I love all the little details and references the creators included in the game. Their website even says that they added a brand new way to beat the game.
When I was little I got my aunt’s NES as a hand me down Xmas present and she had the OG game. I would try and play it but I was a little too young to really get what I was supposed to do but I loved the soundtrack. A few years ago my buddy built me a Raspberry Pi emulator and I was able to go back and play the original game and had so much fun. I’d love to play this remake!
I wonder if you ever heard of it. But there's another fan remake called *Night Of The Meteor* where it's Maniac Mansion in a style of Day Of The Tentacles. The game is still in development but man it look great & I hope it get completed someday.
I was telling my wife and kids about this game , they all acted like i was crazy lol , its cool to show them what i ment. "There wasnt any other game like it or have been on Nintendo."
the thing you forget is modern Hollywood doesn't hire people who are fans or even know about the projects now it's about how many check boxes they can fill.
I’m just now seeing this and it makes me so damn happy I loved this game I’m just playing the music of the ppl in my head as th y walk around and as Ed and Edna show up lol
Hi, just wondering. Can you still get the old rusty key instead of being caught all the time? For the dungeon door. And can you also use Benard to call Edna while u go up to get envelope and call again to get back down and out? Great video and awesome graphics and humor from you.
Well for getting into the dungeon I suppose you'd need both someone to pull the Gargoyle by the stairs to open the door to the reactor room and then yes the rusty key to open the dungeon door. I just assume get caught than have someone posted up by the bottom of the stairs all the time. That's a fair question about calling Edna but as far as I know it doesn't tie her up (no pun intended) to the extent that you can sneak by her with someone.
Getting out of the dungeon by yourself is no problem with old rusty key bc u don't need anyone to push gargoyle going out, just in. And in both the nes and c64 version... u can call Edna with # behind shower curtain and Benard fixing phone with tools in library. U can sneek by... and then call her again to get back down and out. Try it sometime:) either way works
I would recommend this for any one who never plaid this game before who is a snob about NES graphics but still wants the story. It would be cool to see them do a version where the items were in new locations just to make experts work a bit.
I love this game. Commodore 64 first. All endings mastered. Nes is great as well, but must say the sound chip in the c64 makes the difference in the music. I can play either or rn . Fully restored consoles... I really want to try this one. Graphics amazing. Thanks for sharing 👍. I love it!
1:15:00 it's unfortunate, that constant "tremolo strings to crescendo" sound loop actually ruins the atmosphere. it's scary once, but once you realize it means nothing, it just becomes distracting noise. someone like me legitimately could not enjoy the game unless there was an option to replace that loop with normal chill ambience. in general I think it's bad design to repeatedly try to trick players into thinking there's tension when there is none. the game is tense enough without that audio loop. the rest of the music and audio is awesome. if just the tremolo part looped while a baddie was stalking the halls, it'd be perfect. but randomly and repeatedly, no good.
alright, this shits bothering me= does anyone know what to do with the wooden planks you take off of the attic window with the crowbar? (Jeff playthrough) Its not for the staircase, you can only get the crowbar after you fix the staircase
@@Gerdbro as fun as that would be, the developers consciously made the decision to take the music to go in the direction you hear it now. That’s my job as a composer. I would argue that the Mansion Theme be in a continuous loop uninterrupted by whether or not one enters a room with different music. While I personally prefer the musical route Vampyre Games chose for this, I can totally see your point. While I am a professionally working composer, I’ve no RUclips presence. With that said, I’d love to chat about it sometime.
It somehow looks better and worse at the same time. It's awesome, but i would have done a more 2.5 D approach to keep it closer to the source game, and updated versions of the old music, but still amazing job. A lot of fan projects don't follow through so this is kind of a dream.
This is so amazing! I remember copying the Eaglesoft version (cracked) on C64! It was 2 discs. It was better than the nes version, it wasn't so g rated and the graphics and especially sound was better but the load times were annoying at times
Yeah the mansion seems so much bigger in the non NES one, which actually makes sense now that I think about it because of the porting and aspect limitations.
