Just now seeing this video. I have 20-30 absolutes. My top ones: New Frontier (absolutely!), Kingdom Come, Green Lantern-Green Arrow Neal Adams, All Star Superman, All Green Lanterns-Blackest Night, Origins and Sinestro War, Green Arrow Kevin Smith, Justice by Alex Ross, Identity Crisis, Batman Long Halloween, have many others and love them all!
The absolute TOP 10 by Alan Moore,Gene Ha & Zander Cannon is by far my favourite absolute. It has 4trade paperbacks worth of books included,TOP 10 vol 1 & 2,the spin off SMAX & the prequel TOP 10 the 49ers.The art is AMAZING in the format, the actual stories are AMAZING.You get the point IT IS AMAZING!To be fair I only own 5 absolutes,V for Vendetta,Frank Millers RONIN,Watchmen,The Killing Joke & TOP 10.Their all gr8 but TOP 10 gets the gold medal!
Nice list. My would be: Fourth World Swamp Thing New Frontier Watchmen All Star Superman Kingdom Come Loeb/Sale Batman Daytripper V For Vendetta Batman: Year One Also, I’d love to see an Absolute Superman: Red Son and Superman For All Seasons.
I only have 3 absolutes as of rn, with 2 more in the mail, I gotta say though I love all of the ones in my collection so far. I have absolute watchmen, absolute justice league origins and my favorite absolute Batman Arkham asylum, really fell in love w that one while I was reading the annotated script. I have kingdom come and killing joke in the mail rn and I’m really really eye balling preacher lol.
Another interesting video, Mike! Sorry haven't kept up w/ur guys' channel the last several days; have had a Crohn's flare-up. Still not feeling great, but much better today. First thing I want to state-- as Idk if I've stated it before or not, but should have-- is that ur videos like this combine professionalism w/an inviting, "fireside chat"-kind of vibe that I really like! They inform the viewer about comics in some way, but do so in a less formal fashion-- letting them get to know a little more about u & ur feelings about, experiences with, & thoughts on comics; & then inviting them to reciprocate w/their own thoughts & feelings relating to the subject being discussed in the video. This creates a more rewarding experience for the viewer, as it fosters an environment that welcomes & encourages participation; which, in turn generates more enthusiasm for more of ur videos! As I said before, ur videos are professional & inviting. This video is a great example. It comes across as well-made & edited(there's obviously been thought put into it, & that thought has been organized in such a way that when u speak, ur thoughts are expressed in a cohesive & succinct manner; I also luv the smooth tilting shots used to showcase the Absolutes & some of their interior pages more up-close!). It is informative w/u stating the writers & artists for each book & describing their physical qualities(cover material, paper material, etc). U also either briefly reminisce &/or give a concise & passionate reason or anecdote that lets us know ur personal experience w/each book(explaining ur connection to it/how u feel about it/what got u into it/etc). As for this video feeling inviting, one example would simply be the way in which u speak. While ur thoughts are expressed in a cohesive & succinct manner when u speak, ur voice & body language ensure they are delivered in a smooth, relaxed, easy-going fashion w/out losing any of ur passion & improvisation which is another strong suit of yours that keeps ur videos from feeling overly rehearsed & scripted. And then u finish w/an invitation to ur viewers, asking us to tell u which Absolutes we would never part with. I have always loved the way yours & Matt's enthusiasm & luv for the medium always comes across in ur videos! It's genuine & it's contagious[I have the same passion for comics, but it's not only cool to see another person w/that same passion... it really is contagious: like when I'm done typing this I'm probably going to break out my "Absolute Preacher: Book l" in all its gloriously faux-Bible-like appearance & begin re-reading it, lol!]! I know this wasn't very concise... but my comments rarely are.🙄 As far as what Absolutes I would never get rid of: I only own the 3-volume "Absolute Preacher" set & the "Absolute Batman: The Court of Owls". But I never want to part w/them! "Batman: The Court of Owls" is my favorite Batman story of all-time. "Preacher" is the 1st non-superhero comic I ever discovered(many, many yrs ago when I was still a young man & didn't badly pull a muscle simply reaching behind my back, 😄). It opened up a whole new world for me of what comics could be! And I "Absolutely"😉 loved it! It's one if the best stories I've ever read!