Hannah I don't know if you're old enough to remember when people were getting into fights over Cabbage Patch dolls and Tickle Me Elmo. It was so funny.
That’s why I hate the song high school never ends, because in actuality, it really hasn’t for some of us as millennials. So many overgrown teenagers today and those of us that have grown up, or having to deal with the repercussions of both our boomer parents, turning into children, and a overgrown teenagers of our own generation
These aren't "influencer videos". They're ADVERTISEMENTS. People complain about Netflix ads, but then they'll spend an hour watching ad after ad on social media. Weird.
That one girl who screamed "it's $45!!!!" That's really sad, she's not excited about the gift, she's excited about how much it cost, the monetary value that is communicated to others through this cup. She's excited people will see her as someone who can afford a Stanley cup.
She’s super excited she got it. She likely assumed her parents wouldn’t get it cause it’s expensive for what it is. Like the iPod was an expensive MP3 player back in the day.
Those people are simply insecure and look for validation from others. I say that not to be mean but only for understanding. I feel sorry for them if that’s why they have something.
As an elementary teacher, arming my kids with a cup that -weighs 4 lbs when filled -has a stiff straw -can't reasonably be put in a backpack -has a handle for ease of swingin' -is made of metal -has a top that can fall off and spill literally 40 oz of liquid on my floor Is a big old "leave it at home"
I saw a video yesterday of a little girl (maybe 10, wearing uggs) assaulting an adult woman with her Stanley cup in Ulta for not giving her the last of a product she had found that the little girl wanted.
I agree however they have a water bottle style that is perfect for their age though my daughter is not getting the $45 cup lol but the $35 water bottle I would
Scarily, I'm studying consumerism as an aspect of my bachelor's degree and this has literally been the best example of mass media and artificially generated demand I've ever seen. I've been referencing this craze in almost every discussion, it's just too perfect. Consumerism is wild.
This has always been and will always be. Started way before social media. Hula Hoops in the 50’s, Pet Rocks in the 70’s, Cabbage patch kids in the 80s, beanie babies in the 90s. There will always be something that is in high demand, short in supply and coveted by the masses. Once this craze is over, we will be moving onto the next big thing. I’m genuinely confused as to why people are shocked by this.🤷🏼♀️
I'm old enough to remember the Beanie Babies craze in the 1990's. It's the same thing. In a few years, these "collectors" won't be able to give these cups away.
This product was taken off of the shelves by Stanley a few years ago because it wasn’t selling. They changed the colors and started marketing to nurses instead of contractors and that’s all they needed to sell out. It’s such a good example on how it doesn’t matter what your product is, marketing strategy is everything
@@Penguins875 like the “pet rock” phase in years past. We’ve always had rocks, but you put a name to them and suddenly it’s a pet. Brilliant marketing plan, dumb consumers.
As a European I cannot comprehend the insanity of this. How is that even possible? It scares me how people are so easily manipulated over such trival things...😮
And the manipulation goes deep. I saw once on a FB group a girl asked the other members weather they can recommend the Stanley cup and all answers were like: “you have to be really careful with it, don’t just put it in your bag because it leaks easily, but otherwise it’s really amazing quality, I love it! ❤”. And the girl, after receiving all these answers, still decided to buy the cup too! XD like come on, this crap doesn’t do its only job - to hold the fluid inside. How otherwise do you measure a cup’s quality and what makes you judge the quality as good if it leaks? 🤣 and for the girl - what answers could possibly scare her from getting the cup if “it doesn’t work” did not? Then why even ask? 😂 just to show off with the fact that she’s about to buy it? 🤣 so many questions haha.
I don’t know where in Europe you live, but teenagers in French private schools obsess over having designer brands and masses of skincare products that aren’t even good for their young skin.
@@mrn234 It’s on a different level now. They used to just covet what their peers had. Now they watch adult influencers who have steady incomes and brand deals and want lifestyles that they aren’t old enough to pay for yet. I hear it all the time from kids I work with. “You’re so lucky, you get to buy the things you want.” No, sweetie, it’s not luck, I have a job and still have to pay bills first just like your parents. And if I had kids, I’d be able to do even less of what I want, just like your parents. They’re old enough to access and consume the media, but too young to understand what goes into it or how much of it is contrived. It’s a real problem. They have completely unrealistic expectations for what their lives will look like in a few years, when they have to support themselves.
Honestly if everybody has it then nobody is special😂 Moreover I really laugh at people dwindling their money to capitalistic companies😂 So dumb. People honestly know the price of everything and value of nothing.
My husband bought me one years before they were popular. He isn’t on social media, he just was buying me a cup that would make my ice last during summer cross country races. But people love to hate so it’s a trend to get upset about someone’s cup now. It’s strange. How can I make fun of people today, is the new thing.
Same. I've got a perfectly nice reusable bottle already. Why buy more than you need? As Hannah says, it's defeating the purpose of 'reusable' if you buy tons of these things.
I have two metal cups I bought for 15 bucks four or five years ago, and they are all I need. I bought them when we were working in the office so I didn't need to use disposable cups, and wouldn't have to worry about them breaking. They are still great!
If I needed a cup I'd consider it bc I use the one I have daily and they seem to be well made. Fitting into a car cup holder is a nice feature (though that design is being adopted by others now) But the thing is my current water bottle works just fine and I don't need a new one. I doubt the people getting into fistfights over the trendy color ways are in that dire a need of a reliable water bottle
But the Yetis are good product and I really do not think to many people are getting rid of $400.00 cooler in droves if they are someone who really needs it. It is nice when car camping not to have to get ice everyday since the ice last 3 time longer in them then the regular cooler. If you are 100 miles from ice, you want it to last as long as possible.
I bought a Swell bottle on employee discount when I was working retail at 22, and I still have it now at 32! The idea of buying more than one is so weird to me - the whole reason I like it because it's still in great shape 10 years later . . . like, that's the point!
I have such a bad attention span, but I always end up watching her videos, full, without subtitles, without being distracted in between!! Girl got some magical power
If kids are getting bullied in school for not owning a Stanley cup, then the parents of the bullies should confiscate their kids' Stanley cups as a form of discipline.
If this were a UK school they would just ban the cups, same as they did with Pokémon cards and other collectibles when they became a cause of bullying or discourse
Right?!! I feel like social media can make kids want & get excited about literally anything! I mean, it's just a literal cup! My kids were totally fine with their convenient, easy to carry, Swell water bottles, which keep their water cold all day during our hot 100° summer days. (Which my kids only have because I got them on clearance at Barnes & Noble for $10) But now my oldest thinks her Swell is junk & thinks she needs a Stanley to carry around everywhere 🙄🙄🙄 I literally can not roll my eyes hard enough. Ummmm how about let's get kids excited about say, idk, vegetables or "real" food. Because thanks to social media, my kids think that they need to eat legit crap 🤷♀️

It's so crazy that that's something that needed to happen. I genuinely drink a ton more water since getting my one Stanley cup since I've never had a metal drinking vessel. Kids should probably get in the habit of drinking water regularly, but definitely don't need 40oz at school lol
@@ashleyboudreaux6875 Lululemon is such a rip off. I can’t imagine why anyone would buy a child $100 leggings that they are gonna outgrow in about 2 months! No thanks! I’ll spend my money on something more valuable, like my child’s education. My daughter’s school is a catholic school as well. They have uniforms but every Friday is free dress day and thank goodness, even on free dress day, they are not allowed to wear anything with a logo, name, or any other branding on it. Even their socks have to be plain white. Lol
It just takes one big influencer to say Stanleys are not cool anymore or start parading around another cup brand for the whole thing to fall. That's how fickle and precarious are these trends.
I saw someone post about how Stanley and hydro flask are beefing and how they didn’t want a hydro flask before but now they want one…..it’s like dude you’re falling for it! It’s really scary how easily our minds can be swayed like that!

