Me and my friend, and a lot of people that day, face planted and rolled around and couldn't get out of there!! Because of the pretty steep incline out to the ocean, and it's a long way out there to get past the beakers!! It really IS a fight to get back on shore!!!! Thanks for uploading. I sure do miss Maui.....
I surfed here once, the waves are way bigger than you think, these are about 8-12, my dad never went after he dislocated his shoulder taking on the big shore breaks at big beach. It was about 12-16 foot shore breaks on the right side of big beach when he dislocated his shoulder.
I'm from South Africa and these are normal size waves yes? It looks like those waves are forming a rip tide which means waves crashes and forms an under current pulling you out to sea.
I have been here before! The snorkeling is amazing! There are so many turtles! And the waves are actually massive! You can't really tell because of the filing angle!
I swam there as well. The surf may seem benign but it commands respect, even from strong swimmers. The beaches of Maui are beautiful, especially at night.
why are there so many dislikes? these waves are pretty decent size ive been to this beach before about 5 years ago. ive had aunties and uncles die at this beach. i myself have been injured from being slammed on the bottom of the beach by the waves. the riptides are strong and there's a sharp drop off about 30 feet away from the shore line. you either ride the rip and go straight in or you get dragged in and sucked under the drop off, picked up and slammed haha thats the worst part.
its been a while...im hawaiian but i live in Colorado...my family lives on Maui...i just havent been able to make it back there..but I WILL return you can bet on it! ready to be where i belong...
I’ve lived and worked there 30 years ago , when it was only a dirtroad to it. This point of view is of the cliff dividing Big & Little beach . Waves at Big Beach are good for boogieboarding & skimboarding…rarely surfable waves due to huge backlash , Little beach way better break but high surf rare on the Southside. Once after work we hit morning swell bodysurfing , waves pretty bigger than this….came out without shorts ; its like a washingmachine out there . Still MAUI NO KA OI!!❤
Maybe it’s just my phobia of water, but when the beach becomes nearly covered in water, I would get off the beach. In my mind, I would be thinking is this a tsunami?
My uncle (not the one with the chiken feet) lives there and has a dog. My uncle‘s name is Kurnt Baskell and he named his dog Relish because he likes relish. He calls this beach “poopy beach“ because every morning he takes Relish for a walk and they both dig a hole in the sand to do their morning crap. Sometimes in the evening too. Byebye!
For all of you guys saying this is not dramatic this guys is on like a 40 foot cliff and if you’ve ever been to bigs you know if it’s breaking at the reef it’s big. Theses waves are probably like 6-10ft. If you are not a very experienced bodyboarder, surfer, or body surfer just don’t go out. It’s that simple if you go out inexperienced you are most likely gonna get hurt by getting slammed into the sand and that would make the lifeguards have to come out and save you so you’re not only putting your life in danger you’re putting the lifeguards life in danger just because “It’s not that big let’s go swimming” Just don’t go out on days like these.
We were on the south end of big beach when something like this happened. Kids were running at the waves with boogie boards and riding them to the beach. They seemed to be having a blast but I was standing there worried sick about them.
Its not just the size of the waves here. The shore break at Big Beach is NASTY even in mild waves. Most dangerous beach on the island IMO. So clear and beautiful but one mistake in that danger zone and you’ll end up with broken bones, neck, back. I assure you, that’s the drama. The folks in the water are safer than the people on the beach in that crash zone. Be careful. This beach can end your vacation quickly.
I was there a week ago, it looked half as bad, and even then, the parking attendant was going around warning people it was not good for swimming that day.
Though it's not dramatic, it sure is hypnotic. I at least can't take my eyes off the waves rolling on the beach building structures in the sand and while flowing back into the ocean impede other waves which try to make their way to the shore.
I spent a month on this beach in 2003. The first day, I had a wall slap me up that beach like a rag doll. In 2018 I went back, and while snorkeling, a rouge wave smeared the couple with us 15 feet up the beach in quick 3 waves.
SO DRAMATIC. YOU CAN SEE THE PEOPLE HAVING FUN.
🤣😂🤣
Yes
The laugh your comment gives me almost makes up for the three minutes I'll never get back....
Dramatic no, but these waves are bigger than most of you think.

People don't understand how big of waves these are... Especially for Maui beaches!
Your wrong
North side of Maui has big waves. Big beach seems bad cause they break right on the shore.
Looks so fucking fun

Not all people, but perhaps many...*Best regards!
dear people swimming there. you've got some balls !!!
Meefy94 think you I swam there but the waves were lower that day but still huge
better to be in the water then out, the waves get bigger and break closer to the shore
10 years later😂

watch the Vega Baja Giants Waves in Puerto Rico and tell me if that's normal!
Those things are freaking dangerous! one time it took me like 5 minutes swimming full speed to get out to the beach... was tired and a bit scared!
Happened to me at waimea almost drowned
ThePineapple Safer to change direction. Dont swim to the beach, but swim to the side, until you find a place without current.
I did a double check and the rip looks dangerous fur sure. The waves shouts no kooks or else
I love that scream as the wave comes in, I've heard it before and it speaks of joy and life and a little bit of fear.
I have been here before! The snorkeling is amazing! There are so many turtles! And the waves are actually massive! You can't really tell because of the filing angle!
Shut up

