This video had my cat's full undevided attention! I think he was convinced you were reviewing two Fancy Feast dinners.
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kitty.
He would have been better off eating cat food than those things.
That's funny
I can't believe they even still make these. Even during the shutdown when everyone was panic buying everything they could find, these were still readily in stock and available because no one was buying them.
I once got a whole PALLET of these (I think it came out to 400 trays split into 4 different recipes) for $.79 each from a place I buy a lot of discount stuff from. They weren't bad or expired, someone simply punctured something on the pallet while moving them with a forklift and because of that, the whole pallet needed to be discarded, so I think out of the 400 trays, like 380 were still fine. I gave some to friends and family but I had dinner set for like 6 months.
You ate these for dinner for 6 months.........
WHY?
@@jimdayton8837 No no no no no lol I didn't literally eat them every day, that was just a joke. I'm pretty sure because of how shelf stable they were, they lasted around a year and a half, maybe 2 years.
Do you work in the warehouse?
His future corpse will be well-preserved thanks to all the Hormel preservatives he ate.
Honestly I’d do the same. Meals for 80 cents instead of $1.60 is half price bargain. Also: I suspect these meals taste better if only slightly warmed (overcooking turns them to mush).
I've had several of these and they all were very good I was very surprised at the spaghetti with meat sauce was also good meatloaf Salisbury steak mashed potatoes for $2 it's a quick and easy lunch
I agree. For the price you can't beat it. Get them on sale and stock up.
The spaghetti is so awesome. I love the meatloaf and the one with the dressing. The fried rice is good too. These meals are a nice lil meal in a pinch 💙
If it wasn't for the sodium, I'd eat these Fancy Feast meals
Im an OTR truck driver and while these aren't my favorite, they are very convenient for when I get laid over at a shipper. I can put them in my microwave and have a hot meal.
I always carry them in the truck too. Doctored with a little dried herbs and pepper its not bad. It's not like truckstops are offering much healthy anyway so no since spending $15 for their salt lick meals.
The chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy is fire 🔥. LOVE it!!!! My favorite. I used to keep these Hormel Compleats in my desk drawer for emergencies. There really are some good ones.
I buy the dumplings and chicken meals frequently due to how convenient they are and how healthy they are compared to other quick-and-easy processed meals. They're pretty damn tasty and comforting in a pinch. Black pepper and garlic salt/powder go a long way too. I would definitely recommend them, and I wouldn't say that about the majority of Compleats meals.
Sadly unhealthy and over priced.. But yummy!!
Long run cheaper to make your own for the week.. Or freeze it..
@@brycewaltonsphotography3969key words were **compared to other quick processed meals** Some ppl work for long periods of time and are unable to do this and compared to other heat and eat meals this isn't that bad. You would be able to store and heat this out in a field as for your homemade frozen meals you can't so ..
They could also be handicapped etc. These require no refrigerator so it's quite handy for many reasons.
@@throwinshadz6926 Meh, saying these are 'more healthy' than other processed meals is like saying "eating 2 candy bars a day is healthier than eating 3." The only positive thing about these meals is they don't require refrigeration...
@@KG-xt4oq Which is actually a big deal for ppl that eat out in the field. So this or what? Ramen? Please list things that don't need refrigeration that are better.
We took these on the truck when we were a trucking family. Easy to heat up, available almost anywhere, and a hearty meal on the go, though some meals were yucky. We added canned chicken to the meals with chicken
It absolutely needs a can of chicken, or the protein is way too low.
Seems like a solid idea
The only ones that are hard to find is the Chicken Alfredo one by them.
I stick with Banquet meals that are half the cost & taste faaaar better.
First one looks like that specialty cat food you can get at the vet.
The dumplings and chicken is probably the only one of that entire line that I like. I feel like 10 years ago they were all better than they are now. I used to eat them before I was married and didn’t mind them but, I tried them again recently and blegh
1000% agreed with u and The Wolfe pit
I saw those dumplings at the Dollar General the other day. Now I'll hive them a try.
Thanks for the heads up.
You're the shizz
Give the spaghetti with meat sauce a try. Very tasty! It's one that sells out fast
I’ve got to stock up on these. We are living in uncertain times, that’s for sure, and a few shelf stable meals in the pantry aren’t a bad thing.
Amen to that. These are like civilian MREs.
Yes agreed.
But learning how to can leftovers is even a better idea
What's the best by date on these things?
I stocked up on them during lockdown '20+.
It's an absolutely good idea and gives you some sense of relief.
I've tried all of them... don't get the chicken pot pie stew thing...it's as horrid as demonstrated here.