Meanwhile, less clean sustainable water supplies to housing also due to pollution making that crap. Including these devices.
Kids getting bullied for not having name-brand stuff has been going on before social media and the Internet. I grew up in the '80s and '90s, and I remember getting bullied because my mom shopped at Kmart. (The ironic thing is that I *did* grow up with money; my mom just loved herself a good bargain!)
Same! 5th grade in the early 2000s and was already getting bullied for wearing JCPenny instead of Hollister (looking back, why did their parents let them shop there at such a young age???)
I just had a flashback to girls in my high school wearing Benetton sweaters. Our "social media" was Seventeen magazine telling us what was trendy. This kind of thing has always existed.
I just started watching your influencer insanity series. I had no knowledge what a Stanley cup was. I originally couldn't figure out what the "Stanley Cup" (the hockey trophy) could possibly have to do with influencers. Now I know. I'm really enjoying your series. Not only did I learn about ASMR (from the first episode), but now I know about Stanley cups. I don't generally follow influencers (although I do love a good organization video), but I find your videos both entertaining and educational.
When my daughter was in high school lucky jeans were all the rage. They were $90. I bought her one pair for Christmas. When the time came she wanted another pair and I told her she would have to get a little job to earn them herself. She got a little job busing tables at a restaurant part time, she saw how long it took to earn $90. I think this taught her a really good lesson. She then decided not to buy jeans that are so expensive. She now shopped at thrift stores and looks adorable!
This is great! I have young kids, they’re 3, and I have been wondering what happens when I don’t want to buy them expensive things once they begin going to middle/high school. This whole topic of overconsumption has been in my mind for so many weeks, I’ve been wondering how my husband and I can teach our children the value of money in this day and age.
Interestingly, growing up, my parents had plenty of money. But I don’t think my sister and I ever followed trends, they didn’t matter to us. I’m wondering how I grew up not caring for trends. People in my class had Facebook but I wasn’t allowed but my life was perfectly fine without it. I’m glad I went to a school where people didn’t bully each other.
Combine that with the new lead information...if people are throwing out their cups with the bottom popped off that lead is going to leak into the soil.

As an African who's never seen this cup in real life besides on social media,I don't understand the craze. Also,is it that people don't have enough life stresses to get obsessed with a cup?A cup?wow
I’d love to know your thoughts on these children screeching and crying over these cups because this American thinks it’s extra. I can’t imagine what those in other countries are thinking.
I own one(Christmas gift) and I own a couple other trendy bottles. It leaks, it has a lot of spots that can get dirty, and honestly, I don't get the appeal. It's an insulated cup that's reasonably durable. That's pointless when it leaks if it falls over. If I drop it, the straw will get dirty. Like it's a fine thing to have on my desk but I honestly have liked every other water bottle I've ever had more.
As an American, I don't get it either. They are too large to comfortably carry around (I swear the influencers barely put anything in them or they are empty, cause they are super heavy when full!) and they are super top heavy because of the shape and height, so they can be tipped over easily. This trend is at it's peak and we're going to look back in a year or so and wonder why everybody was loosing their minds over this.
I was a kid who could never afford name brand anything growing up, and was bullied maliciously for it. It really does plant a really negative seed in your heart to be left out just because you don't have something that's labelled "cool" or "trendy." Thankfully I've grown out of it, I wear my walmart clothes with pride now thank you very much!
I'm more disturbed by these parents showing their kids and family's private moments online than by kids just being excited by new things. It means the parents want clout too.
Exactly. "look at how good of a parent I am. My child has a stanley, isnt she thrilled! I am thr best parent ever." I was surprised there was no video of a kid having a meltdown because their cup was the wrong colour.
Yep. It's so weird. And this kids are acting this way because they've seen other videos like this. They know they're being filmed so they perform accordingly. It's gross.
I can proudly say my 14 year old did not want one. She has a 32 oz Bubba water bottle and I have a Hydro flask 32 oz tumbler that I got to help me stay hydrated to prevent constipation 😆
Kids experience peer pressure and are judged harshly for their belongings and what they wear to school, etc. Homeschool could teach them that these petty things don't matter.
@believestthouthis7 homeschool many times missed the part of socialising and growing over these things in society. It doesn't matter, but it's up to the kid to develop skills to realise it does not matter. That takes time, like... until you are an adult you cannot get over that egocentrism natural from teenagerhood.
@@cloudsofsunset7323 Some of the problems with the school systems are that it forces children to endure bullying and to be influenced negatively by their peers. This makes them too focused on what their peers think, rather than on what really truly matters in life. Homeschooling done properly, by loving parents, should build a strong bond with parents and siblings instead and can thus help children avoid the negative pitfalls of just following the crowd of their silly, immature peers or the negative influences online. Ideally homeschooling is supposed to give them a running start at life that the school system just can't offer. 1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV - When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
What really blows my mind is that some people in the world are fighting for actual water, clean water to drink. I can't imagine what they would think of this cup phenomenon. So glad you're covering this, i love the mlm content and am enjoying the new subjects you're also covering.
Exactly my first thought when this CRAZE started. Gangs all over the world are controlling where citizens in the country can get clean water; people are dying from lack OF access to clean water...and we have THIS going in America...
I think it’s 2/5 of the world population that don’t have drinkable, clean water. I get buying a cup you like but acting like it’s life or death if you get one is so stupid!
My daughter came home asking for one. I don't have one, but there are other girls in her SECOND grade class that have them. I pointed out that they leak and can't be thrown in her backpack and that her water bottle (super thin and rectangular like a notebook) was unique and special. She hasn't asked again.
That's the biggest issue to me. It's not just that these cups are crazy expensive. They are super impractical. They leak (widely known, except for in the ads... oops I mean influencer videos), they weigh a ton, the straw isn't covered. They don't do anything a regular glass/cup can't do.
Those rectangular water bottles are so cool!!! And let’s be real, because it’s all fake hype, rectangular ones could just as easily be the next “cup du jour” when the tides turn
When my daughter asked for one, I told her I would buy her a new cup if she wasn't happy with hers anymore (which did sometimes leak and was slightly small), but I REFUSED to buy her a Stanley. I told her I would buy her a big one with a handle and straw if she wanted, but I wasn't paying extra just for hype. (The same thing from another brand would probably be $35 at the most). She picked out a tall thin one that could fit in her backpack side pocket. No straw or handle but she loves it. And she thinks it's better than a Stanley because she picked it out of ALL the other choices to suit what she wanted exactly. Honestly, I agree with the parent in the video, if parents talk to their kids about this stuff, it can go a long way. I know peer pressure can still have a significant influence, but at the ages most influenced here (pre-teen), a lot of kids will still hear their parents out and trust them at this age.
the cups and the joy on the kids' face shows how innocent kids are even today they wanna twin with their friends and be part of a crowd we were this excited for loom bands, friendship bracelets, silly bands, gameboys, nintendos, and so much else damn

