I honestly think Seth McFarland didn't watch the original. Plus, if I had to take a guess, he probably figured having the family in the project would allow for more "wacky hijinks."
Or more likely, he watched it when he was a kid, but hasn’t actually looked at a rerun in years. I bet the last time he actually watched it was to do research for Family Guy. I think it was on TBS and those Columbia House tapes were available by then. They managed to cover I think all about about 20 episodes.
I totally agree I never trusted Seth MacFarlane after I stopped watching Family Guy. Quagmeyer alone is a problem with his, ideations of date **ape. Not to mention that old cross dressing man who was always coming on to Peter's chubby son, everyone I know thought this was funny but I have been telling people this is just another form of pedophilia except disguised as a cartoon. I always personally felt like Seth needs to be investigated because his jokes were sick and twisted.
I can guess how they got some of our people to be involved. It is something that always happens, I know from experience. Say you have an edgy project and you want some black people to work with you. You just say to them that they will get a chance to make their project later if they help you with the “questionable” project now. Some of the black names on the list might not have needed the push but a few of them I could see doing Good Times for Netflix if they were going to give you a shot later.
The original Good Times was about poor black people with morals and values , yes they were poor and struggling but their morals and values would prevent them from indulging in the type of behaviors depicted in this trailer. I would say this is slap in the face to the original “Good Times”. A drug dealing baby is a far call from an astute Michael Evan’s !!

Shame on everyone involved! Especially Wanda she knows better than this disrespectful crap!
I’m a black women who works in the animation industry so I know quite a bit about productions like this. I’m genuinely appalled that something like this could happen when currently there is a wave of unemployment hitting the entire entertainment industry because large studios don’t want to green light any new shows. The animation industry is suffering, and literally this year my entire show got shelved in the middle of production because a certain streaming service decided it wanted to cut a bunch of cartoon shows and fire 800 artists just to keep the CEOs pay the same. There’s not many black artists in animation. I think we literally all know each other. I don’t know anyone who’s worked on this show personally, but I do wonder what could have led them to stay. I personally would never work on such a thing, even if it was my last option if that trailer is truly what it is. But also everyone in this city (LA) is one or two paychecks from losing our housing. So I feel I can’t possibly blame any of the artists/art production for staying, especially if this was their first job or paid low. This feels like yet another cruel game of forcing disempowered people to make slop because of capitalism. I also genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if most of this was outsourced to another country though considering how poor the animation style came out. That’s another thing that been facing artist in this industry is our jobs being threatened because they don’t want to pay for our work to keep their bottom dollar. And in the case of outsourcing, the studios take advantage of even poorer countries desperation of capital. Basically, screw you Netflix. They cancelled so many shows I know from actual amazing artist and let this slop in instead. The fact that so many artists are suffering from unemployment right now (including myself) while literally racist Minstrel shows are being made instead is one of the biggest indirect slaps in the face I’ve felt from this industry.
wow, I’m so sorry for what’s happening to your industry and how they’ve treated an animation artist. I know that black animators are minority, and I do want to explore more around what forces us to take certain gigs. I remember back when I did a lot of auditions, it always felt like a choice between my integrity and eating that month. And that is not a feeling that I enjoyed, it was a powerlessness because “that’s just how the industry is.” I remember being really depleted when I decided to stop submitting and start making stuff for myself.. and I’m still recovering. you brought up a lot of good points, and I’m hoping that I can explore these in future videos
This is not good times this is bebe kids meet the pjs. This is a complete and total slap in the face and straight disrespectful to what good times was and meant.
Yep, I'm a 53 year old white man and when I was a kid in the 70's, 80's and a young adult in the 90's, I couldn't wait to watch Good Times, The Jeffersons, the Cosby Show, Family Matters, What's Happening, Gimme A Break, Different Strokes, A Different World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Martin, The Steve Harvey Show, In Living Color and the list goes on. It's sad to see that family based TV shows like these that featured funny and inspirational black characters are now obsolete.
As a southern man born in Mississippi I am so tired of these racist stereotypes forced and portrayed by Hollywood. This type of rhetoric continues to enforce identity politics that justifies poor social behavior on all sides. I really appreciate your honesty and voice of accountability to all involved from writer to consumer.
Let's not romanticize the original Good Times either. Black people uplift certain things just because we never had it before and so we'll take what's given. Good Times was written by non Black people perpetuating stereotypes and it shows.