😊 I have seen "Sandman"(Absolute or not)sighted by soooooo many people as being so incredible. My only experience w/the series was a TPB I found at the library yrs ago. It wasn't the 1st volume, so that could've been the problem; but I just couldn't really get into it-- it seemed confusing & disjointed.🤔 I've always wanted to give it another try, & having seen ur comments on it here, I definitely want to give it another go, as I know u have great taste(ur list of 10 Absolutes here are-- apart from the 3 I haven't read-- stories I luv as well & would like to have in Absolute format!), which sometimes aligns w/my own! Could u tell me a proper introductory place to start reading "Sandman"? Is it best read in chronological order, i.e. start w/volume 1? Any guidance would be most welcome! Thanx, Mike!👍🏻
Chewy 16 First off, I hope you’re feeling better since you posted this! Thank you so much for the kind kind words, I’m glad I can spread the infectious happiness that comics have given me! They’re one of the only hobbies I have and I have always enjoyed talking comics, any time any day. I’m very glad you enjoy the videos and I appreciate the feedback! I’m a big fan of The Court of Owls as well! It was a nice exploration of Gotham, adding some new history to it while giving Batman a run for his money as the dark knight. And that Capullo artwork... WOW. My only hesitation with picking that up was that we would not get the entire Snyder/Capullo run in absolute format, which I would have loved. Start with Sandman #1 or Vol 1! It does get disjointed at times, as it doesn’t always follow traditional story arcs. However, it’s easy to tell what is a one shot and enjoy the ride, the lesson and insight being provided. Neil Gaiman has the type of brain I wish I had, and his dialogue is always master class!
@@TheHardcoverComicThanx, Mike! Yeah, I'm feeling quite a bit better now. I really appreciate ur concern. Means a lot. And I truly meant what I said in my last comment, so ur most welcome! I literally just posted a comment on a video Matt did of the Top 10 books he regrets selling. He listed "The Sixth Gun" Dlx Eds., & I told him I had talked to u not that long ago about how much I luv "The Sixth Gun" & that u mentioned he had sold all of his Dlx Eds. & kinda regretted doing so. I told him just the other day I ran into "The Sixth Gun" colorist, Bill Crabtree, here on RUclips by random luck[I meant to tell him it was by seeing his name in the "Comments" section of a video I was watching on the channel, @earl gray & asking him if he was Bill Crabtree the colorist. @earl grey is a cool channel; u may be familiar w/it. The guy does some really nice reviews, assessments & analyzations, favorites, etc of comic book trades, HCs, any "bound" form of comics. It's a cool channel. He's quite knowledgeable about comics & he's European & has a lot of European stuff I've never been exposed to, which is nice!] Anyways, yeah, an Absolute of the entire Snyder/Capullo "Batman" would've been really nice! Capullo w/Glapion & Plasencio really made Gotham(Snyder's writing, too; but those visuals🤤) a character all its own, in a way I can't really remember it ever being done before! And I, too, was *very* much a fan of how the Court pushed Bruce to his limits! They pretty much beat Bats down(physically, & psychologically, & emotionally) to one if his lowest places. But that's what made the story so much more fun & inspirational/moving... the way Bruce came back from & overcame it! For me, it's one of the best aspects of both the "Knightfall" storyline & "The Dark Knight Rises" film... Bruce being broken, but having the inner strength/fortitude, the sheer will to never give up! I know a fair amount of people see "TDKR" as the least best film in the Nolan-Batman trilogy; but I've never held that opinion. It wasn't perfect, but I don't think the other 2 films are *perfect* either. I luv them all equally for some reasons that are the same & some that are different. Bruce overcame adversity in each film. And while Bruce was definitely broken by Joker in "TDK", u really don't feel the full impact of how broken he was until watching "TDKR". And then things just *really* pile on, one after another after another! His body, mind, & spirit were basically broken from the word "go" of that film. Then he hears the truth about Rachel from Alfred, which leads to a falling out