I’m 41 and I don’t even ask for anti-aging stuff…. I just scrub my face really hard and get the first layer off every once in a while when there’s too much dry skin and it reacts my collagen and repairs my face. Voilà no wrinkles so far …. that and I am very picky on my diet and eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and proteins with moderate fat…. Also, I drink water . I am shocked to hear that kids want to have anti-aging cream 🤦♀️ The more I hear about school the better I feel about choosing to homeschool my kids.
@icgal23 That doesn't work for everyone sadly because wrinkles are ninety percent because of genes. The way we age is very genetic. I'm thirty and have great looking skin but my mom's fifty and she lives a healthy lifestyle and her skin looks like a raisin. So I'm definitely gonna use retinol and sunscreen. I don't think homeschooling is the answer honestly, although obviously it's your choice. In my opinion sheltering isn't a solution, educating children is. Educating them about how people, companies, ect try to take advantage of them and others and teach them how to defend themselves and avoid falling victim to such things.
@@Jaxmusicgal23😂That is not good for your skin. Lol That is actually damaging. Wow. Use glycolic acid. No damage. Or use retinol (start small and only once or twice a week) and it will actually increase turnover.

The whole pastel leaking cup trend cracks me up because I grew up with Stanley, but the OG. My dad has the classic thermos that he's owned since before I was born; it's beat to heck, the handle is half detached, and the outside is starting to rust, but I'll be darned if that thing doesn't get the job done. He uses it for hot tea on his jobsites. One afternoon he pointed to the thermos sitting on the kitchen counter and told me to unscrew the top and pour some tea into the lid. I was confused but did it. When I commented that it was still pretty hot, my dad grinned and said "That was made yesterday morning." I blinked and then realized that the thermos had effectively kept this tea at a comfortably drinkable temperature for close to 36 hours. And now the company is out here making cups that leak and get backpacks and straw caps. But ya know. Pretty. 😐
I follow a channel called "Irish People Try". One time they watched footage of Black Friday shopping on RUclips. One of them said something that brought me up short. He watched people knocking each other over and grabbing for things and said: "You'd think they were giving out food aid in a 3rd world country". Now I can't watch things like this without feeling a lot of shame about American consumerism, my own included.
Oh wow. What a wise observation. I have felt shame about it as well. I don't go out and buy the newest thing, pretty much ever. I do feel shame though for the fact that I live in a country where most of the people engage in rampant consumerism.
She was about getting rid of stuff that was weighing you down and keeping the things that made you happy. If that meant 39 water cups, she would have that collectors back on keeping that hoard. But in a few years? She'd absolutely would have encouraged you to downsize that same hoard that you're holding onto out of guilt.
Purging was just another status symbol - which critically overloaded our secondhand stores and robbed people of legitimately useful stuff they could have just kept for the future, or created a false sense of 'wow, now i need a new waterbottle'
@@skye1235 And dolls are different! Dolls are a creative storytelling outlet that you can have infinite amounts of fun with - it’s perfectly normal for kids to get excited about them. However, the only reason for a kid to get excited about having a Stanley cup (specifically a Stanley, not just excited they have a cute cup in general) is that they’re *this* emotionally invested in… the idea of projecting wealth? Owning the “socially correct” item? And nothing else. Having kids get this hyped over pure brand loyalty, literally just brand loyalty, is incredibly dystopian.
I still remember reacting the way those kids did when I got a Barbie house for Christmas at age 9 or 10. I would have cried my eyes out if I got a thermos at that age...

I’m poor essentially and my daughter doesn’t get a lot of fancy stuff, kohls but she doesn’t care bc I’ve taught her that stuff doesn’t matter and to stand up to anyone who try’s to bully her going as far as to let her bully a bully and stand up for under privileged kids. She’s doing just fine and started her own business to save money to go to Univeral Studios and take me. She’s a sweet heart, it’s all about how we raise our kids and what we as adults decide is okay or not okay to accept. This cup thing is 🤯
Bullys would just look for a pretext to bully others, it has nothing to do with the victims themselves. I got bullied myself and I was just an average girl who just happened to be too shy to stand up for myself. It wasn’t about me or my circumstances, it was all about them and their issues.
They could (and probably would) have protected you from the bullies. Not by tryind to buy you the fancy stuff but by supporting that the school educates about bullying and protects kids like you. No money needed for that.

In the end everyone fell in love with the thrift store clothes her mom bought her. That is one of the few episodes I still remember because of how much it impacted me and the message stuck.

As a coffee mug collector, I must say I kind of get why they would feel they "need" every single color. I love the feeling of sipping my hot beverage in my super niche mug that fit not only the season and activity I'm doing, but matches my outfit and how I feel. I have 3 mugs showcased in a small glass tower that I never use (too afraid to break them), but I use the other 40-ish ones regularly. Having my hot beverage in a cup that fits exactly the sensory needs I have brings me so much joy. Splurging on something that you will definetly use - even for the visual aesthetic of it being showcased in your home - is fine by me if it doesn't hurt anyone else. Like your Nespresso machine from the self-care video! Which I 100% get btw, those cups are precious nuggets of serotonin.
Thank you for this contribution!! I agree with you and Hannah here. And reading through the comments was getting depressing. P.S. I am also a mug person and a person that enjoys collecting things.
That's how I feel about my travel mugs! Glad to know someone else is on the same page. Mine are almost all exclusively light blue though, because that's my favorite color.
It's normal for humans to want to collect things, that's not what this video is about. Collections ARE wasteful, but they might bring real joy to your life and make you feel like you have something valuable and special in your home that you can take a look at every now and then, or use in an orderly fashion. BUT. That's hardly what these people are doing. They are collecting something because it's trendy, because everyone else is, because it's fashionable now even if it wasn't just a moment ago. I assume you collected your coffee mugs not because someone in Instagram told you to but because you yourself had both the practical need and liking for the mugs. But these people are not buying them because they just inherently are better/more practical/necessarily even better-looking/ than anything else. They just buy them because they think they should, and then getting more colors because it's trendy to color-coordinate your outfit with your cup. Not ALL of those millions of people had an inborn desire for the cup collection, not ALL of them even enjoy the idea of spending their money on it, quite a lot of them just want to follow trends, not be bullied by their friends, get rich by reselling the cups or simply, they feel like they are missing out on an experience everyone else has, so they are buying the cups just to avoid anxiety. So please, do not make it seem like this is just 'people wanting to get things in every color'.
The "aesthetic" accessories are what really takes it over the top for me - "pack my Stanley to go to the store" like you're off on a polar expedition 😂😂😂
I remember when you weren't allowed to bring food and drinks into the stores while shopping. I used to walk 5k most mornings and *gasp* didn't take a water bottle with me. If I was thirsty I would take a drink at the public fountain at around my halfway point.
Breaks my heart for kids who think their worth is in people accepting them because they have a new name brand expensive item. Kids need to accept each other because they are a good person.
the little kid in one of the christmas unwrapping cups in yelling "it's a rock collection" in the background deserves the world tbh that's actually adorable

