It doesn't matter who you are, where you're from, what kind of music you like or don't like.
Everybody loves the opera scene.
Also, Chris Tucker was the most underrated Scream Queen of the '90s.
😂
😂😂😂
You’re 100% correct. I used to use that scene to test and show off my audio and video setup on my home theater.
The vocal feats performed in that opera are supposedly impossible for a real human to actually sing. There are videos on RUclips of people trying…famous professional singers…and they come close, but no one quite does it exactly.
@@BDogg2023 It's not impossible and is in fact a real Opera song called "The aria "Il dolce suono" from the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor"" by composer Gaetano Donizetti in Italian. During recording/filming of t he movie it was performed behind the scenes by the opera singer Inva Mula. On The Fifth Elemt OST the song is called "Diva Dance" or something like that I believe.
@@TheDeadStretch *Ahem*… I will refer you to the words of the composer himself. From an article entitled “The Fifth Element Diva Song Was Literally Impossible to Sing Until Now”
Remember Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element? Remember how amazing her voice was, not to mention her range? There’s actually a story behind the song because it isn’t 100% what it seems. While much of the song is sung by a real opera singer there are actually notes in there that human beings can’t actually reach. This is a story told by Eric Serra Eric Serra tells about the notorious diva scene played by his girlfriend at the time Maïwenn, and of which he composed the music.
“In that scene Maïwenn plays the diva but the voice is not hers, it is the one of a true opera singer, the Albanian Inva Mula. When the scene is shot she is a young talented soprano, yet her agent was Maria Callas’ one too, showing, if need to be, that she was already a promising artist. Today she is in the world’s top ten sopranos. For the scene to work, we needed her to sound like an alien, thereforee we had to create notes that no human could sing. So I purposely wrote un-singable things, some too low, some too high, sentences that were too fast, I would then arrange it with the sampler.”
Like I said…they come close. Very close. But not exact. Thanks for playing.
Chris Tucker's (Prince inspired) performance as Ruby Rhod is one of my all-time favorite "big personalities" in any movie ever.
Especially when he makes his 1st appearance in the movie.... Dancing and sliding in the hallway with his Mic 🎤!! *Chris is an awesome actor!!!* When you can go from *"You got knocked the FUCK OUT"* ...Friday (President Deebo) to his character in this awesome movie 🍿🎥👍
@@seanpatton7406Add the Rush Hour movies to the list as well. "Stop eating thyroids!!!"
I saw an interview with Chris Tucker he said prine was supposed to play the part he played but passed on it that's how Chris Tucker got the part
They actually tried to get Prince in the role and he said no. Probably where Chris got the inspiration from.
Prince had the part, but thought the costumes were a bit too, feminine. He wanted total control over his wardrobe & wanted to design his own clothes. Worse, they had to accept whatever he came up with. They said no thank you. Prince left the project when he couldn't have things his way.
This movie is 2 straight hours of batshit insanity and I love every second of it.
My dad used to rent this from blockbuster until we ruined the vhs 😂 we named a cat Leeloo but we learned how to say the entire name 😂😂😂 this movie is so much fun!!
This is how I named my dog too.
Loool we also named our cat leeloo
Omg similar story, I named one of my 1st cats Leelu different spelling but the whole name on paperwork and my mother still has her... she called her mama LeeLu and now just Mama, and she's still alive had a few litters and is 10+ years old... late 2000 somethin is when I got her as a kitten....
Omg are you my sister?! My dad used to reserve every movie from blockbuster every Tuesday, and our dog was named leeloo!!
I hope someone called their dog Corban Dallas
As a reactor, you'll love this: Bruce Willis' reaction in the opera scene was a genuine reaction. None of the actors in the audience knew what was going to be on stage when the curtains came up,. The director (Luc Besson) has done this in a few of his movies, where the primary actors know there's a surprise coming, but they don't know what it will be.
It really heightens the scene for me, seeing the dumbstruck awe, and standing ovation from Bruce Willis, both in and out of character.
That’s only for a shot though.
I'm pretty sure Bruce also didn't know that Milla would be speaking the fictional language made for the film in the scene where their characters meet.
Hey thanks, this is an old fave and I never knew that, it adds to the scene. Appreciate you!
I worked on this film as a stuntperformer . Its great to see all the positive comments for this and much it meant to them with good family memories ❤
I love this movie, actually, his reminds me I need to watch it again,it’s been too long!❤❤🔥🔥
That's because it was such an awesome movie. I could watch this movie a thousand times and never get bored of it.
I miss movies like this, everything now is crafted on computers and in green screens.. It all feels fake compared to older movies.
@@kellynolen498 I did many bits on t h e film but the main stunt was the airport explosion. I was the guy far left flying through the Air. Great movie.
We loved this movie growing up. Still a classic. Congrats
There are some things in life that money can't buy. For everything else, there's Multipass.
My kids and I cannot say this word with out saying it Mool-tee-pass. It just is.
🤣👌
The moment Chris Tucker bursts onto the scene as Ruby Rhod, the whole movie kicks into high gear and doesn't stop. He's my favorite part and I could watch him scream, flail about, and broadcast his show all day. Super green!
He almost didn't have the part. His character was to be cast by Prince, but due to him being on tour, he couldn't.
Bzzzzz!
such an original story/movie....don't see that much anymore
Love this movie! One of the rare plots where the protagonist and antagonist never actually meet. And god, do I love Gary Oldman!
He's one of the few that can literally play ANY role to perfection. From pimp Drexl in True Romance, murdering drug addled cop in The Professional to good cop In The Dark Knight... Man nails it every time.
Your right just noticed that, love this movie! The previews were vague so going in we didn't know what to expect, once it was over we were blown away!
I'm still waiting for a reactor to react to Sid and Nancy, with a very young Gary Oldman 'as' Sid Vicious. The film is not highly regarded by critics, but that's because everybody thinks it's a biopic, it's not, it's a punk fairy tale.
@@clevelandcbi To Oscar win as Winston Churchill😀
I was watching the Harry Potter series and got to Serious Black. I said, "Hey, I know that guy." I had never seen any of his other work, and I'm not one to recognize actors from one project to another. I popped in my fifth element DVD, and then I knew.
I only recognized him because I had so much admired his performance as Zorg.
Gary is awesome. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What I love about this movie is that it just feels like such a passion project that got lucky enough to have all the stars align to make a near perfect movie.
You have a fun, clever script with just enough depth to get you invested, a talented cast of actors that are at the top of their game, insane levels of worldbuilding for such a contained story and amazing set and costume design that has made this movie age suprisingly well in terms of visuals
This is one of those movies that I'm honestly glad never got a sequel, because its honestly perfect as is.
It got "Valerian and The City of A Thousand Planets", also made by Luc Besson, which is close enough. 💜💙❤️
My late best friend had the biggest crush on "the blue chick" and would rewind her singing every time we watched this. Had a thing for Mystique in the X-Men movies too😂😂😂. R.I.P. Weirdo.
This was a favourite of my late bestie and I as young single ladies living together. We watched it all weekend because friends and relatives came by and couldn’t figure out what was happening. Glad you had your friend, even if your time together was too short, appreciate you sharing a memory like that. My nephews recently watched this and text me asking if I had ever heard about it seeing as it was from my century…#oldandhumbled😂