@@Scott-jz6te
They usually last about a year as I recall...might be wrong though.
Those things have gotten me through some hard times lol. The chicken Alfredo one wasn't bad, all things considered.
Telling "scooter" to go play in the road caught me off guard and I immediately started laughing
Always fun to see a “What are we eating” video!
Agree
@@dannydoughboy120 I have a salt aversion so I let Mr Wolfe Pit do “so I don’t have to!”
@@Donaldopato 😂😂
I soddenly remembered ur channel and finally found it. I love these videos, so relaxing for some reason.
Suddenly FRIIIIIIICK
Used to get these a lot, would stock up on them when they were on sale (used to find deals on them $5 for 5 type sales) and leave them in my desk at work. Made for a good, quick in a pinch lunch if need be and I had some of my favorites (the turkey and stuffing one is one of them).
Me too, until I realized how much sodium I was taking in daily. Doc said no more!
Ooh, the turkey with dressing and gravy - a total keeper.
Turkey and Dressing is my favorite. I have a couple boxes stashed.
You’ve been one of my fav RUclipsrs for years now. Thank you for so much great content.
Also I all but survived on the dumplings and chicken when it first came out.
They both need more vegetables: more carrots, onion, celery, mushrooms, green beans, and peas.
I started stocking these ready meals when I first saw them at my grocery store. I eat through them to keep what I do have of them three years fresh. None have failed that I store
They taste great and much better when goosed up with other items.
They will always be in my long term storage plan until they are no longer produced.
I keep the bowls and use them for various reasons. They last forever.
These are really convenient and generally pretty tasty, but they're so high in sodium! I was eating one of them for lunch every day, but I've got high blood pressure and had to give them up.
I have stage 3 high BP and I add salt.
@@birdlover6842 haha .. i do a large amount of meth before shoveling 5 of these to the dome .. i probably have diseases but i dont go to the dr
I've found the the only Compleats that are really good are just stuff that'd you normally buy in a can like the Chicken and Dumplings or Dinty Moore Stew, other than that if it sounds like something that probably wouldn't be good out of a can it probably isn't.
Love your reviews. And yes. I do base some food purchases on your reviews. Some times I agree, some times not.
That is the most entertaining review I have seen - it was so funny - thank you - I am still laughing
Thanks for the review Wolfe!
You missed the the Compleats Chicken meal close to my heart... the Chicken Breast w/Mashed Potatoes/Gravy. I've been eating those for so long that back when I started, the bowl still was packaged inside a rectangular box! They mucked with the recipe many times over the years, so my liking of them ebbed and flowed. (also, often way too much sodium) but it's still (almost) the only Compleats I'll buy.
When I was in my military school, the chicken and dumplings helped me get through the night when the chow hall was closed.
Thanks for this informative video, dude!!
Thanks for the review, great video.👍
I think Larry has PTSD from the last time he has tried Hormel.
The turkey stuffing and gravy one is awesome.
I bought the turkey dinners and anything with beef in it. They’re a good value!
Their value has gone down in my opinion, they used to be twice the size for the same price.
Absolutely love these videos!
I like the compleats flavors. These included. They aren't great as you said, but they are cheap, quick and the flavor is better than some frozen meals lately. I sometimes warm one of these up before making my ramen after a night of drinking on fridays. Sodium overload, but it's moderated, once a week. my favorites are Salsbury steak, turkey and dressing, chicken breast with mashed potatoes and spaghetti and meat balls. I hope they make more flavors and variants because I do like these a couple times a week.
I eat the Hormel Compleats fairly often. Had the Beef and Mashed Potatoes earlier today for dinner. But, the mashed potatoes are always too stiff.
My favorites are these Dumplings & Chicken, and the Turkey & Dressing. Swedish Meatballs aren't bad. Spaghetti is okay but tangy.
I had that for my lunch break and it was delicious!
Good review , thanks for sharing ,God bless !
I'm curious how much preservative is necessary for shelf stable meals.
They're basically canned, so not much.
Oh yeah, I loved the Dumplings meal when I worked retail. It and the Alfredo were my favorites
Oooh the Chicken Dumplings! Those are are pretty good honestly but yes adding black pepper does really help bring out more flavor.
Hi. May I ask if you have a "victory garden"?
We love these for camping and also "GO" bags. Shelf stable for well over and you don't have to heat to eat (although they are much better warm). You also don't need a microwave to reheat - if you can simply place them in a small pot of warm water if you have any method to heat water. Some flavors are better than others so try a few first.
turkey and dressing, w/ gravy, the dumplings and chicken, and beef stew are usually my go to for compleats meals
I've had the dumplings and chicken before, it actually is good.
