    Funny that Eugene got a lot of "hate" for the video initially, to the point that he quit the role of coming up with ideas for the band's videos and hired a proper film producer for the following video out of the Micro EP: Perennial. Now pretty much everyone says that this video is dope.
    Tatiana rocking the Coronavirus hairdo, long before it was a thing. : )
    Speaking of Vlad, he's the author of this song.

    there's a vid of Tati showing off a 'tragic kingdom' shirt (one of her fav's) so there is "No Doubt" that Gwen is a big influence for her! :p .. also the only problem I have with Ape is that it's too short but still in my top 5 Jinjer songs! You should do 'Outlander' next... could possibly take over your #1 spot?!

    Some songs you need to listen more than once, they somehow grow on you. Can't explain it, happened to me with Pit of Consciousness, Perennial and I Speak Astronomy, first listen cool and all, now those are my 3 faves.

      All Jinjer songs grow on you. Even now after listening to their whole catalog many times still finding myself liking new things each time I listen to them. Just a great band.

    • @sm3dc
      @sm3dc 3 года назад +3

      @@chillymac4173 Exactly, I was hooked the first time I listened to Who's gonna be the one, and surprisingly took me a few times listening to Pisces to really like it, after that I started listening to their repertoire, and man, they're so good and only getting better. The current lineup I think is perfect, they complement each other so well. Like you said, just a great band.

    • @chillymac4173

      @@sm3dc Yes the current line up and the way they have grown. The sky is the limit for this band. Hope they eventually get the recognition they deserve.

      In my experience it also depends on the complexity of their songs. If your brain isn't that well trained to dissect what is happening then you will not like a song as much, but if you keep listening to it you might train it and bit by bit the different parts and instruments will make more sense to you, and suddenly the song sounds a whole lot different to your first listen.
      Ape is a pretty complex song too, and very chaotic, especially in the beginning. I can see how a lot of people might be put off by that at first, and not everyone would give it an additional chance either.

    • @sm3dc
      @sm3dc 3 года назад +1

      @@Dark__Thoughts brain well trained? I think it was more that I'm used to the traditional death, heavy and thrash metal genre. Jinjer was just a different style I wasn't used to. Pisces didn't hook me at first because I wasn't really surprised she could growl, I'm kind of used to that, and although people give her credit, she's not the first and only one to do that. Ape was actually one of those songs I liked from the first listen precisely because it was more complex and heavier. By now I can appreciate their music a lot more because they're complex and a good band althoghether.

  • @scottmorey6212
    @scottmorey6212 3 года назад +3

    Also, that one take video really shows off just how much work goes in to those 3 instruments (and Tati of course). There's so much sonic power and depth accomplished via 3 instruments, it's nuts. That's why metal is in its own league musically and talent, you don't get this in any other (broad) genre, even classical music suffers from lack of singing and story telling, it's all in the 'feels' of the super talented musicians and composers and the world's best singer/songwriters don't get this complex musical score and relationship to work with.
    This is world-class art.

  • @chriswalden798
    @chriswalden798 3 года назад +16

    A lot of jinjer songs that don't initially grab you will start to grow on you after several listens, just how it is with their stuff. I still pick up on nuances that I hadn't heard the first 5-6 times i hear one of their songs and it has changed my perspective and enjoyment of it. But this isn't sushi, not everyone cares to take the time to listen to a song a half a dozen times in hopes they like it. lol.

      + If you're like me and don't know better, you're gonna pull the lyrics alongside after a year of listening to them and discover the song is even better. And this is knowing they don't just produce music without some meaning behind it. Btw, the lyrics reminded me heavily of Bad Religion's Chimaera

    Damn man you are killing the Jinjer reactions. Truthfully you are getting into them way faster than I did. It took me a long time to get into them but when I finally did it was game over. Now can't stop listening to Jinjer. Best band in metal maybe best band period.

    When I initially was getting into Jinjer, I was also beginning my dive into metal in general, and when I heard a Jinjer song that hit a little too hard for me atm, I started to peep the lyrics and every time w/ out fail I ended up with an entirely new appreciation for the song. IMO -Tati is a top 5 creative lyricist.
    She uses irony and satire often.
    (Ape, Home Back, On The Top, No Hoard, Outlander..)
    SO, if something isn't hitting your ear right, maybe it never will, but maybe peep the lyrics before a listen. Just a thought. It made me love Jinjer even more.