Oh please! Good Times kept it real about Black ghetto life but it was ultimately positive and uplifting with a loving and wholesome Black family with TWO strong and loving parents in the household, three children with talent and ambition and an independent and career oriented single woman. The positive impact and genuineness far outshine any so called "negative attributes"
I’m mad that Steph Curry put his name on this. He didn’t grow up anything like this. In fact most black people do not grow up anything like this. I was raised in Brownsville in BK projects and this isn’t anything close to what happens. Original portrayed a positive black family to a baby selling drugs having guns in his face by other babies lol who tf thought yeah this is going to be a hit.
@princess_niya2407 this is NOT black culture! This is ignorant stereotypical nonsense and hatred for Black people in general. If you really believe this represents the culture then you need help.
Seems really irresponsible to put this rhetoric out there in 2024. Genuinely so destructive to all the years of hard work, creativity, and persistence of Black people dedicated to debunking these damaging stereotypes. Painful to watch.
I’ve heard NOTHING GOOD about this. I’m a 70’s baby, this ish has NOTHING TO DO WITH GOOD TIMES! This better hit the rim of the bowl, slide and keep it pushn’. This is disrespectful. This mess is pathetic.
I originally thought this was a Bebe Kids reboot until my brain kicked in. This feels wrong at the concept level. Especially to slap good times name on it to get noticed.
Netflix already has a Good Times reboot. It's called "The Upshaws" and they do this "lower-middle class black family overcoming adversity and hardship together no-matter-what" trope MUCH better. Fun fact, Kim Fields (Regina Upshaw), played Penny's (Janet Jackson) friend on Good Times, so the connection is definitely strong.
Hi Tiffany, thank you for your content! I’m a 50 year old white guy that grew up loving the original Good Times. I just expect this garbage like in 90% of every movie and tv shows now. I’m outraged over this ridiculous animated “remake”. It puts black people in a very poor stereotypical light and undoubtedly will also take many jabs at white people as well. So like Tiffany asks several times: WHO IS THIS FOR? God bless and I truly believe shows like this are going to be gone forever in the future, until then I love you all!
It REALLY disgusts me that they try to connect this garbage to the original Good Times. This new show seems AWEFUL! As a black woman, I'm really sick of things like this, cuz people already think negative things about us. It's not our responsibility to always correct them but people CHOOSE to be ignorant about us and think we are caricatures. Non- African Americans already think we're not real people. Now they have a new fictional work to point to and ignorantly say: "THATS what black is!" I'm so tired, I can't even get mad, just mildly annoyed 🙄😒
Great. Now, you can take this time to host a focus group in your neighborhood discussing the flaws about this show and things you can do that are positive for children and adults, like going to a museum.
It’s made by Seth Macfarlane so I’m not even shocked. Ive never been a fan, but many other black folks LOVED the stereotyped black characters and black “jokes” he wrote into his work😕 This is why I never laugh along when we’re the punchline. Some racists will literally tell us everything they actually think about us in a joking manner.
Every last Producer (Curry), actress and actor should be ashamed of themselves REAL TALK. This is disgusting. Goes to show you that a check is all that matters. When i think of Good Times... i dont see THIS BS!!
I can't agree with you more. Good Times was and still IS one of my favorite old school series. I have every season and when was lost, or not functioning, I literally went and bought a new one lol. This series on Netflix need to go and ASAP.
Until this video, I did not realize this was meant to be a reboot of the old sitcom. As a standalone project, this was already in poor taste to me. But as a successor to such a landmark show? Oh, hell nah.
Where are our boundaries and standards? Shut ALL doors. Are we this? Seriously. It is time to hold our people accountable, enough is enough! Rise up black folks and shine in integrity. Period 😮
I am so confused by Steph Curry's participating in this crap😢. Wanda Sykes is once again acknowledging that she will do anything for $. Such a sad thing that any black people would support this. I canceled my Netflix the moment I saw the trailer.

It’s so bad. It’s literally trashing over what the original Good Times was. It’s nothing like this animated reboot. In the original there were no guns put in their neighborhood or talking baby. Plus, the animation style is just terrible. This is the crap the Boondocks were trying to warn us about. Plain and simple
This is buffoonery and shameful. I watched Good Times in syndication. I was a teenager during that time and my children watched it as reruns. We loved this show because it depicted a two parent home, with the dad being the leader and breadwinner. His role didn't diminish Esther Rolle as his wife and support system. I don't know what this new Good Times is supposed to represent but this ain't it!!!
I believe they think this style of comedy is the only thing that will reach the Black audience they're looking for. Seth MacFarlane a producer? Seems to me he's upset about the perceived failure of 'The Cleveland Show' and is now going to double down and ramp up the ghetto and ratchetness this next time around.....
