A tip for fried rice is to use day old rice or rice that's been sitting in the fridge so it's more dried out and will fry easier. You freeze large batches of rice, where you individual package them so it will save less time when cooking
A hack I've begun using is putting rice into a muffin pan and freezing them, before long term storage in a freezer bag. Then I can take 1 or 2 rice pucks and reheat them easily.
So glad you did this episode, I love asian food but can't go to the restaraunt as often as I'd like. This give me the idea for a couple of dishes I can fix for just a fraction of the cost.
Making a combo of your recipes for dinner tonight. Made my own crab Rangoon, but your “lo mein” and fried rice with chicken breast (we don’t eat pork and had fresh chicken breast) also grabbed some dumplings and egg rolls. I’ve been looking forward to dinner all day. So has my son. Love your videos!!!
I am going to try the noodle recipe! I am so glad you have this channel. It shows people they can afford food all week from low cost meals. Thank you for sharing!
I've recently made home made egg drop soup. Make a cornstarch slurry to thicken add green onions. It's amazing.. I'm new to your channel and know it's dollar tree items to cook with but I don't want you to miss out on the soup
I love finding "new" videos on your channel!! Okay so I'm new the video isn't but you nailed this. I might have picked up the spring rolls if they were in stock but the wasabi snacks are something I haven't seen before. My ex-husband is Chinese and I STILL can't make egg drop soup, so I think you did a great job. It might not "look" perfect but ingredient wise it's more than fine! And if you were putting together a dinner like this it would be fun to have and hot soup fills people's tummies. I also found one where you spoke to living in an area with limited grocery choices. You are a super hero.
I think your eggs became to fine when you pressed through the strainer... I think some of those connected parts make the egg ribbons, and I normally "pour off a fork" instead of dumping all the eggs in at once.
My husband actually love, love, loves the Stir, stir fry noodles. I've made it once, and I'm going to make it again today for dinner. Thanks for the great ideas and the heads up on dollar tree. We have one just a few blocks away now. And I've been scouting them out for all kinds of ideas thanks to you.😊👍By the way we really love the spicy sausage links. We have converted over from hot dogs to those for our hot dogs and chilly dogs, etc. I'm going to try it with the noodles today.
I’ve eaten Spam all of my life. It’s ham and pork shoulder and nothing weird (what I’ve heard). I’ve never tried any kind but name-brand Spam but I try all other store brand items, so I will try the “luncheon meat.” This meal looks so delicious!
I really want to try the teriyaki noodle recipe for sure! This is such a good time to put out cost effective meal recipes. Love the new channel name as well 😀
You’re so cute! And thank you for doing these videos! I’m so impressed by your inclusion of people with limited means both financially and culinary,.. is that the term? People who don’t have the “average” set up to cook and eat. But lately I think that device is not as great as we think of it being. Your videos are so great. Thank you!
I like spam/luncheon meat. It is so versatile and it used to be very cheap around here (Central and Eastern Europe). We don!t have spam but we have several different brands. Unfortunately these became so expensive...it is literally a theft. Aldi still has a 500g luncheon meat for about two dollars but it is very soft and very very greasy :( My grandma and her peers used to a eat a lot of "spam" back in the communist days. They fried it up or breaded it into flour-egg-breadcrumb style batter and then fried it up. It is tasty and a good protein source :)
@@richardvinsen2385 There's one in Gilroy, CA (or at least there was when I lived there) that carried fresh fruit and veggies. Smaller selection, but they did carry it. I now live in another state that doesn't have any of the wonderful discount grocery stores CA had/has. So it seems it highly depends on where you live.
I grew up in the 70s, and there was no low sodium anything back then, so the flavor is on par with my childhood! We had full strength flavor 😅 Can't wait to try the noodle dish! ❤
I love your channel. Especially during the tough times with prices being crazy out of control at the grocery store. Being creative and making dollar tree meals is really inspiring 👌and you have really good recipes 😋. Some people have negative feelings about dollar tree foods. They need to be open minded. Thanks for your great videos. Sending blessings 🙏 😇 from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Im really enjoying your channel. The best part of this video was the sweet voice and expressions on your face while talking with him. Its so clear how much you adore him ❤
Hi Rebecca and Mike, I know you were working within the parameters of the challenge BUT, whenever I have a soup that's too salty I find a adding unsalted homemade stock of any kind (especially in Chinese cooking) by tablespoons until it's okay, usually fixes the problem. I add a spoon at a time and taste all along til I'm no longer wincing. All the Best Jim Oaxaca
You showed me much cheaper way to make Chinese dishes Thank you very much I look forward to seeing your videos. What date was your last recorded video?😊
8:37 Try using thin spaghetti noodles for $1.25 (in place of the yakasobi noodles) with that seasoning packet+soysauce+brown sugar mixture you made...add a little bit of vinegar to that mixture (instead of water) and then pan-fry with a little bit of the minced garlic. You can add some water if you like...but only enough to soften the thin spaghetti and/or make dish less salty, if necessary. Lastly, add the veges and protein of your choice (maybe top with everything bagel seasoning, crushed peanuts or even dry onion flakes, chives & parsley for presentation since DollarTree do not have scallions) and enjoy! 😊
I've made egg drop soup several times and yes u need a corn starch slurry to thicken it before adding the eggs, also reference the saltiness, you can leave out the soy sauce all together or just add less
Another great cheap meal, not sure if the dollar tree has it but 1 can of beef tips and gravy, 1 packet of brown gravy and cook 1 cup of rice. Cook rice and set aside, add the can of beef tips along with the gravy packet and use half cup extra water than the gravy calls for , heat that in a pot, once its heated add the rice and stir together or put scoop of beef tips and gravy over rice on a plate.
if you need to balance salty flavors, acidity helps neutralize it! I usually use lemon juice if i over-salt something, but you can use tomatoes or vinegar as well! happy cooking!
These all looked phenomenal! 👌 I've tried to make egg drop soup and the same no ribbon thing happened to me - I'm not sure what the trick is. I really appreciate your boyfriend being good sport and trying everything too 👍 The fried rice and teriyaki noodles look awesome. I need to try cooking with spam, I've had it before in ways I like but have never tried it for myself. I live the new name too! ❤
I like you having your boyfriend try the food. That gives us a better, non slightly biased reviews. Based on what he said, and what you said, I would try the noodles
The vibes of the video are the same as the newer ones but also like not? Not in a bad way it's interesting to see your process from before I started following.
I hope one day to find a girlfriend like you omg...The amount of prep and care and love that goes into every dish is incredible. Love it. I'll definitely have to use some of these recipes with my local store
what will make the spam recipe even better add a can of crushed or chunk pineapple with the juice and about a 1/2 tablespoonn of ginger powder..Voila! you have a Hawaiian span and rice bowl. yum, yum❤
@@DollarTreeDinners they are good I eat them all the time and the egg rolls have a small pack of sweet and sour sauce in them. spring rolls don't. Also I use a can of peas and carrots in fried rice if they have it. you can put some pineapple in the fried rice too with the spam it cuts the saltness down.
Twenty years ago you could have had your own cooking show on Food Network. But now you've got one on RUclips, which is much cooler.
The secret ingredient to egg drop soup to get the ribbons is cornstarch slurry used to thicken up the broth before adding the eggs
Thank you!!
I went through a phase this summer where I made this soup once a week. Each time, I got better and better at the ribbons!
Oh thank you!
you don't need it, just swirl the soup so it makes a whirlpool while you pour in the eggs
And to take it off the heat

