- Big Beach is getting flooded with huge (for this beach) waves. Waves are washing all the way up to shore. Taken Aug., 30, 2011. The day before also had some unusual wave action.
SO DRAMATIC. YOU CAN SEE THE PEOPLE HAVING FUN.
🤣😂🤣
Yes
Me and my friend, and a lot of people that day, face planted and rolled around and couldn't get out of there!! Because of the pretty steep incline out to the ocean, and it's a long way out there to get past the beakers!! It really IS a fight to get back on shore!!!! Thanks for uploading. I sure do miss Maui.....
I could sit and watch this all day, amazing.
SunDance00 You are fucking useless

@Fuck You chill dude lmao, he just said these waves are bigger than what people think, he didn't say they are gigantic, wtf is wrong with you lmaooo
Yeah I’ve seen those things in person and holy shite
@@itzmason2005 Same... I've been to that beach as well...shore break can get definitely big.
Perfect for free swimmers, little undertow, no cross-beach currents and big waves over a smooth sand bottom. Looks like heaven.
I have been here before! The snorkeling is amazing! There are so many turtles! And the waves are actually massive! You can't really tell because of the filing angle!
Shut up
dear people swimming there. you've got some balls !!!
Meefy94 think you I swam there but the waves were lower that day but still huge
better to be in the water then out, the waves get bigger and break closer to the shore
I surfed here once, the waves are way bigger than you think, these are about 8-12, my dad never went after he dislocated his shoulder taking on the big shore breaks at big beach. It was about 12-16 foot shore breaks on the right side of big beach when he dislocated his shoulder.
So Cool that I found this, as I was watching and recognizing some of the people walking by I realized that I was standing you when you were taping this, I remember trying to be quiet since I hate when people cant keep their mouth shut when you are trying to capture a moment on video, awesome waves for this part of Maui that day !
People don't understand how big of waves these are... Especially for Maui beaches!
Your wrong
North side of Maui has big waves. Big beach seems bad cause they break right on the shore.
Looks so fucking fun

I used to be a pt resident in Maui... You can't tell by this video the power of the waves.
I love that scream as the wave comes in, I've heard it before and it speaks of joy and life and a little bit of fear.
Kept waiting for the dramatic big waves...
We were on the south end of big beach when something like this happened. Kids were running at the waves with boogie boards and riding them to the beach. They seemed to be having a blast but I was standing there worried sick about them.
I swam there as well. The surf may seem benign but it commands respect, even from strong swimmers. The beaches of Maui are beautiful, especially at night.
Is there a situation where the ocean actually moves sand to the shore or does it get less and less sand at the beaches?
Those are huge compared to the ones I saw on the shore in california. They may look normal size from here, but up close they look enormous.
Though it's not dramatic, it sure is hypnotic. I at least can't take my eyes off the waves rolling on the beach building structures in the sand and while flowing back into the ocean impede other waves which try to make their way to the shore.
That's great! Keeps your rear end very clean that way : )
I could stand there for a long time and watch that. It's mesmerizing.
I've been here, the waves tend to come in cycles. Like every 2-3 hours there will be a huge wave that clears the beack
I liked the guy doing yoga at 00:29 getting wrecked hahah
The waves are erratic and yes, can be bigger - this really is about how far the water goes up the shore.
The most exciting 2.49 minutes of my life.
I’ve lived and worked there 30 years ago , when it was only a dirtroad to it. This point of view is of the cliff dividing Big & Little beach . Waves at Big Beach are good for boogieboarding & skimboarding…rarely surfable waves due to huge backlash , Little beach way better break but high surf rare on the Southside. Once after work we hit morning swell bodysurfing , waves pretty bigger than this….came out without shorts ; its like a washingmachine out there . Still MAUI NO KA OI!!❤
Beautiful beach, looks like fun.
Natures way of reclaiming the sand, yet shrinking beaches.
why are there so many dislikes? these waves are pretty decent size ive been to this beach before about 5 years ago. ive had aunties and uncles die at this beach. i myself have been injured from being slammed on the bottom of the beach by the waves. the riptides are strong and there's a sharp drop off about 30 feet away from the shore line. you either ride the rip and go straight in or you get dragged in and sucked under the drop off, picked up and slammed haha thats the worst part.
You haven't been to a beach in 5 years?
its been a while...im hawaiian but i live in Colorado...my family lives on Maui...i just havent been able to make it back there..but I WILL return you can bet on it! ready to be where i belong...
Very soothing sound.
He is on a 30-50ft cliff. The waves are strong and can seriously hurt someone. This was one of the biggest south swell that ever hit since 2005.
Beautiful yet unforgiving
PEOPLE WHEN WATER IS GETTING SUCKED INTO THE OCEAN LIKE THAT, RUN! That means, big ass waves!!