Fun ass movie!
Absolutely adore this movie. Back in the olden days, when cable was still the main way we saw movies at home, it didn't matter what point of this movie it was at when I came across it, I would stop and watch. So glad you are checking this one out!!
Oh, this movie is just SO GOOD. It was clearly made with love for science fiction at every level. And the fact that it feels like a comic book movie and yet it's entirely original is another level of win.
Even better it didn't get sequeled to death. If it came out in the 2010s we would be groaning at next summers 11th element movie, lol
its a movie with almost everything! action, romance, intrigue, comedy, cool costume designs, memorable characters, big setpiece moments, singing and dancing… what more could you want?
@@c.o.6414great music too
i feel like there won't ever be another like it again
When the general swings the multipass and says "if you want out of there, you're going to have to learn to work on your communication skills", she reads his lips through the glass but the badge swings to block her view, and if you read his lips, all that she can read is "if you want air, you're going to have to learn to kill."
🤯
If the voice of Corben's boss/former army buddy sounds familiar, that's because it's Vin Diesel. Love this movie, the world building is so fun. Also the costume design was done by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and several of his major fashion models make little cameos throughout the movie.
Ruby Rhod was the first influencer with big personality in the movies. He's got followers even before the term follower became popular.
Because television and radio clearly didn't exist before the 21st century. I know, because I was born more than 50 years ago, and before the internet came along all we ever did was sit on the lawn and watch grass grow. We didn't even know there was a world beyond the grass right in front of us. All of a sudden, internet showed up and it was like all new people came alive that never existed before.