w/him. Then he basically loses his money & company. Then he geys betrayed by Selina. Then Bane mocks him as he beats the crap out of him, before finally jacking up his back, leaving him unable to hardly move due to a herniated disc. And then he has to watch Gotham be torn down on tv in a prison-pit. And then he is given hope to climb out w/the rope... but repeatedly fails. Then, *finally* that goosebump-inducing(for me, anyway)scene where he decides he has one way out & that's to "make the jump" w/out the rope! Do or die! It's so moving! So for me, "The Court of Owls" shared some of that DNA of having to come back from the brink. Awesome story w/incredible art! Thank u for the advice on "Sandman". I was in a kind of weird, angry place when I first gave it a try-- & it was not volume 1-- & I just kind of gave up after reading 10 or 15 pages. I truly think the more "balanced" me will really enjoy it! I've heard it is often quite deep & philosophical, which I would definitely welcome! So when I can, I'll be starting w/volume 1. I have 1 quick question for u: Do u know what the deal is w/Amazon? I have a Prime membership, so I get free 2-day shipping(occasionally 1 ir even same day shipping). Lately, some days I've looked at items(books) in my cart that are "In Stock" & they say "Extended delivery time: This item currently takes longer to ship." And the estimated delivery date for them will be like 30 days! Then other days I'll check & the same items will say the same thing about "Extended delivery time" yet they will say the estimated delivery date is the next day, just 1 day!?! I know it has to have something to do w/the Coronavirus situation, but I just can't figure out exactly what it is that would alter it he delivery date so vastly from one day to the next? It's not a big deal. There's more to worry about than getting a few graphic novels from Amazon.😄 Just thought I'd ask ya if u might know how Amazon is operating right now. Idk if it's a definite factor or not, but I live in a state where the governor has declared a "lock down", & am still trying to figure out how that would affect a delivery service like Amazon. And I've had the thought that it might not be the best idea to even order something that could be handled by someone w/the virus if I DO get the package in 1 or 2 days since the most recent evidence I can find states the virus can survive on some surfaces for days. Idk, just thought I'd ask! Thanx, Mike! Stay safe!😊👍🏻
Wow, those preacher hardcovers look amazing, may have to save up for them, my original complete set of TPBs was borrowed and stolen a few years ago. If I ever catch up wirh the guy he's getting some custer-style justice.
Awesome list. I agree with you completely. In my personal list I would add Absolute JLA/Avengers Crossover by Busiek and Perez, Absolute Arkham Asylum, Batman Court of the Owls.
The the sandman sewn? Because my only experience in absolute is for tomorrow and it opened up the first few pages for that stack to just flop off the side. The damn things spine broke despite me flexing it and resting it gently flipping it a few times aswell. So much TLC and it broke
I only own one Absolute and that`s Saga of The Swamp Thing. Even though I have the singles, seeing Totleben`s at this scale is a must. The re-coloring is great as well. It won`t be my last. All the books on your list are beautiful.
My DC Absolute Edition wishlist: Absolute Ronin Absolute Dark Knight Returns Absolute Batman Year One Absolute V for Vendetta Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earth's Absolute Batman Killing Joke
I dont have a lot of absolute editions...yet. But my favorite comic EVER that actually brought me back to the world of comics is Invincible. I started with the 12 ultimate editions but have acquired the "absolute" editions with slip covers that I love and unfortunately they never finished after the 3rd edition. 😭 hate when they do that...just like the Spawn hardcovers....so disappointing. Anyway, great video!!
That’s an Absolute I’ll be looking to get,I love Frank Quietlys art & Morrison’s fresh take on a character who’s been done to death.I just hope it isn’t a whale, out of print book that costs well into triple figures like ALOT of Absolutes are selling for nowadays
I think it’s an excellent list. All of those which I have read, I really like (in fact the only one I have not read is Kingdom Come) And so far I only own two sets of absolute additions, and those are Sandman and the Authority. Both, as you say, very beautiful.
