you see, the reason is that jap games are only for japs, instead of ntsc and pal games are for the entire rest of the world, and theyre few every year. that explain the prices of some ass resellers going crazy on ebay
I live in italy and i think we have the most expensive prices on videogames, especially on retrogames, in Europe at least, its surprising to know there are other countries which have high prices on videogames as well
as someone who is trying to revive their snes and n64 collection, this depresses me as everything is too overpriced due to all the hipster trash that hoard and gouge old games. Told some of the younger guys to not waste their money unless they already had a good collection of games to start with and just stick with roms.
That’s the problem with the old gaming scene in the USA. People just want to gobble up every single “popular” game they can get their grubby hands on and add to their collection. Dries up the market and allows resellers to thrive.
@@MyGodzilla99as a collector not all resellers are bad it’s different if they have a store or actually are decent people and give some good deals but the ones that have to squeeze every single penny out of something and not just give someone a decent deal when they paid nothing for it who sell out of a garage on Facebook marketplace and other places are scumbags
I feel like the japanese take really good care of their things. All those games are so nice and clean looking, and theres so many of them. If you find a SNES game at a thrift store in america it looks worn, and someone probably wrote their name on it with permanent marker
I thought the same thing. A lot of nasty, yellowed consoles and games in the US. I used to also hate buying a used game to discover someone had wrote their stupid name on it.
Mean in the US in most the games would be behind glass or hidden and only empty cases to show they are forsale. Sadly all them games being out in the open wouldn't fly in 90% of America and in the towns that do there are always people from other places that come in and ruin it.
Goes to show what damage Wata Games, heritage auction and pawn stars have done to the American and European video game “market” . It’s very nice to see the Japanese market wasn’t affected much! Hellos from California too!

Absolutely awesome video. I love all of your videos, and seeing the inside of stores I'll probably never get to visit is always great to watch. Thanks so much for spending so much time making these videos for us.
You are so lucky having a store selling retro video games in such a good condition! In Greece, most of the retro video games are more expensive and a bit damaged
I love Bookoff and Hardoff. The problem with selling Japanese retro games overseas is that they won't work in PAL systems (Europe, Australia, most of rest of the world) because they're designed to work on NTSC systems. They will likely work in American NTSC systems, but then you also have the Japanese language barrier to play JRPGs. Second hand Japanese items are usually in immaculate condition because the Japanese really look after their things.
Cool video! Thanks for uploading. I think at @13:29, those were the saved games from the previous owner. In slot 2, they competed 80% of the game, for example. To start a new game you would erase one of the three slots (or erase them all if you want) I believe.
It's a shame how these games are so cheap at thrift shops in Japan, but cost you around $40-$50+ up to hundreds to thousands of dollars in the US. smh.
I loved going through Hard Off and Book Off when I lived in Japan. "Hard Off" is hilarious to English speakers by the way :) I wish we had Fire Emblem on NES in America, I love it now!
I have been watching this guys vids the past few days now. I like the channel, plus I get to experience different cultures and the things that they enjoy. Its good to keep an open mind. lifes too short.
a little tech tip: use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol, and wipe each side of the cartridge. They will be dirty since theyve cpllected dust for 30 plus years. Blowing doesnt remove all the dirt
We recently got a BOOKOFF in my part of the United States. It's a great place to find import games like for the Famicom and Super Famicom. It makes me wonder if imported games are popular in Japan like they are in America.
I've always wanted to go to Japan and buy lots of retro games at a Hard Off or a Book Off. I have young kids now, though, so it won't be any time soon. Hopefully there are still lots of old games for sale whenever I do make it to Japan.
Thank you for another great video. I used to play Tecmo Super NBA Basketball all the time. I wish I was able to find games like this, and not really expensive. Sadly, retro games here in the states, a lot are so expensive.
A bunch of gems from the heartbroken. The guys who needed money, brought their entire Super Nintendo collection with them to sell, and were offered 10 bucks for the lot...
i had alot of fun watching this video! i have super famicom like you but my one is broken :( to clean your super famicom games use a cotton tip with alcohol free wipes!
Blowing on cartridge edge connectors doesn't really do anything. Chances are, your repeated re-insertion of the cartridge removed some oxidation on the contacts. Also, moisture from your breath can actually encourage corrosion of the contacts. Try using isopropyl alcohol next time you have this problem. Best wishes from the UK!
Book Off or Hard Off, even though the things are pre-loved. They make it appear like they're brand new! Scariest thing, the stuff you can find in a Japanese thrift stores sometimes look newer than the things we can buy in the UK!!
They tried doing that in the U.S. with Dollar stores and Supermarkets and it never took off. It would be wild to see an old school game for $2 again. I think I found the original Megaman for $5 back in the 90's.
Just to let you know it’s better to use a Q-tip with a little bit of alcohol on it to clean the contacts of the game then it is to blow in it. Cleaning it once will keep it working for a long time while blowing in it might work but in the long run adds moisture to it and attracts dust to form again. Also in the racing game you have to decide where to spend money to upgrade your car to make it faster or handle better. I’ve never played it but I can just tell from the beginning select screen that’s what type of game it is. Nice video!!! I really enjoyed it :)
Love your channel now great great video and you like old games like me haha - I subscribed - try blowing inside your console also to get rd of any dust in there also - sometimes there could be dust in there too
Japanese thrift stores look so cool, here in america so many are picked clean by people that re sell everything on the internet for money. You would almost never find old video games like this for decent prices here. Especially Pokemon games, or any PS1 games like FF, Xenogears, Parasite Eve, or others
I paid 1500 yen (9-10USD) for a Japanese Chrono Cross (SFam) at a shop like this in Akiba a couple months ago and I thought that was a good deal. I didn't realize it was possible to find them at other places for cheaper.
