Good info. Our church safety team training - first he never would have been let inside with a backpack. Second, he never should have be able to get on stage.
Don't ever assume that there is 'only one' threat.
Thanks for leaving a comment Jim!!
In our Church the Pastors want to initially handle all disturbances inside the Church. We want to implement deescalation right away where no weapon is involved as soon as possible in order to hopefully reach a better outcome. Hands on is hopefully a last option. Once physical contact is made the risk of injury for everyone involved increases significantly. Our policy is no hands on till the person is told to stop, stay back, or to leave the premises, and they don’t comply. Inside the Church, the person will be asked meet with a pastor or prayer team, and the Security Team, or to leave. If they will not comply, or they are getting angry or angrier the Congregation nearby the person will be removed and the Police called. The Police will remove them or they will decide to leave. If they attempt to intimidate or attack the Pastor, Band, or Congregation, the person will be told to stop, and to leave, and if they don’t they will physically be removed or grounded till the Police arrive. If outside the Church, they will be told to stop, stay back, or to leave and physically removed if they try to enter. The Police will be called if we go hands on or they don’t leave the parking lots. We are screening for people who are angry, confused, or uncooperative, and for weapons ( ACU-W). Concealed carry is legal in Church in our State, but everyone must first have our Senior Pastor’s approval. For our safety and theirs. People in the Congregation and Security Team who are approved to carry know each other. Visitors or those not approved to carry may be viewed as another attacker if they display a weapon even in self defense situation.
My thoughts - they certainly took their time getting on stage to remove the guy! They were right there on the front row. I know folks sometime slip past us but once they were responding, they really should move faster. Their slow movement allowed an opportunity for the guy to rush the paster, pull a gun, detonate a backpack I E D or anything. I know it's always easier calling these things after-the-fact and when you're in the situation, it can be somewhat confusing if you haven't practiced that exact scenario.
The Holy Spirit wanted to make sure that the man delivered his prophetic message.
So He slowed them down, bound the demons in the church, and enabled the prophet to deliver the whole message.
There are full transcripts of this prophetic message on the internet. People listened to the video and wrote out the message.
So he didn't just speak into the air.
Pastor MacArthur and the elders would have access to the transcript of the message.
And the videos that are online.
The Holy Spirit anointing on the message also provided the necessary volume so that everybody could hear it. His voice bounced off of the ceiling in that huge auditorium and was very loud throughout the prophetic message.
He did not have any electronic amplification under his jacket -- you would have heard thumping sounds as the men handled him and led him out of the room.
The guy who disrupted the service is Joe Kirby. He has a RUclips channel called Off the Kirb Ministries. He only had a theological beef with the pastor. Even though I agree with Joe's theological stance, I think public confrontation like this is not helpful. I question him wearing a backpack to do this.
Thanks for sharing Eric....great info!
The pastor is John MacArthur. I don’t think Kirby is Scottish. This was 2015 .
That was not Joe Kirby. You should delete your comment.
Not Joe Kirby - looks nothing like him and Joe isn’t Scottish, nor would Joe ever do that.
Agreed, side door option preferred, however not being part of that church and team, we do not know if there was a valid reason for not using the side exit. Screening/blocking good. I like the smooth calmness and professional attitude of the team. No conversation with disrupter. Keeping hands on disrupter and keeping his arms/hands away from his body and controlled in my opinion is good. One on each side a rear guard and lead is good. We'll done in my opinion. We must be peace makers/keepers and balance ministry, safety, and security.
I’m the Director of our security the one issue that I have with this video this is access to the Pastor . I trained my team that access to the Pit and Pastor is completely off-limits, while they did screen him. He had a full two or three seconds where he had just stopped. Had he intended the harm the pastor he had access to do so. We have an individual posted in the pool fit , and right at the entrance of the pool pit to prevent this very thing from happening
Fitness for security members is also paramount
Our church safety team watched this video. Our pastor has actually been to the church in the video for a seminar/conference. Regarding the comments about the church members taking the the man out, our pastor said the side exit door the narrator is referring to leads off to mostly a “children’s area” and the door they took him out goes straight outside (no lobby). 👍
Thanks LP for watching and sharing a comment for us!
I just came across this channel today. Excellent content. I’ve also been to this church, and you are correct about the layout. Those back doors lead directly outside.
One question I have is if he should have been allowed to make it onto the stage? We’ve been training our team to intercept prior to the person making onto the platform.
Once again, great content! I wish I would have found your channel years ago (from a fellow former LEO).
This may of happened but, make sure this is not a diversion from an attack on the childrens' ministry or nursery.
Thanks Charles for watching and sharing with us!
That’s Grace Community in Sun Valley. I have experience with that team - great team. The door they used was the most direct to the street. It’s the outside commons. The side door goes to classrooms.
Great insight Keith, thank you for the comment!
Looks like the safety staff did an excellent job responding to the situation. They appear to be calm and professional. I do agree that the side exit would have been a better choice but in the heat of the moment its easy to miss that option. Overall an excellent job!
Long walk allows everyone to see and identify him later
Interesting thought Fred.....thanks for watching.
it was videotaped also.
My suggestion is to prevent people from getting there as much as possible.
How did this brother get there in the first place?
Yes Victor you are right, my philosophy is try to be screening at the front door or in the lobby, to attempt to detect these issues before they get to our families and leaders.
