    Piston Boss runs parallel to the crank ...Top ring: 10 clock, Second ring, 2 clock, oil control rings 4 o clock & 8 o clock..Use a compression tool to collapse rings when installing piston in bore, Lightly oil the piston skirt, and put the motor together like your operating on an open heart patient. Don't forget protectors on the Rod Bolts, as you tapping the piston into place. Bearing lube ...keep mating surfaces of the rod cap and big end clean and dry. Thin oil on the threads only when torqueing together. Experience...6 motors a year, almost 35 years. 2 failures. 1 455 Old's dropped a valve, 1, 454 Chevy valve spring bound up, hung a valve, lunched motor...Both motors in Go Fast Boats...Not a bad record. Tom Harrison , Pin position the first thing I noticed. Go back to school Summit Boy!!

    If you line both of the up, you will have blowby and lose compression, top ring should be on the back of the piston and the bottom towards the front on the engine

      Joseph Rajaram I’m with u bro, is the correct form to put the rings in the piston, 180, the oil rings one in the front and the other in the back, the compression and the other ring one in the right side and the other in the left side, it’s my way to put the rings on, what is your?

    The expander pliers might work on big pistons, but when you work on small engines like motorcycle, pulling that gap wide enough to slip down over the piston almost always breaks the ring on the opposite side.

      I'm sorry but his drawing is wrong. The wrist pin is supposed to be parallel and inline with the front end and the rear end of the crank correct? The wrist pin can not be at the right angle of the crank! The wrist pin the small end and the bug end are parallel with the crank otherwise it doesn't work.

    Can you flip a oil control ring ? because some 1 said to me that if you do it wrong it wil scrape oil up and not back down.

    • @SummitRacing
      @SummitRacing  9 лет назад +1

      Hi remkopopma,
      The three piece expander type oil ring consists of two steel rails, which receive equal pressure from the center expander to assure positive oil control. The three-piece design allows rails to be manufactured with a small cross-sectional area for better conformability to the bores of today’s low-tension, low-friction engines. The rails thin wall contact also allows for quick break-in time. The stainless steel rails are normally chrome plated to resist wear and extend engine life and have no specific top or bottom when installing.

    What about ring gap clearance? Does the ring come already cut to what you need or will you have to file it down and gap check it?

    • @SummitRacing
      @SummitRacing  4 года назад

      If you order standard fit rings and the cylinders have been bored/honed to the correct specs, the ring gap should also be within specs.
      If a standard set gives you too large of a ring gap, you will need to get a set of file-fit rings, which are generally .005” oversized.
