Haven't got myself an Absolute yet. I've been debating what I want my first to be. Thinking about Hush, Watchmen, or maybe Preacher Volume 1. At the moment I'm leaning toward Preacher as it is just so beautiful. Really enjoyed this video, Marcus. WOOF.
I Got into comics and absolutes earlier this year, and own both Preacher and Hush. Hush is an alright story, really beautiful art. But…. Preacher is something else. Preacher has become one of my favorite stories in a very short amount of time. It’s gory, evil, provocative and awesome. It has a great cast of characters and I’ll promise you’ll fall in love with them despite how awful they are. I currently own three versions of Watchmen, except the Absolute but I would consider that a must buy too.
@@kirederf7862 Yeah I've already read Preacher, Hush, and Watchmen and love all three, that's why I was considering one of those for my first absolute. I wouldn't spend all the money on an absolute if I didn't already love the story.
Thank you mate, and I bet you're glad Watchmen made it onto this list! I may do more like this, so hit me up if you have any suggestions! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
@@MaddoggComics I’ve never heard of Watchmen. I’m too busy for comics as I just completed my Ph.D at Princeton in atomic physics....kidding yes I certainly agree with that choice! Cheers!
I've never been much of a fan of the Joker but I recently got the Absolute Killing Joke as my first ever absolute, I got it for just less than £30 and it was so worth it
Great video dude 🙂 after buying pb/OHC and Omnibus's for the last 4 years, iv finally made the jump to buying Absolute editions with the dark knight returns and swamp thing. It was totally worth it 🙂
absolute swamp thing does smell wonderful. i loved the smell like I have from the first days of buying my fine books, but I didn't notice personally how much i enjoyed the smell of this particular book. hunh. funny. "subscribe" button punched. (I am Not calling for a best smelling editions review btw.)
Nice list, bro. Batman Hush is high up on my list as well. I would have added Sinestro Corps War or Blackest Night as well as Justice or Kingdom Come. Top 10 by Alan Moore is a good one as well.
Oh I just got into Absolutes (and similar formats), such as Big Damn, Hellboy Library ed and Batman: Court of Owls. The first one I bought, though, was Swamp Thing Vol 1. The smell! I love the quality of the HC and the smell. And how well it fits with the content. I like Alan Moores writing, but the stories were very varied in quality and I don't enjoy most of the art. The smell helped take it to another level though haha. I'll have to get Watchmen next. A while ago I read the TPB. Sure it would be great in large format.
WOOF WOOF! This list is so good and you sold me on the absolute Batman Hush, Black Mirror and Preacher! I enjoy ur content so much and it always makes my day better! Keep going dogg Ps: you should do more top 10 videos because I think it’s something that everybody enjoys!
I picked up the Omnis, Death was long out of print before I wanted buy the series haha! They are beautiful though! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Great list! Haven't had an absolute because I don't have much money yet ao only focusing on omnis and deluxe editions right now but when I do, I'll probably buy these as well haha
Concerning The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, you should look at Jess Nevis’ website of comic book annotations. There are literally thousands of literary references in the series often in the backgrounds or foregrounds of the panels. It’s so dense a work and most of it flies over your head until you start looking at these annotations. I’m planning on rereading at some point in the future.
Got myself a copy of Absolute Batman Hush because of this! They're pretty cheap used! Gotta have Absolute Sandman on my list - interested to hear why you didn't put that on yours?
I totally agree about the absolute format generally being the best of all the collected editions, although I would also put the Dark Horse Library editions at the same level as they are basically Absolute editions without slipcases. As far as the list goes, I’m a fan of all of your Choices but no Sandman?!?! Not even and honorable mention?!?!
A lot of yours would be on my list too, all star Superman, new frontier, killing joke. For me Y the last man is number one because it’s my favorite series ever probably
Absolute Batman Hush was the first comic book I purchased in my whole life. Never could afford comics as a child but from 2007, a few years into a well paying job I have never looked back. Hush still has my favourite art. I own all the other Absolutes aswell but not a fan of the art in the likes of watchmen, kingdom come, new frontier, dark knight returns etc. Jim Lee style art is my favourite alongside Silvestri from Top Cow.
Nice list, I'm not sure I'm going to buy the absolutes but it highlighted a few stories I've not read yet; Black Mirror looking really interesting. I'm one of those that wasn't a huge fan of Hush, it's fine and I also didn't like All Star Superman, the story and the art just didn't click for me.
