Diana Herron.. So am I, from YYJ also am going down to the Gorge waterway today..July 1st. Anyway, last year I was fishing from the end of Ogden Point breakwater. Several whalewatching boats departed the harbour with guests who have spent $$ to go out and see Orcas. Just after the last boat left a small pod of Orcas came from INSIDE the harbour passing in front of me no further or farther than 30' from the end of the breakwater. Where they had been hiding, I don't know, maybe looking around down by the Customs dock or the restaurant at the beach end.We all got a laugh at that and the encounter cost us nothing. No fishing now with all the closures.Cheers from View Royal.
What gorgeous footage . Such a beautiful area showing the grace and charm of these clever creatures as they carefully play with those people. Stunning!
NZ again, NZ orcas keep surprising those who love them, I love how they react to people,so lovely ! This is the natural behaviour not staged like captive ones. Orca should be free like this. Thanks for sharing, New Zealander are friendly to Orca unlike some places orcas are starving.. thank you new Zealander, you are awesome people!
New Zealand protects their Orca closely. They're very sacred to New Zealand. Unfortunately, in the US, the Southern Resident Orcas are starving due to 4 dams on the snake river. The dams are holding back the King Salmon they need. It isn't due to what happened around Japan. Orca around Japan would have died years ago if that was the case.
How beautifully majestic and intelligent orcas are. They have always been my favorite animal. ❤❤❤ This video made me soooo happy. Thank you for sharing!!!! How lucky those humans are to have witnessed that and seen them in real life. I hope they treasure that experience forever. ❤❤❤
For the people who don’t really know much about orcas: The orcas turn on their back to see what’s above them easier (well that’s what I learned) It can also mean that it was friendly and wanted to play
I believe they were being curios and friendly, but what it would feel like to have a wild animal that big just a few feet away from you in the water? I imagine it would have a been a crazy combo of excitement, joy, fear and awe. Would have been interesting to see that person's heart rate during the encounter.
What I've learnt by listening to experts who study these mammals is if they show their stomach to you like she did when approaching the paddle boarder that it is a form of non threatening communication. They are big on body language.
Orcas, the Guardians of the Ocean. It looks so inviting to jump in and have fun with them it would be hard to stay out of the water... But never force an encounter, let them take the first step.
Good way to cash in on the life insurance policy (grin) He was safe, Orcas don't eat humans nor has there ever been a case of an Orca attacking a human in the wild (so far)
I am truly amazed how Orca's choose not to attack humans considering they we would be such easy prey for them and how ferocious they are with seals, dolphins, whales and sharks. It's like we have some hidden bond with them. They're so smart!
Did anyone notice when is he was pulled by the boat, that the orca was swimming upside down towards him. That is beautifully incredible. This creatures continuously fascinate the human eye
When playing Orca will swim upside down and flash their white belly bits it's an amazing thing to see and funny as hell when they sneak up on unsuspecting swimmers, free divers / kayakers and scare them shitless with one massive WHOOOOSH of air then whilst the humans are still having a coronary you'll see the Orca swimming just a few feet by the side or back and forth underneath them flashing their white belly bits and giving it “Just playin Bro...Just screwing with ya look see - white belly bits” NZ Orca are unique though they have always been protected and highly revered so their relationship with humans has never been fraught with the same issues of caution, distrust and uncertainty. It's an amazing, really special relationship.
I cringed every time one of those magnificent creatures came close to the propellers. So often damage is done to marine life this way. Better to turn off the motors and bask in the experience
Their sonar is so good that if you are in the water they can 'see' your heart beating. They are well aware of the propeller but accidents can happen and the disturbance created by the prop may make a lot of noise and seem like fog as to us.
Yeah, this just happened to a Dolphin at the Jersey Shore that got sliced up by boat propellers, and then right after that 4 sharks ate it alive. It was so disturbing and sad.
Their underside of the lower jaw is how whales feel the sonar reflections. When they want to closely 'look' at something they will roll their underside toward the object.
Wayne When he grabbed it I was wondering if they were going to tow him or not. When they did I thought, "OK, you just turned him into a fishing lure!", lol.
i went to iceland a few years ago and saw about 20 fully grown orcas n babies on the north side of the island. They hung out with us for an hour plus. it was amazing. if you get a chance, go! :D
Sonar requires good hearing, stick their head out of the water and they may hear it if low enough and see it's shadow and figure it out. They see bird shadows and the young will jump at slow low flyers and floaters. Seagulls always follow to eat scraps.
As someone who unknowingly patronized Sea World in my youth, I am terribly regretful of having contributed to a barbaric practice of "caging" and captivating these truly magnificent animals. Those who were part and parcel to that system will have a long time to repent for their sins.

Then, the family is allowed to check out the human...other pod members lingering at the periphery... What a thrill!