Fantastic selections. Wow I just finished your video. I only have 2 Absolute Editions in my collection. Book 1 of Swamp Thing and Superman. Now you have me looking at Sandman. Absolutes are not in realm right now but if you have any opinion on these omnibus Editions I would love to know what you think. They look gorgeous. I've never read Sandman and am very interested now. Thanks!
I am wanting to sell some but I don’t know where to go! I am not a collector but they were given to me. They are Oversized Hardcover Marvel Zombies and Oversized Hardcover The Infinity Gauntlet.
I'd have to add V for Vendetta. After buying that and seeing the difference in artwork to the tpb I felt embarrassed even giving it away. It's phenomenal.
I would never sell the following+reasons Absolute Killing Joke: because today, it is impossible to find original paperbacks of the story where John Higgins is the colorist. Higgins coloring added so much that that story and I have a personal connecting to that original version, and the absolute catered to that perfectly. To be fair. I wouldn’t sell any of my absolutes, but the killing joke one was really nice and unexpected when I got it
Promethea Vol. I-III TOP 1O Sandman Overtue(the others are fantastic but this is by far the best) Crisis on Infinite Earths New Frontier League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. I & II Absolute Watchmen(shame that they didn't let Jihn Higgin do the new colours on Killing joke like he did here. Kind of a slap in the face) Justice League: The World's Greatest Superheroes Kingdom Come Justice
I’d add Green Lantern Green Arrow, Black Mirror. I’d like to get Justice. I just didn’t feel Sandman, and I bought all five Absolutes. Also like, not love Preacher.
Just Me V for Vendettas ABSOLUTE edition makes the art look amazing, especially the colouring which I didn’t like on the TPB,it’s also far more enjoyable for me with the oversized text,I found it hard to read many times on the trade paperback BUT BE WARNED!!The spine gave way on mine while on just my 2nd read through,so be very gentle because I’ve seen online that I’m not alone with the Absolute V’ spine. The pages are sewn in aswell as glued so the pages aren’t going to fall out completely but it looks crap with gaps between the pages & really does piss you off when these books aren’t that cheap so I expect more.It is the only absolute that has a broken spine out of the 5 absolutes that I own
Absolute fables is coming soon. I just finished reading the deluxe editions. it's so tough not to want to double dip. but the deluxe editions are great quality....
I think there’s been talk of softcover compendiums, like image does with TWD and Saga, but for fables. Shame man...but you’re right there’s hope since swamp thing was canceled 80 times hah
David Robertson I don't like compendiums. suuuuper susceptible to ware. I mean, really.... for the price point of a compendium it's worth just getting a hardcover.
David Robertson I really want 100 bullets and dmz absolutes. solely because the deluxe are out of print, I don't do tpb, and omnibus are too big to comfortably hold
My Top 5 Favorite DC Series - 5. Super Sons [2016] - 99.99996/100 4. Green Lantern : New Guardians [2011] - 99.99997/100 3. Aquaman [2011] - 99.99998/100 2. Flash [2011] - 99.99999/100 1. Justice League [2011] - 100/100 Great video by the way. Thanks for clicking read more!
The Hardcover Comic see, I feel it is unfair to put distributors through that when it isn't there fault. I feel like DC should be footing that cost. but they conveniently have sparse contact info on their websites.
@@boredinibiza all the absolute editions I’ve received from Amazon came in the form fitted box that then gets packaged within an Amazon box. This is only when buying directly from Amazon. If it’s a third party seller on Amazon, you’re rolling the dice
i hate silver age superman i LOVE all star superman my personal favorite superman story is superman for all season but even i have to admit all star superman is genius
I forgot how fantastic Grant Morrison’s All Star Superman book is - so definitely will pick up Absolute edition ! Have Alan Moore’s Top Ten Absolute honestly it’s a sheer Godzilla sized beast about thirty pounds quite unwieldy but it’s Alan Moore !!! My wishlist I must say in Absolute is his From Hell work there’s an expensive $300 hardcopy out there , well worth it and a cheap $40 hardcover edition for that work it’s all or nothing like holy ****! Have all three Alan Moore Swamp Things and yes- Frank Millers Dark Knight Returns HIS ROBIN is the ONLY TRUE Robin a “Tom boy” before LGBTQ became the country’s chosen people they have Obama as Moses only other thing they need is an Old Testament Exodus book.
