Ahhhh....memories!! Hubby and I did exactly this for a living for 8 years, custom design/ install HVAC residential. It was hard work but we did have fun too. It was fun doing non-type specific houses. Was in CO where there was mountain homes and city homes, plains homes, and custom duplexes. Great job! Coming right along... smiles and blessings...

Blocking for butt wipe holder, towel bar, sink, shower head. Somthing that worked for me for cabinet installs is to use plywood instead of drywall to mount cabinets to. This way the mounting can be done at any point and you only have to worry about locations of wires and pipes. I would take lots of pics before you drywall so you can refer back to wire and pipe run locations

it's a trick they do with a wire, use it to test where they're going before cutting a big hole.

First time I've seen a system for the heating and AC being installed and I thought it was very interesting. Good thing your attic was large enough to put everything.
If you spray foam the underside of the roof with a closed attic area you can save another 15% on the energy costs in addition to increasing the life of your mechanical equipment by another 5 to 7 years longer.
Yes everything will be spray foam insulated.

You walked up in the attic to look at the duct work and I said "octupus" just before you did. Made me laugh. Good job the house is looking good.
Very nice set-up. Upstairs evaporator drains plug up all of the time and if you're lucky safety sensors just shut the system down. If they overflow it's a huge disaster. It's amazing how fast bacteria grows and plugs the drain.
Unless the larger ones are different, the refrigerant is stored in the compressor area prior to install. The line set is purged and charged with nitrogen. Can't cut their line set unless you're prepared to purge and vacuum.
Oh, and the tool kit only goes out with the complimentary/TV units.
My friends that is just about the most beautiful view of the eastern United States mountains I've ever seen. Fantastic.
I know it hasn't been easy getting people up there to do the work, but its coming together nicely!
I would think you could come in from below the platform and using some 4 inch screws, screw the platforms in and pull it down flat. The things that make the biggest difference in a home are never seen. Make sure you always caulk the entire perimeter of the bathroom before you drywall so water stays in the bathroom and does not go under the walls. The sink base for the kitchen should have a sheet of linoleum installed on the floor pan then caulked around the perimeter so any spills or drips stay in and do not cause the base to swell and ruin the cabinet. I would also consider installing a large water tank in the space under the deck. I have a 10k buried in the yard that catches all the rain and I use it to wash and water. It's incredible how much is collected with even a small shower. It can be used also for watering grass, livestock and fire sprinklers. I would consider installing them on top of your house. Flying embers are what start most house fires during forest fires.

That is awesome you found a company to do this. I redid my HVAC in 2011 with RHEEM units. One was on purpose and the other one was when the old Train checked out. Yes I had a single 3 ton unit for the house and it was never comfortable So I added a new unit to the first floor to balance things out and did the ductwork adaptation myself. It isnt perfect but I was able to order the prefab stuff myself. When I fixed the second floor I could instantly see that the ductwork for the trunk line was way too small. I ended up buying round prefabbed ductwork at a local business and it was awesome to install. Still flex to the original registers but so much better aiflow. However, this is all traditional single stage design. I purchased a Mini for the living room to replace some propane gas longs bc the refill service became prohibitively expensive. Anyway, just before my son was born I purchased a split system that has multiple heads for the house. I have not gotten the time to install it. I still will but if either Rheem unit goes out they are getting replaced with these. Why? Because it is so much cheaper and more comfortable to have oversized inverter equipment and no backup resistance heating. I also dont like getting cold or hot when something gets messed up until I can fix it. Redundancy is the key. Now if I could only find a heat exchanger for the systems to send the heat to an above ground pool in the summer.
It has been so satisfying watching this build! Everything is just so, and it feels so clean and like everything has a place. I swear, my Mom's house is like a jungle of wires and ductwork all over the place.
Walking up to that air return on the first floor... it made me think of a dumb waiter and if you're planning on canning, I'd want one. So I'm not walking down loads of jars into the basement to store them! ;)

I love my Mr Cool 20 SEER. Installed last March, replacing a Trane 10 SEER heat pump, even after adding a hot tub and a swimming pool our electricity is still lower!!

