As a martial artist let me tell you those were no normal punches but rather a series of precisely coordinated attacks to the nose, ribs kidneys and throat. Some of the most delicate zones in combat. Any opponent would go down after a beating like that

Thanos already had the power stone here but yet really flexed that he can beat anyone hand to hand combat without needing a single stone.
I don't know... have him fight Black Widow or Captain America in the hulk buster. He can't rely on his ninja moves because they are skilled hand to hand as well.

Still I dont get, why Thanos moaned from exertion when he lifted Hulk. Like, Hulk is around 6-700kg (google search lol), and lifting that weight for Thanos is like lifting a pencil for me.

Thanos is thousands of years old. He has been through countless battles and wars. He’s had a lot of time to hone his skills and strength. He’s also a genius in addition to all this.

Though I was surprised at how easily the Hulk was beaten, it eventually made sense to me. An early demonstration of how dangerous this foe is; unlike any they’ve ever faced.
Hulk's definitely the stronger of the two, but Thanos is smarter and actually knows how to fight.

God... Take me back a few years to when this came out. It was utter absolute perfection. I watched the midnight showing and i remember walking out stunned beyond belief..Bravo Marvel. I dont think we'll ever get anything like it again. End game was almost just as satisfying but Infinity War was something else entirely!

That is not the HUlk that gets madder the strong he gets and the more powerful. He would have pushed hulke to limit and he would have transformed toWorld Hulk. Those blows would have did nothing. Fight scene on ship made no since. The ship would have been destroyed if the force was enough to even hurt the HulK. Thanos would have been in space and unless he can breathe space or transport, he would have died. We know now that Thor can survive space.

I always felt that Hulk should have lost another way. Where Thanos gets overwhelmed at first, but then you see the Power Stone glow, increasing Thanos strength and giving him the advantage. I think that would have been better and make more sense why Hulk lost easily.
It definitely would’ve been more satisfying especially for hulk fans but I think it was done this way to show just how strong Thanos is without using the stones.

That is definitely not the comic book Hulk. He would have morthed into a more powerful HulK. He do not need Martial Arts Skills to fight. Those blows would have had but little affect as he transformed. They have done this 2 times in Fight scenes but we know from comics how powerful Hult gets in the Comics and this is not that Hulk for sure. That ship would have been broken apart before HUlk would feel any blows. Slamming him on ship would have destroyed it and him to unless he could transport. Stupid fight scene. NO way he could take on Hulk and Thor. Not Possible even if Thor has not got all his powers yet.

Love how calm and poised thanos was all through his combat with hulk. He simply just countered all of hulk moves the move he had enough. Hulk got his ass beat down and everyone watched in dismay and disbelief.

That throat punch was a stroke of genius by the writers. In a real fight that same move would at a minimum, even the playing field against most opponents no matter the strength or combat skill level. If you also have some combat skills yourself then this result could be yours.

Probably the worst part of Infinity War? I get why it was done this way, and there's a point being made. Still... how contrived is it that all the Asgardians INCLUDING Thor are just get a major beatdown by this unknown force and Banner is just "hiding"... until of course Loki calls him out?!? And KNOWS he's going to come out at that exact moment??? C'mon. There were definitely other ways to write this plot point in just as efficiently, I'm sure.

@@westside9032effortlessly I don’t really agree. Thanos has stated in the comics that he avoids a fight with the hulk because he knows just how powerful he can get. Thanos is smarter and knows in the comics he needs to take him out early or it will be a different scenario and knows it is almost impossible to slow him down. Hulk has defeated thanos before in the comics and once they went at it for a while and became almost a stale mate before thanos got feed up with him and stopped fighting him. Thanos is a skilled fighter. Hulk as to my knowledge hasn’t ever been trained to be skilled in fighting. Just uses his rage and that is usually all he needs.
I really hate watching hulk lose. We all know he's capable of so much more!

It's clear they had to create a very short scene to make everyone fear how powerful thanos was even with any stones. Taking out the hulk in a few seconds with a few punches? We saw Stark in that crazy suit battle him forever and it barely worked. Throughout the entire series he was shown to be insanely strong and powerful and no way to control him. Thanos, knocked him out and body slammed him in a few seconds. Crazy. And yeah they had to make room for captain marvel.. because at some point she might make an appearance in a super natural fashion no other marvel character could match.
Thanos gave The Hulk a severe beatdown that kept him terrifyingly lock up in Bruce. Now if Eric Bana Hulk was fighting Thanos instead then that would have been a completely different story.

This scene to me best showcases the difference between Thanos and Kang, and why Marvel have got themselves into such a muddle with Kang.
Kang is constantly talked up by others, painted as the most powerful being in the universe, someone to be feared, yet when we see him he is fairly easily defeated (multiple times). The audience are obviously going to be disappointed given the expectations that the story raised for his character.
Thanos doesn’t need to be talked up. He’s barely mentioned once in the first three phases of the MCU. Then he shows up, kicks the crap out of the Hulk and kills Loki. The audience know this guy means business.

