Hi! Sorry, new to D&D here. And by new I mean I played one 3 hr session and thought the DM role was so bad*@ss that I want to make it my main role! 2 things. 1 I had no idea a D&D party could go passed 7 players! 2 Why wouldn't people want to DM? It's the most diverse role!
@@Sarah.j.Holzapfel People don’t want to DM because their job is to make the entire story for the campaign. Sure, you can use a pre-made campaign, but lots of times players will do things that can derail the entire story, and you have to improv on the fly. The more players you have, the faster you have to think on your feet, to the point DMing can be crazy stressful. Edit: Also, you have to figure out the enemies they face are depending on their levels, classes, etc., because if you pick poorly they’ll either steamroll the campaign or all be killed every other session.
Ngl, I was kinda hoping that Matt would be throwing foam noodles at JoCrap from the corner of his living room for not allowing the players to have agency.
Just to add my 2 cents on you taking an indefinite break: This series brought me to DnD. Its the first time ever I am deeply invested in a hobby for more than a few weeks. I thank you for that. I hope you will do well!
Amazing how closely Matt has been tied to DnD, despite him not having anything to do with Wizards of the coast... I mean, maybe he does now, certainly would be a smart move by Wizards, but you know what I mean.
I was about to say "hey, what about the quiet people who just kinda sink into the background?" Then I realized there's a human fighter who says nothing the entire session Perfection
@@mayathemayar4469 I think that mainly depends on who you play with and what type of D&D. I'm assuminng your playing with randoms or not close friends. You don't need to be speaking all the time but you'll probably have more fun just asking to do stuff since most of the crazy and fun stuff happens in D&D out of combat. Though the level of craziness does depend on if the people there are there for fun for intense roleplay or a power trip.
Oh man, after watching the video I was going to make exactly this joke (with "hold my sword&shield" instead of potted wiggler tho) but now I can't. Here, take my begrudging like.
Agreed as soon as I realized that the party size was becoming more of a mercenary company rather than an Adventurers party, i knew there was going to be chaos. i was not disappointed
I've watched this several times since it came out, and it still makes me tear up a bit at the end. As someone who's been playing D&D for about 20 years, I can say that little else compares to the feeling of a table vibing together, having a great time, and cheering each other on. And this video always reminds me of the countless awesome times I've had with a group both as a PC and as DM.
If he want me to conform to basic character background skill correlation he better start recording more Overwatch lines. I am gone ''pirate drow druid'' till my ''clockwork angel barkeeper'' snuffs out the sun, And its gonne take a whole lot of noodle.
Rewatching this, and the "you can certainly try" followed by the dice roll (is that a nat 20?) hit me really hard this time. Genius writing right there.
At first I was like ‘Hey! The Unexpectables! That’s a nice lil cameo’ Then it was ‘oh shit is that Sips? FELIX? *ABSERD?* *Z E E?* ‘ And after that... it spiralled out of control
This is without a doubt one of my favorite videos on youtube , every now and again when D&D night gets close , i rewatch it , its a good reminder on how i can do a better job being a DM , thank you so much !
Which four players? My experience is that this stuff happens with as few as two PCs. Lots of debate, lots of flavor but no action within the game mechanics. Also, no respect for irl time. A party will usually beat an encounter faster, irl, by just reading their character sheet before announcing an easy to adjudicate move that already exists in the rulebook. Taking 20 minutes to explain, ask questions, figure out what to roll, only to fail anyway. Is not fun.

I one ran a weekly 13 player game, sure it wasn't 30, but I never found it hard to keep things focused... (We play pathfinder mind you) and the campaign lasted 3 months before I was forced to move. We're all still good friends but they split into 2 groups and I run a 2x/month roll20 game for the DMS. I'm sure it's all in jest and meme but it looks like DnD players are massively chaotic lol. And if you don’t come back, know that you’ve changed the TTRPG space for the better. You got me into dnd, and I thank you for that.
Best of luck, Jocat
You know, for a 30+ player session, that actually went very smoothly.
i tried DM'ing a game with 14 players at once. can confirm that shit goes bad real fast... well at least for the first three... five... thirteen sessions.

True I have had a 50 player session 🥲
This man really got Matthew Mercer in his video, holy shit.

When the f*ck did the blind dragonborn get a gun? I don't remember giving him a gun! Has he always had a gun?
Should have looked at his character sheet, they had the feat Gunner the whole time! (it's a feat from the new book Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything)
Of course the blind guy is the one with a gun

I love this because it’s so accurate and demonstrates why I don’t want to be in a game with more than four players.
Is not fun.
An honor to be a small part