The place is looking real good Jeremy. I think you should run some carriage bolts through the hanging frame in the basement. That air handler will cause some vibration and having two carriage bolts in each 2x4 will ensue it stays secured.
Well, you did your research and networking and it looks like you will be warm and cozy when you need that indoors and cool and good sleeping temperatures in the humid summertime. That is a MAJOR investment and a big step forward. Mr. Cool units look very functional and I hope are quiet running. Loved this video!

-Here we make bases in concrete, alias everything here is made in concrete and clay bricks or concrete bricks, we don't use wood as they use there, it is very rare.
-based on the machines we would have hit a concrete alias even manually put irons, and we would never have put it on crushed stones only, it would have taken only a couple of days to dry and there it would be level and much firmer.
-But this is how we do it here, we really hope for you to finish and stay as you dream ... !!!

Very wise decision, your going to save thousands of dollars over the life of the equipment.
I've seen a few RUclips installs of the Mr.Cool HVAC units, most have been for the mini-splits in a completely off-grid setting. Wild Wonderful Off-Grid recently did a triple setup in their A-Frame home in W. Virginia.

Called my neighbor, AC Tech. Paid him $300 to finish off the tubing and check out the system. He now sells the unit I installed. Luckily I live in an area full of AC Techs.
I am very interested in this system from Mr. Cool. I hope you will be installing radiant heat in your bathrooms. It is so pleasing to the feet in the winters, and it dries everything out. including your towels and bath mat. Even though you already have top quality HVAC, radiant floor heat in your baths is a solid bet.

After viewing your installation, one adjustment I would have made, Your air handler I believe is in the basement. I would have made a longer bracket then put 3/4 plywood down or something similar then put a auxiliary drain pan then you can install the air handler horizontally. The longer length will give total access to the air handler just incase the evaporator coil or the blower assembly has to be removed. This is a common installation problem where the unit is hanging horizontal and sometimes the struts are positioned that it is impossible for access removal creating hundreds of dollars of modifications before the repair can be made. Otherwise good stuff! Let us know how the system performs!

Yeah I have the same problem here Jeremy I have a nice heater that’s only a couple years old to put in our house but trying to find someone to do the ducting is is a challenge
Outstanding! ... Be sure to follow up with some putty or tap on all those duct seams. Also, are you concerned with settling or erosion around those outside units? Those pads don't appear too stable for the long run. ... What a project this has been to follow! Thanks for taking us along.
Only thing I did different is mastic the flex ducts to the register n collars at the unit then zip tie then tap, but it’ll probably be okay ✅
You should install UV lights for each indoor coil kills the COVID 19 and other germs 🦠 plus keeps your coils clean,
And always change the filters monthly whether or not you think it’s ready or not? Lot easier to change filters than clean coils, and every foot of surface area you lose on the inside and outside coils due to dirt is tonnage you lose.
A 3ton becomes a 2 ton fast on dirty coils?
You’re going to hate having to clean those outside coils being that far under the porch,
Should bring them to the front edge for easier service n washing.
But the metal ducts are great! Later on you may consider metal flex, mice can gnaw through it!
Been thinking about that UV-c light but they say it'll break down flex ducting plastic and my AC coil sits in a plastic tray. They do make flex that's UV-c resistant but too late for me :(
@@dljones61 the uv light inside the air handler will never make it to the flex so its not an issue with flex. uv light only works on what the light shines on. does absolutley nothing to the air flowing through cause the air is moving too fast for the light to be effective

The Mr. Cool design is interesting. It's a conventional ducted system, but the outdoor units are like a scaled-up mini-split condenser, with side discharge and the ability to be installed closer to structures than typical condensing units would be happy with. It's good that you engaged with a contractor who can ensure your installation meets code.