There was a fight at the middle school my daughter will be going to after elementary school. The fight was over a boy, but one girl took her 40 oz Stanley and bashed the other over the head five times sending her to the hospital in very poor condition. There's going to be a lawsuit against the school as well as the family, and the one who assaulted the other was taken in and charges were filed. Not only is this cup a popularity trophy, it's apparently a weapon, as well. Children said that they could hear the metal cup cracking the other girl's skull
Oh gosh, I hope the girl is okay. They should 100% be banned in schools, in a fight it's obviously all too easy to use the handy cup you carry everywhere- and they more than likely haven't even thought of the consequences of that. Poor kids- one in hospital and one arrested all because of that stupid cup.
I actually said to my daughter jokingly that the only benefit of having a Stanley cup was that it would make a great weapon in a dark alley . That story is so sad.
I’m from the UK and the first time I ever heard about a Stanley cup was the story of the girl whose car caught on fire and the only thing that survived was her Stanley cup and the ice inside hasn’t even melted! She uploaded the video on Instagram and the owner/CEO of Stanley reached out and bought her a brand new car because let’s face it, that kind of advertisement she gave the company was pretty awesome! I saw the story on my newsfeed and thought, ‘Wow that’s an awesome cup, I wonder how much it is?’ I then found out the HUGE hype around it and immediately lost interest 😅
The cup survived because of science. It was some kind of air bubble or vacuum in the cup keeping the liquid cool enough to not melt. It could have been any cup. I heard this from several firefighters. Had nothing to do with the quality.
Rewatching this, and I went "oh, this is the video that made me buy my yeti!". I bought one for me and one for hubby for work, we are both blue collar workers in an old school factory (pretty dirty and temp between 85 and 105F) and needed something big (46oz), durable that keeps our water cold for longer. We both loved them so we bought a "switch one" when it's time for dishwasher. We also got a small one each (18oz) for everyday use. Now we'll be set for decades! Well, the plastic parts might need to be replaced sometime, but as long as they keep making spare parts I wont be buying another bottle for myself. New colors make me want to buy more and more yetis I have to confess, but I try to buy stuff that I will use, that I have a need for or that will make my life easier. The bottles I have fit in to that, buying more cause the color is nice does not. I firmly belive in the middle ground. Not excessive consumption, not denying yourself some quality of life. There is a swedish word for it, "lagom". Sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to say thanks for mentioning the yeti really :)
It is! I had one of these way back when cus it was gifted to me before it became cool and I hated it so much I gifted it forward. I didn't even know it was a $45 cup lol. It's so heavy and inconvenient for every day use.
I have to disagree, maybe my knockoff is lighter than the actual Stanley's though, (and mine is actually leakproof lol). The handle makes it really easy to hold and as someone who was having to pack multiple bottles for everyday outings. I truly love this style of cup
I saw a girl carrying it around recently ☠️ and mind you I live in a country where nobody just carries their water bottles around in hand and it’s not even common to use them at all 😭😭 and it honestly looks insane it’s so HUGE and sticks out so much I don’t see why anyone would want that
The rampant consumerism makes me so mad. You're right, it completely defeats the purpose of a reusable water bottle if you're buying 10 of them that you don't use. And then the accessories? So much plastic and silicone and fabric, virtually none of which will get recycled. Really feels like environmentalists are fighting an uphill battle.
This is why I am a little bit of a realist whenever someone mentioned about the "leave the planet better than you found it" because I'm like... so you're doing your bit however is that going to actually matter against all the fast fashion and consumerism we are seeing? Also, "leave the planet better than you found it" is subjective and honestly no one is perfect so whereas you're doing good in one or two areas, you being alive is causing harm in a lot of other areas just because you're alive. Anyway, I'm just glad I didn't breed. Childfree happily.
This is a pure Us-American phenomenon. No one in Europe uses this things, they are so unpractical. They are too heavy when full, too unsafe to put into a backpack and don't get me started on this rigid straw. ,The US-American society is in most parts so drilled into consumerism. it is baffling to everyone outside the USA to watch the whole country scrambling to follow every trend that pops up.
The usa is obsessed with water bottles for some reason, the popular one in my country is the tupperware one and is mostly among women but they don´t have colections of them, most people just reuse the normal plastic bottles
Yeah don't say these things too loud! In the blink of an eye Europe is covered with everything USA. I noticed the main model was sold out and you could leave your email to be notified as soon as they would be back in stock. This was in The Netherlands.
I feel the now somewhat needed but also overdone thing of not separating yourself from other girls but actually taking pride in being just like other girls - which has years and years of struggle to finally be able to unite women and especially young girls when the entire world teaches them to hate woman/girlhood, now having literally any personality that is different from the masses is again an issue of ‘not being one of us’. So everyone wants the exact same things in different colours, it NEEDS to be the same brand, if you don’t have it, you’re an outsider which is so sad. A very good thing of unity after centuries of struggle was bound to have a downside where you can’t have your own preferences or interests that are different or you’re a pick me (which is a whole another topic) like, it really is a hell hole to be a woman
Beanie babies! Memory unlocked! In the 90s-2000s my grandma let it slip that she liked beanie babies. This apparently led to everyone buying her beanie babies for every occasion. In the late 2000s maybe around 2008 during a visit my grandma, and she pulls out 2-3 giant storage bins full of beanie babies she tells me " I'm not a collector, I just don't have the heart to tell anyone. It just makes people so happy to buy them for me. Feel free to take any you want." My teenage self was in heaven! My grandma passed away several years ago and beanie babies always make me think of her. Thank you for making me think of her this morning!
My grandparents always got Beanie Babies for me and my sister in the 90’s, I was never super into them but I didn’t want to tell them and make them feel bad. So I just went with it. Didn’t take a single one with me when I moved after high school though, not even sure what became of them.
I collected beanie babies! I had them for decades stored in bins and then some lady posted on Nextdoor that her daughter was going on maybe a church trip or something to somewhere in Africa and said that the kids there loved beanie babies. So I took out my favorites and donated the rest. It was fun collecting them though. I'm from a very small, isolated town and my mom and I used to take road trips to other small towns all over the state to check out little antique and gift shops looking for new beanie babies. I have a lot of good memories :) These days, I collect hoyas 🌿
Thank you for protecting the privacy of children by blurring their faces. You are taking better care of them in this regard than their parents are. I grew up before social media, so I struggle to understand the parents; my mom would never turn a private family moment into public entertainment, nor expose my childish over-reactions to public laughter.
But you know they're not crying about having a cup. They're ecstatic over the acceptance it's going to bring them with peers who would otherwise bully and ostracize them.
I feel like thats gotta be their environment right? Other kids and their parents reacting like that over the same things so it teaches them thats a normal reaction to that desire, right? I dont think i could expose my kid to any type of social media until she was much older
Girl, I worked at Target when they released those life sized Elsa dolls and a middle aged man dressed up as an employee and rifled around the backroom looking for one and attacked someone when he got caught. I also worked there when those Hatchamals released and a woman spit on me and took a swing at me when we didn't have any and she camped outside from 2am till we opened when our website said we had them. People are insane and insanely selfish when it comes to acquiring the newest things
I got my Stanley almost 2 yrs ago simply because I knew Stanley to be a durable brand, and also because it would fit nicely in my cupholder. I am now embarrassed to use it outside of my home and will typically put it away when I have people over because I am everything anti- trendy and don’t want to associate myself with the ridiculous hype. It’s stupid really. Because I actually like the cup a lot.
Love this!!!! I felt the same and ended up selling mine on Poshmark for what I paid for it. I wasn’t trying to make money on it. I just didn’t want to endorse that kind of craziness. I originally bought it because it was huge and I could have that much ice water at one time without refilling lol I ended up just using a smaller cup that I already old and just keep refilling it. I’m hoping that they will be a new trend in having beat up old water bottles back in and how cool it would be to be anti-trend lol.
Your self-esteem should be more intact than to let a cup dictate your embarrassment. Who cares if you have one? Who cares if you have something popular? Aren’t you on a phone using wifi to type this message stating you’re anti-trendy? If you are, surprise… you’re not as unique as you think. But it’s also not a big deal and doesn’t determine your worth ❤
As someone who has had a Stanley Cup for about a year and very much does enjoy it, I do not understand the desire at all to just...hoard a trove of them. It's a good cup! you don't need more than one! The "limited edition" manufactured false hype is really bizarre to me.
I have 2 of the littler 30 oz ones. 1 for the dishwasher, 1 for current use. I don’t own any other “nice” tumblers, just regular cups. It’s been really nice to have a decent tumbler for waking up throughout the night with a newborn. Now I do feel stupid bringing them in public though 😂
I love my Stanley’s. Yea, plural. And I enjoy having a few different colors, but I definitely didn’t bombard people to get the latest and greatest color. I simply ordered them or saw them online and that was the end. I use them 24/7, but I don’t see the point of this mass need for them or having every color.
Ditto! My husband and I love our Stanley Cup, which I bought for over a year now. It serves its purpose but I don't feel the need to buy all colors and sizes. It's crazy.
That hype definitely seems to be the modus operandi of the CMO they hired. At least with Stanley they don’t have physical stores, so when the crash inevitably comes, it won’t sink the brand like it did CROCS (which way over-expanded its retail holdings and then nearly went bankrupt).

