It seems like every character is supposed to represent a kind of school of thought in the black community. Kind of like a political satire in the tradition of boondocks. But the issue is that boondocks was a satire written from the black perspective. This show seems to be written in a way that’s from the white boomer or even gen x perspective looking into the lives of black people in a way that lacks curiosity about how different ways of thinking about black issues interact within the black community and with mainstream society. It inspires or appeals to reactionary thinking. We aren’t in on the joke in this show so it feels hollow
You're right. The characters aren't written in a way that their stereotypical behavior is seen as "bad", "tragic", or dysfunctional. NO it's meant to be seen as "funny", and when things are presented in this way they're adopted not avoided. Teenagers will watch this show and start quoting things said and eventually emulate the behavior. None of this is accidental in my opinion. The desired outcome is for black Americans to continue to embrace the dysfunctional behavior that has destroyed us.
The creator of this show is Carl Jones who worked on boondocks, and Randa Shepard co-creator. Both black, there might be more to this show than meets the eye in the trailer. It feels similar to the Bokndocks, or They Cloned Tyrone to me. Over the top stereotypes for political commentary.

im so very upset about this reboot. im about to be 34. Good Times was before my time, but growing up my mom and dad watched a lot of old tv shows. Good Tines, the jeffersons, different strokes, etc. i absolutely loced good times. i was drawn to it. i loved the message, i loved the comedy, the cast. it was just fun and a good show. the fact seth took this and made it into some ghetto trash is pissing me off. These older black shows were somewhat pioneers of their time. back then you didnt see many positive black families or people on tv. so the content they provided was needed, it showed what it was like being a normal black person and family in america. it showed us in a different light than the racist stereotypes they hyped in the media. So this and other shows like it were important to the culture. and for him to take this and make a mockery of it, honestly really hurts and pisses me off. funny enough, my dad went to school with and played football with Bernnadettes husband Kevin. they were friends since high school, and when they came to towns years ago (i was a teenager at the tine so early 2000s) i got to meet them because Kevin called my dad and wanted to meet up and reminisce about old times. my parents took me and my older sister to dinner with them because i was a huge fan of Thelma on the show. Bernnadette is an amazing woman. i feel like if they knew what the show was gking to actuay be lkke, none of the cast would be ok with this. its an atrocity. i hope it fails so hard.

I know Seth MacFarlane was confronted by the ADL years ago about a skit he did against the Jews. But that is nothing compared to the degrading imagery that is seen in this sitcom. This insults our history, our inheritance and the legacy The Most High God is building through the lives of His people.
God Bless you and thank you and the men of valour of this channel and others for standing up for the value of our people.
Shalom and many blessings to you and to your beautiful families.
This show is full of racist stereotypes and that’s the thing you take issue with?
They're showing you how the world looks at the state of black people the US
They used Good Times to get the project green lit. Not saying it's right, but that's how Hollywood works
@maxcalder1010 Carl Jones left and I'm pretty sure Ranada Shepard is latino.
@@stevenvaleriojr1177 Yeah I saw he left after I posted this. I’m definitely lowering my expectations now. When I saw he was listed as the creator on imdb I was willing to give it a chance. SMH 🤦♂️
@@stevenvaleriojr1177 Also Renada Shepard is black but I think Afro Latina. I looked on her insta and it looks like she was adopted by a Black American family.
It took less than 5 seconds for me too be offended. Thanks for nothing netflix. I also canceled my membership. Whoever greenlit this is a 🍕💩
🗣📢OVERT K🦝🦝NERY‼🤦🏿♂
Yvette Nicole Brown had the nerve to attack folks that spoke out against it.
Don't give this garbage another season
Not even one second of episode
I doubt it'll make it through 1 season.
REAL TALLK
Black people have dominated the field of entertainment for several decades but we neither own nor control anything. Explain how the Animated Netflix version of "Good Times" is any different than the content that Tyler Perry has made millions from or how is it any different from making not 1, not 2 and not 3 but 4 versions of the "Color Purple"?
