- Full written recipe:
Serves 2
Irish Soda Bread
Makes 1 loaf, which makes 1 bread bowl, to make a 2nd loaf double the recipe then form into two balls prior to baking
1 cup of milk
1 tablespoon of vinegar
Mix together and set aside for 5 minutes (substitute for buttermilk)
2 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Sift together in a bowl and stir in milk a little at a time until a dough ball forms. Try not to make the dough too wet or too dry, adding more milk and flour as needed to get to the right consistency.
Form into a dough ball, add to a parchment lined baking sheet, and cut a + into the top with a sharp knife
Preheat oven to 450 degrees with a metal pan inside the oven, add 1/2 cup of water to the pan to create steam. Add your bread into the oven and bake for 20 minutes. allow to cool completely.
French Onion Soup:
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
3 cups of sliced onions (I used the frozen pepper stir fry and just separated the peppers from the onions by hand)
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
2 to 3 cups of beef broth
1 tablespoon of caramelized onion Flavor Up
In a pot, add oil and onions, saute on medium low heat for 25 to 30 minutes until onions are all evenly golden brown in color. Time is your friend here, you don't want to speed this along to prevent burning the onions. Add 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour and continue to cook for 2 to 3 minutes. then slowly add in beef broth, and add Flavor Up (if desired). Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes until thickened to your desired consistency.
Finishing the soup:
I cut the top off of my bread, and carved out the inside. I cubed the top portion that was cut off and tossed it in some oil and pepper. I baked this at 400 degrees until the bread was golden brown. Then I shredded a small amount of mozzarella and cheddar cheese. I added some cheese to the bottom of my bread bowl and baked until the cheese was melted. I poured in my soup, topped with some of my crispy bread chunks, and a little more shredded cheese. Broil this for just a minute or two until the cheese is melted.
Enjoy! - Хобби
For those leftover Peppers my husband and I do like an unstuffed pepper casserole. Cooked rice, you could use those burger patties and break them up, tomato sauce, and the peppers. Mix it all together. It's really good. You could use the same ingredients and make it stuffed pepper soup.
I was about to suggest the same thing, I love decon pepper soup but I dont make it real soupy... My D25Ts dont have the pattys anymore, they have 1lb packages of GB for $5!
@@docink6175 I haven't bought ground beef in a while so I don't even know if that's good or bad LOL we use this stuff called quorn it's vegetarian in the frozen section. Or I like ground turkey or chicken.
@@mofo.jones77 I have played around with meat alternatives, mainly soy/tvp along with lentils and legumes but more as a meat stretcher than to really replace meat.. I have several vdo on "me and tvp" where i experiment with dehydrated foods while out in parks etc.. I'll look fpr the quorm, the biggest drawback I see with it is it frozen but maybe it can be dehydrated or freeze dried..
I was coming to say the same thing😂
That was pretty much the same thing I said!!! Sometimes just easier than stuffed peppers 😊
“Oh now it’s doughy on the inside” *pause* “it’s okay”
That was such a cute moment!
Hallelujah!! You are the FIRST person I have seen that shows YOU DON'T NEED A DUTCH OVEN-which is NOT an option for me-to make this bread!! THANK YOU for showing how to do it. I am soo making some now!! ❤❤
I love soda bread. I bake it in a cast iron skillet @ 425 for 35 to 45 minutes or when a skewer comes out clean.
I love Irish soda bread. Something else to try next month.
I buy the DT frozen pepper & onion combo as a staple freezer item all the time, but it never occurred to me to separate the ingredients. What a great idea! The peppers can always be used in other dishes with just some DT minced or powdered onion as a replacement for the frozen.
It was a bit of a process haha and my fingers were frozen by the end but I definitely think it was worth doing for me, it opens up possibilities like this one 😊
@@DollarTreeDinners It was absolutely worth it to this viewer!
Wonder if you threw some of DT dehydrated onions in with the soup to add more onion flavor.
Not something I thought of either. Rebecca is really wise shopper and great cook.
I like to use frozen peppers (with or without onions) in chili. I hand chop or toss them in a blender and pulse a few times to make smaller pieces.
Yes, it's a game changer for chili.
Make a deconstructed "stuffed pepper" bowl: rice, some sort of savory beef with gravy, and peppers.
This sounds very interesting.