The backpack was a concern for me.
If you won't press charges, at least have them trespassed.
Yes good point Timothy, we need to have boundaries and enforce those boundaries.
The man speaking seems like he don't believe in forgiveness so why the hell is he speaking on chruchs that were built off people coming up boldly and speaking
He should have never made it on the stage. They are lucky he stopped when he did.
Yes Tommy......I completely agree, it is tough sometimes to keep track of everything going on, especially when something like this does not happen very often, it can catch us off guard. But I agree, our control point in our churches, should be the lobby. The more of this we can catch in the lobby and hold them there to be ministered to or whatever the choice is, the better we are. If we can see people that don't look right in the lobby, then we can talk to them there, be kind and get someone to minister to them outside or at another time. Thanks for the comment!
@@ChurchSecurityAnswers Thank you. I just found your videos and I am the lead greeter/usher at our little church so I can't wait to share this with my Pastors.
Excellent that is what all of these videos are for. I am glad that you are helping your church be a little bit safer. Let me know if you have questions that are not being answered on our site.
Good idea to use the side exits
Security didn't see him until he was up on the platform. He could have opened fire in any direction.
He could easily have stabbed MacArthur from that distance. MacArthur was not happy about this 'close call' and he said so.
Hello Soli, yes we are thankful nothing worse happened in this incident. And we all have to do our best in these situations. Thanks for watching and commenting!
There should be security on stage to see anyone coming. The mega church I attend has security on both sides of the stage. You’re not going to even get close enough to interrupt the pastor.
Yes if you have enough security people to cover the stage after you cover entrances and lobbies that is great!! Thank you for leaving a comment.
He could have been a distraction for the real threat
That is true Kevin, we did not discuss that option either. Not a usual situation where we see distractions before a major issue, but it could be something to discuss with your team.
Love your knowledge and Wisdom, thank you I will be following you
Hey Wal, thanks for watching and the comment too!
But what if they are a real prophet who needs to speak????
Humph…it won’t happen there.
Good advice!!!!!!!!!!
I.M.H.O.- I believe these ushers/security people did an excellent job removing the disruptor. However, I might suggest that the disruptor should have been intercepted before making the platform. Had this individual been armed, there was little that could be done once he was on said platform. Again, I.M.H.O.
They moved to slow he could have rushed him
One other thing is a security team member on the pulpit to prevent him from getting that close to the pastor.
Yes for that large of a church....it might not be a bad idea, I do have to say tho that the security was close to the front, so they were able to get there quickly.
I agree with you 100%. There was no one in between him and the pastor for at least 7-8 seconds if he wanted to do harm that is too much time in my opinion. I am a member of my church security team and the way we're trained he would have never made it on the stage.
I was disturbed that this man was wearing a back pack... that's pretty out of place in a church setting and shouldn't go unchallenged on some level. If he wouldn't let our team check it out, and we didn't know him, he wouldn't be let in. Especially if there were any other per attack indicators like an agitated demeanor. We also aren't to allow an aggressor to reach the stage... by rapid & aggressive intervention if necessary. Great video, thanks.
I carry a backpack everyday, everywhere. To church, to work,…several people in our church do, but then, we all know each other.
side exits are great
Yes they are Tj ! A great tool for security teams to manage and use!
Depending on each states laws...making physical contact with an individual like this can get you in hot water.
That’s why he recommended that if you have to put your hands on them, call the police and press charges so there is documentation.
As a security/usher responder, you must regularly check the "alternate exit" routes and know what's there. At my church, the side exit would lead to a backstage area that's dark and filled with a lot of obstacles. I'd have to take a person out through the main doors for their safety and mine.
Excellent, that is great news that you are thinking about those things! Thanks for watching and sharing!
That’s not Kirby!
Once again, good advice.
Thanks Buddy!
They did horrible job in my opinion super slow to get between the pastor and subject. Slow getting up stage. It could of cost them.
Hello Brian, well remember many times in the church environment we are dealing with volunteers, so don't be too tough on them. We definitely need to strive for excellence in what we do! Thank you for watching and commenting.
This is good
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment Charles!!
Side exit will be better
Thanks for watching and commenting TJ!
Got it, use the side door, not sure why you had to repeat it so many times.
Slow passive interaction. 5 of 10 guy had a back pack
We had to do this with a crying baby.
How did it go? Did the parents go out of the service easily?
I suggest you remove the comments here that give details of the church's security details.
Thanks Ron for the note, we will take a look and see what we can find in someone's comments!
My question is why do we not make these people the pastor i mean look at their fire in their spirit!!!
No one stood by the pastor 🙏
Its a shame thatthat false prophet McArthur didnt listen to that man . I hope that McArthur finds the real gospel and not that false religion called calvinism.
Not Calvinism . . . cessationism.
Cessationists believe (falsely) that spiritual gifts like prophecy, tongues and healing are not operating today.
@@alanstevens1296 ow I agree with the man totally, but MacArthur doesn't know the Gospel either. He is a Calvinist not a Christian.
@@IronSharpensIron127
MacArthur is a real theologian who has helped a lot of people.
But his opposition to charismatics and Pentecostal is shameful.
@@alanstevens1296 he doesn't believe in the Gospel. He believes in Calvinism. He is a gnostic. I know because I use to be a Calvinist
@@IronSharpensIron127
I am not Calvinist, but it is not heresy.