People who don't see anything wrong with this show are the problem
its amazing how it starts off bad and continues to get worse throughout the entire thing.
The baby thing reminds me of the day, Chappelle special when he was skinny about the drug baby
That whole joke was about being taken to the hood unexpectedly. And the baby was selling weed he bought a joint from the baby and felt bad about it.
Noman Lear died in December of last year.
His production team is still using his name I guess 🚬😮💨. Smh
I find it sad that white people might feel that this stereotypical display of black folks, is how we are. I hope there are enough that know otherwise. I feel that this is amping up those negative tropes, there may be a meaningful story behind it? Seth MacFarlane is good at telling jokes, that do not necessarily hit those you think it may, so we’ll see in 10 days!
To be fair, this is probably how many people around the world see black Americans.
Y t people do not care as to how you see them so why do you care how they may possibly view you?
@@yournamemustbejealousy2062 - What a strange comment!
@@connie1wilson Yeah your comment is very strange and reeks of low self esteem.
@@connie1wilson You need to see a therapist because it is not healthy to consider how someone views you based on how other strangers are perceived.
If this came out between 1990 and possibly 2005 people would've liked it. I think many of us are tired of the negative publicity.
This will NOT BE DYNOMITE
I would like to see a follow-up to this
We aren't watching this show...refuse...call us what you want for that...
@ManCave101Podcast
I will call you guys wise men because it is not worth it. 🤣You will lose your sanity watching this show. I was just hoping to see if you guys were going to watch the first episode just to give you a review about it. But all jokes aside, the show is full on terrible. I will give it a 2/10, and the reason is that the voice actors
It's funny. All i hear is Lamar in that little gangsta Baby
😆
I unsubbed from Netflix from this trailer alone. We need to start slapping them monetarily until they start respecting our mind
AMEN!!! I hope this is the final wake-up call we need to show that we have power when we hit their pockets! Ask Papa John
A show full of stereotypes but have the audacity to complain about the government holding black folks back? I cannot!
the council meeting of uncs is in session!!! 🤣😂😂
Ain’t no way I just got called Unc 🤣😂
Don't blame Seth Macfarlane! If it wasn't for the black actors who voiced characters on this show, it wouldn't have even been made. Let's be realistic
This Netflix Good Times animation is the true definition of a Hot Mess
Don’t watch it
@@jessehowell-t2m what makes you think you needed to say ( Don't watch it)?
This. Is Going To Be Good 😂😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This, is Going To Be Good 😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude this shit is going way over the top with black comedy didn't boondocks make a whole joke about this kind of shit
The Kingfish character would be proud.
This is the cartoon version of hip-hop music!
Why not just put out a literal minstrel show at this point? Like, wtf?!
It's interesting to see who's laughing and not laughing while watching the trailer.
Every negative stereo type they could find.🤷🏾
Just name this "Modern Good Times AKA Really horrible times"
2:08 I'm not the kind that flips out over bad animation, but shit, even I'm bothered by that.
Londoner here. This is so full of stereotypes, this must've been written and produced while high on high grade. By people wearing kkk coverings. I'll be surprised if this gets a second season, that's if the first season can stay on Netflix. I don't know who this is made for, but so far this should be flushed down toilet.
I am so sorry for that show and how it depicts life
They bit off Dave Chappelle's stand-up with the drug dealing baby.
Nooo rip Norman lear please leave the classic alone❤🙏🏾😂
9:35 the electrocuted guy disappears for a frame
im so very upset about this reboot. im about to be 34.
It was designed for "Modern Audiences"
The new generation of Bebe's kids.
Idk why but i feel like seth is here to take the hit
Not shocked about the voice characters. Especially Wanda Sykes.
Can't reach the same level as Boondocks😂😂😂😂
Well Netflix did promote that "pre teen twerk" movie🤢🤮