@@juratory8876 I don't think so. In his mind, this is the "new Boondocks." Every black urban stereotype imagineable then a quick one to two minute monologue about social injustice thrown into every episode and he thinks he's got a copycat recipe smh.

But…why would an athlete whose income is not dependent on minstrel show money to survive participate in this? I truly think theyre trying to unravel and reframe every good type of media representation we have ever had to mentally break us This is why Issa Rae’s argument against Monk in American Fiction was bs. This is not necessary nor is it accurate representation of black people in America. This is why I said nothing she said was valid
50 years ago, most white TV families look like they never had to want for anything and they look like they rarely have ever came into contact with anyone not white. The 1970s saw two decades of relative postwar prosperity come to a close. It would’ve been disingenuous for TV to continue to ignore the effects of worsening economic conditions on families. But that was the 1970s when there was not really home video to speak of, no Internet, barely any cable TV, no cell phones, and no streaming.
🤨I know this wasn't Steph Curry's idea he grew up privileged. Seth MacFarlane put his name first to make Blacks BELIEVE this was his idea. 🙈Black people didn't ask for this. We are so far beyond this.

Is there a petition to get this shut down???? Where do I sign???
I'm not watching this nonsense at this point we as a people should be sick of being portrayed this way.
Seth McFarland needs to stay far away from black comedy.
I was disgusted by that trailer. This was an opportunity to really pay homage to a show that means so much to many of us.
Holy shit this is so bad. I cannot imagine how exhausting it must be to be represented like this in media all the time. Ya'll deserve so much better.
Hahaha! Thank you white woman!
They couldn’t do this if some of our people didn’t participate in this nonsense example the actors.
Not to mention they aspired to get out of their circumstances….according to this show, aren’t they still in a ghetto-ized environment?
This is crossing so many lines and boundaries. Any actor or comedian taking part in this trash should be ashamed of themselves. Are times getting that hard,if so,Walmart and McDonald's is hiring.Shouldnt be called good times, call it Bad idea. Great review.
They hit every single stereotype
Had to comment again because I'm just so angry..This is just mind-boggling. The original family was aspirational. Michael wanted to be a Supreme Court justice, Thelma wanted to be a surgeon, JJ wanted to see his art in museums around the world. Both parents were hard-working, respectful, and devoted to each other and the family. This sets not only what the original Evans Family back 50 years it sets us all back too. Shame on everyone involved! Especially Wanda she knows better than this disrespectful crap!
This cartoon is a mockery
I really wished this was an April Fools prank. I hope they announce it tomorrow. “We got you…j/k!”
i hope it’s fake. Please be fake
All actors, creators as well as Netflix should be cancelled by the black community. They tried it. So disrespectful!
10 seconds iin, i stopped the preview , canceled Netflix.
NETFLIX DOES NOT RESPECT BROWN PEOPLE.
Don't watch and it will go away. Ratings are everything.
Hey lets see how many stereotypes we can pack into one show!
This proves black actors can be bought the money must be worth their dignity.....
Exactly 💯 💯 💯
As a southern man born in Mississippi I am so tired of these racist stereotypes forced and portrayed by Hollywood. This type of rhetoric continues to enforce identity politics that justifies poor social behavior on all sides. I really appreciate your honesty and voice of accountability to all involved from writer to consumer.
I can't believe so many well known black actors signed on to this, people who I THOUGHT understood how harmful this type of stuff is.
💰
They got bills too
Let's not romanticize the original Good Times either. Black people uplift certain things just because we never had it before and so we'll take what's given. Good Times was written by non Black people perpetuating stereotypes and it shows.
this is a fair point!
This is 1000% pure fact.
Right
Unnecessary, Uncalled for, Unwarranted & Unneeded!
It’s a mockery of African-American culture.
How when this is literally black culture, can’t claim as this black culture one minute and then turn around and say this is a mockery
The trolls are truly EVERYWHERE..🤦🏿♂️
@@princess_niya2407 google mockery
Is no more mockery of black culture than what I see in my neighborhood everyday 😆.
"It lacks heart and it feels soulless."
That's most of the 2010s and 2020s for you.
It's like we're not allowed to grow, as a people, and this is what we are. This is the character America has made up for us to play.
it feels very much like cosplay
You said it. They want us to get upset and angry. Helps to promote it.
Especially to slap good times name on it to get noticed.
even the Boondocks had moments where I was like “okay, now…” but this? this is RIDICULOUS
What an insult to Good Times. It's not even close to the Gold of good times
This is an insult to black people in general. This ain't about Good Times, this is supposed to be us. 😡😡😡😡
2024 minstrel shows are back in action
I can’t believe they are tarnishing the history of this show this way.