I am from Victoria BC so I have watched Orcas most of my life.... but this video is absolutely mind blowing! So amazing!!! I think I watched the first minute with my mouth open in awe.
@@rogerdickinson920 I love stories like yours! I miss Victoria and the ocean every single day.
@@rogerdickinson920 lol
I would’ve told the boat to leave & come back so I could hang out with the Orca! They won’t hurt us, the are playful & smart! Great video!
You don't know anything about them
Incredible, what a gift to see this.
They are just so intelligent, and absolutely awesome.
Beautiful!!! Most people will never get to experience such a wonderful moment as this. ❤️
And this one was scared shitless. What a waste
Absolutely fantastic. These Whales are very intelligent and sensitive.
They are actually dolphins.
@@djjnonya2170Which are all whales. So they are whales.
For the people who don’t really know much about orcas:
The orcas turn on their back to see what’s above them easier (well that’s what I learned)
It can also mean that it was friendly and wanted to play
I believe they were being curios and friendly, but what it would feel like to have a wild animal that big just a few feet away from you in the water? I imagine it would have a been a crazy combo of excitement, joy, fear and awe. Would have been interesting to see that person's heart rate during the encounter.
This is some awesome drone footage
Thank you
@@TopviewNz which drone did you use to capture the footage? Did you have it set to follow, or were flying it manually?
Such beautiful, intelligent creatures!
Awesome! We’re not the only ones that enjoy the calm, beautiful outdoors. We all like to just ‘chillax” with friends and family.
I love how he followed him like "oh we are racing now"
What I've learnt by listening to experts who study these mammals is if they show their stomach to you like she did when approaching the paddle boarder that it is a form of non threatening communication. They are big on body language.
Mannnnn, I'm so jealous! That is a moment of a lifetime. The baby orca is really curious and wants to play, lol.
The most beautiful sea creature
I dunno it's hard to pass up a cool platypus.
Awww..it's a baby orca! Blowing bubbles looking for a playmate. Honestly, what an invitation!
Orcas, the Guardians of the Ocean.
It looks so inviting to jump in and have fun with them it would be hard to stay out of the water...
But never force an encounter, let them take the first step.
They are so lucky to be able to swim and be so close to these beautiful magnificent and intelligent creatures
I would’ve stayed there all day, how amazing.
The human fishing lure.
Yeah, damn that. What a way to go. Fish food.
Get a brain
Good way to cash in on the life insurance policy (grin) He was safe, Orcas don't eat humans nor has there ever been a case of an Orca attacking a human in the wild (so far)
Lol, yup
@@marilynalvarez9951 My grampa would argue that point, lol.
Love orcas. One of the smartest most majestic creatures on earth.
Orcas are just big dolphins with a fancy paint job.
I am truly amazed how Orca's choose not to attack humans considering they we would be such easy prey for them and how ferocious they are with seals, dolphins, whales and sharks. It's like we have some hidden bond with them. They're so smart!
Not enough meat compared to their usual prey.
Did anyone notice when is he was pulled by the boat, that the orca was swimming upside down towards him. That is beautifully incredible. This creatures continuously fascinate the human eye
When playing Orca will swim upside down and flash their white belly bits it's an amazing thing to see and funny as hell when they sneak up on unsuspecting swimmers, free divers / kayakers and scare them shitless with one massive WHOOOOSH of air then whilst the humans are still having a coronary you'll see the Orca swimming just a few feet by the side or back and forth underneath them flashing their white belly bits and giving it “Just playin Bro...Just screwing with ya look see - white belly bits”
NZ Orca are unique though they have always been protected and highly revered so their relationship with humans has never been fraught with the same issues of caution, distrust and uncertainty.
It's an amazing, really special relationship.
@@CharlotteWeb100 they do that to show friendliness and acceptance. You from NZ.. Dr Visser down there she has done wonders for the Orca.
Oh man, I would LOVE to swim with Orca”s! Magnificent and beautiful animals. They definitely belong in the open ocean.
They are so friendly and curious.
How nice to have the chance (and courage) to swimm with such large and beautiful creatures. Enjoy
Luna the Orca that lost his herd was killed by a propeller. It's on YT and it's sad but also heartwarming.
My thoughts too.
Yeah, this just happened to a Dolphin at the Jersey Shore that got sliced up by boat propellers, and then right after that 4 sharks ate it alive. It was so disturbing and sad.
@@alexatameron8898 That certainly is disturbing, but the nature part is . . . well . . . natural, and sharks often do eat their food while its alive.
OMG .... I was holding my breath and heart almost stopped for a min ... lol. Wow
Yup🤦🏾♀️
The little one was under his board the whole time . When they flip on their backs it means they trust you. They were protecting this person.
exactly.
