Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). You noticed something right away that's very significant to why I love BAND-MAID so much: They're having fun. From watching their concert videos and their casual moments out and about while not playing, it's obvious that they love what they're doing, and they each care about and support the others. It's the kind of chemistry that makes everything a bit more magical for the rest of us.

I agree. The quick changes between toms and snare never cease to amaze me, while her feet lay down a perfect base rhythm. She's really a fun drummer to listen to. Her skill is beyond belief.
My favorite part of this song might actually be after the duel, and after Kanami’s solo. It’s when starts riffing again along with the vocals. It’s so cool, and it’s SO Kanami.

Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). Miku wasn't able to play the guitar when she founded the bandin 2013. I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. You just listened to the greatest rock band on earth! And that includes past, present and foreseeable future! I saw Van Halen, Rush and was in grade school when Jimi Hendrix come on the scene. Great job catching the comparison between the bass vs. guitar duel here and those from back in the day for Mr. Big, who I saw open for Rush once. I often compare Band-Maid to both bands and many others. They are so diverse in their musical production that they beg comparisons to a LOT of bands. My Chemical Romance and Guns and Roses (who they once opened for in Japan) are other bands you'll hear when you listen, as just a couple of many possible examples. Not that they're derivative of these bands, as, taking from so many sources, the results are unique, yet simultaneously familiar.
The more you listen to Band-Maid, the more you realize that are not just good but fantastic. Thsi official live video was shot during their 10th Anniversary Tour finale at the Yokohama Arena in November 2023. There are a few officlal live videos from the concert that are worth viewing and reacting to. If you are a drummer at heart, you need to react to "Freedom", the officlal live video on their channel. It features a "drum" interlude from Akane, their drummer. Akane impressed Jimmy Page so much at an awards show they played on, that he asked to go backstage and meet her. Akane thought she was being pranked until showed up to meet and praise her. There is a photo on the internet of that occasion. It's stated that he compared her favorably to John Bonham. What a compliment for a drummer. I personally think that Akane and MISA, their bassist are the most intuitively brilliant "rhythm section" in rock and foll. Also, another shoutout to Roger Chance for introducing another RUclips reactor to the best damned rock band in the world today. He's a man on a mission!!!!!

"Why have I never heard them before?" is what I was asking myself 3 years ago and I jumped down the pigeon hole. Band-Maid is primarily a '90s vibe rock band that incorporates pop, punk, prog, metal, rap, jazz, folk-metal, and whatever is on their radar into their unique genre of rock. They can go heavy, they can go light, they write love songs, hate songs, break-up songs, anime themes, fight songs, songs of encouragement,... Every member of Band-Maid is a star in their own right. In a typical Band-Maid song you'll notice Akane Hirose's drums immediately, then Misa's groovy bass line and Kaname Tono's cool guitar riffs, and when Saiki starts belting out the vocals you'll notice Miku Kobato's backing vocal and rhythm guitar. They all work together seamlessly to present the song.
This video is worth a listen on good quality headphones. Band-Maid consistently pans each member in the mix. Akane is always center, Saiki is center right, Miku center left, Misa is to the Left and Kanami is to the right, or something generally close to this. When separation is good (and on 'HATE?' it's good) you can always tell whether it's Kanami or Miku playing guitar. So give 'HATE?' a good listen when Saiki drops out for the bass - guitar duel. Note that Akane never entirely drops out. Misa drops out for Kanami's part of the duel and vice versa. Note that when Misa starts her 'solo', Miku doesn't drop out until the second half, which adds to the drama of Misa's bass line. Everyone in the band gets a spotlight during the instrumental section, except for Miku, even though she's intermittently playing backup to both Kanami and Misa throughout. Miku is the ultimate team player on 'HATE?' - these ladies play well together.

I'm also like you, I tend to listen to the older stuff and don't give much for today's radio music... From my own experience; you will love this band, because it's this band that has given me back my faith in finding new good music. BM has become one of the bands I listen to every day, like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. What is infectious about BM - apart from the fact that they are amazing songwriters - is the joy they have and the love they have for what they do. Something you never see in modern music, where everything has to be half-naked and fake to sell. Enjoy this journey with BM! Yes, MISA (bass) and Kanami (lead guitar) remind me too of Billy Sheen and Paul Gilbert - and Kanami does a good Steve Vai impression too on their instrumental ONSET! Recommendations would have to include their 10 year, 120+ song back catalogue, the live versions of them, their acoustic set...and anything else you can find! They don't make a bad song, just great to incredible. PS Try watching HATE? again with the subtitles on - it's funny and is the only song written by Saiki, the lead singer.

Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). Miku wasn't able to play the guitar when she founded the bandin 2013.
I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. So, this is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special live videos try Freedom, Play, Real existence and Endless Story. With Moratorium (Live at Zepp), Rinne (MV) and Dice you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are Choose me (MV), Bestie (MV) and Alone (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe About Us (MV) and Daydreaming (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like From now on (MV) and Onset (Live). Great job catching the comparison between the bass vs. guitar duel here and those from back in the day for Mr. Big, who I saw open for Rush once. I often compare Band-Maid to both bands and many others. They are so diverse in their musical production that they beg comparisons to a LOT of bands. My Chemical Romance and Guns and Roses (who they once opened for in Japan) are other bands you'll hear when you listen, as just a couple of many possible examples. Not that they're derivative of these bands, as, taking from so many sources, the results are unique, yet simultaneously familiar.
The more you listen to Band-Maid, the more you realize that are not just good but fantastic. Thsi official live video was shot during their 10th Anniversary Tour finale at the Yokohama Arena in November 2023. There are a few officlal live videos from the concert that are worth viewing and reacting to. If you are a drummer at heart, you need to react to "Freedom", the officlal live video on their channel. It features a "drum" interlude from Akane, their drummer. Akane impressed Jimmy Page so much at an awards show they played on, that he asked to go backstage and meet her. Akane thought she was being pranked until showed up to meet and praise her. There is a photo on the internet of that occasion. It's stated that he compared her favorably to John Bonham. What a compliment for a drummer. I personally think that Akane and MISA, their bassist are the most intuitively brilliant "rhythm section" in rock and foll.
Also, another shoutout to Roger Chance for introducing another RUclips reactor to the best damned rock band in the world today. He's a man on a mission!!!!!

"Why have I never heard them before?" is what I was asking myself 3 years ago and I jumped down the pigeon hole. Band-Maid is primarily a '90s vibe rock band that incorporates pop, punk, prog, metal, rap, jazz, folk-metal, and whatever is on their radar into their unique genre of rock. They can go heavy, they can go light, they write love songs, hate songs, break-up songs, anime themes, fight songs, songs of encouragement,...
Every member of Band-Maid is a star in their own right. In a typical Band-Maid song you'll notice Akane Hirose's drums immediately, then Misa's groovy bass line and Kaname Tono's cool guitar riffs, and when Saiki starts belting out the vocals you'll notice Miku Kobato's backing vocal and rhythm guitar. They all work together seamlessly to present the song.
I do hear lots of influences coming out from their songs and playing.

This video is worth a listen on good quality headphones. Band-Maid consistently pans each member in the mix. Akane is always center, Saiki is center right, Miku center left, Misa is to the Left and Kanami is to the right, or something generally close to this. When separation is good (and on 'HATE?' it's good) you can always tell whether it's Kanami or Miku playing guitar. So give 'HATE?' a good listen when Saiki drops out for the bass - guitar duel. Note that Akane never entirely drops out. Misa drops out for Kanami's part of the duel and vice versa. Note that when Misa starts her 'solo', Miku doesn't drop out until the second half, which adds to the drama of Misa's bass line. Everyone in the band gets a spotlight during the instrumental section, except for Miku, even though she's intermittently playing backup to both Kanami and Misa throughout. Miku is the ultimate team player on 'HATE?' - these ladies play well together.

I'm also like you, I tend to listen to the older stuff and don't give much for today's radio music... From my own experience; you will love this band, because it's this band that has given me back my faith in finding new good music. BM has become one of the bands I listen to every day, like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. What is infectious about BM - apart from the fact that they are amazing songwriters - is the joy they have and the love they have for what they do. Something you never see in modern music, where everything has to be half-naked and fake to sell.
Enjoy this journey with BM! One promise is that you will be surprised by every song you hear and see from them - and you can't believe they surprise you again, with every new song. That is how good BAND-MAID is!

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. Yes, MISA (bass) and Kanami (lead guitar) remind me too of Billy Sheen and Paul Gilbert - and Kanami does a good Steve Vai impression too on their instrumental ONSET! Recommendations would have to include their 10 year, 120+ song back catalogue, the live versions of them, their acoustic set...and anything else you can find! They don't make a bad song, just great to incredible. PS Try watching HATE? again with the subtitles on - it's funny and is the only song written by Saiki, the lead singer.

Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Yoyoka Soma - does drum covers of classic rock on youtube. Records with the Ken Okada jazz group. Endorsed by Ludwig, Zildjian, Vic Firth. Named one of the Top 500 Drummers of all time on the Drummers World website. Too many accolades to mention here. Oh yeah she's 14!!! @@genxreax Nice! Thanks! Shit, I’ll type in English so others can read it also. Hmmm, Band-Maid has been my fave band since discovering them in 2022. Seen them 3x now. You won’t regret getting into them. Try Warning! music video or the 2-for-1 LIVE video of Manners/Black Hole. That one was filmed live but no audience as it was during the quarantine.
Oh! I forgot to mention. Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist says “po” all the time. I still get thrown off! It’s a pigeon sound not the Filipino thing. 😂 So a lot of fans says Po also but not to honor elders. lol
