  • Hey there space cats! Today's Video is not owned by me. This is a launch video spotlighting Sega's final system The Dreamcast . It was shown on tv way back in 1999 to show off the games and hardware and how sega is ready for a big comeback! This is very nostalgic to me as I saw it when I was a kid. I remember being so excited for this system and it did not disappoint! Sega truly gave it there all and it is still considered one of the best game systems ever made (I agree) In-fact indie developers still make games for it and have several new titles coming this year. I just wanted to share this with all of my subscriber and fans out there. I do not own this content.

      Absolutely! Although, i'll gladly take 87-95 with the NES, SNES, GEN, GB, TGFX & Arcade games...After that it's definitely Saturn, PS1, N64 & Dreamcast! The Dreamcast was the final console of the 90's and the last console i was ever truly excited about. Such a unique awesome looking console, including it's controller with the pastal colored buttons & VMU. Truly ahead of it's time with one of the greatest launches in video game history. I remember the PS2 launch by comparison being a massive disappointment. Regurgitated controller, ugly console design, stale line up of dreary colored 30fps launch titles. I hated that system. :P

    I am reading a lot of comments stating that the quote about piracy was wrong. The statement was regarding the actual GD rom format which, as of writing this comment, has not actually been hacked. The main method of piracy was done by exploiting a hard coded integration of karaoke discs. While it is unbelievably easy to pirate for the Dreamcast, it is not due to the disc format. However, the one thing you can blame on the disc format for was the Dreamcast's failure.

    Dreamcast is still a great console, almost 21 years after it released. Next to my 3ds, this is my favorite console and I love collecting for the system. There are so many good games on the system, especially third party games. I prefer playing Resident Evil 2, 3, Code Veronica and Dino Crisis on my Dreamcast.
    And don’t get me started on all the first party games. The high quality and amazing games released exclusively (at the time) for the Sega Dreamcast. Arcade experiences, JRPG experiences, adventures games, sport titles, it was a beast when it came down to games. I loved Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK, Sonic Adventures 1/2, Jet Grind Radio, EGG, Skies of Arcadia, Sega Rally, Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi and so much more.

      If only there was a way to re-experience them through HDMI while 1080p - 4K on my 65" QD-OLED S90D TV. Going back to a 32" CRT like it's 1999 all over again wouldn't pack anywhere near the same punch.

      Just so you know they are still making games for the system! There are 6 games coming this year. Pier solar came out for the ps4, wii u,xbox one and Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was the only one to get a physical copy. Also other indie games and shoot um ups. If you get one not only will you still get new games but they now have an sd card for the Dreamcast that you can play all the roms on if you cant afford all the games.

      I just bought my third console, but this one will have the full overhaul.
      The GD reader will become parts for the other two, already have the VGA circuit soldered together, have a Micro SD USB reader on standby, and just need a proper VGA screen that can fit inside the lid.
      Not as compact as Ben Heck's design, but it'll still be using the original console frame.

    If sega would have had more money to put a DVD player in the dreamcast sega would still be around today most likely. A lot of people who didn't even play games only bought a ps2 because it was the cheapest DVD player on the market. That could have been the dreamcast and all that hardware sales would have kept them alive as a console manufacturer

      Gamecade some of it also that Sega of America and Japan never seen eye to eye if you know the history. Sony just capitalised on Sega mistakes and learned a lot from Sega when helping make games for the Sega CD. Sony even wanted to join Sega and help make hardware back when the Saturn launched. They didn't only go to Nintendo. Sega of America was good with it and Japan said no. Just think we could have been playing the Sega PlayStation.

      Sony only had a Partnership with SOA in 1992 regarding Sega CD, but it was ILLEGAL and ILLEGITIMATE. So much, that JVC took Sony to court in 1993 and sued them over OEM infringement.

      Armada Gaming That would’ve been a terrible idea since that would’ve meant those that bought a Saturn would’ve felt cheated that their system was obsolete in less than 2 years and really make Sega look like it had no idea what it was doing in the console market.

      Dreamcast tech would have been way too expensive around 96 or 97. If anything, they launched too soon. Should have waited for the PS2, surpassed the tech and had the online ready to go which STILL would have been ahead of Sony or anyone else. Also a better controller with dual sticks. That would have given them the best chance IMO...but I think no matter what they were doomed trying to compete with three corporations with much deeper pockets.
      Even Nintendo has had a tough time against Sony and MS which is why they ended up going in crazy different directions (which works out sometimes, sometimes not). There's no way SEGA could have kept going.

    It's interesting to look at the sales of the Dreamcast, you find that it actually did not fail in terms of sales. The problem was the SOJ forced SOA to launch the 32x and then the Saturn early. Then the famous e3 97 comment sealed the Saturn's death, this caused Sega to be in the red by the summer of 97 and made them not have a console for most of 97, 98 and 99 so they had no source of income not to mention the arcade business dying. The Dreamcast did fine in sales but the burden of past mistakes was too much. I did a big topic on it on Dreamcast-Talk and condensed it into a video

    • @fukuharasan
      @fukuharasan 6 лет назад +1

      True spoken - the Dreamcast was very successfull, especialy at it's start where it was the fastest selling console on a system launch to that point. However unlike other console launches, it had to make profit from day one, and thats a huge burden!

