YT hates me and my comments keep disappearing so if you see like four of the same comment that’s why lol
Please watch the video on how tool used fibanocci to structure lateralus.
That is LSD artwork if I've ever seen it. LMFAOO subbed
@@kyleboswell1381 Alex Grey does their artwork. He’s amazing 🖤
This song is 21 years old.. And still sounds as fresh as when I heard if for the first time.
Spiral out!
No doubt. I remember going to Tower records and buying this magnificent album. Sounds so good and hasn't aged at all. So many albums from 2001 sound so old and dated but this gem sounds like it came out yesterday. Amazing.
There you have it! The greatest rock song ever written! Yes, I said it! It’s the greatest musically, lyrically, and artistically. Some may argue, but for me, this is the best.
It’s the best song I’ve ever heard …… people think I’m crazy when I say that
Absolutely!
For me it was… Till Pneuma
@@robyhartland852 I really can't argue with that.
This is top 10 for me. My #1 is Kashmir
F I B O N A C C I
This song is based around the Fibonacci Sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,13, etc) which is the mathematical spiral that exist everywhere in nature. Sunflowers, pine cones, etc. Even the band is playing in time signatures of 9,8, and 7 of which 987 is a number in the sequence. So in the beginning the syllables of the verse is in the sequence. Definitely one of the best in their catalog.
just stopping in to make sure someone mentioned the Fibonacci sequence so Sean knows why this song was different. Carry on XD
The gong hit never gets old.
Danny likes his gongs 😂
Yeah , everyone loves a good Gong
The live drum cam of this one is so awesome because he swaps his right stick out for a big mallet while he keeps the beat on the hi hat and snare with his left hand and smashes the gong and then swaps sticks again all in one motion it’s glorious to behold
The music actually makes me have chills.
I get what you mean about listening it to at an older age. I always enjoyed Tool when hearing them growing up, but when I actually dug into the lyrics more as I got older it really hit me on another level. That's when they became my favorite band for a long time and they are still right there near the top.
I totally agree. They've been my favorite band for well over 20 years, and I just recently realized that I grew up right along with them. Literally and musically.
Spiral out refers to the Fibonacci Sequence, naturally occurring spirals in nature. It’s the mathematical equation that the two first numbers added equal the sum of the next creating the golden ratio or golden spiral. I just watched a RUclips video on the mathematics of Lateralus, I highly recommend looking for it and checking it out
No it doesn’t. The song was made well before they realized it kind of lines up to the sequence. They laugh about it.
@@chrisreynolds35 bro, I literally just watched a video about this. The original song title was 987 because Danny’s drum beats cycle through beats of 9 , 8 and 7. Which is a number in the Fibonacci. Also when Maynard was working on the lyrics he deliberately used the Fibonacci sequence with his syllables. It began linking up to the Fibonacci sequence." The syllables Maynard sings in the first verse follow the first six numbers in the pattern, ascending and descending in the sequence 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3. "Black (1), then (1), white are (2), all I see (3), in my infancy (5). It continues from there. By the time he references spiral out they already knew it was in reference to the sequence naturally occurring in their song and in nature. Spiral out felicia
@@chrisreynolds35 might look into that again
@Christopher Moltisanti hahaha!!!!!!!!
@Christopher Moltisanti Dr Fauci 🤣🤣🤣
LMAO....they're so fucking good........20 plus years later that song will mow down anything out there!!!! And a Life Mantra......Push the envelope, step outside the box, draw outside the lines! LIVE LIFE!!!!! Love this band...perhaps their greatest piece
And still be a human…
What nice about their songs is how intentional they are. There always seems to be a purpose...a desire and ability to take you somewhere.
Great band. Been a fan since 1992. I will never get sick of Lateralus. Ever. Such an incredibly meaningful and powerful album. Seeing the band live during this era are memories I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Grower it is. Exactly. Just like growth of Golden Spiral. This one even got lyrical connection with a Fibonacci sequence. Example;
Black(1)
Then(1)
White Are(2)
All I see(3)
In my infancy(5)
Red and yellow then came to me(8)
Reaching out to me(5)
Lets me see(3)
Just a little clue... Bless
I wasn't crazy about this song the first several times I listened to it, but over time I began to like it more and more. I can understand why so many fans consider this Tool's best.
as below so above and beyond I imagined (13) drawn outside the lines of reason (8) watch it bend (5)
Laturalus is still my favorite track but there are a lot tied for 2nd.