Make sure to route the condensate line outside the building envelope, otherwise you will have moisture issues in that space. Did you calculate any Manual J numbers for the proper tonnage? You also need an exterior GFCI (20A) receptacle within 25 ft of the condensing units (NEC).

geothermal heating/cooling could of work to? or a Japanese mini split system.
I contacted Mr Cool about choosing a unit for my new homestead home. Got an email back basically saying they couldn't help me. That they wouldn't size a unit and wouldn't suggest a unit. Guess they are only interested in the money without providing any help!

There are too many factors for them to give you a general size. There are plenty of formulas online, or you can hire one of the many online companies to size your system based on many factors of your build.
@@jeremyanderson7741 No, it's just called passing the buck. They aren't willing to take any initiative to help customers. They just want you to buy a unit and when it's not the right one, then to bad don't call us. I wasn't specifically asking them to size the unit. I am looking for a manly heating unit and asked which one would be best for heating only in colder temperatures. If a manufacturer can't tell me which of there units do what, than who can? The only dealer they have within 200 miles of me is a garden center. That's like going to a pool company to get your car oil changed!

The manufacturer understands that so many factors are involved, that it would be irresponsible for them to give recommendations solely based on square footage and home locations. 4 out of 5 times, they would end up with poorly performing systems and unhappy customers. YOU are exactly the kind of customer that they DO NOT need. You have not educated yourself enough to know that you don't know. That being said, I'm pretty sure you would complain if there was an issue.
Looks like the return is about 4' or so from an conditioned air outlet, Seems to me the conditioned air will be sucked directly into the return .....
Nice looking work on the units drip tray will you put a water alarm on the tray in case you get water in them to let you know there may be a problem , drainage or freezing up I caught mind changing AC filter before water damage 👍love the work keep the videos coming thanks
Yes there are float switches in the drip pans
Your return is to close to the supply vents. You’ll be recondioning the already conditioned air. Warranty work is the problem you run into when you don’t buy the unit from the same insulation crew or company. Hope you don’t have any issues with that duct work.
M Watkins yea, I saw that in the main living room and thought the air from the supply could easily just go straight back to the return! I suppose the different temperature of the air will change the direction of flow, so the supply falling immediately in a warm room. But there's still going to be some weird mixing!
@@BobHannent you’re right. You always put your return as far away as possible. I’ve always hated using that flex ductwork to. You have to use a larger size flex line just because of the air restriction when using metal you use smaller lines with no restrictions.

Well shit. The name plate on your outdoor unit is different than what the install manual says (version 10-25-21). My unit is coming this Wednesday and I already have all my electrical pulled. The manual says minimum circuit ampacity 24 amps, max fuse size 35 amp. So, I ran 10 gauge. Looks like you ran #8. If these values you showed are indeed the actual specs I would have pulled #8 as well. The manual for the MDUO18024036 specifically says if running in 2 ton mode minimum ampacity is 18 amps (max fuse 20) so I should be fine. Maybe specs have changed since 2020.
Two big things made me choose this unit:
1.) Pre-charged line set = no HVAC tech (hopefully).
2.) If someday myself or a future owner wishes to addon to the house the system can be switched to 3 ton mode.
Update: received my unit and the manual was correct. All good.
Do you know or started adding up how much solar you will need too run the Homestead...just incase?✌
it'll have to be -30 degrees or so for the heat kits to kick on
Seems very strange to me but we don't have HVAC in England,most people just have a fan for hot weather and central heating for the rest of the year.
A lot of people here do it the way you do it. I just use a few tiny fans in hot weather. These guys have more money, so they go deluxe!
In the south, their summers have high heat; think over 90 degrees and high humidity.
Lesley Harris if you have central heat then you have HVAC. Basically all HVAC is is any type of heat/air conditioning and is just a common term used to speak about heat/air conditioning of any type or style. It stands for heat, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Have you been able to turn the units on yet? Very curious about their performance and power consumption during winter.
Will appreciate if you could share your experiences post install ? How has been the heating this winter ? What kind of winter you had ( lows etc ) and how the units performed , particularly in terms of electricity consumption ( KwH ) etc ?
