The Behringer Model D is an homage (or clone, depending on your point of view...) to the classic and legendary Minimoog Model D.
Behringer's main achievement, aside from creating a faithful and great sounding synth, is pricing it at $300. In this video I review some of the "cons" of this synth, and the many "pros" that make it a very enjoyable synthesizer, including three oscillators, a classic ladder filter, 5 modulation sources, two envelopes, two LFOs and a small but capable set of patch points.
    Gear used alongside the D:
    The Arturia Keystep
    Cremacaffe Kosmo stand

I own a model D for a few months now. Mine turned out to be a semitone out of tune as well. As a first-time synth owner I was a bit scared to do it myself but after watching Behringer's tutorial video 15 times to be sure that i'm doing it right, it actually turned out to be very easy to do it. I didn't use a voltmeter or anything. I just used a screwdriver and Ableton's tuner to fix it. It was actually pretty easy.
It's a pretty good learning synth. 3 osc, noise, and the nice filter allow you to do a lot of things already. Eventually the need for a polyphonic synth arisen and when I heard about Poly D, I actually got pretty excited. But when I heard the price I changed my mind and ordered a deepmind 12 instead.

Great review. I've had the chance to compare the Model D to my 1975 vintage Minimoog D, and was thoroughly impressed. Great job Behringer. Only very very slight differences between the two, and only on very specific things like the behavior of the feedback trick. But that might even be like that between two genuine Minis anyway. In a blind test, nobody could tell which was which (we were four musicians doing the comparison). And the added LFO is really helpful. Nice Lucky Man patch, although missing some reverb... ;-)

For the people talking about tuning and calibration, as with most Moog synths, they drift, a lot. But if you wait they will become stable over time, same goes for many discrete oscillators and the Behringer Model D. For example the Moog SP can take up to 45 mins. To become completely stable. So 15 mins for the Model D isnt that bad. As for all analog oscillators, you will have to calibrate them, that can be done with a tuner. Usually this process must be done several times until you get the best tracking. I have not read the manual but I can imagine that the multimeter will be used to calibrate the Vsup to whatever feeds the oscillators. For example the Yamaha CS10 and 15 will need to have the power supply adjusted/calibrated too. BUT usually there is no need to calibrate the tracking over several oct. As it had already been done from the factory. So do not panic, it's completely normal. Mind you, tuning and calibration is not the same, and usually there is no need for calibration, maybe every 5-10 years it can become necessary and it really isnt that complicated once you get a hang of it. I think the cal. Process which is automated on the Moog SP can take 1-2 hours. I guess the Behringer model D can be manually calibrated in 15 mins. - the warmup time.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing this. I like your way of describing how things work. e.g. LFO is automatic knob movement... Well done!

The software has a tuning walk through now, handy.

You talk about knob swap for filter CO. the tune knob in controllers is perfect for this and they really pop off and on very easily. I changed mine, works great.

You have learned me a lot.
How much the ADS(R) and amount of contour work together. I think that is the big wonder for me.
    Thank you.very much!

Great video. I’m new to this because I could never afford a Moog. I’m a song writer and I thought this would be a great intro synth for sampling. Thanks for the video. I’d love to see more or you doing this with Eurorack gear or the Neutron. Thanks!

Thanks! Yes there’s plenty more of me messing around with eurorack on the channel and I do want to get to neutron at some point

I made my decision after I saw the tuning process and a soldering iron!

Soldering iron? Not needed. Those were the leads from a voltmeter or multimeter.