Great Reaction! This song is a masterpiece..The flow of Maynards lyrics are based on the Fibonace sequence.
I lol'd at the triple expression at the end😁🤘🤘
I'm so glad you love reacting to Tool, because I love watching you react to Tool. I appreciate you, bro!
Tool has opened up my mind to a whole other level of creativity in music! Thank you, glad you’re enjoining my journey 🙏
Great reaction video. “Over thinking, over analysing separates the body from the mind, withering my intuition, leaving opportunities behind”
Maynard’s lyrics just hit differently. One of their greatest songs.
Also pretty cool you discussed how it is a “grower”, which is the theme of the song in terms of spiralling out/Fibonacci sequence.
This is one of those timeless masterpieces of music and sound that transcends the band, the album, and the time. Their engineering/production/mixing are always top notch, but on this track it is especially astounding, like a 5th band member. I think of this song as a musical tryptic, symbolizing the potential of our consciousness starting at birth and simplicity then going through a period of letting go and dropping the pretense/ego/facades we wrap around ourselves, then transitioning to the epic freedom and transcendence of embracing the journey of experience and growth possible.
This is a master piece! And they have soooooooo many of them. Check out the entire discography and I’ll be here for it. 🔥🔥
This is the best song ever recorded
I love that you commented throughout the song but did not stop it. You are one of the few that get it. Rock on🤘
Hey brother you should do “Right In Two” - you would enjoy that one!
It’s comin 👀
Yes, the more times you listen to it the more you will get blown away! This one took a while and now it is one of my favorites. From min 4 on.. so many chills and tears just come out, feels silly but I can’t help it haha! Can’t wait for your reaction to the rest of this album! 😊
My favorite song off my favorite album, and I definitely get what you mean by it being a grower. I've described the feel of this song to people as a tiny spinning, spiraling galaxy slowly growing beyond your comprehension inside your head. Great reaction
Bro, they used to close out their shows with this fucking song... #BringBackLateralus
This song/Album and Band never gets old.
Spiral Out brother
I clicked on this video so fast. Love your reactions man. Especially the Tool reactions. Can’t wait till you get to Right in Two! Spiral out brother 🌀
THIS SONG IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!
Whole album is 💯
In my opinion the best song ever made besides classical perhaps.
i love your tool reactions , great job .
one word....perfection
Jambi next!
Dam I can't help but crank my volume up to max when I hear this song 🔥.....thanks for this awesome reaction...... Spiral Out, Keep Going 🤘
🤘😵💫🤘
Dude!!! You have to hear reflections off this album!!!
+1
Yup
Epic. Feels like I’m sprinting in slow mo
Damn...i wish i could listen to this for the first time again!
Great react!
Ikr! I would love to be able to go back 21 years and relive that album for the first time. So fn good 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Another great reaction. 😀That atmospheric, spacial sound of Tool is more a feature of the later two albums. The more visceral experience comes with Aenima and Lateralus. Despite these two distinct aspects of their music, there's a fundamental Tool DNA that is there throughout their work. For me, there's no bad Tool song... they are that good!!! Aenima and Lateralus are two great albums that you can have fun with. 'The Grudge' is one of their amazing songs where lyrics and composition are beautifully integrated; the vocals and musicianship stellar as usual. Then there's 'Push-it' from Aenima.
Just a mind-blowing album incredible 💯🔥🚒💪
I will say this..... Lateralus is a fgn beast of a song! One of TOOL's best songs ever and that's a strong statement my friend.
Loving all the Tool! Keep rolling with the journey! 🌀
🤘😵💫
You fool, Sean! 🤣 I was worried too, dude, your face was showing disappointment for half of that, then your Tool face came back! Excellent song, right? Play it again. And again. For years. It never gets old. Looking forward to the next one. 🌀
Enjoyed your Tool reactions man. Not a fan of stopping and starting a song. You let the song play and you speak in-depth afterwards. Keep it up 👍
Third eye by tool third eye by tool!
