the amount of salty pianists are driving me crazy
To be fair, it's easy for Piano Gang to say nice, complimentary things because they are at the top of the pile. When you have the best repertoire and an instrument that can play soloist and accompaniment, you don't have the anxiety and need to stake your claim! 🤣
@@paulignacio3720 haven’t seen any salty pianists lmao. We just gave our opinion on why some of us think most of these pieces sounds better with piano alone. There is a reason why the composers chose solo piano.

I don't know if it's just me, but it's funny how I think Eddy's playing is really like out there, his energy goes outwards filling the place. He's like throwing a ball at me and I better catch it because it's coming at me anyway.
Brett on the opposite his energy goes inwards, it pulls you/ invites you in his private space. He's like keeping a secret place, but opens the doors just for the time of the piece.

Honestly, this kind of highlights one of the difficulties of piano that a lot of people take for granted: melody. Learning how to master accentuating the melody, and the other parts, as individual lines and not just chords, takes a lot of understanding of the piece and a lot of good control. And learning how to make them sound good, without having the lines standout like a sore thumb, but sing from out of the harmonies, is even more work. Especially for composers like Beethoven or Rachmaninoff. It’s something that even professional pianists, at least from amateur’s and an avid listener’s perspective, can sometimes struggle with. It’s a lot easier to bring that out with another instrument. But when it’s done well on the piano it’s just…*chefs kiss*
As a piano player, I just couldn’t stop replaying this video! Like, some of which are just extraordinary. Violin can be so expressive!

@@ladym.7594 its pretty hard. The Nocturne has a one line melody which makes it easy to play on the violin, but as soon as we get to more complicated melody's with lots of chords and octaves, yea no chance. Sure u can do it. U can just play the main melody of for example Ballade no. 1, but it will feel less majestic and powerful. There is a reason Chopin wrote those passages in Chords instead of just a 1 line melody

@@bklehano7671 while midi keyboards are more portable, they miss out on a lot of the essentials of an actual piano such as projection and dynamics
Have to disagree on the 1st example. Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 was meant almost as a lullaby. It does sound lovely on a violin. However there is a more gentle and delicate quality that the piano brings to the piece that I think better suits the aim of the composition.
While I do agree there is definitely a "nocturnal" element to the pieces; I don't think they are lullabies. For example Op. 48 No.1 or Op. 55 No. 1 have sections that are way over the top for a lullaby 😁
claire de lune too, i think piano represent the "night" sound very well thanks to its trebly timbre
@@efedaghanbagatur5115 that's true. But I am only referencing the specific Chopin piece chosen for this video...which is very much like a gentle lullaby. The violin sounds nice, but it falters on capturing the mood; especially as the violin hits those high notes. The high notes for this piece, when compared to the piano, can come off as a bit shrill when compared to the more even tone you get from the piano.
@@uhh4312 I think that's true about Claire de Lune as well. The original piano arrangement has a mellow, gentle tone that suits the mellow and gentle composition better than the violin arrangement.
@@jasonquinn4516 Oh if you are refering to this specific piece than I agree as well! I believe you are referring to the "timbre" while talking about the piano being more suited to the setting of the piece. (Which I agree about as well, the violin is better in terms of singing though not really delivering that lullaby feeling because the harmonies are not blending like it does with the piano)
I'm just so happy that you guys are back together with your (and almost like ours) old friends!! Big respects towards Alex, the accompanist (cough cough) I mean collaborative pianist.
AccomPIANIST 👏👏
I love these videos where Brett and Eddy actually perform, and not just play snippets of pieces of music. You can see in their eyes and in their physique just how focused they are, but also how deeply rooted they are in the music and what they're doing. Sure, they're funny guys and all; they're human and they love to laugh and roast things, but at the end of the day they are musicians who LOVE what they're doing and why they're doing it. They aren't playing because they were forced to as kids or because they make lots of money... They're playing because they like it and love it. I especially love watching Eddy's expressions. They absolutely melt my heart!
i totally agree with what you said. i felt the same way listening to them playing these beautiful pieces on their violin.
Can we just appreciate the talent instead of arguing about how piano sounds so much better. We all know people have their own biases. But they’re creating content for us and it’s good content so why can’t we enjoy it?
No, I mean I enjoy the content but dude, you can't desagree that some of the songs played here sound quite better on the piano