    You know I had to comment again bro LOL.😄😄 "Ape" is my 2nd favorite Jinjer song only behind "Pit of Conciousness". Funny thing is, when I first heard Ape, I was like ok, it's cool, but after listening to it about 6 times, I fell in love with it. Thing is when it comes to Jinjer, certain songs for me (at least) I instantly loved, (Pit of Conciousness, Perennial, I Speak Astronomy) and others they took a few listens to, don't get me wrong, I love every Jinjer song, but some songs I needed to listen to a few times and that's the case with "Ape". I just love this song and you're right, it's very short and as I like to call it, 3 minutes of complete bad ass chaos. Looking forward to more Jinjer reactions, and as always, stay Metal. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶

    Ape is so chaotic I wasn't sure if you'd like it as much as just finding it interesting. She's all over the place but it's awesome you enjoined it. Ya she loves No Doubt, her musical tastes are all over the place which gives her such a huge range. You've become an unintentional Jinjer fan and I love it.

    I wasn't a massive fan of Ape on first listen, it's uncomfortable but that's the point of it I think, ties in with the lyrics and story - you're meant to feel uncomfortable, like you can't settle.
    It's a grower though. If you listen back to the tracks you've already reacted to you'll find yourself enjoying some more than the first time. There's a lot of depth in their later albums, takes a few listens sometimes to enjoy them as much as others.
    Thanks for the double features, much appreciated 🙏

    Grooving to Jinjer, especially on first listen can be near impossible. The time changes in most songs make that near impossible. This song is mostly 4/4 and 3/4, but as always they throw in more little sections of screw the clock. I tried tapping it out and got a different meter than my drummer. we started arguing about it.... so I had to look it up. the parts i can never count right (so I dont lol) are 5/4 and 6/4.
    Right when you get the head bop to sync, the time changes just enough to throw you off and by the time you realize it, they are back. I am old school and just having to adjust to the drop A tuning, all the time changes tend to make me have to go by feel and be very familiar with the song. another reason I seem to like the older Jinjer songs

  • @philanaemic
    @philanaemic 3 года назад +1

    A good measure of just how good Vlad is on the drums is the drums-only version of the "Ape" video. He only really needs to play along to the recorded version but if you pay attention he nails every single beat and subtle detail on the kit. And he plays to a click track at every show, so he's doing that pretty much every time.

    I appreciate seeing this from your perspective. I have never gotten into this song. Their musicality is always undeniable, it’s just the constant change of pace for me. Like, I’m getting into a riff, feeling it, head banging, then it shifts suddenly. And by the time I’m into the next riff, it shifts again, without ever really going back to the first riff. Just me. I can always appreciate their skills, I just have never gotten into this song. Awesome to hear another perspective though. Rock on! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

    Yes it´s short, a short stick of dynamite! Love it. You REALLY got do "Retrospection" official or live or double as you wish, astonishing at all levels, one of my top favorites and it´s from last album. And as other people sugested "Outlander" also, one of their first bangers. No live double feature on that one, the available live version have the worst audio. Go for the failure.color video, when you search you´ll see.
    Loving your reactions, keep it up.

    Yes it's jinjer time. So you were ready for Ape next you should check out bad water official video and live no growing at all just her singing that's it . it's a slower song like pisces. Great grove thought. And yes the songs are pretty short under 5 min isn't that long. Anyway we all have songs we like better than others but still no bad songs. Peace ✌️ from Stan the Alaskan

    This isn't my favorite Jinjer track but it's pretty good... You're right about the cadence, It's kinda hard to find the grove in it.
    I know you haven't made it thru all of Jinjer's discography, however, I have a new band you might like to check out: Motionless in white and since your ears have gotten used to a heavy sound, I'd suggest "immaculate misconception" to start with. It's an absolute banger. Don't be worried about reacting to different bands! Most of us are here to see you, not necessarily our favorite bands. Always take risks 🤘🤘

    You could've gone with the one live in Melbourne too, just would have to use the full show video and use the timestamp to skip to it. Though, this live one is pretty good too, I think I prefer the stage facing camera perspective though.

    As far as I know Vlad composed "Ape". Small wonder that he knows how to play it! 😉
    And they have to recycle their outfits on tour because they still travel very lightly in their small van. In one of their interviews Tatjana kind of complains a little bit about that (just a liiiittle bit 😊)

  • @russellward4624
    @russellward4624 3 года назад

    Finding the Grove can be difficult if you're not used to progressive music. Time changes and polyrhythems is tye norm. This song starts 4\4 triplet, then goes to 5/4 back to 4/4 to 3/4 with triples here and there. I don't think its possible to play any Jinjer song without in ears. The other instruments totally throw me off.