I also have 4 or 5 of those pepper and onion mix in my deep freezer. I put the some pepper mix and garlic in my baby processor and since it's blended well i add it to beans ,soup , flavored rice and even potato salad no one ever knows it's in there
I have a sweet and sour meatball recipe that calls for a frozen bag of peppers, so I did the opposite of you and saved all the onions. Now I know what to do with them! So you should try the meatball recipe. It just uses frozen meatballs, frozen peppers, and a simple sweet and sour sauce made from pineapple juice. Tastes great on rice!
My mother in law used to make sweet and sour meatballs. They were so good. She died seven years ago. My husband would enjoy them for dinner. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe.
I have had French onion soup many times out and at home always with a slice of Provolone over the top!
You can use lemon juice instead of vinegar to make the buttermilk if that’s what you have. I also make my soda bread in a cast iron skillet but you can use whatever you have! Soda bread is relatively forgiving ❤️
I just bought those Flavor Ups and then saw this. So exciting.
Now all I want is french onion soup 😮 Yes I buy bags of the frozen mixed peppers and always pick out the onion when I need it 😅 I'm on a budget too. Lol
Recipe suggestions; stir fry and rice or Philly cheese steak with the peppers (I think that might use onions too but still tasty as is). Man that bread bowl looked amazing!
Great idea! Maybe one of my dollar trees will stock steak one day, in the meantime a poor man’s cheese steak with beef would probably be amazing
@@DollarTreeDinners they have sliced steak for $3 at mine
Im amazed at your creativity! You have such excellent ideas!
Oh I LOVE French onion soup. And that's a good idea to use soda bread for a bread bowl, to kind of imitate sourdough. I love to eat soup out bread bowls but it's so tedious making and maintaining sourdough starter! And they're so expensive to buy.
I’ve never made a sour dough because I watched videos and was like nope not for me haha 😂 I’m not very good at maintaining something I have to work on every day 😆😆😆
An omlette was the first thing that came to mind - then you said "besides making an omlette" 😅😂 ...so, a quiche? This is what I get for watching videos before breakfast 😅 I did make a cashew chicken I poured over rice and it was great with some onions and other veggie stir fry in it. 😋 Thanks for all the great ideas!
I’m not able to eat anything today bc of a out patient procedure tomorrow morning. Let me tell you I was about to start licking my phone screen lol. It looked so good. Thank you for posting your videos. It has helped me out more than you will ever know. You are an angel n the best. God bless you. Love from NC
Thank you! Best wishes for your procedure too! 😊
This looked really delicious! I really enjoy your creativity with a limited access of products from Dollar Tree. I think you could make a really tasty roasted pepper soup with the leftover peppers. Thank you!!
They are good sauteed and pureed in homemade tomato soup too.
Love the ideas you give us! Maybe a cornbread muffin ish something with the frozen veg? I would love to try a can of black beans with the veg mix and top with some corn bread 'dumpling dollops' as a meal.
Dumpling dollops would also be a good way to use bread that's a bit doughy on the inside if not making croutons.
I once made a pizza soup out of leftover pizza kit ingredients and extra toppings. I used the crust for dumplings. It was really good!!
This looks amazing!!!!
You can sautee those peppers really lightly, just to get a little aroma to them, and them combine them with canned tomato and pickled jalapeno to make a little quick-and-dirty salsa!
Well done. Thank you. 👍👏
Looks delicious
Yum you did amazing. Keep them coming
I love your creativity 🥰
Looks delicious I love French onion soup
This sounds so good
Really looks yummy. Great idea and presentation.
I love French onion soup. Looked delicious
Great video! I love your creativity and your humble attitude. ❤️
Thank you for sharing
They were at my store and I snatched them up as well! So good. ❤❤
I absolutely love French onion soup- the Gruyère cheese meted over the sides... yum! ❤
Absolutely love the hair this video!!!! This was a well timed video because my hubby and I were talking about making caramelized onions for backpacking. Possibly dehydrating french onion soup. This looks perfect for it👍👍👍👍 would you consider doing more international food recipe ideas with $tree? Loved the bangers and mash video too❤ Also, have you all ever had a booth at Columbus Ohio comic con?
Her hair does look really cute.
I just went to DT today and saw the onion one. Glad you are trying them.
Very nicely done. Had never thought to do something like that. Get my wheels turning.
As soon as I saw these at Dollar Tree, I thought of you! Can't wait to see what else you make! ❤
Make a beef and pepper stir fry over DT rice, or use 2 packages of beef ramen.
Stuffed pepper soup!!😋...yummmmm!!
Now i have to try this
You could do a deconstructed stuffed pepper bake with rice and ground meat added to the peppers
I just bought these!!
Oh my goodness that looks delicious.
I hope that I am able to find some at our $ Tree....