Showing your belly is a sign of peaceful intentions. The orca shows the person it’s belly. As if to say hey it’s cool.
Подныривают аккуратненько чтобы не задеть плавничками! Аж до слёз!
Amazing how one swish of their tail propels their huge body forward so swiftly.
They are so majestic aren't they?
@@anibellohq9447 Yes they are.
Amazing footage with out words.
or loud annoying music!
Love how they turn belly up to be able to better study what's going on. =)
Their underside of the lower jaw is how whales feel the sonar reflections. When they want to closely 'look' at something they will roll their underside toward the object.
Apparently it's their body language sign saying "hello friend, I am not a threat to you". Wonderful creatures.
Beautiful Orcas.
The person on the knee board must have felt like bait trolling on a fishing line !
New Zealand has the most amazing orcas!
Sure. Drag me like a lure!😂 That adult sped up so quick with maybe 2 swipes of its tail! Amazing!❤
Yeah, that blew me away
I think the Orca wants to make sure the guy sees him and makes the bubbles
It was a female dipshit
no, it´s a warning. like barking.
It's used to disorient prey fish, making their roundup and consumption easier.
@@truthhurts79 is there any need at all for that.
@@ellepant you must be new to the internet dipshit
Orcas and dolphins are literally "water people". I just love them! Incredible footage. Thank you.
Yes. But dolphins don't destroy the rudders by biting them and don't sink the boats by hitting their hull. Quite a difference for a sailor ...
0:57 Kneeboarder: Kick Kick Kick....Get me the DAMN ROPE!
Wayne When he grabbed it I was wondering if they were going to tow him or not. When they did I thought, "OK, you just turned him into a fishing lure!", lol.
@@SMHman666 LOL...Trolling with humans
Orca: wow! it is good!
Orca baby: Mom, can i play with wild human?
Wow. That was more than I expected this to be.
I honestly dream to see the orcas in the wild
i went to iceland a few years ago and saw about 20 fully grown orcas n babies on the north side of the island. They hung out with us for an hour plus. it was amazing. if you get a chance, go! :D
this is absurdly incredible😮😮im just so jealous, so cool
It's funny how the apex predator of the ocean( that eats everything else) doesn't attack humans. Not only that, they show curiosity and playfulness
0:39 "I want a turn! Hmm... I doubt that rope will support me. Too bad."
I feel like the orca is even aware of the drone, at the end! Amazing
Sonar requires good hearing, stick their head out of the water and they may hear it if low enough and see it's shadow and figure it out. They see bird shadows and the young will jump at slow low flyers and floaters. Seagulls always follow to eat scraps.
Hubbie orca: "Come back here, LUNCH!"
Wifey orca: "Darling, don't tease the little monkey."
Staying and hanging out with the Orcas would be a lot more fun than knee boarding.
“ oh, its those creatures again who can’t swim! How cute they are with no fins!”
Cool to see them happy and playful in the wild where they belong. Fuck sea world
As someone who unknowingly patronized Sea World in my youth, I am terribly regretful of having contributed to a barbaric practice of "caging" and captivating these truly magnificent animals. Those who were part and parcel to that system will have a long time to repent for their sins.
That little tail caress at the end by the mother...
Such beautiful creatures and so playful
due to lack of audio, orca's had to get close and use bubbles to communicate.
As the kneeboarder, I would be unjustifiably terrified.
From this perspective, however, I found it adorable. Love the playfulness! 🥰
I would of needed a new swim suit
I have nightmares about things like this while riding my jetski 😂😂
Loved the way that first juvenile was chasing the tow line. it definitely knew the drill. What gets me though is why leave? I would have killed the engines and enjoyed the moment because they do not come along very often!
@@derekfelber743 Do your jetskiing while you're awake. You'll have fewer nightmares. 👍
@@leecowell8165probably just scared, I don't think most people realize that they don't attack humans and just think of them as predators. still, i would rather people react this way than go out of their way to harass them like they do to manatees and other marine mammals.
of all creatures of the sea Orca are my most fav. 😁
mermaids are mine
they play better in the wild than in aquariums
Wow they are such beautiful creatures and so fast. So fortunate to see this footage💚
I love orcas! Beautiful, intelligent, funny, playful, inquisitive, incredible creatures...
0:22 aw, mama purposely blew bubbles to play with her new friend. I would definitely be nervous but I wouldn't be able to pass up a chance to swim with wild orcas, knowing for a fact I wouldn't end up as their lunch. They have a lot of respect for humans, probably in part because they know we save them when they're stranded
Wow. Dream experience come true. I know they don't kill people in the wild, but Id still be shitting myself. Always s first time for everything. Thanks for the video
I would also have been shitting myself! So much so I think I would have walked on water to get back in the boat!
