This is a do-over of the original cleric crap guide, which did not meet my standards for how I want these videos to be.
if you REALLY want to watch the original version, just know that it's totally inaccurate and not in a purposeful or clever way. it is horribly misinformed and based on very little experience. I'm not proud of it. in the future I will do better to research these classes and write them more accurately.

I think he confused death domain with grave domain. Grave domain is "No body dies". Death domain is EVERYONE DIES.

Absolutely no one in my group wants to play a cleric cause everyone demands they do their job and heal.
But I don't hear them complaining when I put up a blade barrier to protect us while I reattached the wizards severed limb while simultaneously bashing the big bad guys head in with a spiritually dank hammer. All the while hoping my sempai is watching me from the heavens.
With that kind of play, you bet that Deity-Senpai will be watching.

@@Marco-bd2tt Spiritual Weapon definately. Only way to do all 3 actions at once. Blade Barrier is concentration spell, and he can attack with his bonus action with Spiritual weapon while healing the wizard himself. In short, cleric OP.
Demanding heals is the best way to get you dead when I play cleric. Just because my shadow elf is a life domain cleric doesn't mean he is going to use his heal spells on stupid people.

Cleric's actually have the shortest spell list of any full casting class...but all the spells they get are *such bangers*
I know right, I recently reached level three and, looking through the level 2 spells, I was blown away by how many of them sounded really good and useful. Like Prayer of Healing, Aid, Enhance Ability, Spiritual Weapon, Silence, Blindness/Deafness, Hold Person, Augury, just Jesus Christ how the hell do I choose????

Except the high level spells. Those are heal or trash
But with clerics, every spell is available. It just needs to be prepared and that can change every new day. For every other class, you only get the spells you learned. You don't just immediately have the entire level of spells.

First time I played DnD, I played a life cleric. Ended up being the second most damaging player on my team.

@@tirone7520 Same here. Played a Tempest Domain Cleric, and the damage is...well...shocking (sorry). ESPECIALLY when we were being rushed by a group of bandits, and I decided to burn a Channel Divinity for maximum damage on Call Lightning.

Honestly it could be very viable, and you don't even need clerics only, just do:
- One Cleric of your choice (I prefer Tempest for pure coolness factor)
- One Paladin of your choice (I prefer Conquest for Crowd Control)
- One Divine Sorcerer
- One Warlock of the Celestial

I recently had my first D&D game and I choose life cleric with the persona of a human nun since we needed a healer. Best fucking decision of my life, I didin't know that what I needed in my existence was becoming a Katamari Damacy rolling out in the wild without worries, hitting like a truck, healing like a Mercy, sniping like a bazooka, tanking like a walking castle Laputa and reminding my partners every 10 minutes to go to mass and confess their sinful attitudes. Thanks Pope Francis.
As a DM, I did notice the last one didn't quite get across the suffering we feel when the "healer" tears the hydra in half with the might of Zeus.
Our lowlevel party walked into a room full of skeletons. We thought "wow a challenge!". Then the cleric used turn undead and we spend half an hour hitting skeletons that were running into a wall trying to dodge our attacks.
Mr Hero lmao I played a cleric onetime that used that and sent zombies tumbling down an abandoned mine shaft.
Was this mines of madness by any chance cause my party had the exact same thing

I did something like this once. But it weren't skeletons, but zombies, and not running into walls but rather into spikes our ranger and warlock put on the ground.

My Cleric theory. Nobody wanted to play them so they got buffed. And that's happened in every edition since 1st so now Clerics are far and away the most powerful class and poor warlocks are just eldritch blasters.
As a warlock in a party with a cleric I concur.
And people still dont play them cuz they're still under the preconception that all they do is heal.
can't wait for 6th edition when the cleric will be totally unstoppable.
Actually, clerics have always been one of the most powerful classes.
Yeah I can't think if a time when clerics weren't strong. They started out as having faster advancement than wizards with only slightly less varied/powerful spells, and have retained that feature while gaining tons of others.

And the fact that it's only a third-level spell. Ye gods. Spirit Guardians breaks entire *types* of encounters. When the wizard is just getting that first Fireball, the cleric gets a half-strength radiant damage angel-fireball that doesn't hurt the party, slows enemies, and lasts ten freaking minutes while you drag it around with you.

I didn't realize how strong my cleric was until he, at lvl4, almost took out a lvl7 rogue. Rogue had terrain in their favor and everything, plus a dagger of venom. It was just a fight where we were just messing around.