    • @segaunited3855
      @segaunited3855 6 лет назад +2

      Not Quite sir. Here's The TRUTH to what actually happened:
      In December 1999, after facing tremendous pressure from Sega's Parent Company CSK, Nakayama agreed to step down as President and CEO of Sega despite the successful International Rollout of Dreamcast. Nakayama stepping down under pressure sealed Sega's fate at the time. You see, CSK had been actively swindling SEGA, they had cheated Sega out of $2 billion with poor investments like GameWorks, misused Sega's funds, and abused Chairboard authority.
      CSK's Owner Isao Okawa took over as Sega's CEO in 2000. The instant he did, he immediately ordered Sega to dissolve ALL of its gaming divisions. The name change from Sega Enterprises,Ltd to Sega Corporation,Inc he orchestrated was so that Sega could become like NEC and abandon video gaming altogether.
      Okawa hated Video Games. He didn't even allow CSK to fund Dreamcast outside of Japan. Nakayama and Sega had to raise Venture Capital from other investors to get Dreamcast funded for International release. Okawa was also an extreme Bigot and Xenophobe, who DESPISED Tom Kalinske with a fiery passion.
      Sega wasn't broke, their Parent Company didn't want to fund them anymore unless they stopped making video games. CSK had owned 100% of Sega since 1983. With Nakayama no longer at Sega in 2000, Okawa was now in power to do whatever he wanted, Sega was now at his mercy.
      SEGA did NOT want to leave. Okawa FORCED them at gunpoint and BLACKMAILED other divisions, threatening to shut down Sega of Europe if they didn't comply with his orders and intimidated Peter Moore with ludicrous investor demands "You better outsell PS2 at least Once in a NPD, if you can't, we'll pull the plug".
      SEGA basically quit consoles because a new CEO took over who wanted them to abandon video gaming altogether. Said CEO was also the Owner of the Parent Company, and thus had full power and control.
      Plenty of Corporate sponsors like Microsoft and Toshiba wanted to keep the console going, Toshiba even wanted to buy 80% Stake in Sega.
      SEGA was screwed over and ruined by their then Parent Company in the 90s.
      And no, SOJ did NOT force SOA to rush out the Saturn. That's not factual.

    • @fukuharasan
      @fukuharasan 6 лет назад

      Even if all of that is true (wich I can't neither decline or confirm, my knowlege doesn't reach that far), a long - term successfull Dreamcast could have forced Okawa most likely to stick with the buisness, as money is more convincing on the lomg run than personal ideals. Look at Sony, in the initial days, Ken Kutaragi had basicly to cheat to produce the SNES's soundchip - and now playstation and videogames are most likely the only thing that keeps hem afloat. People can be convinced, but you need really strong arguments - and sometimes the right decisions in the right time. A more straightforward structure at Sega would have helped, but it aways felt like there are two Segas, always not quite shure what to think of the other one....

    • @segaunited3855
      @segaunited3855 6 лет назад +1

      Okawa was the Owner of Sega's Parent Company CSK Holdings from 1983 to 2002, he wasn't interested in saving Sega, he was only interested in lining his pockets to dissolve SEGA as a Gaming Brand and HIMSELF. He wanted Sega to become like NEC, and abused Chairman authority over and over again. Hayao Nakayama and Co-Founder David Rosen were the ones actually in charge at SEGA and were President & CEO and COO respectively.
      Okawa and CSK were driving Sega down into RED and debt. By 2003, SEGA had a climbing $3.1 billion deficit that came from liquidating Dreamcast. SEGA had to escape CSK or else they would be driven out of business had they remained. So Sega found Sammy Corporation and Haijime Satomi. From 2003-2010, Sammy owned half of Sega, and allowed Sega to maintain half of itself until August 26,2010, when Satomi sold off Sammy Corporation and all of its properties,divisions,stocks,bonds,expenditures,assets to Kabushiki Kaisha Sega. Meaning, Sammy is currently a Wholly Owned Subsidiarity of SEGA Holdings,Co,Ltd.
      Okawa and CSK should have been removed from Parent Ownership in '94 by David Rosen and Hayao Nakayama, as Pioneer Corporation at the time had extreme interest in buying 90% stake of SEGA Enterprises.
      Bottom line, CSK and Okawa should have been long gone from Sega's grip by 1995. None of this would have happened had Pioneer become their New Parent Company.
      Regarding Sony, they weaseled their way into the gaming business, first by Cheating Nintendo out of its CD add on deal for Super Famicom by creating a Clause that would have given them 80% control of the add on AND the rights to use Nintendo's IPs, second by trying to steal blueprints and information on Sega's Next Gen Project in 1991 by pretending to be an OEM prospect with SOJ only for SOJ to REJECT them and throw them out of their offices.
      And then, by deceiving,manipulating and LYING to Sega of America by ILLEGALLY manufacturing Sega CD, and conned them successfully into allowing them access to ALL top secret information on the 32-bit Cartridge Model 1 Based JUPITER Console. Which became the PSX.

    It's funny how in 1999 the world Already knew that Nintendo was gonna be releasing a brand new 6th console to compete with the Dreamcast and PS2 but they called it the 🐬 Dolphin. I never knew the original codename for the GameCube was the Dolphin. The Nintendo Dolphin. Horrible name. She said can the Dreamcast compete with Sony and Nintendo. Nope. In September of 1999 when the Dreamcast was launched nobody ever would've thought that Microsoft would make their own home console. They had a hand in the Dreamcast creation. The Dreamcast was actually compatible with an optimized version of Windows CE it even says it on the front of the Dreamcast. Trip. Microsoft used their learned knowledge from Dreamcast to create the Xbox. So in a way the death of the Dreamcast spawned the birth of the Xbox. Still when Dreamcast was launched nobody knew what the PS2 was gonna be or how powerful a console it was going to be. Nobody knew that PS2 was gonna blow Dreamcast out of the water a year before Nintendo released it's next gen console the GameCube and and by that time the Dreamcast was dead and Microsoft released the Xbox. Sega was in the works even after the Dreamcast was discontinued to have the Xbox run Dreamcast games natively on Sega's GD-ROMs but there were disputes between Sega and Microsoft over online support for Dreamcast games and the deal never happened.
