Stephen’s childlike, innocent, unadulterated, unironic glee and happiness at this is absolutely adorable.
All those years of show business and monologues melting away, and you see Stephen's inner nerd peer out in childlike wonder as his eyes begin to sparkle...I KNEW it, I KNEW there was a comrade in there!
Inner nerd nothing, any time anything Tolkien comes up he will just explode with trivia and knowledge at the conversation.

Mr. Mercer is such a good DM. I'm not a Stephen Colbert fan, but he seems to be having such a good time and I always enjoy when people experience glee in pursuit of a good cause.
Glee is such a perfect word for it. You can tell that he could just burst with how much fun he's having.
Personally I can't stand Colbert. Just not a funny man, But I'll sit at the table with anyone and roll dice with them. D&D brings so many people together in a spirit of adventure and storytelling.

Having the legend Matt Mercer himself as your first DM after a 30 year hiatus from D&D is like winning the jackpot - Getting the currently best and most iconic DM IMO in the world to reintroduce you to the game must be a dream come true...
Stephen doesn't even know how lucky he really are - what an absolute privilege.
I mean, Mercer is basically D&D royalty by now.

I absolutely adore how Matt does the descriptions for low-rolls sometimes. Instead of going into a formal description of what an item is after a relatively failed roll, he just goes "Those are bones! Something died! And those bones were in them!"

Even years later, I still can’t get enough of Stephen’s near constant look of absolute delight and wonder throughout the entire game.

How long do you think before Mercer is a guest on the Late Show now that they're making an animated show, the D&D movie is coming out, and the highest paid channel on twitch. Matt, Joe Manginello, and Steven all talking D&D in front of an audience that has no fucking idea what is going on.
It's the last part that I'd watch it for. Looking an audience trying to figure out when to laugh and when to shut up cause they're serious is hilarious. They're always serious tho.

Update ,I'm 16 almost 17, now still playing and Dm'ing I am thinking of writing a book with my 2 nerd friends this game is full of creative outlets and I'm so happy I still have a group to play with

Nah. Three works pretty well.
A one player game can actually be pretty interesting. A very different feel, with it's pros and cons. I've heard some people say that they prefer a 1 player game because it can be more narrative
I played a session the other day where we were 2 players the first 2 hours and then joined by a 3rd later. It worked quite well. despite the fact that I'm fairly inexperienced, we had great fun ☺️
I prefer 4 players and 1 DM.
Yeah but when they only have 40 minutes with him, and in New York where the CR cast doesn’t live, this is a good tradeoff. A 40 minute session with 3 other players would mean Colbert only gets to take up 10 minutes of time.
Matthew Mercer is the most amazing DM I have ever come across holy! I would never have let DnD slide from my life if I had a DM like him - Wow!

Honestly my DnD dream is to give my first campaign (once it is done, since I only made a template so I know what it all leads to but keep most of it open untill it actually springs around in the campaign as to make it more malleable since it's my very first campaign ever) to Matt and have him give me some feedback.
If you want a little advice from someone who did the exact same thing you seem to be doing, stick with just the template so you have some idea of the overall story and can figure out how to wrangle it back on course after your PCs decide to go in an entirely different direction and flesh out the story 2/3 sessions in advance based exclusively on what they do. Unless you're going to railroad your players to a degree, you might never need most of the story you came up with if you do it in advance