Kept waiting for the dramatic big waves...
yeah , i am waiting....😂

michaelballergaming HD Sorry, not here to argue.
I liked the guy doing yoga at 00:29 getting wrecked hahah
was this at big beach?
Stupid question but what causes big waves?
I mean, there are no big waves on lakes are there?
Did they really just say that the "Waves are washing all the way up to shore"?
❤

Where is this
I used to be a pt resident in Maui... You can't tell by this video the power of the waves.
❤
You never seen Waimea Bay's shore break?
Where are the big waves?
The waves are erratic and yes, can be bigger - this really is about how far the water goes up the shore.
Man, I miss the beach. =(
same
Aww did u see the dog? :)
Perfect for free swimmers, little undertow, no cross-beach currents and big waves over a smooth sand bottom. Looks like heaven.
Untill you get slammed by a wave and break your arm
❤
I've been here, the waves tend to come in cycles. Like every 2-3 hours there will be a huge wave that clears the beack
❤

Body surfing Heaven...Jimmy
i think at first there were more people swimming inside and at the end only two left?
Is there a situation where the ocean actually moves sand to the shore or does it get less and less sand at the beaches?
❤
if you look in the description it says "big for this beach"
nice footage but...next time use more wide lens if u can.and :D.dont move camera all the time
¿And the drama is?
Where is the drama?
You think it could’ve been from the earthquake in Japan?
1:52 ong I died the way this surfer slipped 😂😂😂😂
Can anyone tell me how big waves r in Florida cuz I'm going there next month
"Waves are washing all the way up to shore" Really?
No surfers?
Maybe it’s just my phobia of water, but when the beach becomes nearly covered in water, I would get off the beach. In my mind, I would be thinking is this a tsunami?
The most exciting 2.49 minutes of my life.

Big waves ?
1:53 The dog it's simply an hero!!
The dog surfs a summer wave and beeing at least 50ft above sea level!!

He is on a 30-50ft cliff. The waves are strong and can seriously hurt someone. This was one of the biggest south swell that ever hit since 2005.
Bruh they weren't big we've been to a beach and such waves come.
Tip- Always turn your back when a wave is coming.
OMG I WAS THERE AT BIG BEACH OMG THE WAVES WERE GARGANTUEOUS
aka giant
C’est beau. Et c’est bien filmé !! 🤗

That's great! Keeps your rear end very clean that way : )

Try Nazaré in Portugal....This are for kids....
Those are huge compared to the ones I saw on the shore in california. They may look normal size from here, but up close they look enormous.

What drama?
@ 0:29 .... Hope the prone photographer had a water-proof camera.
And what was so dramatic that it was supposed to take place there? I didn't notice anything!!!

Where is my dramatic footage of big waves???; refund my money
This movie is Bad, where is the big wave?
Makena beach ? Its awesome there but it has the nickname "backbreaker" for a reason.
PEOPLE WHEN WATER IS GETTING SUCKED INTO THE OCEAN LIKE THAT, RUN! That means, big ass waves!!

the camera doesn’t show how big they really are
we used to stand in water facing the beach :P back to waves like these with friend closed eyes and having fun find our selves landing on the sand :)
❤
Where is the drama?????????
Natures way of reclaiming the sand, yet shrinking beaches.
Not too many in the water. Why is that?? I’d looove to be in that water! Completely kills the purpose of even going out to the beach!
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH THE SAME BDAY AS ME
Dramatic?
awsome this was a day before my bday
the sand got wet. drama ?
I don't understand how people can love beaches with waves, except surfers of course

When I go to the beach I always look for a wave that is timed with the water going back
I think people who didn't grow up near the sea can't understand the power waves have, even small ones.

Big waves? Please.
I spent a month on this beach in 2003. The first day, I had a wall slap me up that beach like a rag doll. In 2018 I went back, and while snorkeling, a rouge wave smeared the couple with us 15 feet up the beach in quick 3 waves.
Surfs up on the totally tubular waves, bro! Why the dramatics?
Its big for a shorebreak. Big beach doesn't get this big often.
Those aren't big waves, once I almost drown with a wave that really was big
@0:30 cameraman on the sand hill, oops 🤣
Its not so drimatic, but ive been in maui and i saw a really big wave by hanuaki hotel, probably never heard it before.
I hope that dude with the camera lying down on top of the sand bank got some great pictures.
When waves start coming up like that, rip tides are sure to follow.
❤
dramatic.. 👀
not "dramatic" not "BIG". Boooh! False advertisement!
I was in Maui about a month later.
This was taken on my 13th b-day
This is "all that", nice to go. Be aware, there have been sharks real close to shore as well, just saying.
nice Vid.
Been there. Very heavy water. It lives up to its name
little kid says DAMN IT the wave ruined my sand castle!