Check out the Mathematics behind Lateralus, how Tool use the Fibanacci Sequence.
It will explain Spiral Out.
Hypnotic
The way you mention how the song grows and spirals its intensity is interesting and check the lyrics to find why!!
Great reaction! Glad I found the channel. Keep em' coming & I'll keep watching. Analysis was spot on. This was my favorite song for 20 years (Pneuma is fighting it for the mountain top currently). Do a quick search about Lateralus and the Fibonacci sequence. Future suggestions: Pushit, Reflection, Swamp Song, Third Eye. 🤘
Thank you! Yes I’m very curious on the genius behind this song and would like to dive into it
Yeah. So glad that you’ve experienced this. There’s so much more. I know that you’ve heard of the Fibonacci Sequence by now. It’s what this is. A literal evolution of music. More that we might have ever known.
The album art like others have said is done by the artist Alex Grey. Off topic, but the artist is also involved in a art experience called meow wolf. I went to the one in Vegas and it was an awesome experience! Kinda a funny/dystopian/ dmt feel. I'd suggest going if your close to one, they have a few locations in the USA. Anyway, I'm also a huge Tool fan like everyone else here and absolutely love your reactions to them! I will keep watching if you keep posting. And typically like alot of people, I gotta suggest a song, I suggest Eulogy off of the Aenima album. The lyrics are edgy but the drums are my absolute favorite out of all their songs. It's like you said in this video, they are simple sounding, but so complex at the same time. Anyway keep it up man, loving all of it!
Here 💯 for Your Tool Reactions!!
🙏🖤😵💫
lol, you're welcome myman - thanks for the shoutout. This one is a good one and I knew you would like it. You should hit The Grudge soon - or if you're in for a longish journey, do The Holy Trinity next (Disposition + Reflection + Triad all together as 1 track). As I've said before, I will be here for the ride 👊
Raw, and beautiful viewpoint, I laughed too (about the fool).
Thanks! This is my all time fav from this band 🖤
It was a good one! Glad you enjoyed it
@@SeanStaxxMusic Please react Lost Society 112 someday 🙏🤘💥
Greatness right there!!!... Listened to Vicarious yet?
That part was gas
Next up, "Ticks and leches." 🌀👆🇺🇲🤘
9:41 FRFR
Also, to me, “spiral out” does not refer to being hypnotized (which would be more spinning in a closed circle). It means to steadily increase my sphere of experience/influence.
“To grow,” as you say.
How can I listen to this multiple times a week (for yeeeeears now) and STILL get shivers watching/listening to your vid? How?
Because tool is a one of a kind band!
@@SeanStaxxMusic 100%. I hope there's new stuff from them in the near future so I can listen for the first time again
My favorite Tool song.
SS, I just listened to your track "problems". It's a catchy sound bro. Definitely will add you to my liked songs I usually listen to daily
Thank you bro I appreciate your support! 🙏🖤
Another great reaction!!!! You need to get to Vicarious man.
The booklet that came with this album was even crazier. Each page was a different translucent layer of the person and picture. Trippy af
Oh that’s awesome
I completely agree. The booklet had images that kind of messed me up , but intrigued me. I’m still here.. full on. The sequence is the thing that it is. I know great music. This is. Yeah.
Please react to MJK's third band, Puscifer, and their song The Humbling River.
TOOL IS FOREVER!!!
Yours is the first reaction (that I’ve seen) that has noticed how complex the simple sounding drums are during the quieter section. Great observation!
Thank you 🙏
I missed that part too- Thanks to Sean for pointing it out
Can't wait for you to react to 10,000 day (part 1) and Wings for Marie (part 2)
Spiral Out is to Tool = Worship is to Sleep Token🎶👍
Love it🎸🎶
💯
My first Lateralus experience was “only” 3 months ago and I still have a lot of the same emotions listening to it….
I’m about to watch start the video, let’s see if you’re “spiraling out” at the end!
