Cloud's strength not only comes from his physical strength but also his will. It is a motivation for Cloud to become stronger and stronger, remember that Cloud's skills are due to his self-study, but have never been formally trained. The first time he met Reno, Cloud struggled to defeat him, but here, Cloud could defeat Reno easy. Rufus Shinra himself has to admit that although not yet a soldier, Cloud is one of the strongest he has ever met, and only he can confront Sephiroth, which is why Rufus comes to Cloud when he discovers Sephiroth can revive again. Even the scientist Hojo is amazed at Cloud's potential, even creating a project that is superior to S-project. And why in this movie Cloud seems so weak, is because he has not yet found the reason for fighting, his inner torment and above all Geostigma's disease, it explodes when Cloud fights, it causes the losing strength and vitality, Denzel faints frequently when Geostigma recurs.
His trully potencial and strength comes from the jenova's cells, that has been evolving and increasing his potential since he was captured by hojo in the Shinra mansion with Zack, after the encounter with sephiroth in Nibel reactor, hojo put jenova cells inside clouds body plus high mako exposure . @El Lorenzo no, basically jenova cells and mako energy is what gives a soldier their strength. Geostigma is a disease that commonly occurs in soldiers I believe, and I think it's either Sephiroth or something else that had caused the disease. The reason why Cloud covers his left arm most of this story is because his left arm is rendered very weak and badly affected by Geostigma. It then goes on to affecting his mind and its supposedly excruciatingly painful. Cloud still has his fighting spirit and fights even with this illness, really emphasising just how strong he is. If he werent suffering from geostigma, clearly he would of made easy work off of his opponents.
@@Josh-ym9vx When Meteor began to fall on Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy VII, the lifestream emerged to push it back. Because some parts of the lifestream had been infected with Jenova cells, the people who came in contact with this tainted lifestream contracted Geostigma. The disease is not contagious, but is believed to be so. In Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Vincent Valentine says Geostigma is caused by the host being infected with Jenova cells, and in On the Way to a Smile, the novella "Lifestream: Black" states that Sephiroth's will acting through those cells is the cause, and the cells are the medium through which they act. In Advent Children Complete, Rufus Shinra states the public believes mako energy to be the cause of the disease. When someone is infected with Geostigma they contract Jenova's cells, and the immune system works to try to eliminate them. This fails to remove the cells, and the immune system overcompensates fighting an incurable contamination. Those infected with Geostigma experience debilitating weakness as their bodies devote energy to fighting off Jenova's cells, and develop open sores on their body that secrete black ooze. Some sufferers experience hallucinations and seizures. Although its severity varies from person to person, Geostigma is invariably fatal. The disease has no known cure.
