This song is one that really shows the best of Molly's vocal talents.i hope more people find this high quality recording.the whole band is dead on here.
Absolutely. Molly is tremendous in this song. Her guitar playing is what originally drew me to the Tuttles. But she's really developed as a vocalist. I love her music.
It's really gratifying to see so many falling in love with Molly. All her excellent vocal skills are on display with this moody classic: Her feathery soft whisper tone, her unabashed yodel, her full round resonant long notes. Molly's award-winning guitar talents get well-deserved acclaim, and rightly so. But the lady's voice is to die for. Well done, Molly!
Agreed. Molly plays very nicely, but not overdone. Her vocals are haunting my soul even now. The sidemen playing with her are top notch. The fiddle is beautifully complimentary, and the banjo solo is one of my favorites on that instrument that I've had the privilege to listen to. High compliments I guess, but I am drinking. Last time I listened to this my recollection was the same. I learned of Molly from a thread on a guitar forum where the poster was bashing her. What a knucklehead to not recognize a real talent. I have been smitten with her work ever since.
Molly just keeps getting better and better. Those haunting vocals, the strong, banjo-inspired guitar lines and Wes Corbett's endlessly inventive guitar-like banjo breaks. Did I forget to mention the way the violin and bass somehow contrive to take the mood even deeper into a perfect darkness? Utterly bleak, but incredibly powerful.
As an old dead head from the 80s and ninetys.i must say this is probably the best version I have heard. I've seen the dead version at least 75 times.I t is so hard for me to admit this and come to terms. This is berrer.there I said it.
There is a fountain that keeps on giving Gerry G WOULD have loved this..I checked The original... That Molly Tuttle has her hand on the pulse of bluegrass AND knows what's up the band is deadly Greetings from Dublin Ireland brother and sisters we have know about Molly's guitar skills but this IS another level.. OUTSTANDING....
As much of a skilled and young innovator as Molly is she hasn't forgotten nor forsaken the blues, guts and soul of classic Bluegrass! Amen Molly dear! David Barr
Ron Wolf and the two chords are? I see the G shape and then a shift of the finger to the f on the D spring, so a G7? Also looks like a F thrown in there. Just trying to play along.
Another incredible performance from Molly and friends. I love the last verse when the fiddle and banjo both play tremelos. They perfectly support the words of doom that are sung so poignantly by Molly. This is just great, just great!!
Can't get enough of this. It gives me hope for the future of real music. Ms. Tuttle is surely a musical giant in the making. There are so many fine young players going into acoustic music these days and we are fortunate to be around to enjoy this revival.
That was deep, rich, soulful, powerful music. I am utterly blown away by that performance. Listen to it on headphones people!! You will not be disappointed!! Molly Tuttle is awesome!!
Amazing. She just keeps getting better and better. Beautifully haunting tune, perfectly executed vocal. And her band just kills. They are superb musicians all.
Only 4,132 views? OMG This should be much more to be seen by people around the world. I saw many clips of her but i think this is one of the greatest of her performance.
Exactly! What is wrong with people these days? I don’t get it. Lately, the past 20 years or so I see that people like trash more than quality! And fake mechanical music over real musicians! I don’t like this trend! Like the saying goes garbage in garbage out! You go right ahead and enjoy the trash! Feel free! I refuse to lower my standards and will stick to my Guns!
What a fantastic version. The one I knew previously was by Irish singer Alan Burke and much lamented Irish band Afterhours (way back in the 90s in the UK). This brings a new life to what I had thought was an unknown and forgotten song. Clearly not! Great stuff you lot. Well done. Made a grumpy Welsh fiddler smile! :-)
Hallo, thabks for mentioning Afterhours. I had never heard of them til I read your comment. Found that song and many others here on RUclips, they were great!
Is it my imagination or has Molly's singing improved dramatically? I've always thought of her primarily as a guitarist who also sings, but on this song, it's her singing that stands out. Great performance.
Grown up, probably hit a few bumps, had the heartstrings tugged at, been too hot, been too cold, missed home...all coming out in a little more seasoned voice.
It is a joy to see how Molly continues to evolve: from session instrumentalist to fine performer and lately class vocalist. Her full dedication to quality music never ceases to amaze me.
I spent a few hours watching folk singers in Ireland and you can really see the relationship in songs like this. Lots of heartache dealt with by singing , moving over the ocean with the immigrants from there and picking up more guitar, but very similar.
Molly just keeps getting better and better. This sounds like a song that Gillian Welch would also do a fine job on as well. I couldn't believe that when I tried to play along with this song I could actually do it a little. Its in the key of B Minor. What great guitar playing and blues flavored vocals.
absolutely fabulous across the board - Molly and Band are phenomenal. Molly's voice has definitely grown along with her playing! Also huge props to the sound engineers, pristine.
Very Nice Molly! I've been playing music a long time and your skill in voice a d guitar does the real traditional music honor. Thank You So Much! Your Spirit comes through with Love! DaveyJO
I never listened to much bluegrass ( I mostly listen to jazz). But she is amazing (the whole band too) so now I'm scouring RUclips looking for more. Great guitarist, vocalist, songwriter.
Molly really has her chops down. Discovered her by chance when I received a mailing from a nearby theatre. She's playing in March at the Al Ringling Theatre in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and we've got six 2nd-row-center seats. CAN'T WAIT!
Your vocal on this is just amazing, really makes the song. Goes without saying that your playing and the band are great. Your performance of this song at Nimblefingers just took my breath away.
Found out about Molly while youtubing "How to play Little Sadie" So glad to have the chance/cosmic encounter. Love this song and her telling it from the wife's point of view
already have a ticket to see Molly at IBMA this year would be great to hear this song however anything Molly performs is tops can't wait to see her performance
What a toure de force!! Absolutely stunning. A whole ‘nother level. Especially that little bit of yodel technology in the chorus. Oh Molly, pretty Molly!!!
In 1K years from now I hope this is what the future generation of whatever remembers us by.
Being alive at the same time as Molly and Billy Strings is truly a gift
This song is one that really shows the best of Molly's vocal talents.i hope more people find this high quality recording.the whole band is dead on here.