Nice detail: when Loki says he's not Asgardian, Thanos makes a gest (and the camera takes it) like he's uneasy - and analyzing - with this misinformation by his side.
Finally, Loki still has his promise to be fulfilled by his hand.

I just realized, when Thanos says "that was a mistake", it's because he knows about the avengers, he should know who the hulk is. So he realized that Heimdall had alerted the Avengers - that's why Thanos cared.
Hulk is just pure rage power. He just smashes. Most likely never really needs more then that. Thanos looked like he was fighting like a boxer or mma fighter. He was doing like combos and hitting critical spots. Looking to do the most damage. He was going in more refined while hulk was going in chaotic. Only seen the movies, so I'm sure hulk does use his brain to some degree

He usually one of the bigger power players around and doesn't really need to do more then that. A lot of collateral damage. In the mcu, he doesnt really use his brain much. Dont read the comics, but im pretty sure he has some normal intelligence on occasion. Again, Thanos was going in like a trained fighter. He didnt really need strategies or anything, but could come up with one other then just smash everything. Though that would work in a lot of cases in the mcu

Problem is, Hulk Is a tank. He can tank punches but also throw them. But here, we have a different variation of Hulk, one that they had to nerf significantly over the years and aside from "smart hulk" he's one of the weakest variations. So it's more of a lucky case that In the movie Thanos was given this version of the Hulk instead of the actual one. If he did fight the Incredible Hulk (without nerf) he would have had to use the Power stone to defeat him, which makes more sense instead of what we saw here

This scene was a perfectly demonstration of that: a guy that is incredible strong vs another one wich is equally strong, but it also knows how to use that force even better

The concept of "endless" strength never made the jump from comics to films. And honestly, I'm glad. You can tell better stories without it.
Hulk can easily be beaten if the opponent is capable of delivering heavy and devastating blows within a short period of time. Hulk requires a certain amount of time (usually from frustration) to become angry which leads him to become unstoppable when he is fully enraged.

I really liked this opening scene . It set the mode that this villain is very overpowered. He went for the powerhouses and the gods first showing he plays no games.
It really grinds my gears that hulk didnt get angry and then actually grow like hes suppose to. None of the Disney marvel movies portray him growing as the rage grows, an it really fucks the plotline, qnd chocks the editors to being too lazy
Although I agree with your overall statement I think it could probably be explained away in this particular instance that Hulk isn't angry, he's scared. If you watch when Thanos gradually pushes apart his arms you can see Hulks face show an expression of "what the fuck?" and then when he gets smacked right after he lets out an audible groan of pain. At this point Hulk was no longer angry because he realised this opponent was unlike anything he faced and could quite easily kill him if he wished, so the anger was quickly replaced with fear and therefore the source of Hulks strength vanished leaving him to get his ass wrecked.
Maybe try actually reading comics with the Hulk before commenting as though you're an expert on the character. Hulk only gets stronger when the fight goes on long enough. Numerous times hulk has been knocked out in his base form by a powerful opponent because he didn't get the time needed to get angry enough. This is how Thanos beats Hulk in every fight they had in the comics. He is stronger than base Hulk.
i think what it is that most dont understand is that yes the comics are different but none of the movies portrayed him like they do in the comics, the movies needed to keep a continuity, and so what happened to him simply isnt sticking to the plot of his overall on screen life. just look at the first two movies, the abomination didnt give him time to think either, he still came back.

They had to nerf hulk for the sake of the story. If hulk was 100% OP then the movie would be over. No stakes no crisis. Notice how Thor; a character renowned for his physical superiority was also weakened for the sake of the saga. You can’t have it all. Creatively speaking this was a necessity but even if hulk was at optimal, thanos had the stones in his possession so hulk wouldn’t really get that far regardless of his preternatural abilities.

The only reason thanos won against hulk because at 0:55 he targeted hulk’s nerve points he grabbed and squeezed both of hulk’s wrists/forearms where lung 8,lung 6,heart 5 and pericardium 6 were targeted,squeezing those points causes energy drainage,at 1:03 another nerve strike (vagus nerve) grabbing and pressing the wrist at h5 an lu8 before attacking the vagus would cause energy drainage making the strike and resultant and can shut the whole nervous system down,another strike on p6 at 1:07.hits another nerve again(auricularis magnus) at 1:11 will/can cause a KO.another nerve strike 1:12,1:13 hits the vagus nerve again.basically this fight had a lot more to do with skill than strength.

Of course Thanos was targeting Hulks’ critical points. He’s clearly a very well trained martial arts fighter and knew exactly where to hit him to get the job done faster. While hulk only aimlessly “smashes” doesn’t factor well into someone who is a trained fighter like Thanos who can instantly evade and block him

Thanos and the Hulk fighting here kinda reminds me of the Spence Crawford fight that took place this past weekend.
Besides the plot details, the entire point of this scene is just to show the audience that Thanos is a badass and can take down the 2 strongest Avengers on his own easily.