I think for Clair de Lune, the violin is a great accompany instrument because it adds fluidity to the sound. However, the piano by itself is still the best way to hear/play this piece, because it is such a more peaceful sound. (The violin can be calm, but will always have that passionate undertone ;) )

I'm going through a slump and listening to you guys play made me emotional. I wish I can be passionate about something, too. Thank you for the wonderful music, TwoSet.
While I did enjoy this, I think the flexibility a single pianist has to play with time and dynamics would take a very solid duo and a lot of practice to replicate. Although the counter argument is that now it’s a duet and shouldn’t be judged against the original! Either way, great content.
I can’t explain how Rêverie makes me feel.. either in both piano and violin, is amazing ✨😭🤍
debussy is amazing
Probably daydreamy :)
in my personal unbiased opinion, and this is only a subjective view on this, debussy’s pieces sound better on the piano than the violin 🤭 there’s something about the softness of the sounds the piano makes that is needed in clair de lune and rêverie that simply cannot be replicated on string instruments! the violin, however, does express the rushing and skippy nature of the piano sonata and the wedding day at troldhaugen quite well
i agree because debussy is literally just for the piano LOL
it sounds kinda like rusty and “unbalanced” on the violin, if that makes sense???
as a pianist, I couldn't agree more. i think it's how Debussy's pieces almost blend the left hand accompaniment and the melody together, and you can do that with enough skill on the piano, but it's just so hard to blend the crisper violin sound with the softer accompaniment. like you can't make it sound as if both parts are equally as important, but you could with the piano. i genuinely can't figure out how to describe what i wanna say but ye
Agreed. I think it’s because the two timbres don’t blend, weave and merge together like the original piano compositions.
I agree with you 100% . Thing is, for this softness and blended sound, piano is not the best in my humble opinion. Classical guitar is. When I listen to Roxanne Efasci play Clair De Lune or Rêverie, I feel like the piece has finally found it’s soulmate instrument. Classical guitar is so underrated and fits those pieces soooo well
@@joshjams1978 I've been thinking about how Clair de Lune sounds on the guitar!! I loveeeee Clair de Lune so much & I pay the guitar, so why not both 😂 Definitely gonna listen to Roxanne Efasci's arrangement!

Can't imagine violinist playing winter wind, how cool will it be
Now I want to hear that
I don't think it will catch the same clarity as piano can. That is my only problem with ravel's orchestration of pictures at an exhibition, in the second movement (gnomus or something like that), the strings section just cannot match the clarity and speed of a piano there. I think the same will happen with other fast piano pieces because violin is limited by it's 4 strings and having to shift between positions, while pianists have a lot more notes within close reach (logically the piano is better for piano pieces lol)

And Liszt and Rachmaninoff already transcriped so many 😅
@@abrakadaniel5908Piano gang has started doing so from so long ago that this should be a big series
Oof
With respect, I disagree. Some of these are fine on violin, but I feel Chopin and Debussy especially lose their clarity and poignancy when played on violin. There's a certain stark beauty to Debussy's work that is lost when played by more than one instrument, and a violin can only play half the piece.
Agreed - the only one I thought genuinely improved was Wedding Day.
I like to play the nocturne on the guitar, it still keeps the warming calmness to it, but the violin is just to intense of an instrument to make it work.
The 'silence' after the key is struck is part of the effect in Debussy's piece. The violin can't replicate that minimalist effect and actually spoils the sense of wonder.
I do agree ! But i heard the Chopin one with violin with an another person playing and i found that it was really a great interpretation. Maybe it's just this one that souds strange ? I don't know
Wow you guys are way too picky/salty... you don't have to take the title literally. It's actually a kind tribute to piano and piano composers (they used to play piano and obviously chose pieces they like for this video).
How would you react if someone was gate keeping a melody written for another instrument under a piano cover? "You shouldn't play that on a piano, it was written for another instrument and playing it on a piano doesn't improve the piece". That's literally how this comment thread comes out :/
Wedding-day at Troldhaugen, along with almost all of Grieg's pieces nearby this collection the piece ended up in, are actually deeply inspired by (or almost literally are) folk-tunes intended to be played on the double-stringed hardingfele. So they are all suited for violin, even though the sheet music will sort of mirror a "polite, quiet rich man's party with music in the background".
So, good call on the bow-pressure, Eddy :D That was really neat.