Right?! So many other channels would just write out an apology in the comments and pin it, then call it a day. I think Jo's work ethic has earned a lot of respect with this.
Not to crap on anyone, but I believe he went back on it because the other video just basically said "Clerics are only good at healing, otherwise it’s a lesser version of another class" which is vastly different to this video, making a standard "whoops I fucked up" comment would be too hard and probably would’ve taken a lot more effort to do correctly compared to just remaking the video.
I love the idea that a cleric is just a specific deity's ascended fanboy.
I remember the first time I played cleric. I was one of the only ones at the session, along with my friend and the DM. Everyone else couldn’t make it. It turns out that the Paladin + Cleric combo is so overpowered that we finished the whole damn campaign in a few hours.

@@megavore97 While we're discussing the many illustrious faces of the Cleric, I'm excited to try Blood Domain, from Matt Mercer's Tal'Dorei setting. The domain spells heavily feature buff and debuff spells, and they get a martial weapon proficiency.
I've already got a character brewing: a military veteran whose found religion after miraculously surviving a fatal wound suffered on tne battlefiled. In my head, he's something between Mephistopholes from Goethe's Faustus(namely, the Spanish dandy aspect), and Illaoi from League of Legends; he urges people to indulge in the revelry of life while they have the means and the time.

Detheccus I was in an all cleric party once... God what a cluster fuck. It was great. War Cleric, Grave Cleric, Trickster Cleric, Life Cleric, Knowledge Cleric. It was glorious and I’m mad we didn’t call ourselves the A-men.
I really want to run a campaign for a group of clerics and paladins acting like a swat team for undead/demons. Would be great to just throw insane shit at them at low levels and watch them DEUS VULT the literal hell out of it.

ok i had a great evening the other day when the cleric in our party decided that some a-hole wizards who stole out shit had to die so he invoked the mfing POWER OF RA and rolled a 16 on his divine intervention percentile role(we are all level 16 now) and holy crap that was awesome, my character (who is not a follower of Ra) the conversation went like this:
me: Is that your god?
friend: yes
me: What's his name?
friend: Ra
me: PRAISE RA!
Our god’s the fun god ‘cause our god’s the sun god. Ra! Ra! Ra!
So ra is the sun god... in other words... PRAISE THE SUN
Now I just wanna play a Slavic Cleric of Ra, so he can call his Divine Intervention by singing "RA RA RASPUTIN / LOVER OF THE RUSSIAN QUEEN"

As a support main, I wholeheartedly *support* this video. Clerics are super fun to play when you really have a chance to stretch their capabilities as divine casters. There's a reason my main in BG3 is gonna be a cleric, and it's not just because I don't trust the AI to heal me. (Also Light Domain best domain don't @ me)
BG 3 is out. I hope you enjoyed playing a cleric as much as I do esp. in act 2. had to swap from Barb after meeting Karlach but it turned out to be best decision ever. 2 clerics in 1 party just completely break the game, which is no wonder considering I have the power of Moradin and buff tieflieng tomboy barbarian GF on my side.

My DM won't let me roll Tempest Domain Clerics after my Minotaur Cleric ate his arena subplot for breakfast.
I rolled up a Tempest Cleric as my entry into using a magic-based character. I'm disappointed in myself for not realizing sooner how great this class is.
Tempest Domain Cleric Firbolg. For that beautiful moment when the fat, jolly looking priest the bad-guys are talking down to suddenly grows to 8ft and roars so loud that it physically hurts everything in the room.

One of my players has started playing an Order Cleric, and it is hilarious to watch a Lawful Neutral cleric being played like an Inquisitor. He's cold and clinical, so every time he heals I describe how uncomfortable a feeling it is compared to other clerics. Normally being healed feels like slipping into a warm bath or receiving a kindly embrace. With him it's like an alien presence is reaching into the character to pull their wounds close. "You feel better, but you also feel vaguely violated by the clinical nature of the healing."
We just did the A-Men squad and lets say.. the homebrew modded Tiamat still didnt stand a chance :P
Turn undead may be my least favorite channel divinity option, but if a ghost posesses your friend, the only other option to make the gost leave is to smash in said friends face and hope you can revive him later. So in the extremely rare occasion that you need it, youll be damn glad to have it.
Turn undead is not a strong spell, but one of the most hilarious & pretty save once.

@@clowntown5220 The only ways to eject a ghost from a possessed host is to use one of these options:
1) Turn Undead.
2) Use a spell like Dispel Evil and Good.
3) Have the ghost willingly end the possession.
4) The host is reduced to 0 hit points (is knocked unconscious).
So, in the case of lacking options 1 or 2, and number 3 being improbable at best, option 4 is all you have left.
Considering how many undead are in D&D along with dealing with asshole Necromancers I'd say it's darn useful.