I think it is good tasting as well.
never had these, but i like the beef stroganof version of these meals the best, they're quick and easy to heat up for a snack. i think i'll try the pot pie stew next if i can find it, it sounds good to me even if you didn't like it
where did the other 2g of protein come from?
I haven't watched the entire video yet but a few years ago I got one of these for free back when Kroger did their Free Fridays deals. I am a big guy and I am not at all a picky eater. I took one bite of it and threw it in the trash. I didn't even want to try a second bite of it. I can't remember what flavor it was but I don't think the variety really matters at all.
I use to get the Compleat chicken and dumplings, until I tried the chicken alfredo, then bought them a lot. I liked the manicotti (I know it isn't chicken), they were my favorite, but they stopped selling them. I haven't tried many Compleats. When I find something I like, I stick with it.
I eat these almost everyday. First off how did you cook yours? Because mine look nothing like yours do after you cook yours. Second these are absolutely delicious!
I had the chicken alfredo a few years back and for the price I thought is was just fine.
Thanks for the review. I've wondered if those meals were good.
While I was out shopping I found this 3lb can of chili made by Dew Chili Parlor, it has a total 6,000 calories for $17 and has pretty long shelf life. Seemed like something your channel would be interested in.
Thx. I'm going to Walmart tomorrow, I'll give the dumpling one a try 👍😊
Add some drained canned carrots to it. There's no vitamins in this.
Very nice. Thank you. I've tried them all, the best, and the only one I buy, is, specifically, the HORMEL® COMPLEATS® Chicken Breast & Dressing. Try that one...
try the turkey with stuffing and gravy. it used to be a common quick lunch for me and was pretty harty.
You have the pot pie stew thing right.
I've had it and it's inedible.
I have tried some of these, they should be called "Hormel Complaints"
😂🤣
I used to have a few of these stashed in my desk at work. All different flavors. I didn't realize how much sodium they had in them.
I buy them for their lengthy shelf life and like them all. Eat what you store and store what you eat. Plus you get a reuseable container perfect for other uses. Win, win.
Are these intended to be eaten with a side dish of some sort? Because I've noticed many American instant meals are usually pretty small compared to the UK counterparts.
That said you also go to the opposite extreme, having seen like nearly 2kg lasagne on Walmart.
(For reference a usual ready meal here (UK) is about 450g being the most common (they do vary between 350-450) for single serving.
Some of the larger ones at Walmart are meant for multiple people or multiple individual meals
@@Scrap_Goblin we have similar meals here but they tend to top out at about 1.7kg. I'm just curious as to why they go from super small to super large, guess big families or as you said, no numerous servings.
@@sdewey4152 generally there's either small individual meals that are enough to get by or larger "family size" meals there are are sorta in-between sizes that'll come with two maybe three sides or two sides and a dessert as well. The majority go for the extremes as it'll sell better with more modern demographics lot of people looking for either a quick fix or to feed multiple people fairly cheap as opposed to those looking for a more complete individual meal.
@@sdewey4152 1.7KG? This is baby lasagna, why do you insult lasagna like this. and 2KG is still on the smaller side for a family lasagna, here in Canada we sell glorious 2.27KG lasagna, but even that is small compared to home made lasagna.
@@sdewey4152 personally I like meals about this size for lunch yeah it's not a very large meal but it's enough to hold me over until until I get home and eat a proper supper and not so large that it affects me while I'm working. I do mechanic work on larger vehicles mostly so I tend to prefer those small individual meals off set with one or two snacks throughout the day so I don't hit the lethargy and bloating I tend to experience from a proper meal.
I love these things...perfect for a quick meal.
Bless y'all, the french tips throw me off sometimes. ;)
Wait. What did the chicken pot pie stew taste like? Was it too hard to describe?
Thanks Larry!
I like these quite a bit, though the price near me makes them not worth it unless on sale; very easy for work lunches.
When i was young i got one of these meals it was the alfredo i think and me and my dad tried it, it was absolutely horrid. My dad didnt hate it as much as i did but we've never gotten one of these meals since.
I've only ever had the mac & cheese one which is pretty good, But I wouldn't risk trying any of the others.
I had the spaghetti Compleats a few times at lunch, with a small salad and it was pretty good. I've never tried any of the others.
That first meal looked terrifying lol
love the chicken n dumplings with added pepper. yummy.
Lmao at the chicken not being tender joke
Can you give us your chicken and dumplings recipe?
Expensive for the serving size and honestly, they made me nostalgic for MRE’s. I will say their breakfast potatoes with gravy weren’t completely horrible, but again, over priced for the size of the thing.