The Sandman: Overture Absolute is stunning!!! It’s just a gorgeous piece of art in itself. Then there’s the story!
Yes
Just now seeing this video. I have 20-30 absolutes. My top ones: New Frontier (absolutely!), Kingdom Come, Green Lantern-Green Arrow Neal Adams, All Star Superman, All Green Lanterns-Blackest Night, Origins and Sinestro War, Green Arrow Kevin Smith, Justice by Alex Ross, Identity Crisis, Batman Long Halloween, have many others and love them all!
I much proffered The Dark Knight Strikes Back to Master Race personally.
The absolute Swamp Thing presentation is gorgeous, and the story telling is incredible! I cant wait to collect all 3 volumes.
A great top 10, it shows what dc can do in terms of quality of storytelling
Nice list. My would be:
Fourth World
Swamp Thing
New Frontier
Watchmen
All Star Superman
Kingdom Come
Loeb/Sale Batman
Daytripper
V For Vendetta
Batman: Year One
Also, I’d love to see an Absolute Superman: Red Son and Superman For All Seasons.
I gotta put Frank Miller's Ronin on the list. Incredible artwork, just mind-blowing.
Great to see this line up! Thanks
Never say never becuase u don't know what life will throw at you in the future, u have an awesome collection

Man, I really need to get Absolute Y: The Last Man. I've seen them and they look so beautiful
Great video. I think you mentioned you are in Canada. I’m also in Canada (Toronto). Where do you buy absolute editions from?
Awesome list. I agree with you completely. In my personal list I would add Absolute JLA/Avengers Crossover by Busiek and Perez, Absolute Arkham Asylum, Batman Court of the Owls.

Great video man. DC is great with the absolutes, their omnis are sometimes rough with the binding though.
Currently I only own 4 absolute editions. Batman Hush, Sinestro Corp War, Blackest Night & Wild Cats. I do plan to add more but so far, thtas it.
Absolute Superman for Tomorrow
I only have Darwyn cooke's absolute new frontier and I love it!
I only own one Absolute and that`s Saga of The Swamp Thing. Even though I have the singles, seeing Totleben`s at this scale is a must. The re-coloring is great as well. It won`t be my last. All the books on your list are beautiful.
My DC Absolute Edition wishlist:
Absolute Ronin
Absolute Dark Knight Returns
Absolute Batman Year One
Absolute V for Vendetta
Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earth's
Absolute Batman Killing Joke
I dont have a lot of absolute editions...yet. But my favorite comic EVER that actually brought me back to the world of comics is Invincible. I started with the 12 ultimate editions but have acquired the "absolute" editions with slip covers that I love and unfortunately they never finished after the 3rd edition. 😭 hate when they do that...just like the Spawn hardcovers....so disappointing. Anyway, great video!!
Spawn is coming back
I just ordered Absolute All Star Superman the other day, never read it before and I can’t wait!
You will love it. Great story and the art is dope aswell.
andrus kungla yeah I really enjoyed it. A little slow but overall one of my favorite reads this year I’ll definitely reread it
@@gregrome6842 it was bitter sweet. Made me so nostalgic. Superman is such a great character when done right.
That’s an Absolute I’ll be looking to get,I love Frank Quietlys art & Morrison’s fresh take on a character who’s been done to death.I just hope it isn’t a whale, out of print book that costs well into triple figures like ALOT of Absolutes are selling for nowadays
socillizt4life I think it’s oop now. I liked it but I feel like it wasn’t a good place to start Superman
My top 5 in random order are Sandman, V for Vendetta, Preacher, Watchmen and of course All Star Superman!
I agree with Preacher, Kingdom Come, and Sandman. I would add Absolute Watchmen.
Do you have any suggestions for plastic bags/covers for absolute hardcovers, I can't seem to find any.
