@@Jagnole101 and I get that. I try to raise our daughters with the confidence, they'll take care of themselves. But be ready when they slip up. So far so good. Swimming in the open sea is one of those things that is scary but not very dangerous.
Don’t worry, orcas have never cause major damage or killed someone. (Unless it’s a captive orca which is deprived of everything important to them, looking at you seaworld).
I read up on some stories of orcas terrorizing boaters off the coast of Spain. They're very smart and powerful creatures, so maybe they were up to something. Anything is possible. The main article I was reading stated that the behavior they were displaying was incredibly rare.
Everyone's in North America is always talking about how scary wolves are and its the same as what u say about orcas. There's never been a recorded case of a healthy wolf killing a human in North America. Only captive or perhaps rabid individuals. Yet anyone u talk to talks about how dangerous they are. A lot of em are killed off because of that. Coyotes are more of a threat.
That's just because we don't really swim in the same areas they frequent. Don't assume that since it hasn't happened in record that it cant or will not. Captive or not swimming with orcas everyday like sea world got people eaten if they swam with them in the wild that much i would bet people would get eaten. They eat every other single animal it comes across even Fucking moose so it could eat people we just don't really swim in cold water.
@@jaybabe7767 The only reason they kill people at places like Seaworld is because humans are the reason they couldn’t have a meaningful life and orcas need a water source as big as the ocean and an orca living in that pool is just like a human living in a bathtub and never leaving it. So its understandable why captive orcas completely loose all their sanity and kill people.

There is a video where an orca starts pushing a coastal swimmer towards the shore thinking he must have washed out and is swimming to get back. The coastal swimmer keeps swimming parallel to the shore and eventually, the orca realises he doesn't want to get to the shore and stops trying the help. It's pretty incredible to see. That is way beyond just leaving humans as we are not their prey food. He recognises we live on shore and tries to return him.
That wasn’t friendly behavior actually. This is the problem with anamorphizing animal behavior. That’s actually something they do as a display of aggression and being territorial
@@fiberpoet6250 - What utter nonsense. Why would saying an Orca nudged a human towards land be anamorphizing it when such behaviour has been observed globally in dolphins? As for the video, I saw it on a British natural history programme and it was an expert that explained what he believed the animal was doing. If it was "aggressive" or "territorial" it wouldn't be softly nudging him when it is capable of pushing, dragging or killing him. The expert also said that any interactions are incredibly rare so how can you claim it is "something they do"? He said they are curious but usually just check people and move on without any physical interactions in the wild. Orca’s are highly intelligent and sensitive animals. They understand we are of a different species than what they encounter in the seas. They could sense the fear in the children so they swam by them. Usually they’ll hang around observing us and what we’re doing. Often, these amazing animals are misunderstood. The lack of concern from those filming this is more frightening than the orca’s 😮
It never ceases to amaze me how an apex predator that is capable of eating a white shark for lunch hardly ever attacks humans (in the wild). This coexistence the orcas seem to have with us makes the animal that much more endearing to me.
When you're hunted to extinction by a scarcely available food source, only to be then left alone with a few members of your species left, anything will learn not to be aggressive to a human.
I was reading that a lot of that had to do with them being trained/taught about what’s edible from an early age; it’s a part of their culture, and as highly intelligent, social animals, they’re very committed to what they learn from members of their pods. Like the Southern Residents of the PNW who only eat fish (and almost exclusively a single type of salmon), and are starving because of it…yet in the same ecosystem they inhabit, there are an over-abundance of seals that a different ecotype of orcas are eating/flourishing on. It’s strange to us as humans, I guess…why wouldn’t you eat anything that’s available?? But that’s not they’re way. They’re fascinating creatures!
Was treated to a family of orca’s whilst out free diving in HawkesBay with my father and uncle was awesome, they were only meters from us and weren’t to worried about us they were hunting stingrays that were all about us was cool to watch them in action in the wild a once in lifetime experience!
Yep , I bet! Humans are not high on the food lists of other animals. An animal may taste us but mostly they don’t know what we are unless they had a taste and liked it. They rather stick to what they normally eat. We are to them what eating an eagle or vulture is to us. We know we can but it would be odd or very unusual.
Orca #1 "Let's go fu*k up some boat rudders!" Ocra #2 "Bet... Hey watch out, someone left their kids out again. Be careful." Orca #1 "I see em, they're loud AF!"
Knowing in our logical mind they won't hurt us. But the other part of mind still poops itsrlf just cause they are so big and capable of completely messing up ur day. Beautiful and also very exhilarating experience for sure.

Except for the surfer who was bitten by an orca and needed 100 stitches lol
So you are just doing the common American behaviour of talking bilge online to try and feel superior. Congratulation you are an annoying American and like the other 330 million Americans, you cannot just read a pleasant enough comment without trying to be a prick about it.

@@kugangles9860 Except polar bears and a few others. Somehow.
Anyone who’s slightly educated about orcas know they’ve never attacked humans. There’s actually multiple reports of orcas protecting humans from sea predators. Dolphins do the same thing. Orcas are dolphins aswell tho
Because orcas don’t attack humans lol
@GODofFUCK maybe they’re picky eaters lol, I don’t think I would want to eat an orca or anything that comes from the sea. But, we’re not on their food chain so it’s a win ig
I love Orcas 🥰
