I would've been terrified to pick the wrong one. When you choose and do the operation and mess it up, that has got to be HORRIBLE. Let them grow ,give them confidence like this person and let them choose after.
If anyone ever thinks that intersex is so rare that we shouldn’t talk about it or treat it like its own category, remember there are around the same amount of intersex people as there are ginger haired people.
@@JohnnyHobbs-of3ly It may considerably lower than 1.7% actually, as that estimate "includes conditions which most clinicians do not recognize as intersex, such as Klinefelter syndrome, Turner syndrome, and late-onset adrenal hyperplasia. If the term intersex is to retain any meaning, the term should be restricted to those conditions in which chromosomal sex is inconsistent with phenotypic sex, or in which the phenotype is not classifiable as either male or female. Applying this more precise definition, the true prevalence of intersex is seen to be about 0.018%" (Sax 2002). In any case, equating the intersex population with the number of people with red hair is a fallacy. It's a misrepresentation for the sake of a certain narrative.
@drstewart You must not know that Adrenal Hyperplasia and Klinefelters both influence body shape, voice, and hair among other things, which creates androgynous or male/female presenting opposite in many of their physical features. These conditions do affect the perception of these people's sex in society, and are considered intersex because, like I said, they cause opposite sex expression of certain things. Genitalia is not the only deciding factor in intersex-ness. The term intersex does in fact include chromosomal abnormalities which do not fit into a binary, and significant hormonal disorders which cause opposite sex expression. It isn't a "certain narrative" you absolute brainlet, it is real people with real experiences coming together to make the world realize that they exist, deserve respect, and that they don't have to fit into ridiculous societal boxes, which only exist to make others comfortable.

a lot of people fail to realize, confidence like this is built i. childhood, by your parents and how they treat you. If your parents talk down to you and put you down, or disempower you in some way, you WILL struggle with your confidence. If your parents talk you up and treat you as an worthy equal with agency, and don’t try make you feel bad about yourself, you’ll have this guy’s confidence, or confidence like Kanye West, etc. Your parents play a CRITICAL role in the forming of your confidence and self image. It’s not that you’re doomed once you turn 21 and realize your confidence isn’t where you’d like, but you have to give yourself grace and compassion. We did not all start off with the same resources or tools, both physically but also energetically, emotionally, spiritually.
Parents give us the building blocks to make our own houses. If you're not given those building blocks or even directions how to make them, you will struggle to make a home, let alone one that actually functions. It's not peoples fault they are insecure, scared and reactionary. That's a failure on society to both encourage parents to actually help build up their young (and give the resource and time to make sure it actually happens) and when possible, make up for parental failure in other areas. And yes, you're not doomed, but you are handicapped by and starting a lot later. Therapy can help a lot to learn to accept that your childhood wasn't what a childhood should be or should contain and that can be the first blue print on how to start those building blocks. Friends, found family etc. can also show you and give tips they (hopefully) learned too, either from their parents or also being late bloomers. Some people discover and accept this way into their life. I've seen people in their 60's come to terms with how they were treated and start new. It's never too late, but recognizing it for what it is, is the only way to move forward. You can't travel somewhere if you don't know where you are to find out where you are going.
Parents are NOT an always absolute determinate in confidence. I am living proof. It's not easy but absolutely possible there is greater source of strength and power
So true. It amazes me how that impacts your confidence into adulthood. Of course there are other ways to gain confidence but I do believe one of the most certain ways to do it is thru parental support from day one. That's a privilege I didn't realize was a privilege until I got into adulthood. I had to earn my confidence the long and hard way. Always so refreshing to see people with day 1 confidence. It's a sort of magic
I went to elementary school and had a female friend who was truly a boy. My Mom was a nurse and explained to me that she was a “hermaphadite” and what that meant. I didn’t care and we played games and had kid fun. But looking back many of the other kids didn’t play with her. Like they knew she was different. When I went to college and met someone, they were then being called intersex, she said that her parents choose what she would be and removed her penis. She told me my childhood friends parents probably did the same thing. He was blessed his parents let him figure it out for himself. Now with all the advances in DNA and catscans, etc. they should be able to see what’s more developed organ wise and still let the person choose for themselves. I remember watching something online yrs ago where a doctor told adoptive parents to remove their child’s penis and they said no. The child needed surgery and the doctor also took the penis claiming there was cancer. It was a lie and they were sueing. As he grew it was obvious he was a boy and that, that doctor had destroyed his life. Now that’s truly scary.
This is so powerful the way he takes ownership of a life he was thrown into from jump, which doesn’t sound easy. Some humans will break over this stuff.
He has such a healthy mindset and confidence (especially considering that intersex representation was probably very minimal at his time, so he paved his own pathway), I really hope he finishes that book!