I like that you consider more than just cost. Not everyone has the money, storage and transportation to stock up. I like to consider the quality of food too.
The Dollar Trees in my area (Kingston Ontario Canada) don't have cold items, just things that can be kept on the shelf. Even so, I will check out my location. Between your ideas and their prices (everything is $1.25) I'm sure there are some deals for me. Thank you.
Another great meal and Im going to try it all.Have made onion soup before but never added flour to broth and the bread bowl will be the most fun.TY for sharing.😊
That was impressive.
Been watching the channel for a minute.
Found these and stocked up on them as well.
This was and is a concept I didn't think of.
Thank you for the video and suggestions.
One thing I personally did with this was make a rude casserole with tots, and a sloppy joe type mixture with the sauce and meat I used the whole package of onions and peppers.
Topped with cheese and seasoned to taste.
Was a great quick dinner...
Used with a biscuit top and came out great.
Thank you again for your ideas and inspiration.
So glad you did a video on these! I found these at my local DT just the other day and picked up the mushroom & herb one. Was thinking I could use it to season my rice or polenta with it.
I love french onion soup so I am excited to see this video. I also saw the flavor ups at dollar tree I might give them a shot. Prehaps in a bowl of soup. Also possibly beef fajitas for the left over peppers. Keep the content comin always enjoyable videos.
I deleted tiktok a couple months ago and yours were the only videos I missed. So glad I found your yt channel!
You can make a stuffed pepper bake. I do this with rice and beef and all the normal ingredients for stuffed peppers but in casserole form.
I’m definitely trying that bread! I hope you do more recipes with flour too like tortillas and rolls please 😊
Heck yes!!! Yum!!! 😃
Teriyaki beef and pepper stirfry, or unstuffed pepper casserole.
2 beef patties, the peppers and rice…
One has teriyaki one has pasta sauce and mozzarella cheese. All can be made from dollar tree ingredients
Your soup looked really delicious! You could make an unstuffed pepper soup or casserole. Ty! Love your creativity!
My boyfriend and I saw these at Dollar Tree and wondered if they were any good. That recipe looks delicious!!!
I just happened across your channel. You are very creative with what you have to work with. I'm impressed and I'm 74, Melaney from SoCal. Oh, and I subscribed.
I would make a stuffed pepper soup with your peppers. So good.
I'm a recent subscriber thanks for the great cooking tips
looks good to me ! I love French Onion Soup ~ Now to see if I can find those flavor enhancers at the local Dollar Tree ! thanks for sharing ~ oh and for those peppers how about a Phiily Cheese Steak sandwich or put them in a fajita 😋😋
I wish my DT had frozen peppers and onions, I would buy them by the case! I make a "quick gumbo" aka sausage, peppers, onions, and Cajun seasoning (either as a stir fry, or add broth for a soup, with or without a roux, all over rice).
I do a creamy canjun pasta with smoked sausage and peppers, pasta, cajun seasonings, parm and cream. It's easy, and tastes like something you would get eating out.
Love this!! you should try a Sausage and Peppers pasta bake, so yummy
Pepper steak or quesadillas would be good use for the peppers
My mom used to pressure cook beef then add gravy and peppers and dinner was done in minutes. Then she put it over rice.
Use the left over peppers to make an Unstuffed pepper soup. Peppers, rice, sausage, broth seasoning
You could use the peppers for beef or sausage and pepper sandwiches with cheese kind of like a Philly cheese steak sandwich. You really did an outstanding job on this onion soup! Amazing !!!!! 🥰🌱🌿🌷💐☔💗✝
I love suasage and peppers. Yum.
--- New subscriber here! Your hair & makeup are bee-U-tee-FUL! And, French onion soup...?!? Love love this receipe! On bread bowl, I would make a double portion & bake in deep dish for more ample soup container... And, since I like a little soup with my mozzerella cheeze, I would double that... Good job! Happy trails, Ms. CharLee
How about chicken fajitas w peppers 🫑? I wonder how the laughing cow like cheese from DT would work!? Love this recipe
Gruyere is just aged Swiss Cheese, so that is an easy sub, and you can also use a slice of provolone on top as well. But I would agree, buy cheap “cooking” mushrooms from the grocery store and don’t worry about picking out the peppers, and give more caramelized onion flavor
you could make pepper steak or an omelet with the peppers the soup looked so yummy another great video gonna try making the soda bread
Maybe use for a UNstuffed pepper dish? Casserole or stir fry. (Oh I see it already proposed below. Oh well 😂) Love the soup!
I would like to try the different soups
Fajitas 😊!