I have a alchoholic kobold artificer i wrote up months ago who specialized in making potions, booze, medicine, etc. He often samples his own supply and his experiments and can be found in his lab most of the time enjoying or suffering from whatever concoction he cooks up. Whenever i get to play him i want to have him share his brews either willingly or by tricking others into drinking them so he can study the effects, or just for shits and giggles. I plan on having a lot of fun with him.

Oh my GOD finally! Someone agrees with me! I've been DM'ing only recently and I thought I was doing something wrong. CLERICS ARE RIDICULOUS. Oh so you have a big encounter early level where it's supposed to bring you down to near death?
Cleric just used two spells, killed the big baddie in one hit and just healed himself and his entire party back to full.
Me (as DM): welp time to throw a young dragon into this... Out heal that cleric!
Cleric: rolls natural 20 on a spell attack two shots dragon...

Try bringing in something to counter their magic like a magic deadzone or a spellcaster with Counterspell. Also try to make sure that they follow the tenets of their faith so they can’t just do whatever the hell they feel like

Metallkopf well, the demented ass-shit could be dependent on the God they worship. Like it could be that if they’re a Cleric of Pelor and the party encounters a vampire that could be helpful to them, they’re compelled to bring the wrath of the sun down on that bloodsucker despite what the party thinks, or a Cleric of the Raven Queen would feel compelled to kill someone that’s died and brought back to life too many times, perhaps a party member so there’s conflict as to whether or not they kill their “friend” to keep their powers and please their God. Or if their a Cleric of Tempus they can’t runaway from a fight unless it looks real bleak for them or go run around killing and torturing civilians.
My Cleric that I DM for can't hit any attacks, but also can't Be hit. It's astounding. I'm gonna kill them with an encounter in next week's game, but he has a Bard rolled up, ready to go when he dies, so it's a toss-up
@@bigbadbob7070 My Cleric didn't pay much attention when training to become a cleric, so he did not remember who his god was and shouted random names. Once I hit lvl 10 my DM made me choose between 1 of 3 gods, Ball, Chain, and some drunk guy that became a god by accident.

I remember the first cleric I ever made, I always ended up as the support caster so I made a tabaxi war cleric who was nicknamed “the party’s daddy” because someone introduced him as “their hot friend” and he of corse, kicked ass.
He’s the character that really gave me resect for clerics and realized that they aren’t a weak class and that they can be a really cool and strong character if built right.
Here's a trick, use the < and > keys whilst the video is paused and you can go by frame by frame.

My first dnd character that I still play is a cleric. Didn't know what the class was. My dm told me that it was underpowered. With the power of newbie creativity, Bahamut, and ridiculous stats. I make him very very upset about his encounters ending after two rounds 😂

Eh, clerics were still quite good to great in 3.5/pathfinder/4e if I recall correctly, though I haven’t looked at anything before that with them
howlingarmadillo if you think Clerics were worse in earlier editions, thin You have never heard of the dreaded CoDzilla or the fact that Death domain Clerics made better Necromancers than Wizards in earlier editions.
Both guides are accurate, it's just a matter of which edition of DnD you're playing. Welcome to the world of RPG game balance where because nobody wants to play the healer, but the designers assumed every party would have one, the healer now has to be able to be so customizable that they basically get to take the other class' Legos and build their own tree-fort of a class out of them.

Cleric's were always versatile. but because of modern memes and bad players in MMO game play, they assume clerics are nothing but healers. Even back in Advanced and 2nd era, clerics were powerful.

@Lance Clemings I think divine sorcerer would be your best option anyways. Because you dont need to be religious for that but have access to the moveset. Plus the fact you have access to two spell lists is amazing!
Tho I recomend trying cleric sometime. They got some neat abilities
Life cleric, heavy armour, bond spell and sheild of faith... watch as the party does nothing without you
How on earth would they even get that idea, they are the strongest level 1 class in the GAME! You have the highest damage spells, you have healing, you have the highest possible early AC, aside from a fighter specialized in it, you have more hp than a wizard and you get your class feature right off the bat.

I play a Light Cleric but I made up other characters that were his friends in his temple to put under the Organizations and Allies section and they're all different domains of the same god. They're a Human War Cleric, a Goblin Forge Cleric, a Lizardfolk Knowledge Cleric, and my Tiefling Light Cleric.
FINALLY!!! Took me 40 tries and almost breaking my space key to time it right, but I finally caught the right frame for the laptop message!