I made a friend who is an intersex advocate in Uganda in the 1990s and 2000s. He did so much education work in my society. He had gone to my all girls boarding school as a teenager because he had been assigned femal at birth. When he became adult, he reassigned to male, wrote a book called _Juliette to Julius_ . When he got married, my church, which had been supportive up till then suddenly stopped being openly supportive. That broke my heart. I'll always applaud Julius' amazing work in a country where people have recently become rather closed minded.
I'm glad you shared your story. Too many people are unknowledgeable and ignorant of people being born Intersex or with DSDs as if you all don't exist or if you all are too small in number to respectfully say that there are more than two sexes which opens up the conversation of the social construct/stipulations of gender [fluidity]. @@elliee5675 I've never heard of it either, intersex is more accurately described as differences in sex development, as in most are genetically either male or female but differences can cause the way the body and reproductive organs develop to be different than what the genetic sex normally prescribes. The genetic sex usually grants one set of functioning reproductive organs, even though both or a combo might be there visually only one set actually works. I have not seen any official documentation saying that humans can be both and able to impregnate themselves or impregnate others and also become pregnant themselves. That would indeed be "diety" level stuff, not just difference in development. If it's true, it should be it's own category.

I agree. But then parents should also stop naming their children, 'Precious', Princess etc. Which is enough for them to change their name at 18.
I have an intersex child. I chose no treatment and a Gender Neutral name. No surgery no way- thats their choice ❤ I dont share which child because its not my story.
I hope my baby is this confident thank you for sharing.
Thank you for saying this - I'm so relieved to hear there are parents like you! I'm horrified by all the stories of doctors telling parents to "fix it" by picking a gender. I hope videos like this, and comments like yours, help people see that there is nothing to fix.

Everyone needs to watch this. People can't help how they were born. Intersexual people should not be shunned
Amen. God makes no mistakes.
*intersex (not sexual)
And also even if ppl could help how they were born, there's nothing wrong with being intersex. Our bodies are neutral, society adds normative
labels.
No person should shunned
Not just intersex people. Men get shamed horribly for their genitals. It's disgusting and has been normalized for some reason.
In my opinion doctors should not advise parents to choose a gender when their child is born intersex. Eventually the child will grow up and choose for themselves, like you did.
I agree down to the kids they know how they are feeling
Can't they test their chromosomes?
@@cynthiaholland13not really because some really be both
It depends on the country too
I would've been terrified to pick the wrong one.
Intersex - 1.7%
Red-haired people - 2-6%
Not quite the same.
@@drstewart many intersex people aren't comfortable telling others about it across the world, so that number may be a lot less

Its so interesting how God made us in so many different ways yet we are so judgemental, homophobic, sexist, racist and put each other in boxes. Life would be so much better if we lived in harmony and were understanding of each other.
It is wild to say one worships the creator then deny or oppresses all the beautiful creations we are. Humans are so much more than the capitalist or otherwise controlling boxes provide. To live authentically is to be free and that scares the “powerful.”

a lot of people fail to realize, confidence like this is built i. childhood, by your parents and how they treat you.
It's a sort of magic
ikr. dude got lucky his parents accepted him and let him be himself

I never knew an intersex person could produce children; especially both ways. This was very medically insightful.
Its very rare and isnt possible in both ways
Many intersex are sterile but some can have kids. Noone can impregnate themselves at all. Noone produces both eggs and sperm.
If she has a uterus and ovaries she is female 🙏🏽
Yes! And those that have both fully functioning genitalia can get themselves pregnant. 🤯
It's not possible both ways. The testes and ovaries differentiate during developing, so usually each person only has either ovaries or testes.
