I just stumbled on your vlog. I student teach in the fall and I love seeing someone so excited to teach. My tik tok is full of teachers that are quitting. Actually my coteacher is quitting this year too. So seeing teachers that are excited and admitting that it can get tough sometimes is awesome
I agree! I am passionate about teaching but honestly, I am really struggling to go for a full-time teaching position. It feels like everyone is leaving the profession so my anxiety is through the roof about it. I feel sick at the thought of not giving it a chance. But the anxiety is strong and real.
Love the video!! I grew up by Sacramento and I did Flat Stanley is 2nd grade! Mine went to all my family including DC which was fun! I just graduated from college with my degree in Early Childhood Special Ed. I’ve been loving watching you videos for ideas for my future classroom. Thanks for sharing!!
We are doing Flat Stanley right now too!! We tie in our study of communities.. Flat Stanley travels along with them on their job and their “person” sends us back a photo or two on the job with Stanley as well as a letter describing their job in the community.. Stanley has gone all over our country and in a few others as well. I’d love to see the map you were talking about earlier.. We do a bulletin board map but it would be great if kids had their own too. ❤
I also teach second and the weeks have just gotten crazier as we near the end of the school year! Can you speak more in a future video about how your ELA and math centers have gone this year? Will you change them at all for next year? Trying to start mentally planing how to shake mine up next year and think I want to copy your schedule!
You contemplating teaching and taking into account how your hormones effect your mood overall is certainly not TMI for me. I appreciate you bringing those subjects up because those are ones that plague me from time to time as well. It is SO beyond nice to hear that there are other women who feel the same way.
I teach in a really shitty old Catholic school (not my first choice). We had no heat in the classroom all year and there’s no air conditioning. We also have almost no supplies. We have some serious behavior issues; I have a student who was abused up to age 5 who constantly acts out. Almost glad I may not be needed next year due to shrinking student population. Those of you who teach in nice public schools, consider yourselves lucky despite all the challenges the profession presents. You are heroes.
Even if they decide they need you - doesn't mean you have to stay - though I feel for those kids that have nothing. I teach in a title one school, and it can be so hard
It is so cool that Flat Stanley is still a popular project! I did the Flat Stanley project with my second graders during my first year of teaching back in 2006. We sent them to other schools we connected to around the world. If you guys want to send one to Taipei, let me know!
I am 100% stealing Must Do / May Do. I am not a teacher, but I have incorporated it into my weekend To Do List. I created a PWM video and gave you credit for Must Do / May Do. Thanks for the idea!
Your classroom is so big, I wish I had that much space!!! Can you please tell me the premise behind doing Math first? Since you teach everything, as I do I'm just wondering why you do that. I teach Heggerty/Fundations first, then Close Reading, Writing and then Small Groups. We're moving to Structured Literacy format, so we just changed our schedule - we used to do Small Groups after Fundations.
Hi Shelley, my name is Michelle and I've recently found your channel. Let me tell, I absolutely love it! Love your style! I teach K-5 Art and I found your calendar set up so helpful. Traveling between 2 schools makes it a bit of hassel changing the calendar each time I'm at one of my schools and creating a calendar has been awesome! My students are even enjoying it. I used black floor tape. Thank you for sharing your ideas and life with us. P.S. How are you liking the BOGG Bag? I've been debating if I should buy one. It keeps popping up on my Instagram. Lol Take care.
Hi! When you say I was contemplating teaching, do you mean thinking of another profession? I just finished student teaching and I had this thought sometimes. I’m just wondering does it happen to most teachers during times of stress? Is it normal?
I have a weird question. I am from the Midwest. Our classroom doors are all inside. Your class door leads to outside correct? How do you manage that, from a safety perspective? (I teach middle school and also have a lot of kinda wander in and out of my room too lol)
That’s how 99% of schools are here. Kids just know not to wander in and out 🤷🏻♀️ I think I would have that same expectation regardless of whether to school was indoor or outdoor

I will be student teaching this fall and I appreciate your honesty! It's good to see the ups and downs of teaching 💜

Thanks for sharing the good, bad, and the ugly.
I’m about to start a new year as a third grade teacher (have been 4th for a while). Looking forward to teaching younger kiddos.
Thanks for sharing apps that help promotes classroom diversity. Excited to dive into teacher toolbox emerging into the career.

Yes!! I will be changing a few things up, and will definitely make a video about it going into next year!

Where is the planner from you show at the end of this video? I love it and love your videos! So helpful!!!
I have adopted "the pile" in my own practice. It is great for those of us who are easily distracted 😜