I saw a video recently of people who were waiting for hours in endless lines for a chance to get a supply of water for the week, because they're in a part of the world where water isn't commonly avaliable. And that water has to be rationed between drinking, cooking, and washing. People are literally dying when they can't get it. We should be ashamed of behaving this way and even hurting one another over something so unnecessary and shallow.
My husband just started working for a city water department. He said we have less than 150 years before we are in a critical, no-turning-back situation that is going to make the Dust Bowl look like a mild inconvenience.
Okay but that has absolutely no point here. The plate you can't finish will not be sent to starving children in Africa. The water we save over here will not be sent to another part of the world. There is absolutely no interaction between the water we have and the water those other people do not have.
I am SO glad my elementary school/high school was kind of poor, so we didn't have this specific type of brand-name bullying. So grateful to be from a very small town!
I hugged dearly my very cute personal glass jar with chipped flamingo picture on it while I watched this. No huge cup will ever replace you, pink flamingo, I love you.
I love it. I had one like that with cats on it for many years. I just recently dropped it and it shattered. So I replaced it with another glass water bottle with silicone sleeve this time. Lol
Haha! I did the same! I said thank you to my stainless steel water bottle with a dented polar bear that was a thank-you gift for my donation to WWF. We've been together for over 5 years and I foresee many more years with it.
This made me laugh out loud, a friend brought me this Frida Khalo stainless steel bottle (because I made her a gluten free cake- see kindness comes round!!!!) And honestly I've had it about 6 years and I love it so much.. 😂 I'm sure someone will say I need to replace it because it let's off some chemical after so long blah blah blah I can't keep up 😂 so me and Frida are gona be sticking together ❤❤❤ great video.. this over consumerism for stupid bottles just makes me feel so sad for our planet.. 😢
ugh, I feel this so much. I will admit, I do have several good water bottles in my house, but that collection is of personal water bottles of various sizes, brands, and expenses that I've been rotating the use of for several years now, and the most expensive one is the sturdy, heavy duty waterbottle I take with me when going on hikes or camping trips, not something that's a passing fad at best.
I always think about the book “Little Women” where Amy stole for a lime because you needed limes at school to be cool. I was bullied heavily in school for having hand me downs and the Kmart versions of things….This has been a problem way before social media. The bigger question to me is, how do girls learn to be so mean?
My mom bought our clothing at Grant's (sort of like Walmart without the groceries but popular cheap stuff department store in the 1960s) and we only got stuff from Sears or JCPENNEY at Christmas. I didn't know of name branding, Macy's, Abercrombie and Finch or Hammacher Schlemmer until I was in my 20s 😂.
Just discovered your channel. love your energy. You are SO GROUNDED, and give me hope that perhaps they are individuals of a younger generation who do not perpetuate, nor will teach entitlement to the generations that will follow.
Im an Occupational Therapist and work with children. It is appalling how many kids not only are using social media and smart devices at REALLY young ages, but that are ADDICTED to social media and devices. Society is going to get a rude awakening before we wake up to the damage and danger of children using social media and tech devices waaay to young!
This!! And the minimum age restriction on most social media platforms is 13. So this is the parents doing... Either they are lying for their kids, or they are letting their kids lie, about the date of birth they put when signing up for these accounts. I do not understand how so many parents really do not give a sh*t about how this is effecting their children long term. And you don't only see it when it comes to things online either. More and more parents don't want to be active in their kids' schools or extracurricular activities either. My sister had to beg and pled to get other parents just to bring snacks and sometimes help out when she coached my nephews soccer team last year. And she has absolutely no experience with soccer, but had to step up to coach otherwise her son wasn't going to play at all because no other parent would do it. Even the men who had played soccer in HS or whatever couldn't be bothered to help out wirh practices or anything. And she had to finally tell the parents that she wasn't a free babysitter at the practices and games because 95% of the parents would just drop them off and leave, then not show back up in time to pick them up. Why do these people have kids if they really don't want to raise them or even spend time with them? And they use social media as a way to keep their kids busy and out of their hair, but have no regard for regulating the type of content their kids are actually consuming.
My dad , now 75, had a green Stanley thermos back when he worked.... That thing lasted FOREVER.... I mean like his entire career I believe.... Back then only workers used Stanley ... They were thermos's back then.... This whole craziness is bizarre!!! I would never ever wait in line for hours, hurt people, fight over a stupid water cup!!! I can find one I like better for a fraction of the cost..... This is just mind-blowing!!!!
Same here! I've had my insulated green Stanley thermos for decades. I've used it for farmwork and for long backpacking trips. I'm a big fan of the brand for their outdoor gear.
I have one from 7 or so years ago when I worked at a sportsman store, absolutely love that thing. It's my travel thermos! I have my grandfathers from way back as well, but it was his hunting thermos so way too big to bring around for work or a quick drive lol
The video of the mom whose daughter got made fun of for not having a Stanley broke my heart. Unfortunately, that kind of thing has been happening for a long time. When I was a kid it was sneakers. If you didn't have certain brands like Nikes, you were out of it. I still remember being made fun of for my off brand sneakers in school, because we were poor and my mom couldn't afford the big name brand shoes. People need to teach their children that having name brand items does not make you a better person, and that making fun of people who don't have them is wrong.
i feel you, girl. all of my shoes came from payless or walmart. same with my clothes. it's insane to think that some of the kids in my school were wearing $400 worth of name brand shoes, shirts, jeans, and jackets all together. and even with all of that entitlement and privilege, they have the audacity to make others feel worthless over something that will not even fit at the end of the year. :\
I think this is an american thing too.. in THe netherlands kids dont do tis or at least not common at all. When i was in school i never had problems like this and i have been an elemntary teacher for 5 years and i never heard 1 kid saying or even be bothered by brands. Maybe with toys but we had a policy for that, they stayed at home
@@lampjerulez I don't think that Europe is safe either. It might be more up to region or the circles you end up in idk? I'm from a Middleeuropean country and my mom got made fun of by her classmates for wearing fake Converse in the 90s (among other off-brand clothing items). I somehow skipped out on experiences like that but not my significantly younger sister. She ended up in a class where suddenly everyone "needed" to have an Airup bottle and a Fjällräven Backpack and she is generally way more focused on brands than any of my classmates ever were.
25:30: about trends, i get a parent wanting to bully proof kids by buying a Stanley cup & sometimes it's ok if it's too much. but that's just a bandaid to a much bigger issue that society made. Because what happens when it's a competition of things that you can't afford (even Bill Richest people can have things they can't afford), will the kid have to live without friends or stay feeling devalued? - or may be objects affordable but a waste to buy & it changes with trend? Will the answer be to always buy that new trendy thing while you waste the money that could be used for their college funds or something better? -While also teaching kids indirectly that they can only make friends if they own that thing & that object is the value of their friendship & self worth + have no concept of genuine friends? - And while she knows that as an adult, there are many adults that still stay materialistic/it's hard for them to make real friends without showing what they "own" as social proof. - so even if you buy that stanley cup/branded item once so kids don't feel like they can never afford anything. People should use this ocassion to discuss & tell their kids that there's a THIRD kind of person who isn't just poor/a previledged consumer but an environmentally concious & financially smart consumer who could be either previledged or not. - And tell them that it might be you getting judged if you show it off to normal people as not very smart (like so many people are judging stanley holders) for showing it off as it's pointless. - Show them RUclips videos like this, ones from clutterbug (to show much clutter affects us)/minimalists/sustainable/financial channels that explain this if they're of an age that understand it. -there are quiet millionaires that live like normal people. So even if you buy that Tell them stories of people who go broke trying to look rich & people who manage wealth to actually sustain & grow it long term. - but bully proof them if you have to game the system, without breaking their morals, common sense or personality. I got this all as a kid because my parents some what told me + I read moral books but i gamed the system sometimes even though it felt gross. - and you can't wait kids to grow out of it, I know some that still stay materialistic for a lifetime literal 50+ year olds are are judgy materialistic people & you'll find such people your whole life & once you get used to not giving these people an argument, you'll get a habit of to accomodating them & feeling lonely yourself. - And sometimes if it's just a matter of not fitting in & you're not actively getting bullied, it's ok and teach them actual friendship skills to find other friends. Plus teach them actual short logical combat sentences to say once someone says something.