Looks delicious. When you make egg drop soup, boil the broth, stir to make a whirlpool, then crack the egg into the broth and stir.
Most soups and Chinese restaurants contain cornstarch which helps make it soft float better and you will get ribbons of egg in your egg drop soup

The soup needed corn starch is all :) that’s the secret

Your very creative! Trying the noodles today. :)
Hi! You have to drizzle the eggs in slowly to get them to ribbon. I think the vortex method is more for poaching eggs.
Thank you! Probably not something I’d try again. It wasn’t my favorite dish but a super cheap one with good protein!
Today is the second time. I've made your teriyaki noodles and my husband and I love it.😊
Very inventive.
Love Chinese food yeah
Both dishes looked good. I'll have to try them.

I love the wasabi snap peas I buy them all the time

I like the Parm or Seat salt of those pea things.
I love egg drop soup 🍲 my husband hates it. I love how filling it is ❤😊
If you have a sauce or soup that is too salty just add a few chunks of raw potato and it will absorb the salt.
I love harvest snaps. I think they’re freeze dried?? That’s what gives them that crispy texture
I love the blonde hair!
I feel like the toasted wasabi peas could also make a nice garnish if you crushed them for people who like that texture contrast.

The pea app: I think they are freeze dried. The freeze drying makes the food very light.
Tip for soy sauce and broth when you don't have low sodium; use half of what you need and use water for the other half and mix.