Well, well, well.... how the turn tables
@@Isabella-vg5ro Well, well, well.... how the turns have tabled
Well, piano concertos are technically works for piano and accompaniment (orchestra)
I feel like eddy wore his Debussy jumper solely because he wanted to play Clair de Lune
Not sure if I agree. Clair de Lune is falling apart a bit soundwise, it's more cohesive in the original piano version in my opinion.
I'll make the playlist of the original pieces, so that you can easily listen back to back.
Violin cannot produce that dreamy voice. Debussy chose it to be a piano solo for a reason
Listen to Ray Chen's or David Oistrakh's rendition of it
When I hear it on the piano, I hear water drops in the moonlight. That's what represent the "clair de lune" imo. Violin is beautiful, but here the piano is much more literal and "pictured" than the violin
Agree, and put the Beethoven along with it. Something about the piano striking the notes, letting them ring out, hanging there before moving on, that a bow sustaining cannot match.
@@sculean I love Yu Chien Tseng's version too 😍 ruclips.net/video/tA-SRg_1J7s/видео.html

7:09 E Debussy - Clair de Lune
The funny part is that you still need a collaborative piano to play them, while pianist arrange violin pieces for solo piano and make them even cooler (like Bach’s chaconne) 😅
Your pfp! I cry for laughing
Sorry man, say whatever you want But Don’t even try to say that the chaconne sounds better on the piano. When you think of the chaconne you think about the violin and viceversa
@@Luca-ep2yd chaconne sounds better on the guitar actually
@@Luca-ep2yd If you listen to it objectively you’ll agree with me, you see in this video they represented the nocturne in c sharp minor by Chopin (which is literally THE most piano thing ever) as it sounds better with the violin, and I don’t actually disagree with that, the same thing with the Bach/Busoni chaaconne
@@salaha.b2438 Guitar gang!
Alex looks so good!
Just when I was thinking schubert piano sonata no. 16 should've been on the violin, RUclips recommended this video.
All the love to the great music
i never really thought of the violin much before, so i just wanted to say i'm grateful to twosetviolin because this channel is the reason i now have a new-found appreciation on how beautiful of an instrument the violin is (and just classical music in general!) so yeah thank u brett and eddy !! u guys r cool : DD
Twoset: These pieces deserve to be on the violin!
Also Twoset: Plays with accompaniment
They should have the balls to play the Ernst erlkönig transcription then hahah
If I didn’t know Chopin’s Nocturne in Eb was a piano piece, I would have legit thought that was how it was written.
Chopin nocturne is all written for solo piano!
I know. I was saying that TwoSet’s transformation of it sounded so good that if I didn’t already know it was a piano piece, I would have thought their rendition of it was legit.
@@fantasmagoria9570 What? Not at all. I’ve studied Chopin and his nocturnes are Inspired by John Field and simply the timbre of the night. There is a reason why these greats chose piano solo, they sound much better with solo piano. Rather arrogant to assume that they didn’t consider different instruments.
They sound so nice! Wish those piano composers compose some violin music
Rachmaninov Cello Sonata is amazing! Perfect combination

feel so sorry for Alex (Pianist) playing with only one hand. He could bring the piece of music blossom to this fullest color.
I def agree on the first one. I always felt that reverie could be played on the violin to too or gymnopide no.1