My grandpa would bring his Stanley thermos to work every day as a gravel truck driver. When the Stanley craze started it just confused me, Stanley reminded me of worker men lol

I am teacher from Spain, kids here want water bottles with favourite superheroes or cartoons 🤣 and most of them carry free propaganda bottles from banks, suncream etc. no one cares, this is insane
It really is just the brand association. It doesn't matter how inconvenient your bulky un-sealable 50 dollar cup costs. If it's got the logo on it, it tells people youre trendy and have money. it's like dog whistling for consumerist millenials and nepo teens

It's ridiculous, but of course they want to watch all of these things, as well as RUclips. Thanks so much for this video, because I honestly had no idea why Stanley Cups suddenly became such a thing.
Social media is just peer pressure time 10000×. Worse is, marketing uses that "peer pressure", "scarcity mindset", "feer of missing out" to manipulate and drive sales. Kind of scary how affective it can be.
One of my coworker has been trying to convince me and others to take this class on Love Marketing. She keeps insisting how beneficial it is for a business, which I don’t deny it would be. But the obsession with these types of products is already too off putting for me to even consider taking a class that just sounds like another type of marketing manipulation. It’s one of the reasons I’m been using social media less and less. People really need to get smart before they end up in serious debt over stupid trends like this 🤦🏻♀️

My daughter has been begging for one. She was picked on because a hydroflask. She's 9 yrs old... I told her if people are picking on her because of that, at least they're letting her know they aren't the people she wants to hang out with. A cup is a cup and just because people say it is cool now doesn't mean it's a must have. My dad had one of those "big, ugly green ones" years and years and years ago. It's not a new thing, and just because people say it has value, doesn't make it so.
Why would you not buy it for your daughter if she's being bullied without it? If you can afford it, you should. Her being bullied at such a young age will hurt her for many years and she'll likely need therapy. That is not worth a lesson that you can teach her in many other ways.
But she buys this cup because she's bullies, what happens the next time something big comes out and she's bullied? Does she give in each time? When does it end? Are we suppose to give in or do we get our children for real life, because at 49 I see that grown women are bullying other grown ups because of it. Give in each time? Good job mom. My daughter wanted Balenciaga's and I told her when she got a job she could get what ever she wanted. She's 20, still no Balenciaga's.
@@ferelithianno there are other ways to make her school or classmates stop bullying. Don't teach your child to be a FOMO victim who will suffer in her later life mentally and emotionally. Immediate gratification is very unhealthy.
@@ferelithianbecause this is what crumbling under the pressure is. You should not be teaching your kids to be like everyone else, THAT is how you create spoiled children and teach them that they need to have everything that’s popular instead of being themselves and enjoying what they already have.

I saw a video yesterday of a little girl (maybe 10, wearing uggs) assaulting an adult woman with her Stanley cup in Ulta for not giving her the last of a product she had found that the little girl wanted.
lol amazing 😆
I can only imagine! My 6 year old goes to school with a plastic flip cap straw bottle from the dollar store that barely holds 12oz.

