    I'd put the filter just outside the tent and add another duct from the output of the filter into the tent. Then you can change the filter without opening the tent and youll have more space inside

    • @Ardilla88
      @Ardilla88 2 года назад

      I was just thinking the exact same thing. I am thinking on how I can build a filter like that out of plywood. Making the seals would be fairly easy.

    • @BraveWW
      @BraveWW 2 года назад

      @@Ardilla88 one thing to keep in mind is the surface area of the filter. If you see the one in the video, his filter goes at a diagonal in the box, which increases the size of the filter. Many would probably shrink the filter for size, but a bigger filter will stay clean longer and have less air resistance in-line.

    • @Ardilla88
      @Ardilla88 2 года назад

      @@BraveWW I was thinking more of creating a small plywood box that would house something like cabin air filter for a car or something a lot smaller. You could always just put two of them.

    You can reduce noise and improve the input and output airflow switching flexible ducts by smooth rigid plastic ducts. The ribbing creates resistance to airflow which reduces efficiency/performance and increases noise.

    That exhaust will be heating the intake air before it even hits the rig....

  • @jtravaglini
    @jtravaglini 2 года назад

    You wont need an active intake. If you get another 6" fan there will be enough negative pressure inside the tent that it will pull the air into the tent threw that filter. I am in PA also but I dont pull my air from the outside for my tent. I let it intake form the two side screens. Right now I dont have room in my tent for a filter system like you have. I have too much stuff inside the tent but the screens on the side are decent. I may look at a filter system like you have if I can find a smaller one. Or it is fairly a simple design I could build it.

  • @iAmEbolaWoT
    @iAmEbolaWoT 2 года назад +1

    Your intake is going to pull hot air from the the exhaust and from the heat supplied by that window AC unit. I would fix that before you throw in 12 GPUs.
    Personally, I would remove the AC unit, and move the intake to the bottom.
    Or...set the AC to the lowest setting, and pull your intake directly from that.

    • @iAmEbolaWoT
      @iAmEbolaWoT 2 года назад

      @@xidney_ It depends on the standing temperature differential. If there is enough airflow through the system the chances of condensation are lower.
      However, he did mention something about getting a de-humidifier for that tent due to the seasonal weather.
      But, I normally wouldn't recommend sending cold air into a hotbox without first passing it through a de-humidifier.

    • @xidney_
      @xidney_ 2 года назад

      @@iAmEbolaWoT got it, thank you! I have a rig setup that grabs ambient air from my living room (usually around 75-80f cooled by an ac swamp cooler) and exhausting out a window, but that leaves ambient humidity around 70%, would you recommend me using a dehumidifier or some type of cat litter filter setup to take humidity out of the intake air? Of course that would mean buying a grow tent or making an air type seal around my open air case

    not bringing in air from outside keeps me around 10-15 % humidity but its a extra draw on my central air just wont know how bad it is till a month goes by . seems like keeping it anywhere over 50% might cause rust no ? oh and im not using the filter at all just using the mesh on the sides to filter the air.

    • @TheHobbyistMiner
      @TheHobbyistMiner  2 года назад

      Based off my research you want 45-55% ambient relative humidity levels. So that is where I will be aiming for. Granted that will flucuate based off the time of year and outside air.

  • @MichaelBellini
    @MichaelBellini 2 года назад +2

    The 2 fans will not move enough air to keep the tent cool or the GPUs cool. I have 16 GPU mining Ethereum in the same tent. I have 3 intake and 2 exhaust fans
    I like the idea of the filter, but I would have to buy three of them and they are too large.

    • @Bigboss-xe6lm
      @Bigboss-xe6lm 2 года назад

      Yeah, Growtents are stupid for this purpose. So much easier to keep a big room vented instead of a small enclosure. If not, you need MASSIVE CFMs to do the work of exchanging 6x + air realtime, much noise, much money, much will fail. wow

    • @zachc2678
      @zachc2678 2 года назад

      As someone who is currently mining in a tent, I totally agree. The issue I have is that my basement is a dusty dirty mess, I pretty much have to have my GPUs enclosed so I can filter the air, or every piece of dirt and grime down there (which is basically impossible to clean, I've tried it just keeps coming) will just infest every inch of my cards. I'm filtering everything that comes in and drawing air from the room becauae it's so much cooler than the outside. I'm kinda not really sure why he's drawing hot humid air from outside, seems really counterproductive. Kinda feel like the intake and exhaust are so close together it's just going to end up sucking that hot air back in but maybe I'm wrong.

    • @MichaelBellini
      @MichaelBellini 2 года назад

      @@zachc2678 for me, I don’t have a basement, and the rest of the house is climate controlled.
      I don’t have an option of a mining dedicated room that I can close off from the rest of the house, and using my house HVAC system, or windows units is not efficient.
      So the grow tent works for me, and I seem to be replacing enough volume of air that humidity is not an issue inside the tent.
      Still looking for filter options for the intake, but since I am past the pollen season, that will be an issue for next spring to solve.
      I figure one more month before the mining rig turns into my homes heating system :)

    • @zachc2678
      @zachc2678 2 года назад

      @@MichaelBellini yeah I didn't even have to use my furnace last winter save a couple times it randomly kicked on. I had rigs kinda scattered through the house and it kept everything nice and warm. That was a huge issue as soon as the summer came though, there was no way I could keep them cool unless I turned every room into a wind tunnel (which works great but it's not practical). In my livingroom a fan on each end of the room one in each window blowing in and out respectively worked fine to move enough air to keep the GPUs cool, but it also kept the room at whatever the outside temp was and it was then impossible to run AC, so I had to move everything Into the dusty dirty basement. Hence the tent. Also worked out well because I was able to put it right next to a window for exhaust and the circuit breaker and add another line for power. Really wish I just had a nice big clean open room though. My 'intake' is passive and the filters are just some furnace filters I had sitting around. 2 small inlets just a little bit off the ground to cut down on dust is all it really needed and the ac infinity inline fan pulls enough air to keep it under control. Not a bad solution, the tent is high quality (ac infinity). Not sure what the hell I'm gonna do with it In the winter unless I just run the exhaust Into the furnace intake and let the blower do it's job. Not sure how well that will actually work though.