The thing about Gary Oldman is he's not so recognizeable for many people because of his ability to blend into roles like a chameleon; we're talking about the man who played Sirius Black and Commissioner Gordon within the same timespan of years! XD
Yes! People often talk about Johnny Depp being a chameleon.... and he's great, too. But Gary Oldman is almost unrecognizable from role to role 🥰
And Dracula.

But in the end it's a love story😘
Also, Mila has the greatest resume in the world. "What have you played?" "The perfect being." Top THAT!

Fun fact: Prince was offered the role of Ruby Rod, but he turned it down, Chris Tucker took it in a heartbeat

Watched this movie soo many times! Everytime I call my brother or he calls me we always go "Korben Dallaaas!" Or when I call my dad or he calls me we always answer with "champagne for the diva"
So many great moments in this
at my age when I see Tom "Tiny" Lister I think of Zues.
Milla is just flat-out gorgeous. I swear those eyes are too gorgeous to be real.
Opera scene is one of the best masterpeices ever created, years later, still gives people goosebumps!!!
Lelu questioning humanities worthiness, is the film's most powerful moment for me. It made me really think about what a hopefully benevolent alien species would think of us. If we don't question what we are doing, we will never change.
Gary Oldman is hard to recognize sometimes because he's such a chameleon. He was in Leon: The Professional, he plays Gordon in the Christopher Nolan Batman films, he was Dracula in the "Bram Stoker's Dracula" movie, he was Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, and so many more. Probably one of the greatest actors working these days.
genuinely one of the best scifi films made. its a must watch when its on tv as its just so fun
I thought it was too over-the-top goofy in the theater. Probably watched it a dozen times since and swear it just gets better every time.
Im so happy you did this movie. Such a classic. Keep your reactions super green!!!!
Sidenote: I rescued a kitten here in Milwaukee on the street last winter and i named her Leeloo. I say to people her name is Leeloominaï Lekatariba-Lamina-Tchaï, Ekbat de Sebat and i can say it pretty well too. I gets laughs all the time. She is actually on my shoulder on my profile picture. Ive also watched plenty of reactions of this movie and i have to say, yours was so much fun watching. Your commentary always makes me laugh and makes my day better. Keep it going Leo!!!
This is such a likeable, loveable movie. Absolutely fantastic. I mean "Corben Dallas, Multipass!" and Chris Tucker absolutely stealing the show :)
Mulllltea...passss
Saw this in the theater when I was a teenager with my dad. So original. Loved it!
The Fifth Element has aged very well. Great reaction bro! 👍🏿
Hands down a family favorite. Bruce Willis, Mila Jovavich, and Chris Tucker are the best trio. Mila was in the Resident Evil franchise if you've seen that. Gary Oldman was in Harry Potter as Sirius Black and as Commissioner Gordon in the Batman Trilogy. He's so good at changing up the look of a character that you'd never know it was him.
Leo will never recognize Gary Oldman in True Romance 😉
His accents are phenomenal too. You would never guess from this movie that he's British
@@LordVolkovhaha yep and he was fantastic in leon the professional👍

I just barely started the video and you perfectly encapsulated gary oldman ("I don't recognize him") because he's so good you can hardly tell he's not the actual character
Just for some knowledge on actors, Gary Oldman played Commisioner Gordon in Batman (The Nolan one's), Sirius Black in Harry Potter, Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2, and many more!
I love him as Dracula in the Bram Stokers version with Keanu Reeves .i think that was his career breakthru role
@@jasonuvartfeather369I think his break out role was as Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy. An incredible performance.