At this point I'm surprised Stanley haven't started a MLM scheme to join so consumers can get their "limited edition prints & colors"
As a European I cannot comprehend the insanity of this. How is that even possible? It scares me how people are so easily manipulated over such trival things...😮
Americans🇺🇸🗽
@@TiffanyAllen1784 Teenagers always have something they are obsessed with.
I am naturally pushed away from wanting something if it’s trendy/ so thankful for this trait.
Pick me!
It's a great trait to have. I avoid the trending tab altogether on streaming services and the like as well.
What tends to trend is usually garbage
Honestly if everybody has it then nobody is special😂
Moreover I really laugh at people dwindling their money to capitalistic companies😂
So dumb.
Me too! When the stanleys blew up, I had zero desire to buy one because it was trendy and I think $40 for a cup is insane
Don’t own one. Don’t want one, don’t need one.
Fitting into a car cup holder is a nice feature (though that design is being adopted by others now)
But the thing is my current water bottle works just fine and I don't need a new one. I doubt the people getting into fistfights over the trendy color ways are in that dire a need of a reliable water bottle
I have one. I wanted one for a long while and my boyfriend finally got it for me a few weeks ago. I have to say I love it!
will keep the $40 target bottle i have as it keeps my water cold before that i had one from 5below
As a thrift store shopper I just laugh and say "see you in 2 years Stanley" right next to the Swell bottles, Yetis and Hatchimals.
I did the same thing with Rae Dunn, that stuff is allllll up in my thrift stores now
But the Yetis are good product and I really do not think to many people are getting rid of $400.00 cooler in droves if they are someone who really needs it. It is nice when car camping not to have to get ice everyday since the ice last 3 time longer in them then the regular cooler. If you are 100 miles from ice, you want it to last as long as possible.
Hahah yes found a hydro flask yesterday 😂
I bought a Swell bottle on employee discount when I was working retail at 22, and I still have it now at 32! The idea of buying more than one is so weird to me - the whole reason I like it because it's still in great shape 10 years later . . . like, that's the point!

If I were a parent, & I found this out, I would give the cup to the victim & make my kid apologise.
In an utopian world...
Most parents in America now are just as bad as the kids.

My friend got bullied for having 4 stripes on her trousers instead of the Adidas 3 stripes
Smart mom, tbh, if you can save while buying quality but not brand name stuff, then it's amazing.
Same! 5th grade in the early 2000s and was already getting bullied for wearing JCPenny instead of Hollister (looking back, why did their parents let them shop there at such a young age???)
Your mom was a smart woman!

Love this sooo much
My daughter did the same! Once they start earning their own money the thrift look is just fine😊
Good job mom! I wanted a new cell phone in high school u saved my money for it
This is great!

As an Asian, same. I never thought I'd have to live to see a day where people are obsessed over a freaking cup but here we are.

True
poor kiddos😢
Kids experience peer pressure and are judged harshly for their belongings and what they wear to school, etc. Homeschool could teach them that these petty things don't matter.
@believestthouthis7 homeschool many times missed the part of socialising and growing over these things in society. It doesn't matter, but it's up to the kid to develop skills to realise it does not matter. That takes time, like... until you are an adult you cannot get over that egocentrism natural from teenagerhood.

Some of the problems with the school systems are that it forces children to endure bullying and to be influenced negatively by their peers.

I can't imagine what they would think of this cup phenomenon.
So glad you're covering this, i love the mlm content and am enjoying the new subjects you're also covering.
I love that you said this. Perspective is so very needed in the age of consumerism.
Exactly my first thought when this CRAZE started. Gangs all over the world are controlling where citizens in the country can get clean water; people are dying from lack OF access to clean water...and we have THIS going in America...
Well said.
I think it’s 2/5 of the world population that don’t have drinkable, clean water. I get buying a cup you like but acting like it’s life or death if you get one is so stupid!
My thoughts exactly!
My daughter came home asking for one. I don't have one, but there are other girls in her SECOND grade class that have them. I pointed out that they leak and can't be thrown in her backpack and that her water bottle (super thin and rectangular like a notebook) was unique and special. She hasn't asked again.
How wide is her water bottle? That sounds cool
2nd grade? Damn the bottle is bigger than they are
the cups and the joy on the kids' face shows how innocent kids are even today they wanna twin with their friends and be part of a crowd
we were this excited for loom bands, friendship bracelets, silly bands, gameboys, nintendos, and so much else damn

The more I hear about school the better I feel about choosing to homeschool my kids.

The whole pastel leaking cup trend cracks me up because I grew up with Stanley, but the OG. Pretty. 😐

In the end everyone fell in love with the thrift store clothes her mom bought her. That is one of the few episodes I still remember because of how much it impacted me and the message stuck.
That show was a true gem
As a European first time I heard of them is when a woman's car caught on fire and only the Stanley cup survived and then the Stanley creator firm decided to buy this lady a new car for her amazing commerical for their product. And now it's just pure insanity. So weird.
im from Austria.. I also saw the same report about it.. never saw anything about stanley before, or after.. crazy world.
Wow. That is so disturbing.
I'm American and the first time I heard of them was that car video.
so here in Brasil ive seen it but mostly a different cup, is more for beer but most people don't use it and if they have its a fake.
Oh, that's kinda cool.
Needless over consumption is killing the planet. That is why.
I just bought that iconic NYC corner coffee stand blue disposable cup but in mug form, so happy with it (:
Right? Why are you hanging your keys and snacks and whatnot from your cup? How is that more convenient than a bag?

Yeah that's soooo sad 😢
Yeah I don't think I've ever felt that way abt "needing" something to be cool

That’s horrifying!
That’s horrible!! I hope the poor girl will make a full recovery and that her family wins the lawsuit.
I actually said to my daughter jokingly that the only benefit of having a Stanley cup was that it would make a great weapon in a dark alley . That story is so sad.
@@foreveryoung2685 it's one of the best districts in the area. These kids are just ridiculous now.
I saw the story on my newsfeed and thought, ‘Wow that’s an awesome cup, I wonder how much it is?’ I then found out the HUGE hype around it and immediately lost interest 😅
that video was fake!! the stanley’s do melt another youtuber tested it out! definitely a scam to sell more to begin with unfortunately.
My husband just mentioned the car and the cup. I had no idea. 🤷🏻♀️
I saw that video (also from the UK) then saw the size of the thing and thought, nope.
They actually sell it in John Lewis now! I was shocked at the 49£ for a freaking cup LOL
That has to be the most inconvenient thing to be carrying around.
Right!? Not spill proof. Why!?
You're so right. I have a 30 ounce Stanley and it's still heavy to lug around. I keep it at home or in the car for the most part.
My hope is that they do not end up in the trash but are donated or given to someone.
The accessories for a cup are so bizarre!
Childfree happily.

,The US-American society is in most parts so drilled into consumerism. it is baffling to everyone outside the USA to watch the whole country scrambling to follow every trend that pops up.
The usa is obsessed with water bottles for some reason, the popular one in my country is the tupperware one and is mostly among women but they don´t have colections of them, most people just reuse the normal plastic bottles

The European market share for Stanley is massive.

I have a lot of good memories :)

I feel like thats gotta be their environment right? Other kids and their parents reacting like that over the same things so it teaches them thats a normal reaction to that desire, right? I dont think i could expose my kid to any type of social media until she was much older

And that water has to be rationed between drinking, cooking, and washing. People are literally dying when they can't get it. We should be ashamed of behaving this way and even hurting one another over something so unnecessary and shallow.