This is TRASH! This is reinforces all the stereotypes we’ve been trying to fight for the past 50 years. Nothing positive here.
"Good Times" should not be the name of this series.
It's "Hood Times."
Not to sound like an owl, but not everything classic (specifically Black classics) needs a remake/reboot.
AT 👏🏾ALL 👏🏾
This is horrible!! I have a lot of respect for the original Good Times Series. And it’s a shame to put out this trash and call it Good Times!!!!
Every last Producer (Curry), actress and actor should be ashamed of themselves REAL TALK. This is disgusting. Goes to show you that a check is all that matters. When i think of Good Times... i dont see THIS BS!!
Steph has NEVER lived the ghetto surviving life🤨so to make fun of it is a darn shame 🤨and for the record this seems like more of his self hatred 🤔
I can't agree with you more. Good Times was and still IS one of my favorite old school series. I have every season and when was lost, or not functioning, I literally went and bought a new one lol. This series on Netflix need to go and ASAP.
💯💯💯💯💯
Until this video, I did not realize this was meant to be a reboot of the old sitcom. As a standalone project, this was already in poor taste to me. But as a successor to such a landmark show? Oh, hell nah.
In the words of Randy Jackson "it's a no for me dawg."
I watched the first episode, and I feel so disrespected on so many levels.
This show is like a slap in the face to any black person who has ever lived......It's like a production company looked at all possible black stereotypes & said lets use them all.
And got the nerve to call this a REBOOT... ugh. I can't even find enough words to describe my disgust.
RUclips banned them all.
I just can't. Thank you for covering this. I hope they don't release this. Giving me high blood pressure
Propaganda to continue ignorance
This trailer is exhausting.
CANCEL THIS NOW!
I beg my people: Do NOT rage watch this mess. Because they they will still get their views, engagement and money. Our best move is to ignore and move on. If we ignore, they will surely be canceled.
Almost every reboot s*** and doesn't do any favors to the original shows. I am just glad some of my favorite old shows will never get rebooted
@@dawb86 It's funny that he thinks it'll work this time around. I'm guessing he's hurting for money?
@@juratory8876 I don't think so. In his mind, this is the "new Boondocks." Every black urban stereotype imagineable then a quick one to two minute monologue about social injustice thrown into every episode and he thinks he's got a copycat recipe smh.
I got literal goosebumps of disgust with the song “everything black” playing in the background as if dysfunction is “everything black”. Why is this happening..I honestly feel like I could cry.
I’m in shock that Steph Curry would fund this. I knew a lot of people in the entertainment industry were sell outs. But…why would an athlete whose income is not dependent on minstrel show money to survive participate in this?
I truly think theyre trying to unravel and reframe every good type of media representation we have ever had to mentally break us
This is why Issa Rae’s argument against Monk in American Fiction was bs.
This show is disrespectful and not funny at all. Please boycott this trash and let it flop.
🤨I know this wasn't Steph Curry's idea he grew up privileged. Seth MacFarlane put his name first to make Blacks BELIEVE this was his idea. 🙈Black people didn't ask for this. We are so far beyond this.
I didn't know Steph Curry was a comedian 🤷 lolol
Wow! Somehow they forgot the chicken and watermelon in this trailer. What the hell is this?!
NetFlix: Let's take a classic genuine comedy that challenged social issues while delving into black culture. Then turn it into every ghetto black stereotype. We'll give it the new Scooby Doo treatment, but focus on black stereotypes.
They need to pull the show and issue an apology to the black community
This show needs to be canceled immediately!
200 dollars says this doesn’t live after one season.
This is scary. I am 66 years old and this is shocking. I don’t even watch any adult cartoons. Steph Curry is unbelievable that Aisha allowed him to do this with young children. I thought they were more classy. I hope it is cancelled and they lose money! Ugh 😩
Steph Curry is a show runner? Unbelievable. Netflix canceled good shows like The Get Down, Warrior Nun for this sambo minstrelsy. I won’t be glorifying this mess by watching it. Contemplating cancellation.
Don't forget Inside Job
I absolutely LOVED watching Good Times growing up, and this by far is complete TRASH!!!
This feels more like it can be a reboot for the movie BEBE'S KIDS vs Good Times. Or they could've just had it as an original series.
At first I thought it was an April Fools joke, but then I realized the trailer was uploaded in March…
It’s a NOOOOO for me!!!!!! 😡