Great, but that music spoils it. This was not a "spoopy" atomsphered game, it was an 80s horror comedy spoof.... This is my gripe with ALOT of remasters and remakes nowadays, the people incharge don't have those same sensibilities in mind and don't even TRY to capture that feel... mostly because they wern't there and don't even care to understand. Example: System Shock 1, ORIGINAL was the team saying "what if star trek had a horror element toit somewhere?" so the game was designed with that feel in mind ((hence why it has BORG and phasers in it lol)). Remasters team didnt have that mindset, they had "how can we make this more like bioshock to apeal to new audiences?" which completely ruined the atmosphere... I feel again, the same thing has been done here. They didn't go into it thinking "80s horror spoof", they went into it thinking "spoopy remaster to appeal to modern audiences" and it ruins it, each and every time. This needed 80s sounding rock, some funky bass and MAYBE a tongue in cheek synth nod to the 50s era of music. THAT would have captured the feel. Good review though matey and play through, thanks for showing it off.
Dave’s skill is pushing the brick
It's his one and only purpose!
I love all the little details and references the creators included in the game. Their website even says that they added a brand new way to beat the game.
Interesting! I didn't see any extra items in my playthrough. I know there were at least half a dozen in the original, some happier than others ha.
@@LetsPlayWithBrigands there are serval new items, hidden in plain sight ;)
@@me1701-A It's a good point; I was mostly looking for the items I was expecting/knew.
This new game made Jeff more important in that he’s able to unlock new rooms and puzzles.
@@TheDouglas That's great! About time Jeff got some love. He was always one of my favorites because of his theme.

Nice, yeah you should give it a go. The soundtrack on the NES was the best, tho.
Wow ! I remember seeing this project a couple years ago, maybe 2019 or 18. What they have done is simply amazing ! Installing it now.
They did a solid job with it, I enjoyed it!
I can't get enough Maniac Mansion with Brigands!
Thank you BBJ, it's a perfect match.
Love it. It's my favorite game for c64 and nes. Can't wait to try this. Graphics amazing
That is a great remake. They all did an amazing job.
Thank you very much for showing us.
Agreed, I loved the novel spin on this favorite of mine in Maniac Mansion.
Those door opening sounds are extremely similar to AOL IM when a friend would come online.
Haha true, I loved me some AIM back in the day.
That just sparked a memory of the door open and close sound I haven't thought about in years.
I wonder if you ever heard of it. But there's another fan remake called *Night Of The Meteor* where it's Maniac Mansion in a style of Day Of The Tentacles. The game is still in development but man it look great & I hope it get completed someday.
Yeah it looks pretty cool; I'm eager to check it out once it's ready. Love all the love this game gets.
I am so excited for this version of maniac mansion
I was telling my wife and kids about this game , they all acted like i was crazy lol , its cool to show them what i ment. "There wasnt any other game like it or have been on Nintendo."
Yeah it was in a class all of its own. This version is a fun modern way to show people this classic, though.
I wish there was more games like it , It really was one of my Favorites@@LetsPlayWithBrigands
ooh, I didn't know this was a thing! Lol you would have totally rocked voicing Sid! And Blaze could have rocked old surfer guy.
Ha I thought so too; I appreciate it, Endrank!
the thing you forget is modern Hollywood doesn't hire people who are fans or even know about the projects now it's about how many check boxes they can fill.
That's true.
Your voice is the perfect mix between Mark Normand and the guy from Trogly’s guitar channel!
Not that first time I've heard that about MN, Rygo!
Wait, did you reset the game when Ed got to the package first?
I noticed an edit. You don't see Syd use the Paint remover.
Awesome video my friend enjoyed watching 👍
Thanks Psycho!
My Favourite game ever brings back so much nostalgia playing it with my unle back in the 90s
Yep I have great memories of this one, nice to see the update for it.
Love your character choice, especially Wendy! (Totally unbiased! ;) lol) Great video!
Thank you! And Wendy's the best.

Pretty sure that door sound is the old AOL/AIM messenger Sign off and sign in audio. Talk about showing my age. lol
Ha I used to be an AIM guy myself. Crafting the perfect "Away" message; those was the days!
FYI, Mark Long voiced Sid so I think that Cory guy was either lying or changed his name lol