Man, I miss the beach. =(
same
C’est beau. Et c’est bien filmé !! 🤗
yes! There were some big waves happening yesterday too.
I spent a month on this beach in 2003. The first day, I had a wall slap me up that beach like a rag doll. In 2018 I went back, and while snorkeling, a rouge wave smeared the couple with us 15 feet up the beach in quick 3 waves.
Where was this filmed those waves r huge
we used to stand in water facing the beach :P back to waves like these with friend closed eyes and having fun find our selves landing on the sand :)
Thanks.
been to makena on at least 20 trips over there and this is the biggest i've even seen'em there
why so many dislikes? these waves are huge!
why so many likes? your dick isnt!
?
+Sir_Mercury nvm, just a joke...
+KrazyZeus that was a really shitty joke, like wtf were you trying to say
michaelballergaming HD Sorry, not here to argue.
The sand moves a lot - it's like the ocean scoops the sand away - and I don't have video of that - so much that the rocks are very exposed. And then the ocean can bring the sand back in. The shore line changes A LOT in one year. I don't think there is less and less sand at this beach, but on the North shore, there is lots of erosion.
Man i miss the beach :(
yes, the other side is well-known for body surfing, and there were a lot of people in the water that day.
if you look in the description it says "big for this beach"
So beautiful
awsome this was a day before my bday
When I go to the beach I always look for a wave that is timed with the water going back
Once happened to me too... But there was no sand, but small rocks! xD That's hurtful, believe me :)
I was there a week ago, it looked half as bad, and even then, the parking attendant was going around warning people it was not good for swimming that day.
Stupid question but what causes big waves?
I mean, there are no big waves on lakes are there?
nice video thanks
Been there. Very heavy water. It lives up to its name
thx for explaining
Did they really just say that the "Waves are washing all the way up to shore"?
was this at big beach?
OMG I WAS THERE AT BIG BEACH OMG THE WAVES WERE GARGANTUEOUS
aka giant
I was in Maui about a month later.
This was taken on my 13th b-day
little kid says DAMN IT the wave ruined my sand castle!
i think at first there were more people swimming inside and at the end only two left?
Where is this
Definitely some strong seismic activity going on.
The shore break there can be nasty. Many people have been injured.
wonderful
When waves start coming up like that, rip tides are sure to follow.
Dramatic...not sure if I will sleep tonight
For all of you guys saying this is not dramatic this guys is on like a 40 foot cliff and if you’ve ever been to bigs you know if it’s breaking at the reef it’s big. Theses waves are probably like 6-10ft. If you are not a very experienced bodyboarder, surfer, or body surfer just don’t go out. It’s that simple if you go out inexperienced you are most likely gonna get hurt by getting slammed into the sand and that would make the lifeguards have to come out and save you so you’re not only putting your life in danger you’re putting the lifeguards life in danger just because “It’s not that big let’s go swimming” Just don’t go out on days like these.
At indonesia when big waves comw livegaurds told swimmers to go on land and sufers are allowed to go into the water
The Rips in that water is staggering! Strong currents that’s for sure!
I Love How That Guy Is Tanning Then A Wave Hits Him :D
The waves looked very scary.
Where a,re u from, Arkansas?
When the tide is that. tumultuous, it's time to get off the beach until tomorrow.
Yes, no doubt.
1:52 ong I died the way this surfer slipped 😂😂😂😂
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH THE SAME BDAY AS ME
waves sooo huge the sand almost gone !!
this vid was made 3 years before i was born
Those waves looks bigger than my future
Ohhhhhh... The drama. Ohhhhh.... My heart....
Great, take pics or video.
I don't understand how people can love beaches with waves, except surfers of course
That's all I thought it would be way better I thought the waves are actually going to be like an OK size
I would love to be there it's not dra ate. It's awesome!
yes, this is the biggest I've ever seen them.
1:53 The dog it's simply an hero!!
The dog surfs a summer wave and beeing at least 50ft above sea level!!
My uncle (not the one with the chiken feet) lives there and has a dog. My uncle‘s name is Kurnt Baskell and he named his dog Relish because he likes relish. He calls this beach “poopy beach“ because every morning he takes Relish for a walk and they both dig a hole in the sand to do their morning crap. Sometimes in the evening too. Byebye!
Maybe it’s just my phobia of water, but when the beach becomes nearly covered in water, I would get off the beach. In my mind, I would be thinking is this a tsunami?
Yes it is
ur birthday is on the 3rd?
So cool!
I hope that dude with the camera lying down on top of the sand bank got some great pictures.
nice Vid.
You never seen Waimea Bay's shore break?
Steep dropoff with strong shore break. Must get some good rip-currents.
Can anyone tell me how big waves r in Florida cuz I'm going there next month
very nice
I am going to Maui next year
Damn those waves
THIS REMINDS LE OF THOS NIGHT MEORS WHERE YOU CANT RUN AWAY OF THE WHATER !!