I'd have to add V for Vendetta. After buying that and seeing the difference in artwork to the tpb I felt embarrassed even giving it away. It's phenomenal.
Ofc
I would never sell the following+reasons
Absolute Killing Joke: because today, it is impossible to find original paperbacks of the story where John Higgins is the colorist. Higgins coloring added so much that that story and I have a personal connecting to that original version, and the absolute catered to that perfectly.
To be fair. I wouldn’t sell any of my absolutes, but the killing joke one was really nice and unexpected when I got it
I wsih it was 2 books like year one
@@turtleanton6539 me too
I have the first collector edition of watchman.
I gotten it signed by both Alan Moore and Brian Bolland
I never selling it
Besides Sandman and Preacher I would have to go with Killing joke, black mirror and Daytripper.
Absolute and spawn deluxe are must have
Promethea Vol. I-III
TOP 1O
Sandman Overtue(the others are fantastic but this is by far the best)
Crisis on Infinite Earths
New Frontier
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. I & II
Absolute Watchmen(shame that they didn't let Jihn Higgin do the new colours on Killing joke like he did here. Kind of a slap in the face)
Justice League: The World's Greatest Superheroes
Kingdom Come
Justice
Great list. I would have taken Kingdom Come off and added Y the Last man
I’d add Green Lantern Green Arrow, Black Mirror. I’d like to get Justice. I just didn’t feel Sandman, and I bought all five Absolutes. Also like, not love Preacher.
I thought Preacher was funny as hell but Sandman was just too long.
Do u keep your Absolute slipcase protected too
With all the Absolute Editions that have come out since this up-load, has your 'never sell' top ten changed at all ?
Gosh I hope Absolute The Long Halloween will get a reprint soon
Hmm... mine is fables loved it.
Hi love your channel
I have question
Is there V for Vendetta absolute edition??
There is!
The pages are sewn in aswell as glued so the pages aren’t going to fall out completely but it looks crap with gaps between the pages & really does piss you off when these books aren’t that cheap so I expect more.It is the only absolute that has a broken spine out of the 5 absolutes that I own
Anyone know if Mike is still posting content elsewhere?
Kingdom come
Batman and Robin
All Star Superman
JLA/AVENGERS
Final Crisis
Infinite Crisis
Watchmen
Batman Inc
Preacher, Y the Last Man, Long Halloween and Killing Joke. And sandman of course.
Absolute fables is coming soon. I just finished reading the deluxe editions. it's so tough not to want to double dip. but the deluxe editions are great quality....
Link to source?
kyle matthiesen it was on newsarama, then it got cancelled in December. but swamp thing was cancelled like 2 or 3 times before it came out, so...

Great video by the way.
Thanks for clicking read more!
my swamp thing volume came with half the book unglued to the ribbon. sucks.
Joseph Olsen Damn that sounds horrible... mine has been surprisingly solid so far, but I had to get 2 replacements through amazon lol
The Hardcover Comic see, I feel it is unfair to put distributors through that when it isn't there fault. I feel like DC should be footing that cost. but they conveniently have sparse contact info on their websites.
DC needs to stop and start those again from scratch...
@@TheHardcoverComic does amazon strip the absolute out of it's protective box or they ship complete with it?
@@boredinibiza all the absolute editions I’ve received from Amazon came in the form fitted box that then gets packaged within an Amazon box. This is only when buying directly from Amazon. If it’s a third party seller on Amazon, you’re rolling the dice
I only own 11 Absolutes so one would have to go hahaha.
I never sell my comics/graphic novels and you are talking about Absolute versions...
How is Watchmen not on this?!
Sigh... Absolute all-star batman and robin never gets any love...
Never owned it! I barely remember what happens in that book haha

pick up Absolute edition ! Have Alan Moore’s Top Ten Absolute honestly it’s a sheer Godzilla sized beast about thirty pounds quite unwieldy but it’s Alan Moore !!! My wishlist I must say in Absolute is his From
Hell work there’s an expensive $300 hardcopy out there , well worth it and a cheap $40 hardcover edition for that work it’s all or nothing like holy ****!
