- Properly preparing a melt dish for gold or silver is essential! Borax is commonly found at most local grocery stores in the laundry isle. Sprinkle it on lightly, don't over do it! You want a nice uniform coating.

Thank you!
Right on time for this viewer.
Had some costly lessons that led me here...
I appreciate you taking the time to create this piece.
Cheers.
Glad it helped Brandon!
Thank you for the well covered vid 👍 I have to glaze a melt dish for my very first gold drop and really don't want to go wrong lol
You have helped tremendously 🙂
Wonderful! I'm glad it helped!! Have fun with the Au drop 😁
@@LithicMetals thank you 👍 🙂
I have done the drop itself and am now doing hcl washes. Its all from a very long effort of working with PC pins and a few fingers but by the looks of the "mud" i have almost a quarter of an ounce so im really hoping i don't screw up the melt 🤞🤣
@@scrappydoo7887 I'm not sure what your procedure is, but I've added an Ammonia wash in between my HCL washes. It really makes a difference.
@@LithicMetals i used AP for the recovery of the gold plating from computer pins that were mainly 50% plated at best lol
After i had recovered what i thought should be enough raw material i then used acid bleach to refine the foils and SMB to drop it.
I have not heard of using ammonia as a wash other than people who have complained about their experience when dealing with platinum lol
I will however be looking into that 👍 thank you 👍 🙂
Great tip. Finally found the tip I needed to start. Thank you sir. Ps what is the big oxy torch set up?
Awesome, I'm glad it helped!
To glaze a dish or melt 2oz or less, I generally use MAPP gas... 2oz and up, or if I need extra heat... I have a basic oxy-acetylene torch.
please make a workshop tour
Perhaps I may! Thanks for the idea :)
good video
