    You can pull the absolute most out of a piece of gear, man! I get inspired to play with my synths from watching you. Thanks!

    Great video, only found by accident. I thought I knew the filter on my Model D; it would now appear that I didn’t. I’ve certainly never used all three oscillators turned up to 10!

    i love the HP - I know many don't but i think the fact it's a bit wonky by design is a great addition, has a super sound too

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад

      I like the HP too, then take the whole output out into another filter to have the low pass still. That's a nice way to work.

    • @alunmauve
      @alunmauve 6 лет назад +1

      It sounds like the HP is in parallel with an unfiltered copy. I thought mine was faulty and watched this video to see if Ben’s (DivKid) was the same. It is. Could this be by accident? I would have preferred a normal HP filter.

    Doesn't sound as creamy as some of the best Eurorack filters out there, and doesn't have as many possibilities, but definitely sounds like a classic. Pretty cool at this price.

      Yeah, most eurorack filters are not only really creamy but also very tomatoey with a nice peanuty texture. Although they also tend to have a really nice brown gravy overtone.

    The filter tracking via CV works like it does in a modular setup, ie if you don't send it a control voltage it doesn't get controlled. They might have thought that connecting it internally to the oscillator's CV would be potentially limiting.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад

      I understand that but it has switches to turn it on and off. So you'd expect it to take the 1v/oct signal and send that to the filter as well on those switches. Freeing up the modulation input for other modulation. It's workable in a modular system and no problem other MIDI/USB so it's a minor gripe. I also showed filter tracking with the CV in this video.

    The HPF option is a nice addition I wasn’t aware of. Wonder why they decided to add that, as most of the rest of it seems to be a 1:1 clone? HPF with a res boost will be great to add some serious weight to a triangle bass.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад

      Not sure other than they thought it added more shaping options and had room for the switch. It's good that it's there. And yeah otherwise it's a close recreation.

  • @ubiquitousreverser

    Really enjoy this series of videos altogether. I am curious about the audio rate source that you feed into the cutoff cv to get that static vocal effect? I only have a sub phatty and the D, is there a way to get audio rate modulation from the limited outputs of my sub phatty to feed into the filter cutoff to get the same effect? Thanks again for all the content, I'll be learning a lot off of all your stuff to get more acquainted with my behringer D. Love those AFX like licks man, this synth has amazing old-school vibe!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      Cheers and yeah it's possible. Play the model D as is and use a clean waveform out of the Sub Phatty into the filter cut off and you should be fine. For that clean waveform you could have an oscillating filter or a filter waveform. You'll need to hold a key done or get the VCA to stay wide open so it's a constant audio source.

      I tried it out a bit at my local music shoppe the other day, and it feels like a lot of bang for your buck. I'm gonna have to try that audio rate FM trick with my AJH MiniMod VCF later... I've got a Doepfer case to fill before I look at other synths! :S

    Hey man, thanks for the video. So I had a question, I am sorry if it comes across as a stupid question. This is the first piece of analog gear I have bought, when I play it with my midi keyboard, it’s on point. When I try to send arpeggios through Ableton, it just doesn’t right. The sequences sound sloppy. Is there a way around it? Or should be I saving some money to buy a sequencer?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +4

      no stupid questions, we all start somewhere so you're welcome to ask questions anytime.
      It should work exactly the same with Ableton if you're just plugging MIDI in.
      You could have the envelopes set that they're too long so the notes aren't resetting and playing through the notes properly.

    Perfect demo as usual, now i need to go and play some alien-bongo on the moogerfooger filter :) BTW if i remember correctly i got quite good 1V/octave tracking on the moogerfooger after attenuating the cutoff CV in, (seems like the tracking is something like 200%) maybe it is similar on the model D?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Magnus, not sure what the Foogers are expecting re tracking. I'd imagine 1v/oct like other Moog units but anywhere an attenuator/amplfiier is involved there's going to be tweaking to do.

    I bet Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd could have used the heck out of one of these back in the 70's. And then utilized a whole rack of them, instead of the very noisy and costly VCS3's

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      I've played around on a pair of VCS3s and instability is part of the charm. Not very useful for specific musical lines but really good fun.

    Does the signal goes from 3-Osc.Mixer to VCF then to output?

      signal flow is oscillators, mixer, filter, VCA (loudness section), output.

    Great vids, I hope to get one soon. What, specifically, external gear are you plugging into the "cut cv" @11:59? Thanks!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      It was a euro rack oscillator running up at audio rates. So an oscillator from my modular case. Which oscillator, honestly, is irrelevant for the most part. It was just a sine wave. Sweeping the pitch from low sub audio LFO stuff up through audio range and you can even go super sonic with some oscillators too. The overall effect vaguely mimics the tones of down sampling which is often coupled into Bit Crushers as part of that affect. It's not that and it's not a digital thing but tonally there's similarities. It's also similar to AM modulation which is amplitude modulation. But we're actually modulation the cut off frequency of the frequency at audio rates. Hope that's helpful.

    Very nice series of videos!!! Thank you so much for sharing them. Thanks to your work I have bought one of this Mini Mini synths ( an I already have to Moogs).
    I wanted to ask you about the filter. The filter in my unit doesn't fully close in Low pass, is this normal? I mean, does the one in you synth fully close? In the video looks like that. Thank you again

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      I haven't used it for a little while but I think it does fully close from memory. I'll check when I get chance but the unit isn't out and reachable at the minute.

  • @TooSlowTube

    How practical would it be to use an external filter, but keep the use of both envelopes? Is there an output from the mixer, before the filter section? EDIT: I see you've made a video about the mixer and there is. I thought the purple cable in it was being used as the audio out, at first.
    There seem to be outputs from both envelopes (CV envelope level, presumably), and you said there's no output from the filter - it just goes straight to the VCA, controlled by the loudness envelope, so I guess using an external filter means using an external VCA too...

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah that's the case. OR ... leave this filter up full go through the VCA then go into your external VCA. So the patch is VCOs (oscillators) through wide open filter not doing anything into VCA to shape the loudness/amplitude and then go into the external filter.

    Man, stumbled across this synth on accident. I'm so glad I did. I was lookin for something to break away from staring at a laptop screen (occasionally) also I started with hardware but moved away from sampling too much. Would this be good for 80's and 90's west coast funk sounds?
    Regardless, this will be my next purchase. Sold and Subbed.

      Howard Davis - I’m a drummer/bass payer, but I’ve always been intimidated by analog synths, my good friend plays a real nice moog voyager and recommended the “D” to me (he got one too) and I fell in love wit the learning curve. I use Logic Pro and the project I use it for is a Neo-soul/justice/Daft punk vibe... yeah, highly recommend one
