Sometimes it can be caused by a dirty or corroded pilot thermocouple. Best way to do this is to remove the heater guard, and clean the pilot tip / thermocouple with emery paper or emery cloth until corrosion and / or carbon / soot is removed, once it is cleaned, it should stay lit.
If your pilot flame burns with a yellow tip, there could be muck or fluff blocking the pilot air intake venturi, a small orifice at the back of the pilot burner, and once this is cleaned with compressed air, it will burn cleanly and efficiently with a predominantly blue flame.
A totally yellow flame with soot on the plaques could also indicate a total pilot burner air intake blockage and this should be dealt with by a Calor Gas dealer or LPG qualified Gas Safe technician / engineer.
If you don't feel like tackling any of this yourself, it might be worth contacting a Calor Gas dealer or LPG qualified Gas Safe technician to assist.

Thanks! I tried cleaning the thermocouple and pilot light with a brush but to no avail, a quick blast of canned air did the trick!

If you look at the bottom where the ignition is, there’s three components, one the ignition which usually has a white ceramic base, the pilot light and the third is the thermocouple, the thermocouple is where you should blow.

Useful tip, which I did try. But the main problem I had was remembering the correct start up sequence.

    Mate, thanks, it worked.
We bought a brand new heater, it worked fine the first time and after a couple ours it did this.
Was a bit sceptical about the fix on a clean unit but hey, it works fine now.

The problem I have is on the 2 plate burner. Only 1 plate works and we just can't get the 2nd one to burn

I had the same problem. I tried blowing it under pressure, but that didn't help either. As I moved the heater it suddenly fixed itself. I found that some part of the heater moves by itself and with a little bump the problem goes away. I haven't found out exactly which part is in question yet, and if anyone knows, let me know, it will help a lot.

it might have a valve that if the heater falls over the gas is shut off possible that was stuck shut off if it had been stowed not stood up maybe.
