    Finally got my 4-5 ton MrCool running yesterday south of Buffalo NY. Was about 18 F yesterday and the unit worked great. In my case, I put a new Rheem 95T 70k BTU Propane converted furnace in and topped it with a 4 ton MrCool Coil. Had mice build a nest in my outdoor unit - looks like they got in under the service valves where the cover tab was broke off. No chewed wires luckily but I need to keep an eye on this. I covered the hole and put a stick of rat bait on top of the compressor. Thanks for making this video. This should be cheaper to run than propane - my propane cost went up 40% over last year. Have the propane furnace set to run as the "heat strips" and emergency if the heat pump can't keep up.

    I just installed a pioneer 4 ton system similar to this, really like how quiet it is compared to my old goodman.
    My only regret is I didn't do enough research beforehand. I should have gotten one of the brands (aciq, blueridge) that use a communicating thermostat, so that the unit didn't have to cycle on and off. instead it would just throttle down the compressor to match the exact cooling demand the house needs to stay at the set temp and stay running at that low speed continously. I can definitely feel when the pioneer kicks on and off inside my house in terms of temp change... oh well, still light-years better than that goodman that was undersized for my house.

    • @michaelmelnichuk1060
      @michaelmelnichuk1060  Год назад +1

      I agree. The communicating units are great. Most of them require you to have a certain thermostat . And they're usually a lot more expensive.. this is a great option for if you're just changed now at the outdoor unit.

      @Michael Melnichuk Aciq and blueridge were both cheaper than Mr.cool and the pioneer I got. I can't speak on the quality of them though, thats the main reason I picked pioneer since they have been making inverter ACs for a long time.

    I think its compressor speed is designed to run at a constant campacity output, or maybe on some type of relationship with the outdoor temp. such control can not be seen outside the north american, because people use wired remote controllers else ware so indoor and out door unites communite with each other like mini-split and campacity is controled by the difference between set point and indoor temp.

    • @sprockkets

      No. What it does is when it receives a call for heat or cool, it will start at its lowest capacity. As time goes on, it will ramp up capacity until the call for heat or cool is satisfied.

    This is a great idea! Does it the outside unit connect and communicate properly with the inside air handler using just the standard thermostat wire? I thought these required a separate, direct, higher gauge connection between the compressor and air handler.
    My system is only two years old, but the outside unit is bad. I bought the system used, so it's not under warranty. (Bad reversing valve so too much $ to replace the valve.) I've installed 3 mini splits, and love the more efficient inverter technology. I've been thinking I could replace my whole system with a Mr Cool Universal for less than a tech would charge to only replace the outside unit in my current system. But even doing that is a bit out of my budget right now. If I can install only this outside compressor, like you did, that will be awesome! I can do this myself relatively easy. ( I would either use the high-pressure quick connects to attach to flare fittings, or just flare the ends of my current lines to attach to the outside unit.)

      You can possibly get away with it, but variable capacity systems really need a TXV. If you have a goodman coil you can buy the TXV for it.

      @@paradise1984x keep in mind I can't remember where the pressure sensor goes. It's kinda of a mess how their's works, as it sticks outside the coil with a foam wrapper.
      Since the mrcool unit can detect how it is working with your setup, it may work fine with a piston, which is what you have now. There are mini splits that have such a setup and work fine. Have fun :) And if you braze, use nitrogen to keep your refrigerant lines clean.

      Oh and make sure it works for heat pumps. Should be a biflow marking on it.

    Can you sweat the connection instead of flares?

    • @michaelmelnichuk1060
      @michaelmelnichuk1060  3 года назад +1

      No has to be flared or quick connect at the service valve . It comes with a section of tubing that is already flared and you have to braze to existing tubing.

      So what? No other competitor has a compressor that can operate as low as they can. And no, I've looked at their setup and they solve the issue of compression ratios at low temps, while others have not.

      @@sprockkets and btw… it depends on the manufacturer how well a system is developed… iphones are also made in china but the company developing them checks the quality. If you buy a cheap system made with imported parts it’s more likely to be a crap system… bosch and fujitsu both manufacture in china but development is in japan for fujitsu and germany for bosch. So think twice before you talk bs and try bringing Carrier to the game.