Welcome to the Rabbit hole good sir. Not sure what your background or what songs you have heard by them but definitely check out their song Third Eye. It’s the final track off of Aenima, but it’s the beginning of TOOLs journey down the rabbit hole if you will
@@johncarpenter3751 I appreciate the advise. Tool came out when I was about 16-17. I enjoyed the songs that were played on the radio in the 90’s and early 2000’s but never dove down the rabbit hole till about 3 months ago.
@@randyrubio1296 wow, I discovered TOOL when I was 13 watching Beavis and Butthead. I discovered Pantera the same way. It was 1994 and those two bands helped shape my adolescence
Just about to start... Further comments later... Get ready for the ride on The Golden Spiral 😉 Bless🌀🤘🌀🤘🌀
Excellent reaction.
#Spiralout #ToolArmy
Thank you, glad you enjoyed 😵💫🤘
@@SeanStaxxMusic Always. 🌀
Great reaction as always man! I've enjoyed watching the journey. Spiral out!
This came out in 2001 it only came onto RUclips and streaming in 2019
staxxs if you like this you should do the Salival version of Push IT.
"These drums are so simple but sick", haha watch Danny play this then tell me how simple it looks.
Welcome to the ToolArmy !
🤘😵💫🤘
“FOOL…you FOOL, Sean”
Nailed it.
😂
gotta be pushit next surely!
I can tell you really like the more mellow side of Tool than the heavier side. As you may already know, their earlier records were much heavier, more straightforward rock. Starting with Aenima, they begin to get more experimental and more progressive, introducing more of the hypnotic, mellow elements that you like. I would recommend "Pushit" off of Aenima for one of your next listens. I think you'll dig it. 👌
Since you are listening to Tool's records out of sequential order and for the first time,Z I think it's better that you are older and able to absorb and understand the complexities. I personally feel that their Fear Inoculum release played more of a homage to these older releases, Lateralus the album standing out as a major evolution of the band.
He says so simple when it’s a crazy polyrhythm.
music should be a great ride.
💯
Damn Tool 😂 🌀🤘🏻
😵💫🤘
Spiral out, I get it now!!!
😵💫
It's interesting to see someone move backwards through the albums, but I can understand it for sure. They haven't missed once in their whole discography.
Fibonacci
it's a tribal-alien-ARTbeat
Lol true 🤘
Dude, wait until you get to Ticks and Leeches. Danny works over that drum kit like it's behind on loanshark payments. 😁
Their second best song after The Patient
9:48 - I said outloud, "Yeah. Yeah... Yeah!"
I was feelin it 🤘
Wings for Marie 1 and 10000 days ( wings for Marie 2) will move you
Absolutely 😌
The Fettuccine sequence
Lmfaooo this comment made me wheeze 😂
6:18 "simple" is not the word.
Some one please explain the Genius of this song with the Fibonacci sequence and whatnot lol..
I'm to dumb to properly explain tool songs to others
I've been a Tool fan from the beginning. 92 LA The Whiskey- Rage against the Machine opened for Tool 💦💦💦 Unbelievable Show that left me half deaf in one ear. But these Tool Fan Club extraordinaires with all their fun facts and over the top opinions are a little too much. I mean everyone and their brother is now Fibonacci historians. Too much
Tool its always amazing!😊😊 can you react to smashing pumpkins -wyttch???? I love that song! Its amazing!
spiral out
"His drums are so simple but so sick" 6:17
on that part!?!?!?! XD if only you knew what he was doing there.
I wanna see! 👀🔥
@@SeanStaxxMusic There is a really good drummer "Johnkew" that did a cover of it, and it's amazing, but- He's playing straight triplets but diddling every fifth note. the diddle creates the illusion of a different rhythm. When there are two different time signatures that eventually resolve it's called a polyrhythm, something Danny Carey is a master at. also Here is that video, really check it out, it wont disappoint: ruclips.net/video/iicYWl3w2rU/видео.html&ab_channel=johnkew
Like the vibe and tracks but Tool brought me here. You should try a song but knock the vibe back about 1/2 the rpm…especially for Right in Two !!!
Bro... I was gonna G check ya for the drum comment then you said what was needed
🙏🖤