The Ruby character was supposed to be played by the late Prince but he dropped out and Chris Tucker got the part instead cause Prince recommended him for the part. And Chris as usual killed this performance:)
“AHH! Every 5 minutes there’s somethin, a bomb or somethin!” Lmao one of my all time favorite quotes and deliveries
So many great gems in this movie, but the one scene that never fails to do me in with laughter is when Ruby Rhod gets handed a gun and told to keep it on that one Mangalore. The scene is hilarious because up until then, he was trying to struggle free, but when he saw how shaky he was when given a weapon, who looked liked someone who has never held a gun in his life, he froze instantly, not even so much as taking a breath. But it didn't last.
I love this movie, such a classic. Did you know the priest is played by Ian Holm who played old Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings!! He passed away in 2020. Zorg was played by Gary Oldman who was Commissioner Gordon in the Batman movies with Christian Bale. He was also Sirius Black in Harry Potter. Great video Leo!
Loved Gary Oldham as Carnegie in the Book of Eli, opposite Denzel. What a great movie!
I have seen this movie hundreds of times and it NEVER gets old. It is prolly the only film that I will sit down and watch until the end no matter what I am involved in when I encounter it.
Thank you so much for reacting to The Fifth Element. It's so overlooked by reactors and it's one of the best Sci-Fi/action films out there. It's absolutely my favourite. The comedy is on point all the way through and Chris Tucker's performance is hilarious
First time making a movie suggestion, but I think you would have an amazing time watching The Crow. It stars the son of Brandon Lee, who is Bruce Lee's son. Brandon tragically lost his life while filming the movie. The Crow comics the film were based on was also inspired by a real-life tragedy that the comic book creator, James O'Barr, experienced.
The scene when they create Leeloo from the gauntlet is a direkt remake of a similar scene from METROPOLIS (1927) by Fritz Lang. So are the flying cars.
It's amazing that these scenes pay hommage to a German science fiction film that is bloody 95❗ years old now!
I was lucky enough to see this in the theater. This movie blew my 15 year old mind. One of my favorite movies.
This movie had me convinced as a kid that we'd have flying cars in the future 😂
I was struggling and so bored today, lots of stuff to do for the new school semester and no good videos to vibe with... then you uploaded this video and it's one of my favorite movies. You know how to make someone's day better, Mr. Video! I'm so excited! :D

You are one of the few people that’s actually shown the divas performance and your reaction to it. For what ever reason most people edit most of the scene out. Thank you for another great reaction video!
Also need to add- Seeing that diva scene in the theater with that sound system was life changing. I am so glad you enjoyed that scene the way you did!
This is a fantastic movie! In addition to the wonderful fun onscreen and wacky plot, the music is so fitting and really good. It was such a fitting icing that just tops the movie off perfectly. This is one of the few movie soundtracks I can listen to.
There are also so many good quotes from this. "Anyone else want to negotiate?"
Possibly my favorite movie ever. Seriously all these years later it strikes me every time I watch this that it is for sure my favorite move. The themes, the effects, the performances? All perfect.
I grew up watching all of Bruce's movies 🎥. I think this one is in my top 3.... definitely, top 5!!! 🤔🙂
For the OG's on this channel: the scene with with Milla(Lilo) putting that dehydrared pill 💊 into the microwave, and out came a full course meal , is a clear reference to "Back to the Future" similar scenes similar situations

This is the movie I suggested in the poll. I'm so glad you watched it Leo and glad you enjoyed it.
Love this movie!! It was originally supposed to be a trilogy. Luc Besson had 3 scripts written that he condensed into 1. Would have been crazy to see the way it was meant to be

I was lucky enough to catch the 25th anniversary in theaters last year. Never got to back in Fifth Elementary School Year. That old priest is Ian Holm aka old Bilbo from Lord Of The Rings and Ash from Alien. So many good cast members in this film. The general is from Blade Runner and this was his last film. Absolutely love Eric Serra's flawless score. One of my favorite movies of all time!
Saw this in the theater when it came out I was in high school, My best friend and I were blown away by it. Music , action the comedy. Also at the time was the largest filmed indoor explosion in the opera house
Inva Mula is the name of the opera singer behind all those marvelous vocals! When I was a kid I really thought some of that was synthesizer, I couldn't imagine a human could make some of those miraculous sounds. Maiwenn is the name of the actress who portrayed the diva. There's a very cool documentary on RUclips called the diva it's like 10 minutes but a very cool behind-the-scenes with her giving a full account. The only interview I believe she ever did.
A lot of it IS synthesiser...as in the modern part
Much of the second part is artificial - deliberately made as "not humanly possible".
All of the notes are sung. The thing that makes her sound alien is how they edited it together simply bc there are sentences/phrases that are simply too fast to be sung together, to get to point A to point B. But not the actual notes. So the splicing you hear is that but every note was sung. You can also find some amazing live versions of it by other opera singers. You can hear the difference, sure, but its all just enhanced real vocals.

