  • If you own a Toyota Matrix you need to know how to reset the MAINT REQD (maintenance required) light. If you call the dealer, they will have you bring it in and charge you for stuff you don't need! This light comes on after 5000 miles. Mileage is what triggers it. It is NOT triggered by the car detecting that something is wrong or in need of attention, like the check engine light. Save yourself some money and reset it yourself.

I like how you explain the thinking behind the the alert, that it's just a reminder that 5000 miles have passed and maybe it's time to do something. Nice, clear and efficient instructions. Thanks.

Thank you! Yeah, when a light comes on in the dash, it usually means something is wrong, but not in this case.

Thanks for this. I thought that doing an oil change would reset this, but I guess the mechanic would have to do it manually, as in the video? I had an oil change a few months ago, so I wondered if I got ripped off when the light came on.

It is something that has to be done manually. If it came on shortly after an oil change, the mechanic probably just forgot
