  • At a men’s prison in Vacaville, California, about two dozen transgender women have been learning to live side-by-side with more than 2,000 cisgender men. Some live in huge dormitories, some in single cells. In spite of the daily challenges they face, they’re working to help change institutional policies and carve out a space where, even while incarcerated, they are free to be themselves.

When I can't personally relate to something, I try to put myself in that person's shoes so that I'm not being judgemental or closed minded. I can't imagine being beat into acting like a boy. Your parents are supposed to be your first line of defense in this world. I saw beautiful spirits and resilient people in this video. I hope they serve their time and come out into a world that's a little more tolerant.

How about they stay out of prison in the first place. Don’t do the crime and there’s no problem. I’ve never been arrested because I haven’t committed any crimes. Do you want to know why? Because I don’t want to go to prison! It’s not at at all taxing or difficult to be law abiding. 🤷🏽‍♀️

They all seemed like such nice ladies, it made me wonder how they could be in prison in the first place.
I do think that it is of paramount importance that prisons should be safe. Incarceration is the punishment, not rape or assault. It bothers me when people lash out and say : "You know what will happen to you in prison. " The prison is enough.

I've always wanted to be female, if I'm honest. I doubt very much that I'd ever go for surgery though. It would break my heart to be ostracised like some trans people are. I fear that people wouldn't see me as a woman, that they'd avoid me because I don't look like a biological woman does. I fear that instead of looking like a woman, I'd look like a freak because I have some pretty masculine features. Good for these women though, I'm glad they got awarded the humanity to be their true selves. I hope they find peace in their lives, in and out of prison.

We need to give them their own prisons. Five or six states could share there closed prisons all over USA which could be used. I been an inmate and I'm 100 percent straight and I think it's weird when straight gays do gay stuff and use prison as an excuse, to me they gay but I always respect everyone. Prison I was at had transgender women and I would call them She but alotnof guys would call them other dergortery names. My "neighbor" she was transgender and she would borrow items and always pay back plus extra on canteen day. She was nice and I would see all type of males who should be preaching on yard and then paying her on canteen day.......I wonder why.lol... I also saw a Tran woman lay out 2 southsiders

California prisons and correctional officers are breaking the California Penal Code when they house transgender women in with male inmates. California Penal Code, Section 422.56 (c) states that: "(c) “Gender” means sex, and includes a person’s gender identity and gender
expression. “Gender expression” means a person’s gender-related appearance and
behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at
birth." Thus when transgender women are housed with men in a California prison, and since the law also states that persons are to be housed with persons of the same sex, the Penal Code is being broken by the correctional officers. Why aren't the correctional officers being prosecuted for their flagrant violation of the law??

Being Transgender myself if I did a crime enough to have to go to prison I would think since I am legally female I would go to a woman's prison. That may not be the case. I know I would have to do the time for whatever I did. I can see how CIS Gendered people who have no sympathy for Transgender people in Prison do not understand at all what struggles they all had just to be themselves. I made my decision 2 1/2 years ago to Transition to female. I chose to live my life the way I wanted to and stop hiding and or fighting the loss of possible everything just to have the chance to be myself. I don't ask for your pity, but until you are in a Transgender persons situation you will always be upset with them. Wait till your friend close to you comes out Transgender, how would you feel then being so against it. Will you mind change then or will you drop them like a hot potato like your doing to these woman. Definitely was an eye opener and I would even be willing to reach out to one of them and see about arranging a meet up with the group so I can understand first hand how difficult life is. For my own perspective of how life is in and out of prison. This moved me and all the haters out there who take the time to read this and respond thank you in advance for taking the time to respond and share your hate. This is 2020, times have changed, get over it.
