As someone who worked on pimp my ride for two seasons, I can confirm that this is hilariously accurate! Inaccuracies: 1) the crew made the driver do retake after retake to pretend they were thrilled, 2) the background is from the later days at Galpin auto sports, 3) Xzibit truly had no part in making the cars. He was an actor/host hired just for the introduction and the reveal.
I feel like I had to regrow part of my soul after I left that show.
If you do want to watch reality tv, please be aware that on most shows, very little of it actually qualifies as "reality". Not to mention that many of these shows aren't great for society, sometimes hurt the people in front of the camera, and imo aren't even healthy for the people working on them (tho of course others will feel differently)
But then this sketch existing, maybe, just maybe, gives you a little piece of your soul back. That's gotta count for something.

@@igorschmidlapp6987 I watched the first season of Survivor (2000) like the dumbass 16 year old I was. I'd never seen any reality shows besides COPS and thought it was all legit.
Then my family got cable and... oh. Oh no. The poor TLC channel. Also, poor MTV. We got cable just in time to watch it devolve from music to teen reality drama.
Exactly how “Pimp My Ride” was, they hyperfocused on one thing about a person, and made the ENTIRE car about the one thing 😂😂 “For what purpose?!” 😂😂
It was all scripted.. the whole show was made with paid actors , every single one on the show was a paid actor ✌🏼
And just to head it off, there were even rumors about some of the vehicles literally not being street legal and/or nonfunctional. But, at least when I check a few years ago when I first heard this, there wasn't much/any evidence for that.
@@ichijofestival2576 actually that’s true. There was one where they literally chopped a car in two to add a mid section to give the car a “stretch”. Completely unsafe and not at all street legal. was done only for the show. Owner was “supposedly” compensated for destroying their car. Also any vehicle that had screens in the front seat for video games, live tv, etc had them taken out before delivery as it was illegal. Same with any vehicle that included an alcohol bar. That was done for the show but removed shortly after. Additionally many people said their cars were essentially destroyed because they would add all this extra weight but did absolutely nothing for the suspension. The car was then undriveable.
Well, some of them were functional. The one with the fish tank got sold by the owner, and I know this because I served that car in a Jack In The Box thru

I was about to post the same comment. 3 separate sketches made that exact joke. It wasn’t really funny to begin with (self deprecation is always better), but no joke continues to be funny for 3 sketches.
Yeah he can clearly handle more character based work so I was a lil disappointed that they made the same joke over and over lol

I agree-didn’t think the guest host was as good as most, two of the skits overlies in knowing what they are parodying or referring to, unlike this one, and the addiction skit was just inappropriate.
Because these are trash and SNL is finally realizing it!

The DVD mirror player was classic Pimp MY Ride Stupidity at its finest. I remember then installing a TV where the spare tire went cause the guy was studying to be a mechanic lol

Looking back, the PMR show was so awesome yet so stupid at the same time -- And so perfect for the era of extreme over-accessorizing of vehicles. After the final reveals, I always remember simultaneously saying "WOW how did they do that?" & "WTF were they thinking?" LMFAO

I like how John and Ben had nicknames but Martin's just said "Martin Herlihy, NYU Tisch Class of 2019" 😂I love all the subtle jokes PDD sneaks into their sketches.
I liked their movie. My taste is kind of everywhere and I like the group. They are very witty.

Pretty much aligns with the show. They forgot to include the fake house and the fake background story that doesn’t add anything.
Also, they should have shown the car before the pimping with a bunch of garbage that they put in it to make the car and person look much worse.

I saw this posted up and was wondering how did I miss it in the episode?? Yeah this episode was definitely "meh", they definitely should have kept this skit in.
Based on previous instances, I get the feeling "cut for time" has to do with whether they need an audience or can just prerecord it. There are probably other factors as well. At the very least, I'm comfortable saying "Cut for Time" doesn't mean "dud."

I have to say, the show has been not that great lately. I was especially surprised how weak the last weekend update and Johnson's Trump were. Those are usually the highlights for me. Writing just seems week lately.

I rather have not seen another hot guy sketch. They pretty much took up the entire episode. And only half of them stuck their landing. I get it, Jacob is hot as heck; but don’t make that the punchline for 3/4’s of the show’s sketches. And as much as I loved Rachel McAdams’ cameo in the last sketch of the night, I rather had seen this at the end of the episode instead of the Acting Class sketch.

OMG this skit perfectly captures the sheer awesomeness along with the utter ridiculousness of the "Pimp My RIde" show & how they would hone in on one or two things about the person & go totally overboard with it, when all the person really needed was a good running car to get around in -- You would watch an episode of PMR & simultaneously be saying "Wow that's badass, that's rad!!!' while thinking "So stoopid, I would never drive that sh*t!" Sergei sums it all up with his "What have you done?" & "For what purpose? LMFAO
@MrGriff305 LMFAO funny....Ummm I'm no kid, not new to this -- I am a MAJOR car buff & I was a HUGE fan of Pimp My Ride & similar shows of the time, so that's gives me the right & knowledge to speak on it. YES the actual PMR show did make SOME people happy -- however it also did get absurd at some points. Yes the actual cars ran, but going back & watching some of the things they rigged up is kinda funny now....And that's why this skit captures it perfectly

Seems to me that you are the one who is impressionable if you actually believe that all the cars ran like new & that everyone was happy with the final result...At the end of the day, it's a reality show, contrived to elicit reactions from we the audience.. Don't get me wrong: as I previously stated, I was a HUGE fan of PMR, Trick My Truck, Overhaulin', Fast & Loud, & the dozen or so other similar shows. Maybe that's why I can see the absurd humor in this sketch while you seem offended by it
@@TarantulisimoI got my wife on the show and we still have her car. She got a 200hp turboed engine swapped in. Many had nothing done engine wise. As a car guy, in California they are smog nazis, so newer than 75 got squat. Possibly not even touched. But some of us were very happy, some were not. But the show was epic. I'm making a follow up series.

Pimp my Ride would always add something gaudy and unnecessary but leave the car undrivable. I also heard if the reveal didn't get a great reaction, one of the WCC guys would put his arm around you , take you to the side, and "politely" tell you to give a better one.

For those who don't know, Xzibit was the host of the MTV "Pimp My Ride" show and had no idea at the time that the cars those people were putting together were barely drivable hacked-together monstrosities that usually caused the "winners" more headaches with their vehicles than they had before the show. He apparently has long felt terrible about all of that.

As someone who has lived/breathed car media since I was a kid I can't tell you how accurate this is.
I love that it turns into an older model of the Sienna.
Anyone else remember the waterfall armrest episode. How ridiculous!!! They also wouldn’t fix the engines. The car would be just as un-drivable as before if not worse.