I've had these, really good
I have tried these and find them very good tasting.
i had the same reaction to that pot pie stew! i couldnt even finish it. i also tried the dumpling one and enjoyed it. if you can get your hands on the hormel turkey and dressing one i think you would like it. that one is my favorite but stay away from the cheese manicotti one. i wouldnt give that one to a dog
Great video.
I remember when these first came out 7-8 years ago; I'm pretty sure the serving size was 10 oz...now it's 7.5? lol...
At any rate, I thought the dumplings and chicken were too salty and never bothered to try any of the other flavors.
I bought the Compleats Turkey and Dressing meal. It was loaded with gravy. I made up some instant mashed potatoes and this one meal made two.
Do you have a Chicken and Dumplings recipe on this channel Larry?
It's made out of YOU, the people!
Back when I didn’t have much money, I would get the chicken and mashed potatoes meal. It was really good, and filled me up.
Holy cow, an 8? From someone that hated Compleats with a passion in the past? Mass hysteria.
I won't lie, I love the Hormel Compleats meals. I'm surprised you're just now trying them. The Chicken Alfredo is definitely my favorite, but as someone else suggested, black pepper and a bit of salt go a long way with these. I like to follow the recommended cooking instructions, but then I open it up, mix it, and then heat it for another 20-30 seconds or so. I've never had the chicken pot pie stew, but something must have been wrong because all of their meals are usually pretty good.
Larry I'd like to see you make your own version of this, it probably would be way better and healthier
I use to buy the macaroni one and eat it while Tripping pipe . When I worked in the oil field
The breakfast were the only ones worth getting
I found some Hormel completes on amazon that are pretty decent maybe you can check them out and compare
Love your videos Wolfpit
I like the Dumplings and Chicken too and will occasionally buy them for work lunch, but yes, they do need black pepper
These dinners can get you through it.
I don't eat these as much as the bagged Prego Ready Meals, and then only when I'm home alone and don't feel like fussing to cook just for myself. But I microwave some vegetables to go with them and some I'll add a mini can of chicken because otherwise the nutrition isn't there. I treat the ready meals more like a sauce on low carb veggies. They're too soupy on their own.
I think hormel has a very distinctive taste in all their foods . I recently seen the grocer had premade beef tips I didn't even look at the maker I ordered from instacart and it looked decent. Well, when I heated it and tasted it, I was immediately aware it tastes like hormel. It's a chemical taste. So, I thought I'll just make a home made gravy and enhance and hide that one flavor that stands out. To my surprise there was plenty of meat nice and tender. And adding my gravy leveled up. I made mashed potatoes and served it on top. It was very good. I'd do again. I just have to adjust to my liking. Especially black pepper ✌🙂. Tell me what you think? I also have burnt ends to try this week, I'll let you know.
Wonder if you can put these in boiling water with a lid to cook in a SHTF situation?
I wouldn't use boiling water because I don't know if the upper lid would survive. I buy Chunky Soup for shtf preparedness. You can get ones that are lower sodium so it doesn't make you so thirsty you need your stored water.
@@MilwaukeeWoman Yeah you wanna use just enough to steam cook them a guy on RUclips who camps a lot did it.
The music... This music. It does something to me.
They used to be available in Canada up until about 7 years ago. Not sure if the chicken and dumplings was ever on shelves here, since that's a dish that doesn't exist up here. I do remember there was a sausage rigatone that I enjoyed. Tasted like Chef Boyardee, but just a bit different. Kind of miss that taste.
Chef Boyardee tastes good? I know this is apocalypse food but other than nuclear holocaust I couldnt eat canned macaroni full of sugar sauce.
Im curious how you'll rate the meatloaf, gravy and mashed potato compleats. I actually like it, Its the furthest thing from homemade meatloaf but it's pretty darn good for what it is.
Are the potatoes still gray? They were the last time I had them.
I remember eating this for 7 straight days when prepping for my final exam for a Finance course. I shudder when I think of that chicken.
Most shelf stable foods expire in months, so can't stockpile, as a chef we price foods out, I did some math, I can make chicken and dumplings with veggies and make 16 pints to jar for $1.14 each and last for couple years if they make it. That's with a whole chicken and still have chicken salad lol. But if looking to just eat them go for it, to stockpile start canning (should anyway) or buy MRE's, Walmart has some meals cheap in camping section too, but need water 👍
I grew up in the Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish region. Pot Pie to us, is in fact, a stew. It's pie in a pot. There's no crust. The specially made noodles are square and absorb the delicious broth. I prefer this version over anything with a crust.
I have tried a couple of these but you don't get much and they just OK
Dude, these meals are awesome