Are you wanting the Power Girl volume 2 run drawn by Amanda Conner on absolute? That would be cool, that runs paperbacks are quite expensive these days so it needs a reprint or at least a deluxe edition
Hi. I am also totally in the Absolutes. Just of recently i got the new frontier 15th anniversary edit and the all star superman. my personal favorite is the kingdom come book, absolutely (sic) beautyfull. Greetings!
Hello again and thanks for your answer. At the time I have 14 of the absolutes, most of them in first printing, its loeg vol. 1 & 2, authority 1 & 2, planetary 1, dc greatest superheroes, as mentioned above kc, miller's dark knight, hush, all * star supes, new frontier (which is my personal fav), and then there be crisis on inf earths and the jla/avengers...guess i didn't miss one...so my most humble greetings and best regards from vienna, austria. Stay healthy.
Great video Dogg, as always! I can't fault your list... but also it's definitely not the same as mine would be! There's actually so many absolutes... you kind of forget how many they've done now! I won't go over what my list would have been, I'll probably steal this idea and do my own video at some point. So thanks in advance, Zoom! :P I have no idea why I don't own Absolute New Frontier...that seems like a massive oversight on my part! I'm also very torn on getting Absolute Watchmen... I kind of feel like I love it so much that I should own it in that format... but also I have/have had it in so many formats already I think that always puts me off... like I can't justify buying Watchmen...again! I really wish you could get a version of The Dark Knight Returns without The Dark Knight Strikes Again. I get that at the time, it made sense to collect all of it to qualify it as "absolute"... but it's been invalidated since then really once they started going back to that universe for other stories. I would love to see a kind of sequel to this video for what stories you would like to get collected in absolute format that haven't been yet. I also echo the statement by Zoom down below that your list videos are great, and everyone loves them. So keep them coming! And with the sense of smell being a massively important thing to a Dogg, you totally need to do a top 10 smelling books video! I know I'm not the only one that would love that :P
i slept on the black mirror one too and dick is my favorite DC character and black mirror is both one of my favorite dick grayson story and one of my favorite batman stories. now i am sad
I don’t own many absolutes I have preacher, batman hush & danger girl I like that one comes with a extra book but I’ve been tempted to get black mirror and day tripper And unpopular opinion but I HATED all star superman I found it confusing and some what anti climatic with Lois lane being written as very stupid for a reporter I could rant on but I won’t 😆I’m not a supe fan and that one didn’t make it for me Good list though mate glad to see preacher make it those books are a holy tomb
Superb List ! As a reader / collector of Alan Moore`s Swamp Thing as it came out in singles in the 80`s , I thought the re-coloring by Steve Oliff enhanced those pages. It & Absolute Swamp Thing , vol.2 are the only Absolutes I own.
Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is one of the best things I've read, but it doesn't deserve to be here. The recolouring just loses the horror element in the book. Alex Ross should've been on this list. Kingdom Come, man!
All collected editions of black mirror put tge skeleton stories together and after the black mirror storline? The edition i have does and is smt that i didnt like, aside of not being how originally was published, it also affects th rythim and the connection between dick grayson and james gordon stories.
Absolute Batman: Hush was also my first absolute book. I bought the monthly books and just loved the story, and when I heard that it's coming out in absolute edition, the floppies got sealed immediately!
No Alex Ross Absolute? No kingdom Come? No Justice? No World greatest heroes? If there’s art that deserves absolute is Alex Ross. The fact that’s not even in honorable mention makes you lose points in the geek world
Why do you think Absolute Swamp Thing is controversial? The coloring? Because that book is too low on your list. Black Mirror- too low on your list. Parker was cheating. The League idk but the scripts are a brilliant selling point. The Deluxe on Killing Joke is fine for me. All Star Superman I need!! Absolute Sandman and Preacher are among the nicest books in all of publishing. Without a doubt you nailed it on the Absolute Joker/Luther. I liked For Tomorrow don’t be ashamed of it! And Hush is one of the top 5 Batman stories, don’t ever apologize for what you love. I for one love All Star Batman.. and wish it had gone on- yes Miller’s not Snyder’s, unapologetically! I really love my Absolute Wonder Woman by Chiang etc. and for sure, don’t miss out on Kirby’s Fourth World! It’s a prerequisite for your Comic’s Scholar Badge. Keep the videos coming I love everyone and my God, just like a mad dog, keep smelling those books! It’s 1/3 the experience of reading books!

Sandman for me. It’s the book I go to and show off the most when I have company over and they ask about my collections on the shelf.
Anyone that argues that Steve Dillon’s art doesn’t deserve the Absolute treatment is a monster.
Steve Dillion (RIP) was one of my all-time favourite artists. His style is excellent and suit Preacher perfectly.
The Art is solid enough... and the Glen Fabrey Cover's ... sweet.