Can’t believe I went through the first 69 years of my life without encountering this amazing musician
Well she wasn't alive for 41 years of it.
I agree, Roger. She's brilliant.
This has fully restored my faith that there is, in fact, amazing music still capable of being made outside of the 90's.
It’s such a shame music this good isn’t played on mainstream radio. Bluegrass, Afro-Cuban reggae etc.it all deserves mainstream airtime.
This is one of the finest musical performances I've ever seen or heard. Stunning.
Yes. The dynamics are just sublime

Pulls you in deeply doesn’t it, simply mesmerizing
I agree!! Everything is exactly as is it should be. It speaks simply and is complex at the same time. It is deeply felt and wonderfully put together.
Molly, I got addicted to this piece, listening non stop, its pure gold, many thanks to you guys, bravo
A great cover of a great song. Take a bow Robert, Molly and band.
Thank you for keeping this traditional music alive!

Great cover! I just stumbled upon Molly Tuttle and am deeply satisfied with these sounds.
Just brilliant! Rain and snow is a great song and Molly took it to a new level.
I just can't get enough of this rendition. Astounding what can be produced from just two chords....
Ron Wolf and the two chords are?
I see the G shape and then a shift of the finger to the f on the D spring, so a G7? Also looks like a F thrown in there.
Just trying to play along.
Ultimate in Dynamics.
Never mind 'raising the bar'... Molly's solo at 2:38 melted it.
Another incredible performance from Molly and friends. I love the last verse when the fiddle and banjo both play tremelos. They perfectly support the words of doom that are sung so poignantly by Molly. This is just great, just great!!
WOW. I am not easily wow'd and that was WOW! So damn good. Should have 3,000,000 views

Thank you. That was .....................magnificent.
Music is dead for music bizz but fortunately not for music lovers. Great Molly. You move me with your voice, playing and band!
People keep saying "The music's all crap nowadays!" and I don't know what they're talking about...then I remember I don't listen to crap. Love Molly.
I know her music has a Soul, it's almost a living creature! Thank you for this real breath of air under the blue sky of the South! ♥️
Can't get enough of this. It gives me hope for the future of real music. Ms. Tuttle is surely a musical giant in the making. There are so many fine young players going into acoustic music these days and we are fortunate to be around to enjoy this revival.

Yeah the world generally likes crap. This is a tremendously pretty version of this song and the banjo player kills this.

Very well done Molly - You sing so beautifully !!!!!
Strongest vocal performance I've ever seen from Molly... she keeps getting better and better in every way.
A fine version of a classic song. The Grateful Dead used to play this back in the day.
@geezusispan you shut your lying mouth
@geezusispan aint a contest bubba
geezusispan This hipster doesn’t even compare to the Dead. Clean your ears.
I loved the Dead, went to 20 shows. This at Red Rocks in the hot sun....AWESOME. Seeing Molly play it would JUST AS AWESOME (and I could ask her out)
You can hear their tribute to the Dead's syncopated style in all the solos. Great job. Molly and band - BRAVO!! & Thank you!!!!

@@rocdarjargm Grateful Dead… also a first set song too at times
Hallo, thabks for mentioning Afterhours. I had never heard of them til I read your comment. Found that song and many others here on RUclips, they were great!
Just when you thought you had a glimpse of how talented Molly is she pulls out this incredible performance...and her fellow musicians as well!
Hands down the best GD cover ever
The Grateful Dead didn't write this song they covered it.
Absolutely beautiful
Doesn't get better than this!
Is it my imagination or has Molly's singing improved dramatically? I've always thought of her primarily as a guitarist who also sings, but on this song, it's her singing that stands out. Great performance.
Shes been fronting two bands for a while now practice makes perfect.
I agree, her voice is getting better and more relaxed. Already beyond most of us :)
I noticed this as well
Grown up, probably hit a few bumps, had the heartstrings tugged at, been too hot, been too cold, missed home...all coming out in a little more seasoned voice.
David Rothberg listen to her sing the Girl I Left Behind Me with the Belles that should answer that question for you, she’s in. fine voice!
Perfect. A really wonderful arrangement, beautiful vocals and really nice bit of fiddle towards the end. All in all a great murder ballad.
Molly Tuttle , what’s not to love , beautiful guitar playing, beautiful voice, beautiful lady ! 💓
It is a joy to see how Molly continues to evolve: from session instrumentalist to fine performer and lately class vocalist. Her full dedication to quality music never ceases to amaze me.
Molly has been fronting her own band for years while she has done some session work that is not were she has done most of her work.
What a talent! They sound really great!
The best arrangement and recording ever!!!
Love how Molly refashioned the lyrics from the traditional, guy kills his wife, to the wife standing up for herself and killing the abusive husband.
Loved it. Brilliant musos..All the best from sunny Australia..