Favorite sci-fi movie ever, such a fun ride. Ruby Rhod is brilliant, and the sidekick priest has some funny nervous body language.
Opera singers are pretty incredible. The singing was done by Albanian Opera singer Inva Mula.
Monsters, props, backgrounds, spaceships and cars and many lines/references and more are from 20+ years of sci-fi movies and sci-fi TV series. Part of the fun when it came out was to see how many you could spot.
I remember when i went to a "sneak preview" with my friends nearly every weekend, not sure if that is a thing everywhere, but in germany some cinema theaters give you the opportunity to see movies weeks before the official start, you pay a bit more and you do not know what kind of movie you will see, in some cases we left after 5 minutes because the movie was crap, but in this case we stayed and we all loved the movie, the best moment was when corben had to "activate" her and the whole audience nearly simultaneously started to shout: "common, say that you love her", and after he did ppl went "finally, aaaaaaw!"
One of my all time favorites. Way ahead of it’s time.
If you like Milla please watch The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. It is one of her earlier movies and is one of her best in my humble opinion... also has a stellar cast.
Thanks for the fun reaction Leo.
Yeah, she's often overlooked because she's mostly been in awful movies, but she's fantastic in the good roles she's had.
This is the VERY first live action movie that wasn't a cartoon that I paid attention to and enjoyed.
It's an absolute masterpiece and I recommend it to everyone.
The Arabic song played in the cab chase was my VERY first experience with such music! I loved it immediately!
Gary Oldman always does such a wonderful job and I absolutely love his role as Zorg!
Chris Tucker absolutely killed his role as Ruby Rhod! XD
Just letting you know, the actors had NO IDEA what opera they were in store for. That's their genuine reaction to the show.
Hate me if y’all want, but I sometimes skip to the part when Ruby Rod show up on the cruise ship. That point forward is my favorite part!
Understandable, it does feel like a whole different movie from that point(The Cruiseship) on!!
Chris Tucker has that in common with Orson Welles; doesn't show up until the 2nd half of the movie, _but immediately_ becomes the main character
The woman singing Opera on the ship is actually a real Opera Singer

And what I LOVE about this movie, the hero and the vilain NEVER meet, or actually interact at all!!! The music, the over the top Chris Tucker performance, the costumes....everything about this movie was great.
The opera singers song is one of the best, most memorable parts of this movie tbh lol. If you wanna see a Male singer totally nail it check out Dimash doing Diva Dance (name of the song) at his 2017 Bastau concert... he murders that song
Yes! The "impossible song".
Tucker was amazing in this film; he did the part perfectly; i read where the outfits were originally designed for Prince to play the role.
The guy that plays the bad guy is Sirius black from Harry Potter. This guys range is boundless.
Gary Oldman = Sirius Black (harry potter) + Commissioner Gordon (Nolan Batmans). He's quite the chameleon, so for you to say you don't know him kind of plays into his reputation of being disguised right in front of you :D Cheers, Leo!
This is the first movie i watched on DVD, on a big flatscreen TV with a dolby 5.1 surround sound home theatre system as a kid. They had it playing in a TV store and me and my brother stood in the shop and watched the hole movie. Then spent the next month bugging mom to buy a new TV and sound system 🤣

Anyway, I love the Fifth Element. One of my all time favorite Sci-Fi flicks and one of my favorites overall.
You know how Chris Tucker keeps screaming “Korben, Korben?” Well, I borrowed that at home when the Lakers dominated in the 90s and whenever Kobe Bryant did something amazing in crucial times (almost always), I used to scream out loud: “Kobe, Kobe!” in a high voice just like Chris Tucker screamed “Korben, Korben!” Shaquille O’Neal used to get a deep “Shaq, Shaq, Shaq, Shaq!”
Anyways, I love all your reactions. I love you, brother. You the man, big homie.