Okay but that has absolutely no point here. The plate you can't finish will not be sent to starving children in Africa. The water we save over here will not be sent to another part of the world.
They are way to young to be given these incredibly complex devices

I can find one I like better for a fraction of the cost..... This is just mind-blowing!!!!
Same here! I've had my insulated green Stanley thermos for decades. I've used it for farmwork and for long backpacking trips. I'm a big fan of the brand for their outdoor gear.
My 71 year old dad still has his!
I have one from 7 or so years ago when I worked at a sportsman store, absolutely love that thing. It's my travel thermos! I have my grandfathers from way back as well, but it was his hunting thermos so way too big to bring around for work or a quick drive lol
I inherited some from my grandfather that I still use when we go on vacation.
And back then, they were made in the US by well paid workers. Now, it's just name branded Chinese crap.
If people cared this much about each other or healthcare or food or safe shelter we’d be in a completely different and much better world!
Hmmm. Agree with you but I'd wager a bet that there's luxury items that you buy that I don't. Same for me.
@@michelleprieur1 And? Buying a luxury product is one thing, freaking over and yelling like a lunatic is another. Hell, even period pads are considered a luxury product in the UK.
Btw, whataboutism is never a counterargument.
@@michelleprieur1 and your point? 🙄
@@michelleprieur1 Well said!
21:52 The brother's comment, "A water bottle." You can just feel the eye roll 🙄😆
Yup 😂😂😂
The most reasonable human from that Family
I mean.. he has a rock collection. So uk who is the cool one 👀 (ps: I have a rock collection too)
Currently living under a rock. I abstain from most social media pages and I see for good reason. These videos both help me to be informed about the trends and things that are going on, while simultaneously reminding me that I'm hot missing anything. I really enjoy the videos I have watched of yours. They are well rounded, entertaining and very thorough. Keep up the great work.
My grandpa would bring his Stanley thermos to work every day as a gravel truck driver. When the Stanley craze started it just confused me, Stanley reminded me of worker men lol
Same lol. I have a couple of those old green ones my husband has used in the oilfield.
I remember my dad’s beat up old army green Stanley thermos that he would take to work every morning in the early 90’s. I have only bought one Stanley in my life and it was the army green thermos that looked just like my dads, which I bought for my husband.
My Dad had one for work also. My husband and I have a couple of the old ones for taking talking hot water with us on long drives so we can have a cup of tea lol
My father in law has one he would use for work lol nuts how easily we can be influenced by people we don’t even know. 😂
My dad still has his green Stanley thermos. I'm almost certain it's older than I am.
I am teacher from Spain, kids here want water bottles with favourite superheroes or cartoons 🤣 and most of them carry free propaganda bottles from banks, suncream etc. no one cares, this is insane
This is how it should be.
That’s why I love living in Europe 😅
aka normal people
I'm a mom from Poland. My 10-year old carries old soda bottle - it works just fine.
In Italy too 😂
I can’t imagine spending $40+ on a cup that LEAKS. That’s like buying designer jeans that have holes in the pockets, it just doesn’t make sense.
It really is just the brand association. It doesn't matter how inconvenient your bulky un-sealable 50 dollar cup costs. If it's got the logo on it, it tells people youre trendy and have money. it's like dog whistling for consumerist millenials and nepo teens
For real.
WHAT??? They even leak??? Oh my god. WHY do people give children bottles that leak???
Have you seen Balenciaga fashion lately?
For us in Europe is 110e
Oh my gosh, there are SO many kids at least watching tiktok and instagram, as well as Facebook. And sometimes they're just picking it up from their parents. It's ridiculous, but of course they want to watch all of these things, as well as RUclips. Thanks so much for this video, because I honestly had no idea why Stanley Cups suddenly became such a thing.
Pointless consumerism actually IS hurting somebody.
THIS. Absolutely. I can't STAND this "as long as you enjoy it good for you" thinking.
All this unnecessary stuff ends up in land fill.
@@molybdomancer195 at least these are well made and have a lifetime guarantee so unlike plastic cups they hopefully will get passed along.
People really need to get smart before they end up in serious debt over stupid trends like this 🤦🏻♀️
Social media has bothered me for years! I don't understand any of it. Didn't we grow out of peer pressure when we graduated from highschool?
You'd think so 😂
OMG that's EXACTLY how I feel! I'm thinking OMG these are women in their 30's-40's falling for trends like 15 year olds! It's PATHETIC! 😂 Just like expensive designer purses and shoes and other crap, it's all so stupid!
And yet, you're here on it...😅
@@michelleprieur1most of us don't consider RUclips, rumble etc as social media. Most of us don't have any personal info on these sites, no friends, family or followers. We use it in place of a TV, but can chat about our 'shows' like if you're watching with friends.
It's very different from what we consider 'social media' though technically it is
@@Samantha360 Who's we? I'm not trying to be hateful but you don't speak for anyone else. RUclips is absolutely part of social media. You all can do whatever you want but the hypocrisy is getting old.
My parents' policy was if there was something that I wanted that was not a basic need- like this, I had to save for it. I could make money by by doing extra chores around the house. It taught me the value of working for the things I want and saving for it. If I have kids one day I would apply this same policy
The fact that people feel they need 1 is troubling. I'm glad I live under a rock.
Teach your child to be resilient and be content for what she has or go to school and talk to the school teacher from bullying other students just because of this stupid cup.
My daughter wanted one because everyone at her school has one. I bought her one because I dont want my daughter got left out by the pack. Kids are kids, they don’t understand what we adults understand. I still tell her whats right whats wrong, but for the sake of thinking she might get bullied at school because of a damn cup, I bought her a cup.
Ughhhhhh, I FELT those little girls' reactions on a core level. For me those kinds of coveted gifts symbolized the hope that the "cool girls" would see me as one of them... never worked!
So true. Buy the right shoes, jeans, makeup, cups, hair accessory- it will never be enough for them to like you. Never. They just use those things to justify not liking you and it sucks so hard. 😢
Hannah this was such a great episode. It speaks to the need for people to “fit in” to society to be accepted instead of allowing uniqueness and individuality. I am so glad I grew up when I did, before influencers told me what I “Should or need” to do to be acceptable.
Love your work, you have logic and common sense so more power to you.
I remember being the poor kid in school with the “fake” Adidas and cheap clothes and it was rough 😢 I can’t imagine how hard it is now when all the kids have social media.
Take heart. I was the other extreme in that my parents bought expensive brands that the other kids didn't even know existed and so I got teased for having stuff that was different. 😆
Atleast you didn't get to wear Abibas😊
@@le13579 what a difficult life
Same, I feel really bad for all the teenagers and children out there that have to deal with the current social media advertisements
@@haz0816 Not at all. Point being that having stuff doesn't save you.
22:45 I died laughing when the brother goes “a rock collection” to his gift but also while the sister is freaking out, the brother says “oh cool, a water bottle” 😂😂 I LOVE THAT KID
My man has his priorities. Rock collections (pun absolutely intended) rock.
@@CraftingGummi that pun was just sexy
Popular Influencers don’t pay for it. They get it for free. Thus they can afford it in every single colours.