Another awesome video, sugarpop! a suggestion for the peppers.. its kind of involved, but can be SOOOOO delicious.. I make what we call chinese junk.. i scramble up a pound of hamburger and drain it, then n a crock pot, I toss in about 1/4 cup of soy sauce, and mix it with a stir fry seasoning packet, and a dash or two of sesame oil, and then mix it all together real good. I would use all the peppers you have left, and add that to the crock and then dump in the meat and give it a good stir then let that cook till the peppers are good and soft, then I add a can of stir fry veg, drained and a can of drained sprouts, and let that all cook together for another hour or so. taste it to see if the flavor is good to you and add more soy if you wish at this time. i serve it over rice and top with the crunchy oriental noodles. SOOOOO DAMN GOOD. im sure you can adapt this for a dollar tree meal in some way shape or form. its really SOO good. we also use uncooked stew beef when we want a longer cook time in the crock - and if you use stew beef and switch out all the veggies and add broccoli instead another awesome asian inspired meal.
Sounds like a great recipe! Reminds me a lot of beef and broccoli but with a variety of vegetables that aren’t just broccoli 🥰
Oh this sounds so good❤
This sounds incredibly like my homemade version of those LaChoy meals 😂 It's definitely more tasty!
I have never seen or heard Campbell's Flavor Ups. They look like they would be tasty.
It looks delicious, all the comments made me hungry lol.i used green peppers in homemade spaghetti sauce although im new to the channel.
I just found your channel And subscribe I'm really enjoying your videos so much fun to watch I have a suggestion for the peppers why don't you make stuffed pepper soup it's really good it also makes for great leftovers❤
You could use the peppers to make sausage peppers and onions. Just get yourself a couple onions and you got all the peppers already… Are you could make a chicken cacciatore with some chicken pieces, tomato sauce again, peppers and onions and say the bread was the winner in that recipe thank you You made making Irish soda bread look pretty easy. I will try that.😊
I bought a bunch of those . they are all good. Just very salty use sparingly!!!!
Stuffed pepper soup would be perfect for the extra peppers. Just some beef broth, tomato sauce, rice, and ground beef. So good.
I’d make a creole style rice. Sauté the peppers in a little oil. And a can of rotel and some cooked rice. Tony’s or any Creole seasoning. I even add shrimp for Shrimp Creole 😊
Peppers could be used with ground beef some onion powder and garlic, sautéed , add soy sauce, serve over rice . Or with a chicken stir fry on rice or mashed potatoes .
Stuffed pepper soup
I love that idea!
Add them to taco spaghetti
I picked these up at my store too, it was a pretty exciting find! You were the first person I thought of when I saw them.. wondering if you’d get them and what you will do with them!
I love little finds like this, for the folks who rely on dollar tree for food these overstock buys can be a real game changer and give them some new ideas and variety
The soup looks so good. I also thought your lentil sausage soup looked good too. On your diabetic meals and I am. Not diabetic just always interested in different meal plans.
Fajitas!!!!
Love it!❤ How about using the peppers for a stuffed (chopped) pepper casserole?
Great idea! Stuffed pepper has come up a lot so I think maybe that could be a way to use the garlic and herb flavor maybe!
Make stuffed pepper soup.I make it with a can of tomatoes, can of tomato soup, rice, peppers ground beef, beef bullion or stock, onions and seasoning.
You could get a couple cans of the pre-cooked chicken sauté your peppers add chicken in use some kind of bullion with it and put it over rice.
Love unstuffed pepper meal or you could do a sausage and peppers dish or a sausage and pepper calzone
Fajitas with the left over peppers!
Leftover peppers with 2 cans drained can chicken, taco seasoning or sauce, pouch of Spanish rice as a fajita bowl or throw in tortillas
What about making unstuffed bell peppers
Chili in a bread bowl would be good. You can use the leftover peppers from the bag.
great 👍 video ❤ just seen your channel we have a channel also you do amazing work with dollar tree products
For bell peppers cook with 4 dollar tree Pattie’s and add garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Then add one can of pasta sauce or plain tomato sauce and let it heat. Serve over rice or pasta
You c I understand use the bell peppers to make fajitas. Chicken fajitas are not very expensive to make
But I think dollar tree has other forms of meat. But fajitas are the way to go.
❤
FOS is one of those foods that I will always order if it's on the menu but never make myself. I wonder if a FOS casserole is feasible, layering toasted bread, soup and cheese. That way you'll always have bread and cheese in every bite.
Julia Childs did something like that on one of her old shows.
