the coil, cap/rotor, camshaft and crankshaft sensor, fuel pump and finally PCM. No one has the right answer on why this happens. A vehicle that suddenly stops at highway speeds is dangerous and their should be a massive lawsuit. When the vehicle doesn't want to start, gauges are dead. Then later on gauges come alive and vehicle starts

Im pretty sure I have a bad crank position sensor, but cant be sure. If Im reading right, the tach needle should move when cracking if crank position sensor works. Can you confirm that please? Hey buddy, not sure if you reply often
    Long story short lost my brother he had 98 ram with 318 engine. I got it running, and I figured I would change spark plugs distributor cap wires and rotor.
    I changed everything and now my truck barely turns over ( only if you press throttle down ) and it runs very rough. Shuts down if you let off gas, and the belt is squeeking and wasn’t before.
    I ended up putting old distributor cap back on, old rotor back on, and I even took out plugs and gapped them correctly. Truck will not run and runs rough. I really don’t know what to do now..

    • @JM-AUTO
      @JM-AUTO  2 года назад

      the darkgreen/orange wire is the +b from the asd relay and goes to pin 57 on the engine controller(pcm) if every thing is ok with the crankshaft position sensor the engine controller will ativate the asd relay so the asd relay will energize the ignition coil on wire darkgreen/orange. the gray wire is the coil driver and it goes to pin 19 on the engine controller. if engine controller does not receive signal from crankshaft sensor it will disable ignition coil and fuel pump.

      what engine do you have 5.2 or 5.9, do you hear the fuel p when turn ignition on? if you dont hear the fuel p check fuse and relay for the fuel p, if the truck starts when you spray stater fluid then there is no need to check the ASD relay. it depends on what symptoms you getting you might have to bring down the fuel tank again to directly check the 4 wires that connect to the fuel p to see if it is getting power and ground, if every thing checks out good with the wires the you have a bad fuel p but first check fuse and relay.

      @@ElGordito85 yes that was a few months ago and the distribuitor cap was the problem, it is best to check what the truck is missing so you can replace the part that really needs to be replaced.

      im glad you did a great job. in my case I diagnosed the problem and the problem was the distributor cap, the distributor was good and the pcm sends signal or spark to the igniter and the igniter sends spark to the distributor if every thing else is fine. thanks for your comment and God bless you and your family as well.
